I like it especially with with the ics roms I miss the battery % from cymod its not that noticeable but its noticeable enough...does that make sense???

Talking like the number in the battery symbol??
Yes i miss the battery display with number percentage and the small vertical battery bar right next to it. Its a little tough to accurately tell how much juice is left for me so I'm really enjoying this app. I mean its not THAT difficult to hit settings>battery but still

Hello
So recently Ive been wondering if its worth to install the Gingerbread over the 2.2 Defrost mod, I cant say im unhappy with it, cuz its awesome but just bored recently and maybe gingerbread runs even smoother and battery is better and has some more functions?
thinking about oxygen rom or villain rom
what do you guys think? also will all the apps work on the gingerbread? cuz heard something like launcher pro doesnt work on gingerbread?
thanks
I am using LauncherPro to write this, all apps work fine. Nandroid and try it out if you don't like it restore Froyo, not that there is anything to dislike.
Launcher Pro works great on Redux too.
I agree with @Kalavere - many of the Gingerbread ROMs are reliable enough for everyday use - give a couple a run and see whether you like it or not. You probably won't go back.
thanks guys for the info, could you just tell me of some visible advantages over froyo? well apart from the different graphics, like any new features etc etc?
just looked at some reviews and dont really see a point of upgrading to gingerbread unless theres some improvements on smoothness, and battery life?

Just flash and see, there are screen on and off visualizations, better battery graph logging, new RAM, internal and external memory graphs. And a few other features and bits and bobs.
Using Oxygen for some time now.... Try Gingerbread.... NEVER GO BACK!
Try it > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829734
On oxygen v2 rc5 battery lasted longer than now on latest miui (froyo). It wasn't pronounced that much on full load, but with screen turned off, i could get to first night with 80%. On miui, at best, 40-50%.
All the options were the same, and same apps were installed.
I went back to miui because on every other Tom i missed something.
On oxygen v2 rc5 3d didn't work, but that wasn't such a deal breaker for me.

That's really bad battery life no offence. Try a different kernel and radio. In 6 hours idle I go down to 90-95%
I'm running sms by rsk ROM, which is nice and stable, has the brilliant amaze cam (I like the panorama mode) and sticks everything on my 16gb sd card, so I don't worry about app storage.
Only problem I have, and it's a biggie, is battery life. I carry 2 spare batteries with me to see me through a day, lots of facebook, a bit of kindle, occasional angry birds..
So, what am I doing wrong? Should I change to a different rom, or a setting somewhere?
Thanks
Battery life is normally 1 day..depends how much is your device old

Thanks.
A bit more reading done and I flashed the ManU kernel, which not only killed wifi, but also added some interesting green stripes to the status bar (i did flash the gingerbread version), so I guess I got something wrong there
Going (back to?) the droidzone #18, wifi back working.
Now using Rom Toolbox to set cpu to Ondemand (was on performance) so I'm guessing that's going to make a big difference

Going for another install of the ROM, this time adding the rosie options which I think allows me a little more power tweaking...kinda embarrassing having friends with iphones have their phone last all day, while I change batteries after a few hours
Hey Guys!
I have a Galaxy Nexus running Stock Jelly Bean JRO03C. Not Rooted, not Unlocked.
So now I want to install a custom Rom and Kernel to get more out of my phone. I came from moto Defy and saw the possibilities of Custom Roms.
My Questions are now, which of the many Custom Roms?!
I want a stable one, where everything is working and I want the battery life like in Stock JB+Stock Kernel or even better, if possible.
My Phone has to be smooth like stock JB.
Is it even necessary to flash a custom Kernel? (I don't really know, what it does )
So can you guys recommend me any good, smooth and stable custom roms? (Only thing I really would appreciate are power toggles in Notification bar like in Cyanogenmod)
could you please post a link to rom and kernel?
Kind regards!
CM10 + Franco/Trinity
The tons of locked ROM/kernel posts didn't give you a clue not to post this?
Every phone reacts differently to ROMs/kernels. Every person uses their phone slightly differently, which gives different results depending on ROM/kernel. The only proper answer is "try them yourself and see which works best".
Also, think of the pandas!

awh yeah, i'm sorry for asking. Thought I'd get help here.
You really want stable rom? Stock. No doubt about it. You only flash custom ROM if your want more customization. Battery life can't be better than stock unless you underclock or undervolt.
Also there is no best ROM and kernel. It's what you like the best and the one that suits you the most. Please keep that in your mind.
If you only want custom ROM for notification toggles, seriously check out apps like power toggles. Works and works well
It isn't necessarily to flash custom kernel, but it'll give you ability to overclock and stuff. That's what it's all about

There are only three things I miss in Stock, coming from Cyanogenmod 10-Defy. The T9-Dialer, the toggles in Notification bar und the Battery Symbol in percent.
The apps for the toggles and battery percent annoy me, because they use the top left space of notification bar and don't fit to the design of JB in my opinion

If you're coming from cm. Just use cm. It'll probably be best for you.
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
OP, please read up and try them. Opinions will vary, as well as how they perform on your particular device. Thank you for understanding.
whats the best kernel for battery saving BTW i'm using viper 2.7.1

Not much in it tbh, undervolting can help but i haven't seen much improved in the way of battery.
I would stay on stock or try faux for overclocking and undervolt i here good things about franco.

that is the problem with us xda folk, doesn't matter how good something is we will make it better, faster and better , just get a non overclocking kernel if you're worried and don't tick any "apply on boot" till you know things are stable.

ncx-217 V7.5 Is my favorite kernel, it has improved my battery life by almost 10% Right now im running IceColdJelly and nxc-217. I highly recommend this kernel!
Hi!
I'm running the Domination (build 6) and the faux-007m, and it's great! Super smooth and a lot of juice. Charging every other night :good: good enough for me, then... Good luck finding your super combo
@schmuts
Have you tried faux? In that case, what made you go with ncx? (I know they're both nice )
@bjornops Yes, i used faux-007 when i used to use the CM10 Domination. But when i switched to IceColdJelly AOKP ncx-217 it is also made for IceColdJelly.
thanks all
im on 010m
If battery life is what you're after, go for the ncx 0.99 (older version). This is the non-2.17 kernel base.
I'm now using the CM10 Nightlies rom with ncx-217_v7.6 AOSP karnel
and it seems the best combo for battery life.
I undervolted a lot (-100mv) and working on 1GHZ speeds and able to get 4-4.5 hours
of screen time. (with wifi use) The best for me so far ...
Are you getting better results with viper?
I'm getting nearly 5 hours of on screen time with the stock kernel and OrDroid ROM.

How are you using your device to get those 5 hours?
Mostly wifi/3g/2g?
Push? Auto sync?
Downclock?
Do you mainly surf/play games/video?
What screen brightness most of the time?

I have 3G and Wi-Fi always on. (No turning off wi-fi when phone sleeps)
I have Facebook, Mail, Gmail, Twitter all syncing and push notifications on.
Stock kernel, so no speed tweaks.
I don't play action games. Mostly Words with friends, Draw Something, Seige Hero, Solitaire, Fruit Ninja. That's basicall all the games I play. Most of the time I am on Tapatalk, Facebook, Instagram, RSS Readers and news services.
60% screen brightness
WOW! that's fantastic battery life!!
I could never get such numbers on the stock rom.
(And I'm a VERY economic user)
Is that orDroidX that different then original sense ?

It's a Sense based ROM, but has some of the 'project butter' stuff from Jellybean. You can also install it with the De-Sense option that uses Nova or Apex as the launcher.

Any1 else want to comment about his battery life in his rom-karnel ?
Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone has had chance to install CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM and if it's good? I'd imagine it to be quite buggy at the moment due to the fact that it's only just been released. Quite keen to update to latest android 4.2.1 but don't want to update to a buggy ROM.

I just flashed this rom to test it out. Lots of graphical bugs(especially when using the camera) and all of the S-pen features DO NOT WORK. And i also have noticed that my power off button whenever i click it , it does not turn off the screen to go in lockscreen. Other then that..man i was so happy to see AOSP i love it so damn much but..this is just not for me i wish these bugs were fixed and then AOSP is on!!! Thanks for the link though.
No worries for the link . I was surprised no one had been talking about it on here before when in posted it. Cyanogen seems that be the most popular ROM because it's Google stock and optimised. currently using ParanoidAndroid which is great. I highly recommend. Hopefully they'll release a 4.2.1 version of that soon!!

No graphical bugs in PA at all (as far as I am aware). I'm really pleased with it. I'd recommend it to anyone. Tablet apps on this phone also work beautifully well. Like YouTube for instance.
Battery life is SLIGHTLY (we're talking marginal) decreased from Samsung ROM. However, to give you an example of how good the battery life still is - I go to work and use my phone throughout the day for Spotify. It's always connected to wifi at work as I have hardly any signal. I am also always connected to GPS so i can get the most out of things like google now etc. I unplug at 8:30 and get home for about 6:30 every night. My battery when I get home is usually 60%. So I can't complain. When I had my iPhone I used to have to stay constantly tethered!!
