okay i had a whole bunch of problems with my evo 4g, so i cleaned everything up and restored it back to stock so that i can root and start over again....well in the process i did all the updates required, and i also did the OTA update to 2.3.5 with hboot 2.18, i DID NOT KNOW that we were not supposed to do this until now when i find that i cannot root it..how do i down grade or what do i have to do to root this damn thing now?
Someone show me how to downgrade my 2.3.5 back to froyo using Odin?
Can't downgrade. Only way to semi unlock the bootloader is using HTCdev

Still kind of up in the air as to what's going on. It is locked, without a doubt. I personally believe they will push out an update or a way to unlock it. Like they said they would. I just think they already had it together before it got pushed out.

Ok I have a rooted EVO with the 2.10 hboot. I'm considering trading with my friend who has an EVO with the for now, unrootable 2.16 hboot.....If we were to swap phones, SD cards, numbers, the whole nine.... Would my phone lose root?? Thx in advance!
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
since your swapping for the unrooted Evo with hboot 2.16, then yes....you will lose root. hboot 2.16 is still locked and there is no way to root it as of yet. be patient tho....there will be a rooting method out soon...you just have to give it time

correct...that will keep root...as long as your friend doesnt update with OTA
If youre on an AOSP ROM flash a Sense ROM to provision the phone (don't know about about all AOSP ROMs by Cyanogen wont let you put in ## codes or update profile to program), and flash back to whatever you want afterwards. Just don't accept the update.

So I have already heard that you do not want to do the ota update because it has not been unlocked. I'm not sure which version it is but my phone came with 2.2.3, 4.24.651.1. Which version is safe to attempt root?
Sent from my Supersonic using XDA Premium App
You cannot root if you have 2.3.3 with s-on.
(To check if you have s-on or s-off you go to your bootloader and look next to the radio version)
Being has your preloaded with 2.3.3 you're probably s-on and out of luck.
With all due respect, search button is your friend.
Only 2.2...so you can't root.

Anyone know of a quick easy way to S-OFF the EVO 4G? I was able to root it but somehow it's back to S-ON.
Need more information as in root method, gingerbread or froyo ect

I used Revolutionary to download root. Would that be Gingerbread?
I'm 3 days new to rooting. Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes that's gingerbread. Go to settings applications and make sure fastboot is NOT checked then power off the phone then hold the power button and volume down at the same time and post everything you see

MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab

So you completed the entire revolutionary process but it never gave you s-off but do you have revolutionary on the top of your bootloader?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I did complete the revolutionary process and it was on S-Off when finished but somehow I did something to turn it back on. Will I need to reinstall the program.. is there a quicker way of turning it back off?
BTW, looks like you have your Evo really set up! Any chance you can send me some links to set up mine? I'm running on Cyanogenmod 7 and I'm not completely happy with it.

Hey evo4gnoob, sorry about the delayed response friend. If you could still help me I'd appreciate it.
If I could recall this right, here's what happened: I was able to successfully root my evo4G through Revolutionary. I then tried installing the Cyanogenmod7 rom and ended up with a bootloop problem. I then flashed the Evo4G RUU to return it to manufacture settings. That process fixed the bootloop and installed Cyanogenmod7. I'm pretty sure that was what S-ONed the phone.

That's not going to work without becoming complicated. Unrevoked-forever only works on the radios that came with either Froyo or Eclair (It was patched when Gingerbread was released), which means that the whole operating system would have to be downgraded because the phone is not S-OFF to flash radios. There is no tool to S-OFF Hboot 2.18 directly.
