Hello all,
I am new to this thread and was directed here by a friend of mine after attempting to root my phone and being unsuccessful.
I did this last night and was using unrEVOked 3.2. Basically what the error I was receiving was the my firmware was too new??
How do I solve this problem? I have already hard reset my phone (multiple times) and tried running. I had Debugging enabled, but basically everytime it would run and either get stuck at a certain point or just not work at all. Anyone have any quick fixes I should try or suggestions?
*Sidenote: I've had my EVO for 1.5 years and have gotten most of the updates.
Thanks and sorry if this is a redundant thread.
Revolutionary.io + Google = success
Or Google search + "how to root evo4g 2.3.3" - " + reading = success
There is a search bar at the top of this website that you can enter in something to this extent: "how to root htc evo 4g"

Those are 2 good tuts.
I personally just watched a Video on "youtube" just because this day in age, its easier to watch it being done than it is to read it

Alright...I was not sure to post this in development or what because of the thread that stated it was not a Q&A thread, so I came here.
Reason for is I am totally stuck...i have a rooted evo 4g with omj eclair v1.6 and from there it has given me nothing but trouble. At this point i cannot put my phone in recovery for what ever reason (may I add that i have tried all the necessary ways to do so) and now I can't seem unroot my phone. I followed the youtube vid constantly to every detail but I constantly get get the usb error then I tried doing by powering off my device and turning it on with volume buttons and I constantly get the gives me the 140: bootloader version error. At this point I have no other alternative but to try and return the phone for a new one. If there is any other solution for this problem I would be greatly appreciated because I just want to unroot my phone please.

Have you tried looking that this guide and look for the USB part of the thread?
yea the guide is useless because I constantly get errors and for the ruu, again I will try it but I may get the same result. Rest assure if it happens a few more times I will try to gamble and take it back for a replacement phone.
Do you have HTC Sync installed?
lol, guys like i said before when i made the thread, I have tried most of the options that I have found on the net....yes that includes D/L htc sync. If there is no solution for my case then don't worry bout it becasue I have an appointment to go to sprint store tomorrow. Although I do appreciate the help.
Okay, So Ive Just Gotten My New Evo -Woot- About 2 days ago. Since then I have been wanting to root. Soo I've looked and looked to find a nice forum for me to root.
Note that the most ive done is Jailbreak an Ipod and Iphone. Compared to what Ive been reading up Rooting the evo is much more difficult.
Well I finally found a root that looked manageable.; The Simple Root. However when I try to do the last part and install the last version on Hboot it keeps giving me the error message of "Main Version is Older" Want To Reboot?
I dont know what it is that im doing. I Dont have wifi so this may be the problem. But Is there any other way that i can do a simple root without wanting to pull my hair out?
Much Appreciated !

Did you try this one?
uh ohhh... someone posted in the wrong foruuuuuuummmm...
Go to the q & a and search, I am sure there is someone with a similar issue. If I come across anything I will link
(now is a good time to take cover)
Which software version are you on? if you have the 1.47 update then you need to do the simpleroot for that, its here in the development section.
Or you can do this

follow toasts root method from part 1 to part 2, you will be golden. it's not that much work and as long as you follow each step you will be all set! good luck!!!!
I Did do the SimpleRoot but when i try to push the files i get a protocol failure. The bytes never move. It just stays at 0 the whole time. Eventually it says pushing complete but the protocol fails on me and the bytes never move
What worked for me is what seems to have worked for others - I can't find the page on the thread so this is from memory but i'm pretty confident in it...
FOUND THE LINK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720565&highlight=update+failed&page=104
disk mount the phone to the computer
erase the files that were pushed to the phone
- manually copy the files back to the phone
- re-start simple root at step 2
- when told to on the browser and go to that site, reload the page like 5-6 times
- keep the browser open when proceeding to the next step
- DON'T "press any key to continue" close the cmd prompt yourself by pressing "x"
doesn't really seem much different from the original steps but it seems to work try searching the simple root thread for the exact steps if this doesn't cut it for you...

Make sure you have USB debugging checked in Settings > Applications > Development.
I had the same problem today. You need to restart the whole process. DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING WHILE IT IS WORKING ON THE STEPS. If you click on another window or hit another key while you are running 1 of the steps you will mess something up.

I've got nothing new to offer but i did find it interesting that the OP didn't get lambasted for posting in the wrong forum...but then i noticed her username and it all makes sense now.

Sent from my Evo using the XDA App
Luckily it is wearing a Seidio Rugged.
Just pulled a brand new EVO out of the box TODAY about 2 hours ago. I followed EVERY single direction STEP BY STEP with no equivocations.
[GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G from the Cyanogen wiki.
Uninstalled sync, ect ect ect. Phone is set to charge only, USB Debugging enabled, Driver installed (re-downloaded, uninstalled and reinstalled driver twice and rebooted machine).
I'm getting absolutely beyond frustrated right now, especially since a google and XDA search shows NOTHING on my issue, except maybe one or 2 people asking about it then going "lol fixeeeed lol" without providing a solution.
I run the reflash.exe with my device plugged in, set to charge only with debugging enabled. The device automatically reboots, goes into the bootloader and I go down to HBOOT. Once I do that, reflash does it's thing, the phone reboots and reflash says "Waiting for reboot"
After that, it says something like "Flashing ect, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE" and almost immediately, reflash.exe crashes in windows 7 and says "reflash.exe has stopped working". I have rebooted the phone, the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver..I'm at a complete loss.
the EVO is sitting on 2.1 per the instructions in that guide and i'm stuck. No matter what I do, administrator mode, reflash.exe crashes at the same exact point and the EVO just boots back into 2.1. Please help.
umm, try looking in the post just below you

So the new HBOOT disabled all previous methods is what I'm gathering...amazing. I finally give up my perfectly working DROID for an EVO to find out I can't do **** with it.

Hey borob,
I suggest you google "evo unrevoked". I got mine yesterday and it worked straight away.
You got lucky and probably got one off the shelf that had been there a week or two because the latest HBOOT doesn't work with the methods currently available.
I used unrevoked on 2.2 w/ XP though, not one problem at all

yea, i already posted that. not sure if he followed the instructions.
So I had to take my EVO in to get replaced today for screen issues. Got the new one home, same 004, 3.30 versions. Fire up UnrEVOked3 and away I go!
First time I got Internal error: Couldn't find misc.
So, I looked around and didn't really find any useful answers, so I formatted my SD card, popped into the OS to make a quick phone call and then ran UnrEVOked again. This time it says "This was a triumph." However S-ON is still listed in the boot loader.
So I make ABSOLUTELY certain that my driver is still there in the 3 minutes I didn't check it. Instead of saying Android Bootloader Interface or whatever it said a few minutes ago, it now says "Android Composite ADB Interface". I have NO clue what this is, and there's only 3 threads or so even mentioning it. I tried uninstallling and reinstalling the driver, but I get the same thing..
Any suggestions on how I can get this to work? I really want to root this thing, lol.
Im looking to root my phone as well and I read alot before I take on this kind of thing... I have read in several places, your version can't be rooted "yet"... Google your software version along with your hboot... See if any one can do it yet
Sent from the MATRIX... while plugged into my EVO... using the XDA app... from a galaxy far-far away.......
That's the thing. My previous phone was the same hardware and software version. It should work.
The only thing that has changed is the driver in the device manager.
Unrevoked can not be used on your phone to root it you have to use a defferent method. check your hboot, is it 2.02??? If it is go in the developers section and look for the rooting with hboot 2.02 Like a Boss post and follow the directions.
I tried to search through forums and not finding anything helpfull.
I have 2.2 on my incredible. At first when I tried to root with unrevoked it would do the first reboot and then say waiting for reboot. Then it would breifly say something like waiting to settle then give me a error about lost communication and try again.
I tried a couple of times and same issue. Then after coming back to try about 2 hours later, I can't run the program any more. I get a unexpected error. Any ideas on how to fix both issues?
I followed the guide and uninstalled those programs that it listed. And installed the drivers that it needed.
do you have the latest version of unrevoked?
I do or at least I think I do. I went to their page and got it directly from them.
I got the program running again, guess my comp needed to be turned off for awhile. But I still get comm lost unexpectedly with phone error.
I can hear the usb sound being played for something being connected and disconnected. Any ideas on how to stop that?
If you ever had HTC sync installed on your pc there are two apps that need to be uninstalled. Both are called HTC 'something'. Go to Add/Remove programs and make sure both are gone.
Also, did you read the unrevoked faq? There are other programs that can cause problems if installed on your pc.

I would go to the MT3G forums, and start there. U likely wont get alot of help in the Droid incredible forums. Since its two different phones and one is cdma the other is gsm they are also two different beast entirely
