I was trying to test the turn by turn GPS but Google maps was forcing close.. Reinstalled it but the problem persists.. Hardware issue maybe?

Was the gps radio on before opening the app? Does the app work at all? Is the error only when closing?
Thanks for replying.. The GPS rádio is on. Gmaps apparently is working fine, showing my correct position. But when i click a place on the map and ask to navigate, it suddendly crashes.. I will factory reset the phone, lets see if it works

Is turn by turn navigation enabeled in your country? Don't thinks its active everywhere yet.. might be reason for crashing
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I had this problem two nights ago when trying to search for a place via the navigation app (of which I'd then want gps navigation to). It kept crashing on me, so I opened the actual Maps apk, searched for the destination via Maps, then drove down into the location and asked for navigation. Worked fine then.
This morning I'm trying it again, and everything works fine on all fronts. This is in the U.S., stock 4.0.2 on VZN.

Hello all,
Im using the GSM Galaxy nexus on T-mobile. I don't use data from T-mobile because i dont get good service in my town. I was wondering, Is there an app or something that will let me use turn by turn GPS on my phone. If not an turn by turn than at least a way to save the route and then use that to give turn by turn. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Copied this from a review..I've never used it, and it's expensive, but seems like it'd get the job done..
"Navigon for Android ($30 + $14 in-app purchase for live traffic) Navigon (by Garmin) is another great option, and while it's expensive and the app forces you to download your maps ahead of time (a process we suggest you do over Wi-Fi, as the files are pretty big) you do get the benefit of a "real" GPS app, where all of your maps are stored on your phone and you don't need a constant data connection to help you find your way. If your data connection drops—like mine did yesterday—Navigon keeps going like nothing happened. Plus, the app is snappy, the interface is well designed for in-car use, and the voice prompts are clear and loud. That said, it's really pricey by comparison, and you have to pay again in-app to get live traffic, when other apps offer it for free. Navigon has a long and storied history, and it's a great option if you need offline maps (although Google Nav also allows you to download map areas), but its really hard to get around the price."

Sygic.

Just cache the map section of the area you are driving in google maps. This should get you going.

Thanks guys, I'll try them all. I heard you could do the google maps thing and I'm probably gonna do that but sometime when I'm on the road, I think I would need a navigation in case I got lost. Again thank you all.

Offline navigation in Google Maps is amazing.

Okay, and to cache the map from Google maps, I just have to put the direction in and click navigation? Will it automatically do it after that?

I do not believe that is the way it works. You save an area and then you can navigate within it offline.
I think I figured it out. I put an address in for directions and then I turned off my WiFi and the directions were still working. I'll try it on the road too.

you know that there's a whole "Settings" menu in current google maps application where you can manually cache various areas? lots of tutorials available via google.com...
Yea that's what I did to download a section of the map that I needed.

Hello folks,
I am currently using Cm10 m2 rom, SGH-T999 (AT&T),JB 4.1.2, Nova launcher for about two weeks now. I was able to use GPS on google maps in the morning but when i looked at my phone later, the battery was 20% gone from the constant GPS searching for signal. Google maps is unable to locate my location but my other apps were able to locate me. I have tried disabling all running services but this searching for GPS signal thing is contantly showing up...does anyone knows an app that will tell me what app is requesting gps signal?
Thanks in advance!
If maps can't get your location then that's probably the issue.
Have you tried restarting the phone?

Yeah, i rebooted a couple of times, wipe out dalvik cache, removed battery and uninstall google maps. When google map was uninstalled, the GPS searching for signal continues to run.
GPS on google maps works now..but the gps signal search is still going on. I am disabling gps for now.
I'm having the same issue!
I think this happened after I downloaded maps for my area, and still working on a fix though

I had Google Now working on my galaxy nexus 4.1.2 just fine for a few months until a couple of days ago when i decided to upgrade to 4.2. Now the google voice search is still there and i tried re-installing it but Google Now is not there anymore, and there is no option in settings that mentions enabling/activating google now.
My phone was always rooted, and i thought it may have something to do with the fact that my bootloader was unlocked, so i relocked it
anyone know whats going on?
thanks

Look up Google search in the play store. Does it show as installed? If not, download and install.

The Google Now settings are hidden on the search screen, lower right hand corner. I had this happen when I turned off Google now on an old device I was messing with, and it turned off on my active devices also. For some reason OS updates have triggered this from time to time also.

Go to Google Settings app, then go to location then turn off access location. Make sure Location Services is OFF as well.
Do you happen to use Google Now? For some reason, its location implementation makes it use Google Maps although you the user have never opened the app itself. I've had this problem myself too and I ended up disabling Google Now

I found this or clearing the cache would stop maps from wake locking.

what is that a app?
Go into Map settings>Location settings and turn off Resort grin this device and Enable Location History. This should solve your problem.
I had same problem I solved by searching on google. The trick is to disable and factory reinstall it.
When you go in app manager then map click Disable it will the propose you to install factory version say yes and renable it then boot just in case and Map won't consume the battery.
It worked for me and alot of other people
I don't why it do this some kind of bug in map that is delivered with phone but resting solve it.

I just did that, but do I need to update to the latest maps though? I'm guessing No, cuz the latest update has people complaining about the battery drain.

Ever since the OTA to Android 4.3.1, I have not been able to use Waze. I'm pretty sure it was working fine before the OTA. Now it won't open it just crashes. Can someone else check if Waze works on their updated N7 LTE? I'm also rooted and changed from a TMobile SIM to AT&T SIM, but I don't see how that should make a difference.
Thanks in advance.
Waze works for me without any issues after the upgrade.

Thanks. I probably have to do a factory reset then.
Edit: Apparently something went wrong with my Waze installation. I was able to uninstall and reinstall, and it is working again now, no need for a factory reset, phew!
Thanks again for confirmation it was still working for others, that was enough for me to keep looking to fix it on my end.
