Google never released Honeycomb; besides, its a tablet OS so it really has nothing for phones.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Oh....I'm sure if google was to release it the devs here on xda can manage to boot it on the g2....I've seen a youtube video of the phone with honeycomb but its completly useless
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Google did release honeycomb's source the day after ICS's source was released, No one has cooked it into a rom and honestly its not worth the effort.
dev's wouldn't bother building roms from source, when newer source is released.
Also, they would have the same issues with camera and fm radio not working in honeycomb if anyone tried making it, as no drivers have been made/released for our devices past gingerbread.
-Nipqer
If I recall the phone portions of the OS were completely borked anyways. Which is why the big G never released the code.
Did they actually release HC code with ICS release? I thought it was just that ICS included the HC changes plus everything fixed for phones.

Sooooo about these drivers does google have to release them or do we here at xda have to cook up our own because I believe the next ics relase should have a working camera right?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Google doesn't build the drivers, the manufacturers build drivers to make Android work with each different set of hardware. Its possible for the devs to do, but its very time consuming. HTC isn't going to make HC drivers for our device, since HC is tablet only. And effort (both HTC and devs here) is probably better spent on ICS for the reason that ICS is mostly HC but including phone functionality, and a few other features and optimizations.

Dude, they aren't even RCs! If you want a ROM that has everything working all of the time then either revert back to stock or run a STABLE release.

Camera kinda works means, it has some functionality, but is far from perfect.
You can't do video capture, and the camera struggles with anything above VGA resolution. So nowhere near the 5MP the sensor can offer.
It is quite hard work to get this **** working fully, you should appreciate what they have done so far. So stop *****ing that it ain't perfect.
-Nipqer
I thought you need to run a camera app for the camera to work properly.
Plus I can live without the Desire's camera, not exactly that great.

It has to be released first. Nobody has it yet. Nexus One users arent even supposed to get it until the next few weeks.
Gingerbread is NOT!!!!!! !!!!! !!!!&$^$^$%&^%&*"!! out yet.
What we have is the SDK for it.
Soon there will be a rom released for the nexus, and an AOSP tree we can build from but for now all roms will be dirty ports from the sdk and will be very (very) buggy.
You won't get anything that even vaguely resembles a good rom until AOSP is out.

Thanks for the link. And I bet our devs would love to get it going. I've looked around and the vision seems to be one of the more buzzing forums in terms of development. And I agree, if I could then I would most definitely port it as well. It'll get working on our visions, considering our hardware is more accelterated and powerful than the desire. I know ill be getting the Sensation asap, but the G2 is a great phone and great for flashing roms, etc.

The original Desire got it booting? I know the DHD guys got it booting (without a touchscreen though).
If none of our devs take this up, which I doubt, I'll try port the DHD port of the Sensation. Which I'll fail.
Meh.
Dammit, it was the DHD guys :-(

I think HTC thinks Sense (2.1/3.0/3.5) won't run on the DInc. I also thought that Sense 3.5 was supposed to be the version that didn't require the hardware requirements that 3.0 required, so I would think that would've been the version they could've used instead of 1.0... At this point, I don't think HTC will release any more updates for this phone.
Sad really, cause it's a work-horse.

I think it was more along the lines of this was going to be the last official update so they were not going tto take the time to build 2.1 sense on a device they no longer support. They just wanted to update the base and interlace sense 1.0 and push it out. They did the same with the EVO.

HTC and most manufacturers out there seem clueless. I mean imagine a world where the UOT Kitchen wasn't something developers had to come up with over months of dissecting the phone, but rather a software program that came with your Incredible that allowed you to plug your phone into your computer and make simple color changes and things to personalize your phone.
It's sad really because HTC is so great in some ways - they did afterall, put out the Dinc to begin with. But they do tend to move on to new phones fast...
Thank God for XDA developers!

Impossibru! You must understand that CM9 and sense are two separate entities... If this hypothetical ROM exists, then it is in no way different from a Sense 4 ROM.
CM9 is very much AOSP. And one can't add Sense on top of it. Sense is not like a module you can put on top of AOSP. That is, if you compare AOSP to a bike/car, Sense is NOT a body kit for the said bike/car... That would be a theme... Sense and similarly other skins are much deeper than that. It is like a total overhaul of the bike/car. The essence of the bike remains, but the whole thing is rebuilt from ground up - engine is replaced, suspension is replaced, chassis may be tweaked, NO2 may be added and of course a lot of decals AND a body kit perhaps - except with most skins the new "engine, suspense and added NO2" may bog down the bike (here a smartphone)... compared to the stock experience.
A more straightforward explanation than this somewhat convoluted analogy is that a manufacturer's "skin" includes several system files that were compiled with a lot of modifications to the source from their part. Hence, the changes made to the OS are quite profound such that one cannot take their favorite parts of the Sense skin and implement it into CM9 as they wish. One may be able to successfully port a few Sense apps, or widgets but not the whole Sense experience onto CM9.
Perhaps you want to rephrase that question to make it more sensible (no pun intended). May be you want to include some tweaks or features in CM9 that are typically found in Sense (may be the launcher, or widgets or lockscreen).. This can be done via some themes I suppose. Or may be you want a Sense ROM with the tweaks of CM9 which already exists to some extent (the UKB ROM has a lot of tweaks similar to those in CM9).

@OP: Actually, in all seriousness CM9 with Sense is coming out tomorrow. We have not only taught our CM9 to have some sense, we also gave it a beating and now it comes with manners and respect too. If the camera starts acting wonky, call it a bad boy and give it a time out, may be even ground it. It may then come with good ocular senses...
sorry for pulling your leg, but "CM9 with sense" sounds funny (in all fairness "sense" is a funny name)
