It's normal. If you flashed the stock image, it won't be there. If you flash an earlier stock image and upgraded via OTA, it will be there. No need to worry about it.
doubt

How important is this file ?? ("recovery-from-boot.p")
i have update.zip from manufacturer. Inside zip file, there is folder "recovery" containing "recovery-from-boot.p" and folder "etc" containing "install-recovery.sh"
If i delete recovery folder & sign the file again & update it, will it work?
What difference does it make?
is recovery anyway related to rooting the mobile?
(I am an amateur & i am trying to learn Android ROM modding, & development, please help me out)

Those two files do nothing except yo reflash the stock recovery every time you boot android. They don't exist on stock roms, but rather are put there by ota update files. They are safe to delete.
P.s. no need to resign the zip if you are using CWM.

Not sure what that device is, but:
Root is just two files place on your system:
/system/bin/su
/system/app/Superuser.apk
You will need to find a way to place them there, either by using an exploit to give you write access to /system, or by booting an insecure boot image if you can. Don't think I can help you any more than that without knowing the device.

The device trying to root is Karbonn A9. We have rooted the phone by replacing it with another recovery.img. To unroot, we used update.zip given by Service centre. Inside that, there is ""recovery-from-boot.p"" inside recovery folder. After updating using the update.zip, we are unable to root again. If delete recovery folder in update.zip, & update the phone again, will it delete the "recovery-from-boot.p" & will it possible allow us to root again?
Other doubts:
Does replacing recovery.img via fastboot change IMEI number? One of our developer got his phone bricked. he took his phone to service center. They said, they don't have their IMEI number in their database.

As I had mentioned earlier, those files do nothing else aside from re-flashing the stock recovery on every boot. If you delete the folder and re-apply the update, chances are the update will not work -- not because you deleted the folder, but because you already applied the update.
If you want to root again, you have to follow the procedure you used the first time you rooted.
No, the recovery does not contain the IMEI, so flashing a new recovery will not affect the IMEI.

I need to send my device in for warranty. It's from rogers and when I got it, it was not yakju. Right now its unlocked, rooted, and running AOKP, and franco. To put it back to oem state, I'm planning on using Wug's toolkit. That'll flash yakju, unroot it, and lock the bootloader.
My question is whether this method will flash the factory kernel too, if it'll flash the stock recovery, and if my carrier will care/notice that I have yakju installed.
Ok so I got a backup of yakjuux. But then how do I flash this via Clockwork, unroot, flash stock recovery, and lock bootloader? Can someone point me to a thread.
If I send the device in with stock yakju, and locked bootloader, would they void my warranty. Can't I just tell em it came like that. There's no way they can prove I changed it.

Sounds right
Honestly MOST company's will honor their warranties if it is a hardware failure even with unlocked boot loader and custom recovery.

I'm assuming you downloaded my nandroid backup?
Here's what you need to do:
1) Unzip the file to a folder on your PC with the same name as the zip.
2) Place that folder on your device in /sdcard/clockworkmod/download
3) Reboot into CWM and restore the backup.
4) Using a file explorer that has root access, delete the following in order: 1) the contents of /system/xbin, 2) /system/app/Superuser.apk, 3) /system/su
5) Reboot into fastboot mode and flash the stock recovery from the yakju image (it is the same as yakjuux): fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
6) Relock the bootloader: fastboot oem lock

4 can be done on your phone. If you want to do it on a computer, boot into CWM, plug into a computer an use rm to delete the files/directory. 5 and 6 NEED to be done on a computer.
I can help more tomorrow if it is not clear. Going to bed now...

download the galaxy nexus toolkit it can do all of that automatically for you. i had to return my first gnex and it took 20mins to bring everything back to stock. it includes everything you need except the factory image and you can download from google and put in the toolkit folder and it will flash it for you.

Here lies the point of this thread. The factory image is yakju and my phone came equipped with yakjuux.
Was yours originally yakju? if not did you have issues after you sent it back?
mine was yakju from my carrier. if you got your phone from the carrier then check if they rolled out yakju yet. if you use the images from here it will flash everything back to stock except recovery which you have to do after as well as lock the bootloader. flashing using the google images will also remove root. you can also try this cwm yajkuux from this thread

Do you read threads before you post?? The OP already said that his device came with yakjuux. It does not get "updated" to yakju... ever. So the images on Google's site are not very useful to him, now are they?
Secondly, he already said that he ALREADY downloaded my backup (from thread I started) so why are you linking to it??
Thirdly, and unrelated to the OP, the stock recovery IS included in the yakju images you linked to, so your comment about "it will flash everything back to stock except recovery" is wrong, as it does flash it.

I've just flashed 4.2 on my i9250 and I can't find the files that I used to change name to stop stock recovery from coming back.
Is there any new reversible way to do this?
I'm rooted and I boot TWRP without flashing every time I want to access a costume recovery.
Many thanks

Did you mount the system as r/w?
if the file ain't there, no need to erase it; if you flashed factory images, that file doesnt exist, only in OTAs

huh... what does that has got to do with anything for reading purposes. RO (read only) allows to read the files and directories.

Thanks for the clarification. In fact I flashed the stock 4.2 image because OTA update wasn't working (not stock kernel).

nope you just need to wipe data and cache after that install this zip and if you want it include gapps too, after all installed successfully turn on your phone wait it. for first boot it take a while and if this very longer / stuck in black screen turn off your phone and flash the boot.img from this zip with fastboot mode from your phone and turn on again and it will be worked
And how do i acess recovery to install the rom? Do i need to flash a custom one? And so when before flashing do i have to delete any of those files that are in the root of the zip? And the boot.imh what is, the rom? The recovery?

Yes boot.img is for recovery mode , you need to flash that from fast boot mode after you flash cm12.zip and gapps.zip too and don't forget to wipe data and cache after install both of them
But do i need root to flash the recovery? Isnt impossible to flash the recovery after flashing the new OS? Lolll

Problem: We can download the firmware from Asus in the form of a zip file. We can use adb sideload <firmware>.zip to sideload the firmware.
Request: How can I flash that firmware using fastboot? It looks like I need to use a .img file. How do I convert that .zip file to a .img file?
Reason: I found a situation where using the sideload method didn't seem to work correctly. I ended up having to get a pre-rooted .img and flashed that, but I want a "virgin" img file. Thanks.
If you install zip from ASUS download site (not OTA!) then you will get virgin stock ROM after update.
This kind of update (around 1GB) erases system partition before install, so it doesn't matter how hard you've modified previous firmware. SU, Xposed, etc - everything will be automatically wiped before install.
The question is how do you convert .zip to .img?

tools to build img from zip (only full ROM, not OTA) published there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/orig-development/rom-pre-root-img-t3079590
But keep in mind, it's for advanced users. I would say, for developers.
Thanks. I asked that nice feller if he was able to do such a thing as I'm not a dev or even well-versed in Linux.
What firmware zip are you looking to flash?
flashing system.img was just temporary solution, as the only way to root or modify firmware before bootloader unlock.
With unlocked bootloader and custom recovery you can modify update.zip as much as you want and then install it.
Even if you don't want to unlock the bootloader, then you can use temporary custom recovery and install any modified zip.
So, in general you don't need to create system.img anymore. Just use zip to install whatever you want.

Hi,
can you make system.img, pre-rooted or not, like @shakalaca?
I tried but I haven't enough knowledge to do, though I tried to install a ghitub, etc, etc.
I would like to download the system.img fro last firmware, Z00A-WW.2.19.40.22.
Thanks
Hey,
Quick question, I'm away on holiday and had to use an RUU to reset my phone completely back to stock. I don't have my PC with me but was wondering if there might be any other way to get TRWP installed so I can get back to custom ROM's before the end of my trip?

I've described how to do this for CM-based ROMS with Samsung devices. Unfortunately, I know of no way to do this for the HTC 10. The issue is getting it rooted. My understanding is that the Sunshine app can root some 10s, but not all. You could try that. When you run the app it will do a series of tests on your device. If it cannot be rooted by the app it will give the message, "Root is required first." Otherwise, the app can root your device and proceed from there. Once rooted you could then use Flashify to install TWRP.

Thanks guys!!
I'm trying to figure out, if I want to flash just the recovery with the no wipe zip, can I delete all the other .img files within the zip or do I have to edit the Android-info.txt for the corresponding lines?
No issue in flashing the no wipe file as it is, just curious for future reference if I wanted to create easy 2PS6IMG.zip's in the future.
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA Labs
I simply take the firmware.zip from OTA, delete all .img files, rename twrp.IMG to recovery.IMG and repack it to 2PS6IMG.zip
You don't need to change the android-info.txt as partitions without images won't get wiped, even if it says so.
You can flash Boot, Recovery and..... And.... Which was the third one? Without S-Off or signed firmware package.
