Okay, so I'm too new to XDA to post in the developers' thread, so I'm asking here: I have been flashing LC'a CM9 builds for the Desire HD on my Inspire 4g and am very excited about it. Everything works enough for me to make it a daily driver. However, I'm getting three soft keys on the screen, under the dock. I'm assuming these are the keys for a real DHD, where we have hard keys already. Was wondering if a: anyone else is getting them, and b: if/how they can be turned off.
Note: I didn't search the development thread, because I've read dang near every post, even the off-topic ones and didn't see any mention of the problem. But since that is a Desire HD forum, the issue may not be known (yet)
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Should be an option in settings to disable the buttons...
From LC build 7.2 - 16-12-2011 changelog:
added On-Screen button toggle option in settings, requires reboot
(i'm not on ICS right now so i don't exactly know were it is located...)
Found it. It was under the (to me) non-intuitive location of "Settings->Display-> Enable/Disable Navigation Bar" (toggle).
I would have expected it to be in Trebuchet...
Thank you for the assistance.

I would like some insight on how I would go about changing one of the button's on the pulldown bar. I wanna change the Bluetooth to a 3G toggle.
Me too, I wanna change 4g to brightness

Mystery or one of the other devs already explained that it is just too much work to modify it. Wait for Cyanogenmod if you want the feature badly.
Well,
Think it's better to bump this thread rather than writing a new one...
I'm looking for the same thing and many Samsung users seem to have the same questions. In my country I have no WiMAX, so I want to change the button so it toggles data completely.
If someone had at least a clue where this is configured, I would be glad to take a look into my rooted Epic and see if I can do it at least manually, would be the first step.
Really? Cause Maddoggin is working on it and apparently has it just about finished for his gingerbread mod. A lot of work? Maybe. Too much work? Guess that depends how much you want it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
It's suppose to be almost the same work as porting the puzzle lock.If anyone can we know Maddaggin will and could.
Well,
As far as I had checked the posts, I had no clue of someone doing it already. I see two parts that can be time consuming: finding what to change and getting proper icons so it looks seamless.
I will be checking out more often to see if there's a solution. I just don't need the 4G toggle at all, so it's much better if I can replace it with something else...
First, a comment: Thank you all so much for taking over the CM9 development - I'm loving ICS on my 4G, and really appreciate the stability that was absent from another ROM that I had previously tried.
With that said:
I flashed 1.7.5, and seem to be having problems with the ROM retaining settings, specifically with keyboard choice and brightness (haven't played with it for long, so I may have missed other settings as well):
Keyboard setting: Always defaults to the standard keyboard, will not retain the setting to use Swype (every time I try to set it, when I come back the check mark is gone).
Screen brightness: Seems to be defaulting to about 1/3 the slider. I can change the slider setting, but as soon as I hit OK it defaults back to the same setting. Auto is not checked, when I try to check it, it reverts as well.
Sorry if this is a repeat, I didn't find it posted elsewhere.
The dev said to go back to version 1.7 and not to use 1.7.5.

This is correct! Papasmurf is currently working on an update and should be out here soon.......don't ask for ETAs
Hey thanks! I didn't see that post, was looking around for some kind of info in the thread.
And yeah, I know better than to ask for dates
Dumb question though - I only found the one download link - where can I find the previous versions?
Thanks again.
You can find the link in any official Team DIRT thread.

Ok, I'm sorry to be a PITA - but the only link I find is to the changelog download page - and that is only for 1.7.5. *sigh*
1.7 should also be on that page. Try refreshing the page.

Your not being a PITA, I can't find it either. The page only shows 1.7.5 and 2.0 which is not actually downloadable yet (requests a user name and password) I can download 1.7.5 but didn't after reading these posts.
I always start with a preemptive apology if this has been posted elsewhere (I searched hard, but sometimes I end up getting chastised)
First, specs of the culprit phone:
HTC Desire Z (T-Mobile G2) Running CM7 Stable.
Anyway! I have been enjoying my G2 since the day I upgraded from my day one G1. I am familiar with rooting, but not an expert with the android system. Something has always bothered me on the G2 with CM7. After rooting and flashing my top row of buttons do not input the correct numbers when forced into a numerical entry only (e.g. I want to dial with the flip out keyboard.) With the stock rom if I push the button that is "Q" and "1" in the dialer it would input a 1, but after rooting and flashing all the numbers flip around.
Specifically:
pushing Q-W-E-R-T-Y-U-I-O-P should output 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-0, instead it is 7-9-3-7-8-9-8-4-7-6. If I push alt, and then the number it works correctly.
I realize there are other ways to input the numbers (onscreen keyboard), but this is bothering me.
Any input, help, theories, etc... would be appreciated.
just tested on cm7 elitemod, same here although if you hadn't mentioned it I never would have known!
if it really bothers you I'm sure it is a cm7 issue, you could try and find another rom with a different base and see if that works or you would have to remap the buttons to the stock phone app (?) to get it to work, I'm sure there is a fix but couldn't tell you the exact steps
also you could report it to cyanogen if the team really cares about gingerbread still maybe rc3 will have a fix thanks to your bug report

It's mimicing a touch tone phone so that when the listed number is 800-555-HELL you can type that and you'll get the proper numbers (eg. 800-555-4355)

now that makes perfect sense, not a bug at all I guess but rather a neat feature! sorry but if you report this to cm they will not care as I assume it is all as intended!
if you really want to not hit alt you'll have to have to remap yourself

RENOVATE, why don't you stick with the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" principle?
I'm referring to the RENOVATE team's decision to do away the input method notification from the notification bar. Yes, monolinguals may not change their keyboard for their whole life, but multi-linguals like me speak and write 4 languages and change keyboard many times a day! This newly introduced "feature" (read: bug) is so irritating that I have to flash another ROM. The input method notification is there for a reason! If it ain't broken, don't ever fix it! The RENOVATE team can feel free to disable it by default if they like, but not give people options to enable it?

Yep it was! Imo it's pointless, we don't change keyboards every 5 minutes so why have it there!
Kill apps is working fine here mate, have you flashed and mods containing an android.policy.jar?

For now, try another rom
For this problem, you'd better write to the leader of the team, because you can't write in Renovate's Thread..

Thank you mate. The app works. For the time being I think it's the best solution.
But still, AOSP has a built-in feature that works just fine and then someone decided that the users can't use it because they don't use it, and now I have to download an app to do what I used to be able to do. It is just not right. I'm very disappointed at this kind of attitude.
Re: RENOVATE, why don't you stick with the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" princi
Top be honest mate you can't please all the people all the time and you might not like it but others will do unless you're going to build your own Rom then your bang out of luck.

Well, considering we do this for free... and most of us use SwiftKey anyways it's our choice in the end whether we want to include that function or not.

Well i didnt know we had so many multi language speaking users! For most people, they set up a keyboard, then they won't ever change it, therefore the notification coming up every time you write something gets really annoying. If it's such a big deal i'll add the keyboard switcher back in.
Wouldnt it of been a lot easier to just ask nicely in thread and not create a thread about it?
and long press to kill apps is 100% working how it should be.

He can't post in Development threads since he's a new user mate.
IceColdJelly (or AOKP, not sure) has the option to disable the keyboard popping up in the notification bar - i disabled it my self. It should atleast be a user choice. On the other hand, if it can be revived by a simple app, the devs may remove it if they wish, its their project, and its done free of charge in spare time
This is my first time I am ever posting and I am extremely anxious and shy about doing this or if I even make myself understandable and as helpful as I can..... Please if there is something that doesn't make sense please let me know so I can try to be a little more clear....
Now........To Begin
:victory:
I had a previous Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 SPH-D710 that did not have this problem at all but I traded it for a black one because I did not like having a white phone and that's where my problems began....I had known the phone had a pressing button problem but I did not know what it was at the time or what it was called. But I was sure there was a way to fix it somehow. As soon as I had the phobe in my hands I saw how horrible it was.....It did not let me do anything not even for 30 seconds without the menu, back buttons, and I was upset because since I had to reinstall a new ROM on this phone (which I don't mind that's the fun part) but the keys kept going off every couple of seconds so I decided to look into finding a way to fix it and I did kinda. And I will post the link to the first one too because it can be useful and work for someone else and if it wasn't fir that post I wouldn't have thought of my fix.
Anyway here is the link to the first one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=
I followed these steps and basically what it is, is a method where you disable your hardkey that is causing you problems and switching it to the search button since most of us really don't use the search key anyway. But I won't go much into detail the post above goes more in depth. In the beginning it actually worked but then I noticed that the back key started pressing itself and then the menu still presses itself and even now and the search button which was converted to the new menu so I got upset and exasparated because to even do this method took me literally 2 hours because the damn keys wouldn't stop pressing themselves. And then I thought of another method which to me proved easier than that and does work. I simply used the same method but when I got to the General.kl instead of disabling one key I disabled all 4 and bang problem solved! But BEFORE that you need to make sure you have already installed an app where you can get your hardkeys on your screen and set it up to where you kniw your keys all work * OH AND YOU NEED TO BE ROOTED FOR THE SETTINGS FOR MENU AND BACK WORK! *. And I found a really good and free app in the market that is easy to use and wont get in the way of your screen while typing and customizable. It is called "Floating Toucher" and once installed and set up and disabled keys in General.kl and rebooted phone everything was working fine!!!! AND IT WORKED JUST FINE YOU JUST HAVE TO GET USED TO NOT TOUCHING KEYS ANYMORE AS THEY DON'T WORK BUT ITS TRUSTHWORTHY!....
Anyway I when all this happened I had GB27 4.1.2 and I wanted an upgrade so I flashed to Revolt JB ROM 4.3.1 (will post link to this ROM if you are interested in this method) and after that because the phone reset itself the hardkeys were enabled again. So because I it was a new ROM for me I looked in depth at their settings and there is where I found my solution!
1. Go to your settings and you go to Revolt Control.
2. When you are there you will see they have extra settings for the phone.
3. Scroll down to: Pie Controls
4. Click on the first setting that says: Pie Controls/ Allows navagation and status report and enable it.
5. Customize the settings how you want then to be to your liking!
6. Go back to previous menu.
7. Scroll down to: Soft Keys Options
8. Click on: Enable Soft Keys Options
9. You will notice all four of your hard keys are there including the setting when you long press them. Simply click on each one and press blank on all of them.
10. Then you go to previous screen and reboot and there! Easier than having to install over apps or disable keys! Its in the settings already and I am extemely happy now! No more Phantom Ghost Key!!!

Still the wrong device forum... You have an Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710). This forum is for Epic 4G (SPH-D700), a totally different device with a slide-out keyboard. There's a separate forum for your device.
