Sound quality play back problems - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi recently upgraded to a Nexus and am having problems with the sound quality.
I have downloaded several wmv to mp3 software programs and have also tried to copy them at different qualities and it makes no difference..
These are genuine CD's that I own not copys or songs or albums that been downloads
Its not the head phones that are a problem all 3 of my sets have been tried and work fine on my Galaxy S1 & my PC
How is the sound supplied on the Nexus is it software or hardware and software like a sound card in a pc?
Can any one help me please?
Regards Lee F

Anyone please I really want to keep this phone but without a decent sound its go to go back

I can't believe there are so many clever people on here and not one reply..
"O well the phone is going back to Vodafone now!"

You didn't even describe the sound problems you're having...
Click the link in my sig to see if that is the problem you're having.

Thanks for getting back to me...
The problem is that any music I convert to MP3 no matter how or what program I use the to convert the music comes out either like its underwater or if it is understanderable you hear the music but its sounds very dull mono tone like! also you can only vaguely hear the singing......No clarity at all.....I can best describe it as it sound like you are at the back of a giant concert on the back row.....
Regards Lee F

You might consider grabbing "Volume+" from the market. It has volume boost as well as a EQ that will work globally in that it will shape the sound regardless of music player. For my money I would just plunk down the cash and purchase "PowerAmp" It's one of the best music players for Android and contains a excellent EQ.

I bought the pro version of winamp with the same thoughts no difference...
I am beggining to think its something related to copying from the CD to my music file....it keeps coming up as a VLC file could it be associating them with video sound of less quality...?
Or what about that I am using a 32bit application in a 64 bit enviroment?

Any chance of a reply please?

Do the MP3's sound fine on your computer? If they don't I suggest ripping the CD's with EAC and then converting them with a LAME encoder.
If they do: Try out DSPManager and make sure the headphones are plugged in all the way.
My Galaxy Nexus doesn't have any playback issues (other than the loudspeaker's output not being very loud) so it's not the sound chip.

They sound fine on my pc and I have converted them using different software and nothing seems to work.....I will try EAC and let you know thanks for taking the time to respond to my post..

Try downloading the same song just one file by normal mp3 format see if that works well.

Downloaded EAC and it was easy to use and the music no longer sounds remote but the quality is not very good....
Perhaps I have not got it configured incorrectly do you think you could write a a few instructions on how you set yours up for the best results......
I did try to copy the mp3 files to my nexus direct from EAC but it did not reconise my phone...

Here's a guide to set up EAC: http://blowfish.be/eac/Setup/setup1.html
You can substitute .flac with .mp3 and type 320 in to the kbps box or follow the guide completely and then convert it to .mp3 with something like WinLAME.
If the files play fine on your PC with the same headphones I'm not sure how much this will help. It's worth a shot if you saw some improvement before though.

no MP3 ringtones sound

I downloaded some ringtones as mp3 or mp4 but no sound when selected as ringtones. It works if I select it to play in windows media player.
I have 3VO series rom on WM6.5.
check your settings, and make sure you have the ringer on loud and your system all the way up on the slide. hopefully this works.
i was using ringtones downloaded from myxer and they were in mp3d format and would never work. so now i just cut my own songs and make my own shortened mp3's and they work fine everytime.
check the file format on your computer and see what they are.
ignore what i said earlier it is invalid. my problem stemmed from the newest 3vo rom. dont know how to work it out.

Are the files you are trying to use high-quality, or better quality? If so, then try to use ones of lesser quality, since you don't need a HQ sound coming from your cell phone on RING...chances are that loading up that sound (if it is of a higher quality) takes up a decent amount of processing power/RAM, that at one point it just can't process the ring anymore.
I am using the 3vo 2.5 as well...if you want to send me the file, i can see if i figure out what the problem is...(you can email me it, just click my name and send me an email)

Desire Music Playback

Hi there,
I'm new to these forums and am really interesting in the HTC Desire. Being a user of Sony Walkman phones for the last 4 years music playback is a huge part of my phone usage.
I'm wondering as a device without an equaliser how does this rate compared to other phones for music playback? Is it possible to download third party music playback software?
Otherwise this phone looks perfect, possibly too good to be true at £15 a month on t-mobile!
Hi, check the GSMarena review - sound quality is top notch! (so why would you want to ruin good sound fidelity with an EQ?).
Problems with non-unicode tagging leads to things being seen as "Unknown Genre" by the music player, which is a significant bummer for some (like me).
Theres plenty of third party software, some with EQs.
same boat here.. i have been a Sony walkman user for the last 10 years and sound quality was/is top of my agenda..
the Desire is pretty good i'd have to say.. ok doesnt sound as good as my Sony X series walkman but its unlikely to as thats a dedicated audio/video device.. the nice thing about android is that there's a choice of apps you can use for music playback.. the stock one is fine but a bit boring.. i downloaded 'cubed' last night and its got a pretty neat interface..
i would like an equaliser to be able to add treble/bass etc.. and i've seen it in some players.. but the interfaces are a bit iffy at the moment.. hopefully in time someone will create an all singing all dancing music player..
oh and just keep an eye on the the low volume threads here.. some people have gotten phones that the volume is very low on but mine (unlocked unbranded from carphone warehouse) is plenty loud..
Cheers,
Mick

Cheers for the feedback I'm glad the audio is pretty decent! The idea of using a standard headphone jack is a nice change to the SE phones.
Another question is can you change song without having to whap it out? It may sound strange but when I'm walking to say University, I can currently just hit the rocker switch on the side of the phone to change track - is that the case with the Desire?
Or do I have to bring it out, unlock it, and then change track, relock it, then tidy it away? Hope not!

If you use the bundled HTC headphones, then no. They come with media controls on the wire.
But if you use your own headphones, then yes. You'll have to take the device out, press the standby button to wake the device and skip to the track you want. You don't have to unlock and jump into the music application. There are music controls at the lock screen for back, play/pause, and forward.
Ah of course I forgot about those headphones. Thanks!
Now I just have to wait until January

Haha, January?! Why the wait? Surely by that time, there would be something else available that's more desirable...
You can control tracks/play/pause from the lockscreen.
I have a question to users of the Desire: when you put videos on the device and upload them to the memory card, can you arrange them into a playlist on the device itself to be able to play a series of music videos, without having to select each one, and also to be able to skip tracks, fast forward and shuffle???
Can the built-in music player play a video playlist?
If not, can the video player play a playlist with videos separately from music (and even just play the audio file if the screen is shut off)?
If not still, is there any application - video player - on Android Market that supports video playlists and shuffle, skip and fast forward?
I would not dream of being able to change the playback speed tho, just to be able to play vids right. I'd appreciate any your insights
Meridian is a great music/video player!

the speaker isnt so good, though
I'm finding the music via earphones to be a little low. Are there any players with EQ so I could boost it up a bit?
I know people on UK T-Mobile ROM's had an issue with low music volume but I don't think that's the same issue with mine as i'm using the generic ROM.

Music Player App

What do most of you guys use in your vehicles for audio player from EVO phone? Ive tested winamp, poweramp, & currently the music player from CM7 stock. BTW what music player is used in the latest CM7 mod, when I had destroyer v2 it wasnt used there? I really like how it sets up all your folders & you can go thru each one. Poweramp has an EQ which people rant n rave about but it seems like the EQ gives an exaggerated sound when used in a vehicle with speakers...Opinions?
i'm using miui music player. you need to manually sign the apk and everythign to get it to install, but it's worth it. i can shoot you a copy if you want. i love the lyrics support and automatic album cover downloads, the app is just plain awesome.
Do you have any pix or videos of it in action? Dont care for the album art really jus that I can go into seperate folders with music.
here's the app itself. signed, so just install from adb or through a file browser.

I haven't found a music app yet that can compete with an iPod's. Sadly, I hate everything Steve Jobs' name is attached to but their music app far surpasses ours. If I find/make one you can bet your ass I'll be posting it here lol.
For now, I use MIUI (what dkdude uses) when I have music on my phone and otherwise I just use my Zune HD.
+1 Sucks, but true.
PowerAmp
I use Power Amp. It is my favorite!
It's available on the market.
If you like the CM music app, try "Music Mod". It's free in the market, and also the app CM chose for their roms.
EDIT: I'm currently using the MIUI music app as well because I'm on MIUI... plus it's really good. In the past I've used Player Pro, it's really nice. They've recently added an equalizer, which isn't a big deal to me, but is for some. Mixzing is another decent one.
I use the stock Sense music player. Works just fine.
I use poweramp, it was actually the second app I paid for (first was metamorph). I just make sure to turn on the large lockscreen widget.
I have it piped in through the AUX port on my head unit. As far as the EQ and sound and all that, I just set up custom EQ settings (on the head unit itself) for my AUX input mode and everything sounds great.
I especially love how it starts playing automatically when I plug in the headphone jack, and stops playing automatically when I take it off.
the newest MIUI music is really great. Not sure if dkdude has a working versions of it though. Settings always causes a force close. i dont care much for the apple music. Took all my music off my ipad, which is a paperweight anyway
Dont you guys who use poweramp find the EQ sound to be exaggerated? Everytime Ive used it in my car and put on the EQ the SQ doesnt sound natural it sounds exaggerated & not right...Also if I were to get mp3s with 320kb would it sound as good as using an original CD or thats just not possible?
I'm a big fan of Cubed. I've used just about every free music player in the market, and IMO, nothing comes close.
ive used poweramp, cube, doubletwist, stock sense, stock gingerbread, but now i switched over to using MixZing, its my fav so far, its free, has an equilizer, automatically downloads album art and updates the tags, give u a folder search. its good stuff!!
I totally feel you on PowerAmp. IMO it does exaggerage the range by the EQ; in most cases I just turned it off. I did dig the interface for a bit but it was hard to use one-handed for me. Also, it was a bit unintuitive.
I'm using the stock player in CM7/Gingerbread and I'm perfectly happy with it. Simplicity trumps most things for me. When I run Sense, I just use the Sense player.

I don't bother with the EQ in PowerAmp, but I've always felt it was kinda annoying to mess with software EQs, especially on a touchscreen. I just adjust settings as needed on the head unit itself, and that works great.
As to your second question, that's something that's been debated in audiophile circles for a long time. With a car stereo, you might notice a slight improvement with FLAC/CD over mp3, but it will be only in the highest of the high frequencies and honestly you'd have to be actively paying attention. And that's assuming that your audio equipment is even of a high enough fidelity in the first place. Road noise while driving won't be doing you any favours either.
In short: don't worry about it, 320kbps mp3 is more than fine and will sound just like the CD for all intents and purposes.

[Q] Music player with 5.1 ch sound?

I love the stock music player that came with my galaxy s because of it's ability to play music in 5.1 ch.
However, I have now flashed the latest MIUI to my sgs but the music player is not able to play music in 5.1 ch, so I was wondering if anyone of you guys know an app that can do this?
Thanks
5.1ch is just a sound effect. You can get it on any player app with basic tweaks to the equalizer settings.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Ah, I see. Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this with an eq?
Sent from my Computer using My Keyboard
With 5.1ch people usually mean that instead of stereo (which is 2 channels, left + right) you have 4 additional channels (Center + Back left + Back Right + LFE or Bass (.1))
Your phone only has one speaker so I'm not sure how you want to achieve this.
The audio output is only capable of sending out stereo as well.
A source file with multi-channel audio is usually in *.vob format (DVD video format) but I know of no player that will show this on Android (except for the Archos Gen8 stock video player).
Audio only files would typically be in *.wav or *.ac3 format but same here, I know of no player that will play these multi-channel streams.
Perhaps I misunderstood your question?

The stock galaxy s music player was able to simulate 5.1 ch (when headphones were plugged in) which provided a very nice boost in sound quality. What I'm looking for is either a port of that music player to MIUI or another music player that is able to do the same thing (or some eq settings that does it would also be fine).

That option is a load of bull XD.When you listen you only have 2 speakers assuming you are using earplugs which makes 2.0 the highest you can achieve. You shouldn't bother about it... just a stupid tweak that imho makes the sound sound worse...
your comment is a load of bull.. no offence here. But the guy is asking for something dont tell him if its bad or not. He likes it other people like it some dont like it you find it bull. But he doesnt comment you on that does he?

And yes i find the sound nice to. And like other people said there are ways to get this trough EQ settings but so far i havnt got it the same as the stock player one

All I was saying that the option is stupid and it's fake it doesnt provide 5.1ch surround sound and I thought he was thinking that and I was helping his out of his dream (read his 3rd post... this is the case here..). If this is the case my comment is valuable if this isn't well.. he'll just do nothing with the information... It's a win anyway, he has nothing to lose, playing around with a EQ is way better ;/. Install voodoo sound tbh if you want a good musical experience...

The 5.1ch option was not stupid, even though it was fake. It made the sound much clearer and better on all headphones I used.
Will look into voodoo sound, thanks for the tip.
I had 5.1 available when I was using a gingerbread version I got from here. Now I can't seem to find one Pretty sure it was Calkulon or something along those lines. It was way better sound (with headphones) in my opinion, so I'm trying to find a current version that will deliver that "fake" surround
Epic touch 4g sprint running 4.1.2
On a side note, I got Jellybean using a vid a watched from QBking77 on youtube, and he references you guys alot.
There are some bugs with Jelly Bean... For instance my mic cuts out when I hold the phone to my face and the screen goes off. Bluetooth headset... NOT A CHANCE lol. On speakerphone i can talk just fine. Headset, works great too. Sometimes I have to pull the battery because the screen dims. But for the most part, it works great.

Best music player with flac support

Hi,
I was using Winamp but it doesn't have FLAC support. I've tried downloading LePlayer and Meridian, which both claim to have FLAC support, but it doesn't find any of the FLAC files in my sdcard. I can open FLAC files in ES File Explorer and choose Meridian and it'll play, but I'd like something that detects them automatically.
Thanks.
CM7 has FLAC support
I'm using Virtuous Sense, not CM7.
I started using the beta of GoneMad Media Player. It seems to be pretty good, and have some great features, .flac support as well.
Thanks. Does it discover flac files automatically?
goister: I have a burning question for you.
Obviously if you care enough to listen to .flac files you must be an audiophile of some sort. And the thing that bothered me is that my 5 year old Samsung YP-P2 MP3 player with DNSE 2.0 sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than any of the new phones, even with their Beat Mod crap.
I was thinking, is there any app or anything you can do to the phone that will make it produce quality playback?
Sorry, can't help you there. I suppose a headphone amp would help, but I'm not an audiophile anymore. I used to be (hence the flac files) but now I just enjoy the music as much as I can on my phone and a Sennheiser C300.
I don't think there's much you can do though, as phones are made with very tight tolerances in size and integration, so usually corners are cut in audio performance since most people can't tell the difference.
ATM, I am downloading Neutron Music Player. From the description, it seems to be good. Will test and let you know.
=O
It's pretty good!
If you don't wanna buy it, just pm me =P
EDIT: Still not as good as my Samsung player, but better than all the other's i tried.
Edit 2: I failed to press menu. Once I did, they had soooooo much options to fiddle with. I ended up tweaking the settings for like half an hour and got my phone on par with my mp3 player!
Super good! Highly recommend!
Does Neutron automatically discover flac and other non mp3 audio files?
no clue, but on their main site it lists like 30 different formats lol.
And Flac was one of em.
How about Andless?
