The wiki ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com ) contains a tiny start of what could become a very nice FAQ. I do not have time over the next weeks to expand what's there, and appeal to any and all with some time on their hands to please see if they can add structure, or just questions and their answers. Feel free to change it until it's good, that's what wikis are for.
Nice post peter
Question for you
How would you feel if you had spent over 2 months building a wiki for the blueangel, posting the files to the ftp site, to find that they got deleted on the 16 .
Pm 2 admins, one picking up the pm but not repliying, the orher not picking up the pm.
Rebuilding the trashed ftp site, re linking the wiki links, Posting to the ftp non public thread, reading that it will happen soon, watching the ftp site getting trashed again (today) and then reading your reqest?
Ps you have a pm from me datedted 16 march, feel like picking it up?
Why this beautifull FAQ (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel) is not visible for ordinary people? I found it by accident.
But it is!
Top of screen to the right is the link wiki.xda-developers.com
On that page under HTC Device you will find Blueangel
The Blueangel Link gets you to that page
Never thought that behind these WiKi activities this FAQ is hidden - put another link under this WiKi.XDA-devloppers.com link with something like "How Blue Angel works" or "Blue Angel FAQ" or "Knowledgebase". So a person who visits for the first time immediatly sees this fine product of hard labor.
What happen to the Magician section ? Are we being ignore ???
Well, I really love your job, however, my device is being left out !!
Wiki like the forum is user driven. In short if no user feels the need or want to update wiki then it just does not happen.
You dont need to be a moderator to add pages in wiki, you dont even need to be good in english for somebody down the line will add or correct your page.
I have to say - that's a real shame.
There's a lot of information requested on these forums that has been requested before - but often it's buried deep in a confusing thread (most recently the splash image tweaks for the HTC Wizard - I have no idea what util tweaks what splash).
I just created a Wiki page (search for my username, I guess - it's not really linked from anything much yet), and I plan to create more related to the Wizard as time becomes available.
Wikis are inherently much better at giving concise information than an open-discussion forum... wish people would use it.
Help with the SiteManagement Project
Please see the following forum topic to see how you can further help with the FAQ Wiki Project:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=226744#226744
We need as much help as possible to create a sustainable platform in order to further create a workable and informative website, so please check out this topic and see what you can do to help!
Hi guys, is it possible to have access to google-analytics results? Since we need to know for what the users are looking for - the most common search, how they act in site (in wiki! and so on)
Then we can make THE wiki.
Posting to the ftp non public thread, reading that it will happen soon

Only the admin (Flar) can change them.
Please send a PM request it.

I have started a relatively ambitious project to re-work the wiki pages as well as create a central place for site management projects including the webpages, forum and wiki. Obviously since I am just one person and not even a moderator or admin I will be needing a lot of help from everyone.
The forum is still the ONLY place to make normal requests. These wiki pages will be edited as issues are posed in the fora, especially the "About xda-developers.com" forum for site, forum and wiki queries.
The SiteManagement wiki pages will be for admins, mods and active contributers to collect and identify work that needs to be done.
I have created these pages because there is a lot of disparate, yet excellent, work being done on the site. And at the same time there is an obvious lack of response in the forums to certain issues which need to be addressed. Coupled to this there is a underlying disconuity in the wiki pages making simple browsing tedious.
Enter the SiteManagement Wiki Pages!
Please all interested in helping the xda-developers.com project continue being the success it is take a look at this wiki entry and see where they can help. We also need people to scan through the About forum and collate all requests yet to be completed.
Lets get the pages act together, so we can better server others and ourselves and make this devmod site something to be proud of!
Marc

Why has Forum [PDA] such a url:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php
archive because it is read-only? Is there a plan to make it possible to post etc. using the PDA version like this?
BTW: have searched with text "PDA" and found 0 entries.
Well, no, the whole purpose of the archive is that, er, its an archive. A backup of what has been said.
Or is it that what you are after is a low tech posting area on the forum ?
I think what he's asking for is a good template for browsing the forum with PDA screen, and with the ability to post also from PDA. The pocketnavigation.de site that hfrmobile linked is a good example of how it should look like.
This is something we discussed in the moderators forum after the migration from phpbb to vbulletin, but nobody has done anything about it yet.
We're not good XHTML/CSS designers, but suggestions or templates for PDA browsing compatible with the current forum engine are always appreciated

Ahh, you have such a way with words. Yes, if I'd thought about it a bit more I could have worded it to as you said, but obviously without the knowledge you have of the systems here
Hi,
I've recently got a Touch Diamond and have found certain aspects of this forum helpful however I can't help but feel that this place has an appauling forum layout.
Are you afraid of creating some sub-sections or something? I mean seriously, what's the point of all the square bracket tags on the start of topic titles?
They don't make it easier to find because the topics are still jumbled up with all the others anyway and a good topic title should let you know what it is related to in the first place. I thought that maybe at least a search for a certain tag would reveal all of those topics but alas no, the search gave me no results at all even though I can see them on the screen in the forum listing it still doesn't find them.
Take the Diamond themes, apps & s/w section for example...
Why not simply create a sub-section for related topics such as Themes and hence have all theme topics together and do away with the need for tagging the titles.
Sorry to criticise your forum but I just don't see the logic in the current system as it makes things very difficult to find, especially when the search tells me there are no results containing [THM] or 1.93 etc.
Thanks for the reply regarding the search, hopefully I'll be able to find a little more of what I'm looking for now.
I've come across plenty of forums that don't allow searches for less than 4 characters but surely [THM] is 5 characters
Anyway, that's not my main point, I just think that the forum ingeneral would be friendlier to browse and need less searching if it was better organised to begin with.
Thanks again for the reply and nice little site overview
I agree that a good forum is run in a manner that keeps the members happy though it should also be as user friendly as possible. There are always people who prefer to avoid change but they will quickly get used to changes if they are for the better.
I'm a forum SuperModerator myself and my advise is that a clear layout helps a lot with finding info, where to post questions and also getting replies for those questions as topics don't get swapmed like they do in one large general section.
As for mods being unloved I would say that depends on how much of a presence they have in the forum, invisible mods are unloved because they are unknown with no personality but if your mods are active forum members they will be known and more respected as well as being someone people can go to if problems arise.
lol, sorry I didn't meant to launch into a forum moderation tutorial there
Hi admin
Could you please do away with the lagacy device forum and just organize the main forum index by device manufacture that will make the forum more cleaner looking and also install cloudflare plugin its free to speed up loading times etc. The lagacy forum is the most pointless thing iv ever saw. That can also impact no new user sign ups because possible new users can't see there handset on the forum index where its meant to be. If admin wants just clone the forums in a different directory and let me at it to speed it up and organize it to make it cleaner
Thanks admin
