Just don't.
If an app includes a battery-draining service, uninstall the app and look for alternatives.
Android operates like this: no matter what you do to kill a service,
if it's coded in the app to constantly run, it will be restarted every time.

Map, some games, music, updater.. i killed them many times but still they're running.. Those ****ty things make my RAM left 50 =.=
root phone and remove the stock apps. Music will always run until you first end the service.

And now? What will you do with free RAM? Exactly, nothing...Android will free RAM if it needs more...don't worry, it's an intelligent OS...
wanna free more ram, just turn off the phone and turn it back on again
but, last day my phone RAM stable between 100-130, now 40-50 T.T

RAM is not affected by downloads, it has nothing to do with internal storage.

RAM decreases over time.
If you face lags, just reboot.
If not, don't bother.

This problem occurred on CM10 and PA 2.99, the only two roms I've tried. I'm running hellboy's latest kernel. I am overclocked to 1400 mhz. zram is set to default.
When the phone starts, I have about 100 mb memory free and it runs great. I have removed all widgets from my home screen except Poweramp's remote.
However, after a few hours of use, the phone will run out of memory. I understand that is how android is supposed to work: all the memory is intended to be utilized. Unfortunately, when this happens on my phone, my music will turn off, programs will close, and apps behave so slowly that android will keep asking me if I want to force close them. When I look at my app manager of running apps I can see that I have no memory free and different apps are being restarted, usually 2-3 at a time. However, once they are restarted then several different apps start restarting themselves. The result is that the phone takes 5-10 seconds to switch to any action, and I also believe the battery is drained very quickly by this behavior as well. This does not stop until I restart the phone.
Is this happened for everyone else on the HTC one V and they just don't mention it, or am I the only one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Disable them! You could simply tap on them once press the 'Disable' button.. When I was on my Stock ROM.. unrooted.. I disabled many apps which made a big difference
if u overclock u will have battery loss, and and keeping apps widgets causes the app to run in the background removing the widget may speeden up, i face kind of ur same problem, but the ROM is in the beta stage so, i cant complain much, and android is intented to reboot atleast once very day, to clear the dns and other caches

Yes, but this happens after only 8-12 hours of use.
Facebook?
Whatsapp?
You have a memory hog somewhere.. Mine is working perfectly fine and I believe everyone's One V is working as mine... so it is not a rom/kernel problem. It can be a hardware problem OR an app that hogs your memory.

Maps drain battery like ****, even if u don't know all phones reboot , even they are unresponsive , the only v thing u can try is just wipe everything and start clean, that may not work but worth a try

Since everyone uses Facebook and Whatsapp, I don't think that's the problem. What do you use you listen to music? It might be Poweramp which is becoming a hog at 30-40mb while using it.

Hmm... I remember my phone getting smooth after disabling Maps... And WhatsApp is taking 40MB?? :what: mine takes just 12...! make a chat history backup, uninstall and then reinstall WhatsApp. Then check the amount of RAM it takes... And why you using Messenger when you already have Facebook? Jeez.. I chat using my Facebook app very easily... Don't use other apps for chatting.. Messenger is taking away 28MB! And yes! The keyboard! What so you do with it? Mine takes just 15MB when I use it!!

Because I frequently need to type in Chinese, a language not available on PA, I installed multiling keyboard. It is actually the lowest memory consuming keyboard of all the ones I tried. I will uninstall messenger as you suggested and also reinstall whatsapp, thanks.
edit: seems that gokeyboard has a lower memory footprint at 18 mb. Anyway, for the time being it seems that I've got around 100mb free, which is good!

Well, the problem persists :/
While listening to music, poweramp shuts off due to lack of memory and it takes 20 seconds to switch apps. This is on a clean wipe install.
Running processes are currently only:
settings - 28 mb
maps, 7.2
maps, 8.7
whatsapp 8.7
facebook 25
google services 8.6
keyboard 17
Cached:
trebuchet
poweramp
yet I have no free memory and the phone is a sloth.
I notice when the phone is first started up for the first few minutes, there are 10+ cached processes and numerous running processes- yet the system overall still has 100 mb free and it runs like lightning.
How long does your OG Pro go before it starts to feel laggy and unresponsive to make you need to reboot the phone?
With the use of the Task Manager Widget, Which lets you optimize the RAM and then keeping the Recent Apps empty , I'm going to have to say.. Never.
BUT, As a rule of thumb, I will Restart the phone after I have installed an App and have all the start up "work" for that App accomplished.
I don't ever feel the need to reboot..I don't run any task managers or anything.
I restart almost twice a day. It's a bad habit from my iPhone days of 2 years ago. I've done it with every android phone I own and it has become an OCD thing now. Trying to quit but it's hard.

I disabled all of the bloatware, as well as many of the Google stuff I do not use, and it made a world of difference in the overall performance of my device. Combine this with the task manager set to reclaim memory every 12 hours and I am good to go. My original lag issues are now gone.
I never reboot my device except when applying some sort of mod. It's never ever laggy.
I've also read that the Android development community strongly recommends not using any kind of task managing app. This is not Windows. Android is smart about managing it's memory on it's own.

LG provides a task manager widget that refreshes the memory. I wonder what issues that causes, if any.
I use it and I dig it.
Task Manager Widget, Then click the Circle Arrow and my RAM goes up.
My old HTC Vivid would go an 8 hour shift and need a charge, BAD! This OGP was at 80% battery with the same usage.

I have only needed to reboot the phone when my iPad wont recognize the hotspot feature. Other than that i don't get lag or need to reboot. i do however CLEAR RAM if it drops below 800MB free. Just to stop running apps from draining my battery.

dont think i've ever restarted it for being laggy. only when i try a new mod or occasionally after installing an app
341 hours ago.
I think the wifi was acting up so I rebooted two weeks ago.
I use the built in one. You can set the time frame for it to clear the ram for optimal performance. I have it set for every hour. No lag what so ever since I got this phone.
Looking for a App that does as above without taking up much memory in the background whilst doing so. I trialed Smart Booster app and it allowed me too disable auto start for apps I don't need and hibernate others etc but sorta felt like the app itself drain my battery just as much as the apps that were auto starting. Thanks in advance
It's not free, $1.49. But it's worked for me in the past. Personally don't think it will be very useful on this device.

Why do you want free RAM? Free RAM is wasted RAM. Android doesn't need you to constantly clear the RAM. It's actually bad to do that because you need to use more CPU power to recompile the whole app when you open it again until we fully switch to ART which pre-compiles all apps.
Also Android by design will dynamically close apps to make room if it needs more RAM than you have available. Plus not clearing it will safe battery because the CPU will run less cycles when you use apps.
That's just my opinion, however I'm sure you have a reason as to why you wan to clear the RAM. I just thought it was with mentioning the above in case you didn't know.

Reason = Battery Drain. I don't use the Radio, EVER. So why is it showing in android os in the battery settings? Just like quite a few other processes sitting in that long ass list. That's why I ask.

There's a free version if the app that allows you to freeze apps still, but it won't let you do batch operations if I remember correctly.
Do Anyone have issue with app closing too quickly in background even less than a minute??
I am noticing it for past few days. When i switch chrome with any other app and come back within a minute then chrome page reload itself. This was not the case with my previous device Moto X2.
Also faced issue with mini militia app when switched to whatsapp for few seconds, the app restarted when came back.
Any help will be grateful.
Yes, this phone has very aggressive memory management. It kills background tasks too quickly.
Looking under memory settings, I have used 85 apps in the last 24 hours and the maximum amount on RAM this phone has used is 1.6 GB...seems the RAM usage never hits more than 2 GB as the phone keeps killing apps.

Yup, more power consumption plus the fact that loading apps fresh each time provides worse user experience (slower operation).
There is absolutely no reason to clear RAM on powerful modern devices. Even I - the person that always kept clearing recents and even using memory cleaners on older devices - got used to keeping everything in RAM. And I'm happier than ever

Yes, but it depends on how frequently you are opening and closing apps. If you don't use an app all that often, there is no harm in clearing it.

It seems the "clear ram" feature actually hibernates apps. i.e it does a "Force Stop" in the Android app settings. This is behavior I want to preserve battery, particularly for apps I don't use all that often.

FB and similar apps are a perfect example of why it's a terrible idea to clear RAM - ever try force closing it? It always re launches itself without fail, even with root and apps like Greenify
Well, if you don't want to to kill apps often, you don't need a shortcut. It's just 2 taps away anyways (recents > kill).
Natively you can't get a shortcut. Maybe could be done with Tasker or something similar, but I'm not sure.
After all apps in RAM don't really consume power so you won't see any benefits if you do force stop stuff that you don't use often. The difference is negligible, there are a lot more factors that make much bigger difference.
