[Q] Stock vs Custom Rom ... Performance & Battery

Hey fellas. Coming from an HTC Sensation with InsertCoin Rom, and the thing flew, and battery life was pretty decent....
Really excited to get my hands on the Nexus... just got a question for you guys who have the experience... I would love to enjoy ICS to its full potential.. however... do I need to flash a custom ROM to take advantage of that? Or is it great out of the box, performance & battery wise?
If you are on a custom ROM, which one do you recommend?
Thanks so much.

I've been enjoying it out of the box. Everything seems very smooth and quick. Great setup.
Haven't even rooted the device yet. Will probably in the next few days.
Hope that helps!

[Q] Most stable rom?

Hey guys,
I've really been hesitant to root my GN and flash a custom rom, but I really miss being able to tweak the colors just like I used to do with my Nexus S.
I was decided on not flashing a custom rom on my GN because I want to keep it as stable as possible (bad experiences with my Nexus S).
I'm wondering if any of these custom roms are stable enough that I wouldn't notice a difference between stock and a custom rom.
I'm really happy with stock, but I would love to be able to tweak the colors, and right now I'm really confused as to how I can make the experience better while keeping it as stable as stock is (no random reboots, freezes, crashes).
Any ideas, suggestions?
Thank you.
I've tried a few, some buggy and some not so buggy, but the one that I have had ZERO problems with has been:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400775
Revolution HD
It is VERY close to stock, just cleaned up...and I get great battery life as well.
AOKP Milestone 2 + Franco Kernel
You're on a GSM variant. Shouldn't have to worry about battery life as much since CDMA uses a lot more battery.
If u are going to the trouble of rooting and installing a custom rom. I would recommend u at least go w a 4.0.3 rom.
While I'm sure revolution is a nice and stable rom, its only running 4.0.2. 4.0.3 brings quite a few performance improvements.
I use bigxie's 4.0.3 rom along w Franco's kernel. Nice, stable, and great battery life along w great speed.

[Q] To many options, which rom is best for me?

I want a stable stock-ICS rom with good battery life and fast performance.
When I bought my phone (used) it had ICS (CM9?) on it but it was very buggy. Now that telus has released the official ICS update I'm hoping someone can tell me what the best rom to use would be. I tried out a few different ones before and they were all much faster/smooth then the telus one.
Also I am using the phone with Rogers and I have a problem where caller ID doesn't work properly most of the time. I've read that there are some rom's that fix this but I don't know much about it.
I searched through the forums for a while but I am just in over my head and don't understand the difference between most of the roms I see.
You have to definitely go with DARKSIDE v4. It's what in running and it's the best I've seen so far. It's fast, lag free, and AMAZING battery life. Give it a turn, you won't regret it. You can also use apex if you don't like touchwiz.

go with darkside evo!! its the first ics rom i flashed company coming from bm5

[Q] Switching from Captivate to GNex... Few Questions!

So I've been with my Captivate for two years or so now, with an iPhone 4S in between uses. I must admit, I think I liked my iPhone 4S better simply because of the speed, but otherwise I love Android. Now I'm switching to the GNex and I'm pretty excited.
First, I'd like to ask what kernels you guys have had the best experience with the stock JB update. This includes battery life and speed. Any extra features of the kernel are also a plus. If your favorite has extras that you enjoy, tell me about them!
Also, is it worth buying an extended battery? I'm a moderate to heavy user of my phone, and my Captivate barely does a good job at staying alive for a day when I actually use it.
Anyway, tell me about your experience with the GNex! What phone did you come from? Why do you like it better? What problems have you had? I'd like to hear your stories.
Thanks.
I too came from a captivate. The difference is night and day. With the captivate, i was trying new roms every week and I was never satisfied. But the gnex, everything just works. Ive had the gnex for almost two months and i havnt once felt the need to root or load a rom or kernel. Im on stock JB 4.1.1 and am loving it. The battery destroys the one on the captivate. I can easliy go a day and a half with moderate usage. And im getting about 3.5 mbps down with att her in san diego.

Awesome to hear it! I can totally relate with the trying new ROMs practically every week just to find something I actually liked. I do plan on rooting my GNex, but I'm not entirely sure about flashing a kernel, but I'll have to wait and see. And that's good about the battery, I'm about fed up with my Captivate's failing battery. You're all the way on the other side of the country, so I'm not so sure how those speeds will reflect here, but that's good to know! I'm going to be using the Straight Talk service, but they run on AT&T's bandwidth, so it's all the same.

[Q] Need help with my VZW Galaxy Nexus!

Hey Guys!
I have a VZW Galaxy Nexus rooted and running on CM 10.2 (Have no clue what kernel it's running). The phone is great but i'm having a lot of issues. My battery life is very very bad! I know the phone's battery already is terrible as is but mine is really bad. It's becoming more and more slugglish. I barely have any ram free.
My question is what do ya'll suggest is the best ROM, Kernel, etc for me to have on it. I know its off of preference but what i'm looking for is an increase in performance overall. There is a lot ROMs and Kernels out there but I just don't which ones are the best to use. I've thought of a lot of things but don't know what I should do. Under-volt the CPU? Change the kernel? Run a lighter ROM? Basically what ever it takes to get my phone running like most of the newer phones till my contract is over lol. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks,
Alex
