i've been browsing the "post your home screen" thread in the themes/apps subcategory and i've noticed that a lot of people use widgetlocker to get really impressive looking lock screens.
im debating getting that application too but reading the reviews of the application, it seems some people are having battery draining problems. can anyone who is using widgetlocker comment on their battery life and whether or not using widgetlocker will cause any noticeable changes?
i primarily just want to change the lock screen wallpaper and add a few toggles
I use Widget Locker and have not noticed any excessive battery drain. I've used it for some time both on the Droid Incredible and now on the Galaxy Nexus and have been quite pleased over all.
No excessive battery drain here.
I've been using it since it was initially available and have used both stock and WL for various periods.
Unless a bad widget is used in WL it causes no appreciable difference in battery usage in my experience.

Is there anyway to get rid of how the screen bounces from left to right? Its really annoying...Also when you slide down the notification bar is there anyway to have a on off switch there for 3g & all background data? Also, is there anyway to get the battery life of a CM7 mod to that of stock rom?
BTW is it just me or is the CM 7 mod (im using the destroyer v2 version of CM7) much faster than stock rom or in my case Im using the Spring Lovers rom? Does changing the profiles in the CPU settings change anything like going from ondemand which I am on now to performance? It seems that the sprint lovers battery lasts much longer that is currently my only downside for this mod...
You should have an app anim mod or something that will edit the screen transitions, but it can be tricky to use.
I think you can just open the spare parts app and change transition animations to off. That should do it.
For the 3g data toggle, go to menu>settings>CM Settings>Interface>Notification Widgets. From there you can put where ever toggles you want in there.
Most people feel like AOSP ROMs are a little faster just b/c they have less crap in them compared to Sense ROMs. That's why they're only 60-80mb instead of 150+.
You can play with the governors in CPU settings and see which one works for you. I think conservative or OnDemand are the way to go, depends on how they work for you.
When switching from Sense to AOSP, you need to wipe battery stats. Charge the phone until it's full, unplug it and turn it off. charge it while it's off until the green light comes back on and unplug it again. Do that 10 times. Then go into recovery and wipe battery stats. That should get you more battery life.

If those don't work, try the tiamat Kernel. Should be able to squeeze 20hrs out of the battery on light/moderate use.
If you're talking about the scrolling on the launcher, go into the launcher's settings and turn elastic scrolling off (or change it to 0 if elasticity is a numeric option).
Destroyer has bounce transitions. I think that's what he's talking about.
i turned mine off by using menu>setting>display>animation then selected "some animations" hat turned the annoying screen flip off.
Yes the bounce transitions! They hurt my head!
The default battery status is ugly as hell. Its displayed as an icon.. How can i just have the text like in AOKP? (85%, 60%, 10%, etc..)
I have checked in the battery option and got nothing displayed. Only help.
The build i have is the one from Koush in CWM.
I dont want a widget.. I would like to have it displayed on the lock screen, and in the top right corner.
Thanks.
You can always check in the themes and apps thread... there are some up top just make sure its ICS and not Jelly Bean lol

Stock Android doesn't have a battery percentage option. You can have a graphical battery and that's it. You'll have to flash a mod to get it (like most customizations).
I was super stoked to get battery % back in the day, but now I realize why its pretty much unnecessary. Battery drain is so variable on a phone based on what you're doing at that time, your network, running apps, etc. that its not a linear drain (just look at your battery stats at the end of the day). So a battery % really doesn't give you a good idea of how long your phone will be lasting from that point. I found with a battery % mod I spent more time worrying about the % and turning on the screen to check it, that my battery life would be longer if I just had a bar displayed.
As the title suggests, I was wondering if the use of widgets on the homescreen greatly reduces your battery life? I'm sure it's a very naive question, but my real concern is if that drain is INCONSEQUENTIAL? Is it really worth it to make a more streamlined homescreen, bereft of any ease-of-access apps?
Thanks!
It's not the Widget as much as how much data does the widget use, especially if you aren't using WiFi. (3G/4G data is a battery killer) For instance if you have a weather widget or a facebook or twitter widget that updates every 15 minutes, that's going to be a major battery killer. If they only update when you turn on the screen then the battery usage is much lower.

^^^^ this... it all depends on the widget... if it's a data using widget, yes, it can eat through your battery faster than a seafood lover eating lobster, if it's a music widget for a music player, not so much
shut off all widgets = battery saver
turn on all widgets = battery drainer
I am currently running a custom ROM instead of TW on my S3. I have noticed that my battery use just takes a dive off a cliff when the screen is in use. I thought AMOLED was a bit more efficient. I try to run with just a black wallpaper and usually enable dark themes on my ROM but the very little screen on time still just kills my battery. I can leave the phone on with wifi running for hours and it will go for a while but the screen just kills the battery. Does the screen color temp help? I tried warm and cool settings and such. Is it this way with Touchwiz also? Overall, the battery lasts me over a day because I am not on my phone 24/7 but the rapid depletion with little bits of screen on time is weird. Is this a kernel issue? BTW I run brightness widget and leave it on 0%. I also use LCD screen filter although that doesn't actually make the backscreen light dimmer as it just places an overlay to make the screen appear dimmer.
Thanks for any recommendations ya'll can make.
Update: Lux allows me to drop the brightness down below Brightness widgets' 0%. This should help out.
2 things.
1 is your device overclocked?
2 and the fact that you are on a custom ROM causes battery issues due to some improper optimizations.

1. Not overclocked
2. I can see where that could be.
Thanks.

I'm using an app called Always on AMOLED/Edge Lighting by newGen Mobile and it's pretty cool. It has an always on clock and edge lighting (weird considering the name ) that lights when an alert comes in (email, etc.). The edge alert is great since there is no LED. The free app is pretty good, but there are a lot more options with the paid app - for $2 it's worth it. Battery drain is very low too, but I use all white text on the clock face - color will drain it faster.
I'm not the developer or represent them in any way, just a satisfied customer.
Awesome thanks.
I dl this app the first or second day I got the phone and immediately deleted it cause of the battery drain on my device was ridiculous is the battery drain fixed??
If you're rooted try substratum app and the aod enabler theme in the play store.
