you mean yakju to yakjuXX? where XX is a country code?
Just flash it back. Its easy.

Is there non root way of doing it?

you don't need root to flash the factory original images.

Unlock bootloader, flash stock image, lock bootloader. Done

yes, the repair centre changed it to yakjuxw
but it went in a yakju

You're not the only one. I got my screen replaced and got the phone sent back with the bootloader unlocked. Not a big deal locking it (use 'fastboot oem lock' command) but they should have done that when the device left their end. They certainly will raise a fuss if they saw a device with an unlocked bootloader sign.

I have it on video
I filmed me opening the package incasw it was damaged
The unlocked symbol is in plain view

It does
the samsung code is only on 4.0.1
most google codes are on 4.0.2, some on 4.0.3, plus their "repair" was a bodge.

You're funny.
No matter how much complaining, videos, etc, so what? You can easily convert it back, also what do you expect Samsung to do now? Give you money? Apologize? Give you a hand job?
Relax. Sheesh.

The point is now a lot of people are having their warranty ruined by Samsungs repair centre.

got my replacement sealed new GN today
and its Yakju out of the box

strange
its on 4.0.1
It has not asked for 4.0.2 upadate yet?
I though we were all on 4.0.2 with "Yakju" now ?

Maybe it isn't yakju...

Not necessarily. Three UK have said that their Galaxy Nexii are locked.
i have the Nexus S, and no, it was never locked in any shape or form
you either get the GSM version of the CDMA version
that's all
just like the new GN, you either go for the GSM version, or the CDMA version
This is, I have one waiting for me to buy at the O2 store, the kind helper said he'd keep it for me until I arrive....

i spoke to 3 yesterday, spoke to a couple of their representatives to confirm if there was a SIM lock on the phone, they confirmed that there was
Vodaphone said their Nexus S are locked, but they weren't. The stupid O2 Customer Services say all O2 phones are sim locked.
Some are lock and some aren't. Same as the nexus s.
I would personal always presume network direct phones will be locked unless told otherwise.
Meh, I'll just have to put my GiffGaff in it if it is, until I get SuperCID on it.
just buy it from retailers that offers unlocked version to avoid problem then.
don't give business to 3, and let them die a painful and slow death by locking their phones

I'm not buying it from 3, I'm buying from O2......and I refuse to wait another 7 days for it.
3 will always be locked unless you get it from CPW ect. And there firmware is usually written pretty deep into the phone.
its either Phones4U or another independent now, or wait 2 weeks until CPW are allowed to sell it on all Networks. The rest are going to be Network Locked, I'm going to Jamaica January and do not want to be stuck on some waiting for Updates O2 Firmware so no way in hell am I getting it from O2 Direct.
They told me it was OK lol got my unlock code in less than 24 hours.

GN "Official words" about yakju and yakjuxw differences

OK, mid you that the answers I got from Samsung Romania customer support where over the telephone not mail so......
According to the support ppl there are no differences between yakju and yakjuxw. They both get updates from Google not one from Google (yakju) and the other one from Samsung (yakjuxw). They also said that yakjuxw is for more specific countries or zones as well as for certain carriers, thus some phones with yakjuxw may have some personalized software, ring tones or wallpapers that other yakjuxw don't have. The yakju version is the, let's say universal version with no specific crap in it so the updates come first and quicker to this version then the yakjuxw.
I can confirm that the service support for GN phones of Vodafone Romania told me that I will not loose my warranty if I install yakju version on the phone, of course they official Google version found on their site. They also told me that if I unlock my phone via code from any other source except Vodafone that will void the warranty, so bummer there.
The fact of the matter is that there are ppl that flashed yakju to a yakjuxw Gn and still didn't get the 4.0.2 update while other got it.
The are ppl with yakju by stock that didn't get 4.0.2 yet.
Again this was over the phone with a customer support person, although I have sent Samsung an email about 11 days ago I have still yet to receive an answer from them.
For those of us with yakjuxw all that remains for us to do is wait and see how long will it take for 4.0.2 to get to us or flash to yakju and hope OTA updates will be on their marry way to our GN and that flashing yakju will actually mean getting the updates as quick as the ones with stock yakju.
One question for those who flashed yakju over yakjuxw:
After flashing yakju in Android System info does it still say Samsung in Brand? Or does it say Google? We all know that yakjuxw have Brand: Samsung while yakju have Brand: Google.
Cheers
I changed from yakjuxw to yakju and Android System Info says Brand: google. It was samsung before..
But still no update to 4.0.2, but I guess that Google stopped the updates for some reason. Many people with original yakju devices don't have the update yet, too..
My verizon galaxy nexus (mysid) shows google as the brand as well. can someone with a gsm galaxy nexus post a screenshot of android system info for comparison?
It's good to know that the brand also changes from samsung to google.
Here is the screenshot
Here's a shot of mine.
What does the host line mean?
In most phones, at Brand section apears the name of the carrier, like T-Mobile, Vodafone or any other company, In this case is Samsung.
Samung Kies is incompatible with GN so the question remains: who is responsable with deploying updates for these phones and how?
The support person from samsung told me that if I try to update GN with Kies, it won't work. I haven't tried it yet to see if it's true.
Like I sayd in my first post, according to samsung all GN are supported and updated via OTA by google and only by google as it's a full google phone. If this is true or not, remains to be seen with future updates.
As mentioned in other threads, Samsung made the region/carrier changes to original yakju build to support different regions/carriers, thus the various yakju** variants. Ideally they should send these changes back to Google to be incorporated into the main AOSP branch. So hopefully with a major future OTA release, Google will bring all GSM GN's into a single OTA profile.

I've flashed yakju over yakjuxw and did get the 4.0.2 the 2nd day after it was officially released, so it goes to say that there are people who flashed yakju and got the update.

I think the rep wasn't lying about what he said above, because 1 of the differences between yakju and yakjuxw that I've seen is that Samsung's build, yakjuxw had 30-40 more ringtones than the official Google build. Also maybe some more wallpapers. Other than that, I didn't see any changes.
My question on this problem is the following: is there some IMPORTANT part of the firmware that is different ? Something like the baseband or settings missing or etc. ? That kind of important. Ringtones are not that important, so it doesn't really matter that they are missing from Google build, I can live with that. But if a baseband is different and it affects the reception, now that is something very important. So, are there any important differences like that ?

That was obvious. What isn't necessarily obvious is the fact that the phone came locked on Vodafone. Is it true, did you check ?
The phone is locked on Vodafone.
I really can't say what would happen if you would go to vodafone service with the bootloader unlocked and yakju instead of yakjuxw. Let's hope it wont come to that....

Did Your Phone Come With a Unlocked Boatloader

I recently received a Galaxy Nexus From Bell Mobility it came with unlocked boatloader. Has anyone else on Verizon or any other carry received there phone with a unlocked boatloder out of the box. Not modified by you

I think someone else played with that puppy before you
That's what I was thinking but the place I ordered it from has now idea how come it would be like that nor what a unlocked boat loader told me to contact samsung. Odd thing my phone seems to be one of those developer phones and I have no idea how to confirm this. I have a development ID number but my phone says retail. So I am thinking it not a full production phone but I have no idea how to confirm this or rest my fears that it is not a dev but a full retail phone. Any thoughts would be great

How can you tell it is unlocked? Mine appeared to be factory sealed but oddly the sticky plastic thing on the back of the phone had some kind of grit or dirt all over one part of it. Very odd if it came like that from the factory.

You will have an unlocked padlock on the google splash screen if the bootloader is unlocked.

My Galaxy Nexus is originally from Bell. I didn't notice the unlocked item on the Google splash screen. Although I did flash my device without root with the stock 4.0.2 via Odin by Chainfire and now I notice the unlocked icon during a phone boot up. Does this mean my boot loader is now unlocked?

i bought 2 gnex (one for me and my gf) sim free
the 2 unit were sealed brand new and the 2 came with unlocked bootloader(bought in germany(saturn) so i think thats normal (please someone from germany can they confirm that?)
the gnex units sold by saturn and media markt came with an unlocked bootloader.
It seems that they have been patched by samsung due to the volume bug - after production.
The units from amazon which were available 2 weeks later, have a locked bootloader and were already patched in the factory.
i also read (take this with a grain of salt) that yakjuxw are unlocked models but im not sure if this is true though all yakjuxw i saw came with a unlocked one (except the ones that were sim locked)
I bought mine from Vodafone Portugal (and 2 friends more, in the same day) and the 3 devices came with yakjuxw and unlocked bootloader. I already changed mine to yakju and left the bootloader unlocked.. I don't think there is any reason why I should lock it... is there?
Thanks
I worked in retail, sealing phones and other electronics for three years. I know what to look for. There is often a smell that is different if it was open. Another indication is the sticky ness of the plastic. The final is why it is sealed and repackged. Often the prepackaged film is not but on the same and the accessories are often not sealed the same way.

Mine had the seal from Samsung, as well as my friends' devices. All three came with unlocked bootloader. I guess it was a huge coincidence if all three had been open before.

Warranty Question

Im jsut wondering, if something ever happens to my GSM Gnex can i send in for warranty since it is not a USA phone?
Didn't the store/site you got it from provide you with a warranty? they usually send out to Samsung on your behalf and take care of all of that..I dun see why you can't go to Samsung yourself, should be okay and covered

Actually Samsung Europe has absolutely no obligation to honor your warranty if you imported a grey market device. You have to go through your importer.
Yes speaking of grey market, check if your warranty is based on the international warranty handled by your importer...ow there are regional warranties so your importer has to get it fixed in the country of origin...so not necessarily USA

You had to have lucked out. Samsung has been refusing service in the US to everyone since the phone is from Europe.
OP your best bet is a warranty through Amazon that you should have. If not, Ensquared will provide you with a warranty.

Just got off the phone with Samsung UK, who referred me to their repair location: "Intercity".

awesome. Gonna call Samsung USA and Samsung Canada back now.

Why won't my i317m Unlock? Help with a story

Long story short - I got screwed over today.
I sold my Nexus 4, and bought a Brand New still in plastic Note II today off Kijiji (Canada's craiglist) for $480.00
Its locked to Rogers, but seller said he unlocked the phone to sell it. I powered it on, it worked great and still had all the plastic on it.
I brought it, got my Microsim out, got it activated with Telus, put it in my phone and boom - Its locked. Realized I made a huge mistake not trying the Sim before buying the phone.
Emailed the seller, he said he was told it was unlocked and I'm out of luck, sell it or unlock it myself. Wow... I couldn't believe it. He hasn't responded to anything else since. He told me he already spent the money on a iphone5 so good luck with it. Shocked by the response.
I called Rogers - explained the story - gave the IMEI. They told me its a brand new activation - she said she can't tell me much but felt bad so she told me it was literally a brand new phone but was subsidized so they can't unlock it for 90 days, but did ensure me if I decided to use it with Rogers it would work. (She all but told me it was just activated this past weekend by the seller, so it was 1-2 days old). She said after 90 days I could get it unlocked for $50 but need to be a customer to do it. Well isn't that helpful.
So now, I tried Cellunlocker.net and quickphoneunlock.com to get it unlocked. She recommended me try these. I had used these services many times in the past without issue... well this time, both providers gave me the exact same lock code - but were unsuccessful. Still waiting to hear back from both services.
I then found the "free unlock" method on XDA and around the net, but the last step's menu isn't present in my phone so it won't unlock. This step to be exact - "choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ"
Anyone have any idea's on why "choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ" isn't in my menu options? Or have any other unlocking suggestions?
I'm basically down to one option - switch to Rogers - which is a Major pain in the ass and something I'd like to avoid.
Yes I know I made the mistake of buying without testing the sim first, Please no need to comment about this.
My phone has 4.1.2
It updated as soon as I enabled WiFi.
Seems if i Left Rogers 4.1.1 on it I would have the option to unlock, correct? Anyone tell me if I can go back to 4.1.1 somehow and if this would fix it? (Rogers Canada) And how I can do it?
Having some bad luck here.

That is correct. Go to www.sammobile.com and get the stock 4.1.1 firmware for your phone. Flash it with odin and then follow the steps for the free unlock guide. Make sure the firmware you download is for the canadian model . I believe it will be sgh-i317m . Once you get it unlocked then you can go back to 4.1.2 and it will stay unlocked forever. Make sure you read everything. I dont want you to brick your new phone.

Correct. Starting in 4.1.2, unlock is blocked. Downgrade to 4.1.1 and you can unlock for free. It's been proven to work in many many forum posts.
