how to make a nandroid backup?

I've tried to search but cant find a guide how to make a backup of my phone... if someone can explain or post me a link, i will be a happy man

Root phone.
Power off.
Hold volume down and power the phone on, and enter recovery mode.
Get into recovery menu (recoverywhatever.sh on *NIX or recovery-windows.bat)
Scroll to backup/restore in recovery menu.
Select backup NAND only - backing up EXT causes errors right now.
Find saved nandroid on your SD card.
Back up your apps separately using Titanium Backup or MyBackup Pro. Restore by wiping the phone, restoring the NAND, and restoring the apps via one of the above apps.

You need root for nandroid. Then it's done in recovery.

its rooted, but when i go into the recovery menu, the phone just shows a picture with a red triangle, is that correct?

No. Get back into the green recovery menu by running recovery-windows.bat or whatever method you used in step 2 of the rooting process to flash the rooted zip file.

one more thing, the titanium backup said i need busybox, how do i install that?... Found out myself

Did you get this problem solved as I have the same problem. I re rooted my desire and the same thing happened. The only time i can go to recovery is when I use recovery-windows.bat from the r5 tools. Any help?

i just use rom manager. choose backup in there, phone reboots itself, backs itself up and done.
used the recovery options a few times when moving from rom to rom.

ClockworkMod Recovery tool
ClockworkMod Recovery tool is really handy. Does everything itself in few clicks. I used Rom manager to backup with no problems without any previous experience.

installed rom manager and when choosed backup curret rom it asked for desired name then tap ok and reboots, now its freeze into htc slash screen

I have one question.
If i make a nandroid backup, does it make a FULL nand backup or just certain parts of nand ?
If i for example make a backup of my leedroid rom with all my apps and settings
make wipe and then try a gingerbread rom, will restoring nandbackup actually restore the prevision rom with all the settings and apps ?

It will restore the entire rom to the exact state as the time before the nandroid. So yes all settings and apps will be there.

Also will a new OTA just remove root if or when another OTA comes out... ?

No there is not a real point in rooting for the ability to back up. And despite what some say, never apply OTA updates on rooted devices! But custom versions will come out at the same time as the OTA so you don't miss out on anything.

What's an OTA update?

Just install rom manager then click on back up . Boom you have a nandroid back up.

Ota update is
Over the air update so its basically stock updates from phone manufactures

Nandroid restore question

Hi,
My first post.
I recently rooted using unrEVOked 3, did a Nandroid backup right after.
I would like to unlock NAND, but want to go back to my Nandroid backup after I unlock NAND.
After unlocking NAND can I run a Nandroid restore and just use my original Nandroid backup that was rooted?

Yes you can BUT if you aren't currently using a rooted stock rom this is going to cause issues and the root wont have that much of an effect as you wont have superuser "app" to allow you to grant su permission.
What i suggest is downloading titanium back up and having it back up all your apps + data. it is free int he market for a basic version (the paid version is EXTREMELY worth it as it allows for auto install of apps without having to click the install and ok buttons along with a few other very nice features) once yuo have all your apps and data backed up do the full nand. Then either flash the stock rooted rom or a custom rom of your choice (lots of great choices out there we have amazing devs working with evo) and then re download titanium back up and have it install apps.
this should give you everything back how it was except you may have to reput out your widgets. Once you have everything back to where you want it (widgets all apps ok etc) on the rom you choose i would go ahead and make a new nand so that you have a fall back in the future.

Unrevoked 3 would have rooted the phone so there won't be any problem with performing a full root (I recommend simpleroot) and installing the NAND

but unrevoked doesnt install a rooted rom does it? with out a rooted rom, the market for example wont work along with a few other things. So if he is on THE stock rom and nandroids back while it will in fact work ... it will have issues functioning fully. until he upgrades to a rooted rom whether it be a stock rooted or a custom rom.
this is all not an issue obviously if he already has a rooted rom (ie stock rooted or custom) that he has flashed to the phone. then no issues nandroid away.

About to flash custom ROM but need to backup??

I need an app to backup my user data, apps and setting. A friend told me to use titanium backup but is there any other apps out there for beginners like me or is there a way of backing up the entire ROM in case anything goes wrong with my new custom ROM???

If your using Clockword mod recovery, then u can download rom manager and make a full back up of your current rom.
I'm assuming you already have root?

I am using 4EXT recovery I am just testing out the backup and restore at the moment to make sure it works but thanks for your advice, will try that if this method doesn't work

4EXT is highly thought of around here, I like using CWM as it's so easy to restore backups straight through rom manager.

[Q] Make an original state backup

Hello there, I have a HTC Wildfire S I bought last week, I've already unlocked the bootloader, installed the CWM recovery and rooted the phone but I wanted to try new roms but at the same time I do not want to reinstall all my apps from my stock rom so I wanted to know a way of making a backup of the actual rom while keeping the installed apps so I wouldn't have to reinstall them, like going back time.
Yes I've made a backup of the stock rom after I rooted it and yes it is on some place safe.

Use Titanium Backup app to backup all the apps and their data and keep the TitaniumBackup folder from SD card in a safe place and after installing a new ROM, transfer the TitaniumBackup folder into the root of your SD card, install Titanium backup app and then restore apps.

Cwm backups all data in their current state, including applications.
If you're talking about bringing your already installed apps to another Rom,I wouldn't recommend doing it.

I just flashed the stock ROM for Android Gingerbread 2.3.4, and I've been trying to root it. The DooMLoRD method doesn't work. Are there any other ways for me to root?

Cool man... Glad to hear you got it rooted. After you get the phone setup how you like it (including Superuser/SuperSU and busybox already installed ), then make a Nandroid backup in CWM. Keep a copy of that backup somewhere safe (like on your external sd card and an additional one on your computer), then you can always restore that Nandroid backup after wiping cache, wiping dalvik, and doing a factory reset in CWM. (Also.... If you mess the phone up really bad when tinkering with it, you can always use Androxyde's Flashtool to restore the phone to Stock.... then root it again /reinstall CWM, and restore that Nandroid backup. I can't tell you how many times I've had to do that when experimenting with different things on the phone).
I don't know of any other way to restore with a Superuser app and busybox already installed.... (other than to flash a ROM/Kernel that already includes these... but you will have to unlock your bootloader-- if not done already-- in order to flash custom kernels).
PS: check out Titanium Backup Pro from the Play Store if you're not familiar with it already... as it's a useful tool to let you backup individual apps and individual app data.

No. You have to install the Clockwork Mod Recovery separately.

Another way to install CWM Recovery is to use the Xparts app, (also called the CWM Auto Installer)... but you have to use an older version (v.5) for the R800x. If you'd rather use the Xparts app, then go to this thread:

Scroll to the bottom of the first post to find several versions of the app. Download and install ("CWM Installer-v5.apk").... then use the app to install CWM. I've not used this method, but others report that it works.
