OTA update while rooted?

Hey there
I was running Viper ROM but I decided to go stock in order to check for OTA updates and receive it once it's there.
I couldn't find the correct RUU for my device so I went for this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
Now it is unrooted and such. I am also considering flashing the stock recovery and removing CWM. However, is that really necessary for receiving OTA updates from the "Software Update" feature under Settings? And do I have to be unrooted or can I use Rooting Tools (SuperSU, etc.) and root the phone through CWM?
Thanks
As long as you are on the stock ROM and you have flashed the stock recovery as well, you can receive the OTA anytime, regardless if you are rooted or not.
Thank you for your reply.
Does this mean I am on stock ROM and will be able to receive OTA updates once I flash the stock recovery.img?

Okay I flashed the stock recovery.img.

(Q) No advanced menu in recovery mode.

Hello everyone. Today finally root my note 2 but already got one problem. I use Odin and looks like everything was okey. Odin shows me "PASS" and install SuperSU. After rooting i try go to recovery mode and istall ARHD but when i entering in recovery mode i didnt see anything like "Install zip" Basiclly there is only default menu, "wipe data/ reset, cache etc! What should i do now? I never ever in my life did anything like that so have no idea. Should i remove root and try reroot or i can reroot without stock FW installing?
I believe you need a custom recovery.
Download TWRP or Philz Recovery
Mate, FROM? Have no idea.
Btw i tried GooManager but its crash all the time.
Is this the recovery u are seeing?

Few suggestions needed to upgrade my Note 2.

Hi all,
Before I write up, I just wanna say that I am familiar with rooting/unrooting procedure, cwm installation, rom installation etc. I used to own Galazy Nexus and was very comfortable flashing custom stuff on it.
Now that I own a Note 2 (T-mobile), I recently got an update (firmware) from T-Mobile and I am not sure which of the versions I need to install to get it working correctly.
Here are the details

So can anyone guide me which tools and software to use to get it rooted, custom recovery and in turn make way to install a custom rom.
Odin the TWRP, then flash supersu 2.45. I'm not sure about the 4.3 bootloader though. It might trip your Knox.

Updating from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 Q's

I've unlocked my bootloader and verified that it is rooted via Root Checker. That is all I did thus far, before that my note 4 was virgin unmodified in any way. How can I safely upgrade from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1... or should I update to 6.0? I want to install a custom ROM. Also if I wanted to go back to any stock ROM, can I just flash it via odin without any issues now that my phone is set to Developer mode? is there a different version I need to use or can I still use the following thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
On a side note, I tried to flash 5.0.1 stock and 5.1.1 stock from the link above... it simply failed when trying to flash it... see pic below
I've been out of the loop for rooting, it's been some years since I've rooted an android device, so any and all relevant advice/info would be appreciated... Thanks in advance...

a mess. back to 6.0.1 on 901V - has anything changed /improved for unlocking bootloader?

well im stuck. looks like flashing the 6.0.1 stock ware destroyed my pre-exisitng root. Can someone help? has anything changed in the last few yrs.(to make it easier)..anyway to root from 6.0.1 or do i have to do the pain downgrade to 5.0.1...? ( i tried cf-root and twrp - both failed..the bootloader is locked ..damn it..)
1) since i'm not rooted then any backup would not contain all the settings (pw/usernames etc)....its been a few years..is there anyway to keep full settings in a backup without being rooted?
2) if i downgradefrom 6.0.1 and flash the 5.0.1 firmware will my programs / settings be kept? I only ask because if i don't bother clearing the cache ....it may be "dirty" downgrade...but would i keep my apps/settings?
3) if i d/g to 5.01 and root it...how do i then upgrade back to 6.01 without losing the root again?
pics below of current situation...thanks
