Problem with link2sd - HTC Wildfire S

At first i got error damaged sd card (it isnt damaged i changed 3 sd cards ) then i restart the phone launched link2sd app it ask me what the type of partition (ext2/3/4/fat32) i choose ext2 error invalid argument same if i make the partition fat32 any thoughts?

are you sure it's an ext2 partition? (the 2nd partition)....there's a good tutorial on here somewhere for how to set up your mem card for link2sd. mine is ext3.
if you're not sure, you can try loading the mem card on your pc, right clock, choose properties and it will tell you which file system you are using.
in order to use link2sd effectively, you basically want your main partition to be fat32 (for storage of music/video/whatever), and then your secondary partition should be no more than 1gb and either ext3 or ext4 i think.
mine is set up with around 13gb fat 32, and 1gb ext3, stock rom, rooted, link2sd. works like a charm. look up the tutorial though, and it will tell you how to prepare your sd card before you set up link2sd.

im sure its ext2 and if i make it fat32 i get error faild to connect app bla bla read only file...

i'm still confused....when you say "it"....you do mean the 2nd partition, right?
you haven't formatted your entire sd card as one huge ext2 partition?
::EDIT::
just found that tutorial.....try following this guide and see if you still have problems afterwards?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432459&highlight=set+up+sd+card
i'd also suggest that you try different file systems/find out which is most stable for your card....depends on your card and your rom from what i can tell (although, i've also noticed that some configurations that are apparently not compatible, do work, and sometimes better than any other....just try your options, see what works best for you....same goes with most hacking/modding i think, e.g. OC'ing works really well for some guys with the exact same phone as me, but if i OC, my phone goes nuts....I guess it's tiny variations in hardware, but try your options, see what's stable, what works, and stick to that)

What type of SD is it? speed/size, etc.
Did you try rebuilding your mount script in Link2SD.
To me it sounds like a bad SD card. Once in a blue moon I will get the second partition not mounting but a quick boot from Link2SD fixes that.

SanDisk class 4 8gb i tryied rebuld the mount script it says invalid argument ....

yes but every 2 days i get this error and i have to wipe the partition and remake it

Have you tried doing a full wipe, wipe dalvik, clean reinstall of your ROM?

are you OC'd?
I had massive problems when I installed the OC kernel on the stock rom...

Maybe try flashing a ROM that supports link2SD better (ext2/4 support).
Try something like this if you like sense - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432259
Otherwise flash CM7 !

@Gloris no @se-nsei i am noob at flashing roms but ill give it a shot thx any way

we were all noobs once, and time to learn is ALWAYS...
so start by flashing recovery... then choose rom and flash it, it's really painless process... most of the times ... u can find all the guides here on the forums ...

b02, you couldn't be more right. We were all noobs until we learned and tried to go just a little bit further. Every day is a learning day. It doesn't hurt to follow some rich tutorials that we can find here, get some practice and maybe later we are "teaching" others how to do things. Nobody should be ashamed of being a noob.

Un-partitioning SD card?

Hi guys,
I couldn't find anything about this (I did try searching before posting this thread, so I hope I am not repeating a common question!).... I wish to unpartition my sd card and just go back to a normal fat32 partition....
So far I have tired windows disk management and Rom Manager, which just allows you to ADD a ext partition with no luck!
Can anyone else guide me how to achieve this?
Regards!

System recover? clockworkmod using the fake flash method? because I don't see the Partition SD Card menu anywhere else and i've tried both!
I know its right in front of me somewhere, I just can't see it, D'oh!
use the one from rooting folder
Bah,
I ended up using GPart live cd to undo it!!
Thanks for the responses guys, hopefully this will help someone else who needs it!

That's fine, it's why I created the thread!
If you just want to partition you can use ROM Manager (but this requires root)
you need the recovery file (entitled 'pushfiles' or something) from the risk-free root package to partition/un-partition the card.
Else, you can use a GPart live CD, which makes it really easy!
Hope that helps buddy...

If you're using a2sd+ then you need to change your ext2 partition to ext3, Also, I don't believe that you need a swap partition anymore...

lol, lets give the guy a break.... we all know it was a 256GB Flash card!
Anywhooo, I have another question, so I think i'll hijack my own thread!
Guys, whats the most efficient way to backup/restore and move apps between roms? I've ended up manually re-installing installed apps 2/3 times now, I was going between roms that did/didn't support a2sd. Also, should there be any consideration to any specific backup options available in the various tools?
Thanks in advance!
Hi, my phone got bricked using GPart live to turn my ext 2 into a 3 partition. Everything went fine using the program, turned off Usb storage, went into market and tried to download a program, when it started to install the screen when black.
Now I cant boot with sdcard in, I don't come past the white HTC screen
Without SDcard it starts loading the system but the loading is a never ending loop.
Tried to format SD with fakeflash, dosent help
Tried reflashing my rom with wipe and everything, dosent help
Any ideas?

I would say, firstly try to get your phone working by wiping it clean and re flashing the rom. Use a different memory card just to get up and running. Then you can concentrate on fixing you card..
Although that seems like a very strange issue, are you sure you formatted your card correctly with GPart? (eg, exactly 512 MB/1024MB?) I'm a n00b myself so I would also wait for some of the more experienced users to offer their input. lol

Solved it by using AM recovery, repair + new partition solved the problem! Gonna reflash 2.0 again since i messed up the wiping somehow and then keep this until the rooted 2.2 is out!

E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 (File exists)

In Recovery (2.5.0.5) I get the error E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 (File exists) Everything seems to work except nothing happens when I wipe battery stats. I have tried messing around with parted but it says it doesn't exist and doesn't let me create a new one. Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it?
I'm thinking it might have happened when i updated my recovery to 2.5.1.1 But I'm not sure. Thanks.

Probably not. I have an 8 gig and like to plan for the future. Feel free to trim it, then let me know if it works and what size you used.
Thanks. That was quick and painless. I was able to make the SD ext partition 128mb. That's the smallest size it allowed.

Just a further question on that... I have read PonsAsinorem's sig and I understand what is going on, but what I don't understand is how app2SD froyo style is working: it lets me "move" my apps to the SD card from within Froyo, although there is no such /sd-ext partition in my SD card. Does it mean that in fact it is not really moving the apps to the SD card? I am a little bit puzzled here...
Thanks,

I haven't toyed around with apps2sd extensively. I don't have that many and they read quicker off internal, if only slightly, so that is where I keep them. Also makes it easier to flash ROMs (I'm a firm believer in wiping all data and remnants of the previous ROM). I also didn't come onto the Android scene till rift before Froyo so I was a rookie. Which is what this MIGHT be, a fragment of 2.1, or even earlier, left behind for compatibility purposes. I don't have enough background to answer this with certainty.

The apps2sd implementation for our phone doesn't actually move it to our sd card, it moves it to emmc (internal storage) instead and doesn't require an ext partition.
Hi, I have Galaxy s and i had the same error message so I did as explained... but now my phone get stuck on defalt recovery screen and when I try to select "apply sdcard:update.zip" it says "E:can't open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory) Installation aborted"...
what I understand is that the instructions for formatting the SD card wiped all the data including update.zip file.
Now my phone is no more usable, it get stuck on main default recovery(not clockwork) :-(
Please hepl me.. I know Its a another phone section but please help me if you can

I tried solving my problem just as described in the link above. I thought that it had been because I had partitioned my SD with too big a partition, 2 Gig. I resized my partition, exactly like described using AmonRa, without any problems except that the error still remained. I tried it again but this time with Clockwork. Again no success. I finally gave up and re-partitioned it with AmonRa and my original 2 Gig EXT partition. Finally success! I dont know if attempting with different recoveries did something but it worked and it worked with a 2 Gig EXT partition. Hope this helps someone else.

[Q] No Partition Options

YO!!
First off I want to say this site is dope and tons of help to match.
This has most likely been asked before, but..uh I dont see/get it.
I have been trying to create partition ext3-ext4 on my sd with absolutly no luck.
I've been readin this for days now and never seem to find a definitive answer.
Everyone says that while in recovery you have option to partion ext3-ext4, but I guess my phone is retarded for some reason. While in recovery(any version and its clockwork btw) if i go to partition sd, once in that menu it brings up 5 different sizes. I check the last one and then the second step is to pick the swap. After I check what I want for the swap it starts the partition. Nowhere in the recovery menus(anywhere) do i see any options for ext2-4(ext2, ext3, etc etc).
So my question is: If it's not there where do I find it or is there any other option and is it really worth it?
I know how to gpart (or whatever you call it) but not sure how to allocate the sizes. 32GB sd class4
I've finally figured out adb and flashed several times. Call me blind, call me crazy, call me stupid...just don't call me coffee.
any help would be great.
T-Mo G2 is the device.
ps. I guess I'll get this out of the way so i don't have to keep posting dumb questions. I notice when flashing roms and it goes to mount the sd-ext(might have that spelled wrong sorry) I always get an error saying unable to load dev/block/mmcblk1 not formating. Nothing happens and the roms still flash just fine(usually). I saw this question before but everything I read that was supposed to be a"fix" didn't work. I am assuming I'm getting this because my sd isn't properly partitioned. any help on this would swell as well
oh yeah and it's ENG S-Off and all that other jazz. Used the gfree/rage method
cheers
Theres an option in ROM Manager to partition your sdcard for you but I have never had any luck getting it to work.
Heres A LINK that will walk you thru partitioning your sdcard thru ADB, it works, I used it to partition my sdcard, Just remember the sdcard for the HTC VISION is at dev/block/mmcblk1, the instructions will tell you to partition dev/block/mmcblk0, but this is for a diffrent phone. You want to partition dev/block/mmcblk1.
WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO PARTITION dev/block/mmcblk0
thanks for the reply. I learned that last night, lol thats the one I learned from last night. Problem is I need some input on how much to allocate for each partition. 32GB card.
cheers
Are you trying to partition your sdcard for use with apps2ext? If so since you have such a high capacitiy sdcard I would partition it to 1024mb ext2, 32mb linux swap and the rest FAT32.
Just a side note, remember to remove the existing partiton (which is the stock fat32) before starting the partitioning process,
â– Command: rm 1 (deletes partition number 1)
so how to I get the ext4 partition? same as i did the first 3? the reason I ask is because I still dont have sd-ext after i partition with recovery. I want to move dalvic cache so that my widgets will work from sd card
If it helps im using GV1.5 rom with the proper recovery 3.0.0.5 ( which as I just noticed is now the new recovery rom manager wants you to flash...got tired of having to adb 3.0.0.5 everytime I wanted to test CM7 or GV1.5)
thanks
i just tried running the following in adb after card was wiped:
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 31712 that worked
mkpartfs primary ext2 31712 32736 and then got error saying:
The location 32736 is outside of the device /dev/block/mmcblk1
so i think the problem is my card is actually 29.9GB and since my math is crap I cant figure what esactly to put...
Just move your ext partiton a little lower, the same thing happened to me when I tried to partition at first, had to play with the numbers a little. You don't have to get the total card capacity filled with a card that big what's a few mb's.
Sent from my HTC Vision
maybe I should of asked this first.
My reasoning for doing this is I read somewhere that if you can upgrade to ext4 you would be able to run widgets off sd card because the phone thinks it's stll on the actual internal storage,
am I wrong?
There's only one rom that supports apps2ext , which is what your looking to do and that is Enoms rom, but there is also Darktremor's apps2sd mod in the dev section which will enable this on all roms, in either case you need a card partitioned to at least FAT/EXT2.
Sent from my HTC Vision
got it. after darktremors script while in shell i ran ap2sd cachesd and wa la.
thanks again

[Q] HTC Desire unable to mount SD card

Hi All,
I have a problem with my SD card. My phone doesn't recognise SD card after I created ext4 partition through partition magic on windows 7. Here is what happened.
- I have rooted desire running CM 7.0.3.
- I wanted to go back to Starburst 1.4 rom.
- I have class 4 16 gb sd card (fat + ext3) with 512 mb of ext3 and rest fat32 (this was when everything was running good)
- I flashed the new rom through CWM, but only got like 54 mb on sd left.
- So I manually formatted ext3 and changed it to ext4 using partition magic on windows 7 (connected sd card through a reader).
- After that I flashed the new rom, but still got the same size left.
- After that I went back to CM7.0.3 which is working fine for me.
However, at this time, my phone doesn't recognise my SD card.
- I saw that I can't format ext in recovery as i get this error
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2(File exists)
Error mounting SDEXT: !
I believe I was able to install CM7.0.3 coz it was a small rom was fit directly into phone's internal memory.
At this time, I can't see my SD card on phone. Can't play music or install any files or anything.
Looking for some quick help.
Thanks,
Satyam

Hi Matt,
So are you saying that you got your SD card formatted by someone else using Rom Manager ?
- As of now, when I click on the inbuilt ROM Manager in CM7, it says " The SD Card needs to be mounted to use ROM Manager!"
That means my SD card is abviously not read by my phone.
Looking for some help. I don't want to do something silly at this time.
Atleast, as of now my phone is not bricked and is working, just the SD is not.
Any suggestions/comments or link to my problem is more than welcome.
Thank You
Hmmm, i smell another usb brick here, we've had so many these days, and all by people using cwm and flashing gb sense roms...just to prove i'm right, can you connect the phone to your pc? If you're not able to do that, then u have 100% chance it's a usb brick.
OMG !! yeah you're right.. now when I connected my phone using a USB, it doesn't give me the option to "mount USB".

Hi,
Are you saying that formatting SD card and making fresh ext partition through a media reader will not help in this case ?
I am very confused so to say.. I read the link that you posted, it talks about CID which I'm not able to find.. Can't see that option in fast boot (recovery).
Is there some other way to fix all this ?

Nope: i'm sorry but there is no other way...the problem lies in the misc partition, and that one doesn't get touched by simply toying with your sd, it's on nand, and no rom flashing/nandroid restore can touch it either. This process is the only way to go. CID can be obtained via adb command, i hope you'll have it installed and set up correctly.

Hi,
Okay I get it.. I need to fix my nand partition, now question -
1) I can figure out the 1st step "Find out your CID. Go into fastboot mode, and do 'fastboot oem boot" - Nothing happens when I click on fast boot option in recovery mode. The other method CID generator also asks for CID.. how do I get that.. that's my biggest question.
2) How can I see the rom version.
I know, I might me sounding stupid, but I'm not a pro.. used to love flashing new ROMs earlier and this time I just messed it up.
Need some step-by-step help.. I might be asking for too much, but I trust this forum and believe Android has too many fans hooked to it.. so I will get some help

Hi,
Okay I get it..

Also just want to let the forum know that I'm running a custom ROM (CM 7) and don't see the option of software info under Settings>About phone. Any other way to find out rom version ???????/
Ok, sorry man, i was out for a ride
To see the CID you have to type "fastboot oem boot" in the terminal, after navigating to the path where you have the sdk, for example:
"cd c:/sdk/tools"
"fastboot oem boot"
Then you should get all the info, together with the CID ofc...obviously you need to have adb installed and working in order to do that (there ia a lot of tutorials for that, just use the search function).
As to rom version, you don't need it, just download the mtd0.img, open it with the hex editor and mod it with your CID, then go for the next step
I dont believe you have bricked your phone, i think you have created a partition on it without making it a primary partition along with the fat32 parition.
boot into recovery and mount your SD card to your PC. Reformat the whole card and then it should work again, you may just be able to go into your partition software and amend to show 'primary' on each, if not read on. Couple of options then, download ROM manager from the market and reformat the ext3 using rom manger if not do it via your windows software but make sure both partitions are set to 'Primary'.

It's a usb brick, not a plain brick: when you plug it to pc the phone usually doesn't even light up the led.
sorry, i read that he had full use of his phone bar the SD card
- I saw that I can't format ext in recovery as i get this error
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2(File exists)
Error mounting SDEXT: !

hi, seems you got bad partition on your sd card, since it s normal that you can't mount sd while plug on usb.
did you already put out your sd card out the phone and try to read it with a usb scard reader plug on your computer??
cid error mean you have messed-up your misc partition which is the one in your nand where the recovery is located... didn't see any error about this in your thread...
in the boot, should fail with error misc partiton cid unknown etc...
have a try about sd card reader it's easer than misc error fix
give a try on this site and try using gparted cd live... don't need to be expert in linux command (it s a graphical interface) should you know that FIRST FAT32 PRIMARY partition and LAST EXT3 (is less fast but really more stable and relyable fs) PRIMARY partition
hi, still me sorry for spamming, just found a nice TUT using gparted on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535914

Fixing misc doesn't take more than a minute if you have a working adb...repartitioning micro sd card takes loads of time instead, especially if it's big, coz you have to backup all of your data then copy them back, and that's a pain, especially if the sd isn't very fast.
Anyway you might be right there, just the other day a guy had a similar issue caused by multiple ext partitions not being recognized properly. I just thought it was a usb brick coz it's very common since the new gb sense roms rolled out and people started partitioning like crazy with cwm (which really SUCKS at that), and this either cause misc corruption or messed partitions on sd card: i'd suggest everyone to partition with amon them flash back any 3.0+ cwm to flash the rom, if you don't have the chance of using linux live cd (but you really should).
All sorted --------- RESLOVED !!!!
Okay Listen all Desire Owners-- I was able to fix this USB brick without having to go through all which was available on internet..
What I did -
1) Came home and formatted my EXT4 to ext3 and simply reflashed cm7 rom
All worked like charm - Now My SD card is mountable and works perfectly
Good for you
Anyway make sure you set up adb properly on your pc, it will save your life some day: it takes a while but it's worth it...i wouldn't get inti the rom flashing thing without it. Just a suggestion
Bests.

[Q] Problem moving data to SD

Hello all, I am a noob.
I Have come across a lot of helpful information here but I am falling short of my goal...
I have a wildfire s with wildchild 3 installed on it and guess what... I have storage issues.
I am using link2sd and also have titanium backup pro which as I am aware it the best app to move data.
I have already integrated the sys dalvik into the rom which has provided me with space but the data continiues to clog the phone up.
I have read many forums but can not find a answer that works for me.
I am led to believe that the name for the mount script or folder is stopping me from getting the option in TB to copy data to sd.
I am really lost for answers and seek words of wisdom.
This is the final hurdle and once I pass this then I know my wildfire will be the greatest it can be.
If anyone can help then I would be extremely greatful.
Tony
try this, worked like a charm for me

Well I must say this had worked very well for me!... Right up to the point when I rebooted my phone and it got stuck on the ROM loading screen.
I had only installed 2 apps too which I moved to SD and copied the data over from the Google Maps app.
Could it be that the ROM is not compatible?

I thought I had it...
I read on and saw that the mount thing that you mentioned had said to have 100mb free space for every 500mb ext so I partitioned my drive with only 256mb which technically would have worked perfect with the wildfire s' lack of storage,
It was going so well but now again out of the blue the device will not boot. anyone with any other ideas?
I had about 50-60 app's installed before it decided to give up and it showed over 80mb using the mount script that was recommended.

How much size did you allocate for both partitions, FAT 32, and EXT2?
I have a 4GB card, and i partitioned it like this:
FAT 32 , primary, 2.69 GB
EXT2, primary, 1 GB
P.s. Speed Droid's ROM is working fine with this, you could try this if you still have issues

FAT32 29.4GB Primary
Linux Ext3 243MB Primary
I never noticed till now that the partition is Ext3. Could this make a difference? The partition was made using clockwork recovery and didn't give me the option to choose.
I am downloading the Speed Droid's ROM for testing but if I was honest... I am a lover of the Wildchild ROM's

I would suggest to try it like this:
FAT32 27GB Primary
Ext2 2GB Primary (Use the MinitoolPartition Wizard)
Your not going to believe this...
I wasn't doing anything wrong at all. Its Poweramp!!! The app for some unknown reason seems to crash during installation and does some kind of damage to the phone/ROM causing it to not reboot.
I have tested this several times and now have 63 apps minus the system apps and of course minus the rogue poweramp and everything works fine and the phone reboots in way under a minute.
Dude, thank you very much for your help.
I thought that this might have been a common issue but obviously not due to the lack of comments...
With your help my wildfire is now as great as any other phone now.
Thank you
Have you tried cronmod int2ext?
