Hi guys, most of the topics i see in here about battery management are a bit old now.
i was just wondering what everyone thought was the best one or the easiest to use.
i've always used advanced task killer purely because of its 1 click stopping, but i'd bet its by no means the best..
I have best expirients with Juice Defender and this famous apk:

What he said.
Just download watchdog lite
Please look up some articles written by people smarter than me on why android as an OS handles multitasking far better than anything you're used to by googling something like "android task killer waste bad" if you want a well researched explanation that is over your head.
Basically, you don't need it. And if you're using it to only kill some rogue app once in a blue moon (which is the only legitimate reason to use it), you may as well use the built in force close function of Froyo instead of a separate app.
I just get horrible battery life. I'm running:
ROM: VirusROM Airbourne RC3.4
Kernel: 2.6.32.15-netarchy-toast mod-4.1.9.1-cfs with aggressive undervolting
And underclocked as far as you can go.
Getting horrible battery life even on standby just wondering if having a ATK would help out at all I know Android your not supposed to really one but at this point I'm willing to try. I mean I'm a moderate phone user but I figured the battery should last at least a few hours. I can't leave home without a charger.

I'm pretty new here but have been doing alot of research here. I would go into settings, battery and see if your phone has been searching for a signal. Mine is at 0% and i get great battery life but iknow this has been a big drain on the battery if your phone is spending a lot of time searching for a signal .

Try JuiceDefender
You don't need it with an evo, but I did find that 2.1 didn't do a glorious job of freeing up memory with my RAM-less Samsung Moment. In that case, I needed to kill stuff that didn't always come back or as frequently. With the EVO, I've seen no reason so far to have it.
I run ATK, SystemPanel, and occasionally EStrong Task Manager.
Not to kill but because I like to see whats running.
People jump to conclusions the second you mention Task Killer. (*Points up*)
I honestly get better battery life with task killers because an app that's consuming cpu won't get killed by android because i have 260mb free memory, I can kill it manually.
Anyways, Could try tweaking the built in task manager with this:

Folks,
Finally got a ROM I like and after a few months wth the desire I wondered what is Good/Bad in terms of battery life and background apps.
I downloaded SetCPU from the market so I could at least contribute a bit.
I've now found myself with a Battery monitor, Juice Plotter, 3D Watchdog, Juice Defender, APM Droid, News & Weather, Advanced Task Killer (not running in the background) and the usual Android stuff.
Are there any things good or bad generally. I must say that SetCPU seems to deliver fairly well. I guess some of the other stuff is redundant. Also I'm not certain how to measure how these, and other, apps affect the system.
Any general help would be appreciated.

Colin,
Lots of people get hung up on battery performance, I've always found it to be pretty good.
I've found that with normal use I get at least 24 hours, which is heaps as I charge it overnight.
In my experience there are 3 things that use up the battery - the screen, gps and 3g. The other thing I have found is that your radio version can contribute to how much battery you use - I normally go with the latest, however some radios work better in some places and carriers than others - so there's a bit of trial and error involved.
Oh, and get rid of all your battery monitoring apps - they will most likely be using more battery than they save.....
Thanks,
I'm running the latest Radio at the moment, I've not tried any between the old one I had and this one.
I'll get rid of the Battery Monitor as it seems much better now that I've got SetCPU running on it. The SetCPU profiles might not be perfect at the moment but the app certainly helps.
I was annoyed once when the battery got to 15%, the phone piped up Low Battery then the stupid thing just switched off a couple of seconds later, made calling a taxi a pain.

Do I need really need a task killer?
I am using samsung S2 with beast mod, i just want to have more battery life.
base on the following explanation.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6426198
kill the apps doesn't really help for the battery life.
is it true.
No. Google search about task killers.

That link is correct. Infact task killers in some instances can actually have a negative effect on battery life. People who use them or are always concerned with how much free ram they have do not understand how linux, and android memory management works. Its nothing like windows.
thank you.
I am going to uninstall the task killer then.
by the way, what about the juice defender.
I saw some posting saying don't use juice def if i am on a custom ROM, since it will conflict each other, something like that
hi. just a quick question regarding this monitor. is there any real advantage with this over the stock power usage on a stock m8. i dont want to install heaps of apps that i wont use or dont need like i did with my one x. i also dont want to slow my m8 down with unnecessary memory hogging and battery hogging apps if they are not needed.
Than don't use it, the battery lasts as long as it lasts....
And please post questions in the Q&A part next time
fair enough. i was simply asking about app compared to the stock in terms of battery drain or memory drain to run the extra app. no need to be so blunt with the comment.
My battery so far is awesome, granted I only got it yesterday but first impressions very good
I was wondering what HOX owners find is the best combination of apps to get the best out of the stock HOX in terms of speed & battery life?
I'm on 4.2.2, and personally I use the JB battery saver function, juice defender and App Cache Cleaner set to auto clear every 6 mins with the one-tap widget when needed. Not bad but I still get slow downs. Tried greenify but think that's best saved for rooted devices.
