Is it possible? I just moved from cm7 to synergy and I did a titanium backup but when I import messaging force closes I'm willing to flash asopif needed
Did you restore system settings as well?
I believe so I imported two portions sms press and one more
I did sms prefs and dialer storage
Re-flash the rom, and and restore only apps and data, never system settings; try that.
So just dialer storage instead?

What do you mean by that?
The only two items I see relating to sms are sms prefs and sms dialer storage in my titanium backup

No, you're gona have to reflash the entire rom, starting over, and when you get to that portion, sinply restore all apps and data, not system settings.
Tried that as well with no luck I guess its because I'm going from 234 down to 233?

Does anyone know how to backup texts and contacts? So whenever I flash new firmware I can get them back?
Thanks in advance.
There is an app called sms backup & restore in the market. I use that.
And not sure about contacts because I just automatically download them from my gmail account when setting up the phone.

I use MyBackup Pro v2.3.4 (available from Marketplace) as it allows you to backup apk's/apk's and their data, and also things like Contacts, Calendar events, Bookmarks, SMS, alarm, etc. To use it, you will need root access.
Actually, you see, the problem is that I cannot download ANY apps from the marketplace. It stalls and keeps displaying the message "Starting download..". Hence why I am trying to back everything up and reinstall the ROM.
In settings, there is a backup option that saves all contact / texts onto the SD Card. anyone know where that file is located? I'll ever be grateful if someone can post this information. thanks.
EDIT: The option is in Settings > Privacy > Backup settings.
Well I successfullly mangaged to install my first custom ROM last night - very chuffed!
I used TiBackup to backup all apps and data, and once I had installed LeeDroid I did a "Restore Missing Apps + Data". However, I don't have any of my non-gmail/facebook contacts or any of my SMS messages.
Have I done the wrong type of restore?
No it doesn't back them up, it only does applications as far as i can tell, and your actual SMS and MMS messages, as well as your contacts aren't stored 'within an app' i believe.
I would be intrigued to know what people use to back up their contacts data with though ?
If u check all ur backup things on titanium, there are some "special backup" (i don't know how explain) for SMS/MMM, paired bluetoot, call logs etc (if u did a full backup of ur system app)..Check it, they have the titanium icon..Anyway i never tried that..let us know
[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.2
is the proper "item" to backup SMS history.
To restore it, you MUST reboot your phone before they are fully restored.
Basically, as the title states I'm looking for options for backing up my SMS and MMS messages.
'My Backup Pro' does a fine job but it doesn't save the time stamps. Once you restore they all show up as new messages basically.
I'm looking for a way to backup, or even better, automatically backup or sync my messages.
(Too bad Google doesn't have a messages sync option like it does with contacts and calendar)
Thoughts?
I havent found a way to backup both SMS and MMS together.
SMS Backup & Restore backs up SMS with the TS and you can restore the backup.
I use Handcent to back up MMS.
Does My Backup Pro backup both SMS and MMS? I should try that out later tonight

Yep, you have the option to backup both. You can also backup apps and data, or either or. I really like the app otherwise.
I use an app called backup to gmail. saves all my sms, mms, call logs
real time
you can save the mms and sms seperately onto your sd card. But as for backing them up the only reason the backup is if your trasfering to another phone or flashing roms. If your trasfering to another phone go to a cellphone store and they can back up messages on a maching called cellebrite and trasfers the complete state of the phone to the other. As for just flashing roms i believe titanium backup will back it up, or you can make a nandroid and dig deep in the nandroid and pull up the messages.
Doesn't titanium backup save those?
I've done several backups/restores here of the call log and sms. Time stamps appear to be preserved. I do believe TB requires root access though.
Hi!
I changed from CM to Sense. I have a copy of sms data made with Titanium Backup.
I want to restore this sms/mms to the default messaging apk in Sense, is that possible? (I tried to restore, but nothing is shown in the app)
Or should I use Hancent instead? Thanks!
Hi, someone?
You can try to install/flash it but most AOSP apps don't work on Sense. Best off with Handscent.
It would be better if you use SMS Backup & Restore (find it on the market).
It backups all of the SMS to an xml file and you can restore it with the same app, and then you don't need to backup the data with titanium (as you said you restore it but there's no data)
After Marshmallow I am unable to restore backuped sms in htc messaging app, does anyone else have this problem?

They are probably gone. You should always back up your text messages in multiple apps(Super Backup/SMS backup/Titanium backup) which transform them into an XML file on your ext SD card. I learned the hard way too so it's no big deal. Just remember to do it for the next time.
