[Q] Delivered today opens in Chinese - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Hi, I've just received my new Iconia A100 16 gig version. On start up it only shows languages in Turkish, Greek, Polish, Arabic, Japanese and various versions of Chinese. Please see the 2 jpgs showing the screenshot. I cannot connect the tablet to my computer. It shows that it's trying to cnnect the drivers, but the shows an error in the communication between your phone and the computer was discovered. It tells me to disconnect and turn off the phone and restart it and after 2 minutes re-connect the usb cable. Can anyone help please. Thanks

I am sorry, I didn't attach the Jpgs. They are attached to this reply. Thanks

Can you try the latest OTA I posted here. It should update your rom to the latest. You'll need a micro sd card

As you can see I am a silver surfer and still learning my way. Many Thanks again. When I pushed the volume key and the the on key the android evetually ended up with the above icon in it, if that helps too,

Correct just put the update.zip in the main directory of the micro sd card. Then this..
1. Turn off tablet
2. Hold the down volume button (closest to power button) first then press the POWER button.
3. Wait for the text in the corner of the screen to show up so you know it's going to recovery.
4. Release both buttons.
5. You will see the green android with moving gears and progress bar on the bottom.
6. Sit and wait......

I hope aznmode's method has helped you. I'm interested if you could tell us where in the UK you bought it? If it was bought in the UK.
I bought mine from CEX, and was very happy with what I received, GEN 1 ROM and everything

Delivered today opens in Chinese
Hi Toy. Aznmode's method unfortunately didn't help . I downloaded everything and went through the procedure which did re-boot the tablet but only back to the turkish, Greek, polish and chinese languages screen, which was the factory setting for the tablet. what i did do instead was to accept the language of turkish and then translated via google each of the words pressing various prompts on the opening (home) page and eventually found the settings via the + key in the top right hand corner. This took me to the widgets; apps; wallpaper and more prompts. Trying each one until I got to more (the furthest prompt on the right) it was there that I found the select settings icon. From there I got the application setting icon and found that within that list there was a Language & input setting. That allowed me to select language which is the top one on the right hand column and it was plain sailing from there. The only problem I did have was that the keyboard and language was set to U S format only. But since the update, I have now got the facility to change the current input method to english. So hooray with a bit of burning the midnight oil, I, a silver surfer found a way to re-set the factory settings for the A100 Iconia 16gig tablet. My tablet came from Simply Electronics whom I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND to my worst enemy. I ordered it on 30th Dec. After complaints eventually to PayPal i received it 12th Jan. So many people have been on the internet saying that they haven't had their goods etc and I thought I'd lost my 300. But luckily it came through albeit in chinese.

Glad you got it worked out. That makes sense now since the update.zip only updates the software and not settings or installed apps. I bet a factory reset wouldve done the trick. If I'm not mistake you can either select your language or it will select it for you based on your location.

Factory reset didn't work only went back to the original screens again. It did show on the screen that it was clearing the cache etc but didn't work for me.
How come you got yours from CEX, thought they only bought back from people?
Cheers

I bought mine from cex as they sell second hand goods (with a year warranty from themselves) I paid 210 for it, next day it turned up in almost mint condition.
Cex also sold me my Nexus S in near mint as well.
The best thing about them is you can trade everything in and use it against the price of something else.

Changed Sim - White Screen

So I have been using my imate PDA2k without a hitch, purchased it unlocked, and was using a local carrier somewhere in Europe (Voda). Went to T Mobile in the same country and put the sim in - BOOM - white screen on startup and it seems to have reset because I heard the pings to indiate screen alignment.
Took it home, used My Mobiler to looksee what is happening. Its all working fine, the screen and everything, its just white! And after several Power/Reset button resets everything is still there but on the device - white screen only. Power on battery and backup indicated 100% but backup battery for a while said "needs replacing" - then on settings now its 100%
The touchscreen works! I reinstalled the password and when I touch the white screen in the places of the four numbers, its ok!
But its all white! What can I do?
hi and welcome to the forum.
there are basicly two options to what could have happened, either something got messed up with the rom and after the sim changed it was triggered and went completely wrong or while changing the sim, you accidently caused a hardware defect.
another way to try that is: put the device into bootloader mode!
the way to do that is press power+record+reset. maybe hold the power+record a little longer after resetting.
if your device screen shows SERIAL V2.0x (where x is a number from 5 to 7), apparently your hardware is ok and just your rom broke. in that case, after you claimed you already hard resetted, you might want to flash that rom again. if i read your post correctly, you are still running wm2003se. if your carrier does not host your rom anymore, you can always refer to xplode's shipped rom archive here: http://firmware.atspace.com/Blueangel.html
if your device still shows only white, either when trying to access bootloader mode, or after re-flashing, yo might have harmed your hardware. you might want to check for a replacement screen. if you want to have a look inside your device, whether the display cable maybe broke, here is a link to the service manual: http://rapidshare.com/files/336406555/HTC_Blue_Angel_Service_Manual.pdf
i don't think it can have anything to do with the backup battery, but if that really was the reason, here you find a thread with someone, selling them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551886
or you could upgrade your rom to wm5 or above, then the backup battery is not needed at all.
Thanks for the great response!
So I waited about an hour of using it with My Mobiler but with a white screen only on the device, and then waited a bit, and and just pressed power and reset again to see if yet another reset would work - and it did.
It was so strange that the previous times I tried to reset it didnt seem to work at all. But I knew that the screen was ok because I used My Mobiler and could press the password for the device on the white screen ok, guessing where the numbers were, and it activated fine.
So strange, but its all ok now. Thanks guys - this device is 5 years old!
mymobiler is a remote connection to the device, so that does not necessarily shows, that the screen is working, because it uses the usb port to determin, what the display would show, just like a remote desktop connection to a pc can work, even when your vga or dvi cable is broken, because picture information is sent through lan or wlan then, with a virtual graphics driver. also for some people, the touch feature worked fine before without the screen showing anything, because that is also another layer, that is transmitted through the digitizer. it could really have indicated that your display flex cable was broken, which is why i went both ways in my answer.
i am glad to hear it works again, just posted to clarify a few things
also, if you ever get tired of wm2003, make sure to have a look at d-two's wm6.5.3 rom in my signature and in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569869
back in the day, when i still used wm2003, i felt quite excluded in mobile developments of the last few years, because many 3rd party applications would just work on wm5 or above and with that rom you can be up to date and use a lot of new features, which make the phone feel less like an old pda and more like a new phone. but now, that your device works again, of course that is completely optional.
Great Tony!
Although I am a little afraid to flash the rom to WM5 or 6 I should give it a go.
Im happy with the BA the way it is with some GUI software!
Thanks again!
i also had different gui improvements installed on wm2003, but still it didn't feel to fingerfriendly, which is important for me, because, let's face it, the BA is a modern phone, not some geeky 90s PDA , so fumbling around with a stylus is just not cool. also, whenever i looked on engadget i was incredibly envious of all the cool apps and GUIs. whenever i looked at ppc freeware pages i saw that most games, media players, browsers... would just work with wm5 or above, and after i found out, that it is incredibly easy to make your BA become a modern device (i would even go as far as calling wm6.5.3 a 2010 phone), i decided i want that, to kick every iphone's butt, to install any app i want, not to be forced to install 20 programs after a hard reset anymore, because everything already works fine and looks nice. i mean, these days, you hard reset, the extrom installs windows marketplace for you, you log in with your live account, it downloads everything you had installed/bought from there, including microsoft myphone and when you start myphone, you are already logged in, so it syncs all your pim data with the internet, and you have everything back. back in the day i was afraid i would lose everything i set up for ages if i ever had to hard reset, these days it just takes an internet connection and 20minutes of your time, to have your phone completely back up after flashing a new rom. it is amazing. before upgrading (the procedure for windows xp is to be found in the 2nd post of the link above) you should still make a backup of all your data, either through pimbackup (freeware by dotfred) at http://www.dotfred.net/ or with spb backup, available at spbsoftwarehouse as a trial version, in case you want to go back. about those backup apps, pimbackup is great because you can schedule backups of all your important information, also stuff that is not synced, like sms or the call history and restore it to any other rom or even other device, but it does not back up your installed programs (most of which you won't need anymore anyway.). spb backup on the other hand makes a backup of the entire system, and can restore the exact state of the device after a hard reset, including all installed programs and those programs settings, on the downside, those backups are worthless on another rom, just work for hard resets.
that was just a fair warning, because not everybody is happy with wm6.5's battery life and performance, especially when coming directly from wm2003. i started with wm6.0 and so i am used to those disadvantages, and since the roms get better with every new release, it is actually an improvement for me every time.
also i need to tell you, that by tomorrow, there will be a new rom released build 23518 by egzthunder1. yes, although the number is not higher, that rom is newer. but since none of us know, if that rom has any bugs, it might not be right to start with that one right away, you should probably try the one from my signature / from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569869 (same thing) because there, the bugs are known and listed. when you have found your way around the new OS, you can still switch roms in about an hour, as stated above, you travel light with the new roms, and as long as your pim data is backed up and you follow the instructions, everything will be fine.
with best regards,
Chef_Tony

I don't know if I can post this here, kindly let me know if this is the wrong thread to post.
I have xv6600 yes I am still using it
It seems that I have broken my Display cable as I don't get any display.
But sometimes when I Slide the keboard in and out many times I do get display.
I took it to the local mobile reparing shop and he says that the cable is broken but I will have to change the complete LCD, as it's not possible to change only the display ribbion.
I was a bit worried in changing the complete lcd as I am not sure what quality of LCD he is going to use.
I would like to know if it is possible to change only the display ribbion. and where can I get one. Your help will be greatly apprreciated I really love this handset and don't want to leave it
Thanks in advance
have a look in the service manual, there you will find the exact display used in the device. there is a photo of it on page 55.
Thanx a lot Tony for your quick reply, this forum is great I have learned a lot from this forum over time.
I saw the display from the service manual, infact the mobile repair guy had opened my phone and shown me the display, but I was concerned if there is any chance that i can just repair or change the ribbon instead of the complete diplay.
i haven't opened up my device, yet. i'm glad i never had to, but from all lcds i know, i think that the flex cable is integrated in the display unit and only has a plug on the other side, so you cannot detach it. also, you should think about costs. the cable alone probably wouldn't be any cheaper than the entire display and if you had it assembled in a local shop, changing the flex cable only (if possible) would be much more work than replacing the entire unit, so causing more costs. actually, i believe the cheapest way would be, buying an entire new BlueAngel. new devices go for 100eur here in germany. the official retail price for a display unit alone is 130eur.

[Q] Note 2 LTE keyboards acts weird and also Pushbullet

Hello,
A very weird thing happens with a Galaxy Note 2 LTE that I have (GT-N7105 model).
It turns out that when the keyboard is displayed, despite having configured the Spanish (Spain) language and English (UK), I can't exchange them by sliding the spacebar and the keyboard settings icon doesn't show up in the status bar.
Also most puzzling of all is that when I'm writing a word and select one of the suggestions, automatically TWO spaces are added after the word when the normal thing would be none is added at first but ONE is added when you start typing the next word.
In addition, the Pushbullet app does not synchronize well between the PC and the Note (It worked perfectly with a Galaxy Note 3 that was stolen). When there is a notification on the phone, it also appears on the computer screen but if I click "dismiss", it does not disappear in the phone. Also, if I open in the phone the notification or eliminate it, the window does not disappear from the PC screen. It also does not work the "ignore notifications from app X" in the PC and finally the universal clipboard works when I copy something on the computer to paste in the phone but not vice versa.
Evidently there is something wrong with this phone but I do not know what it is and having detected these two failures, the keyboard and the Pushbullet, means there may be more failures I have not yet noticed.
I have another identical LTE model that works perfectly although this one is not unlocked to my operator. I've been to SamMobile and I downloaded the exact same firmware that this one has (latest version 4.4.2 of EE company in UK) and I've flashed it in the phone that is wrong but nothing, still the same failures. I've reset it, I've configured again and without installing any app, Keyboard failure still appears. I tried to flash other Firmwares but still failing, so I do not think it is something about the firmware or my personal settings because the keyboard fails even before configuring or installing anything.
What can it be? How do I fix it?

A Few 'Odd' issues with my PIPO X9 TV Box / Mini PC 2GB Ram 32GB Storage.

There are a few issue's most of which I've covered in the title. It allows me to download Chrome, Firefox and any other browser from the play store but if i open them they close after about 3 seconds and a box comes up saying 'Google Chrome has closed' or something along those lines.
I bought the box in more or less brand new condition off someone for £35 (good deal or what) and it came pre-rooted. Now i'll be honest, i'm not bad with computers / phones / tablets etc but when it comes to rooted devices I'm pretty clueless. With the PIPO box I saw it as more of a hindrance than any kind of help, for example the All4 app wouldn't work because the device is rooted and now chrome or Firefox won't even open for more than a few seconds. The device came pre installed with some app's on it called FX and that seemed to be the cause of the rooting?
Another thing, the dual boot option, now the reason this no longer works is my fault. I can't exactly remember what happened but if i do a reset with the pin so the dual boot screen comes up, or i chose the switch O/S option in the drop down settings menu it goes to a screen which has a large circle and Windows is stuck at 64% and the notice at the bottom is 'Windows is loading drivers and may switch on and off during this process' (or words to that effect) and i've left it overnight to no avail. It occasionally jumps to 71% then restarts and its back at 64%.
To be honest I wouldn't mind just completely getting rid of Windows and having it as a pure Android device, and surely Windows 10 is unnecessarily (If I'm not able to use it) using up a lot of space on the device.
As I said earlier I'm not a genius but if someone could guide me through what to do, i'm able to follow instructions regarding Firmware, Roms etc I'd be more than happy to switch on my device, it just go straight to Android and be able to download and use browsers other than the built in one, also i'd like to totally get rid of Windows 10 if that's possible?
Reading this back it sounds like I'm asking a lot, and I'm sorry if I am, but I don't know how to do it myself and i don't want to try and end up with a bricked device, i use the USB's a lot too to watch films i've downloaded on my PC if I can't find them on Showbox etc.
Here are the details regarding Firmware etc.
Android Version 4.4.4
IFWI Version i21
Firmware version V1.0.0_v1
Kernel Version
3.10.20-00005-gcaba818-dirty
[email protected] hash16 (Sorry the hash sign on my keyboard is a poundsign)
Mon Sept 7 19.27:41 HKT 2015
Build Number
X9 Android_4.4.4_201509081738
I dont know if it makes any difference but under Status the serial number is Baytrail0790F68D (Sorry I've just read the back of the box and the CPU is called Intel Baytrail.....derrrr)
Lastly i just want to say if someone's got a Rom / Firmware updates etc I'm capable of following instructions regarding using usb sticks and pressing download combinations on the device.
Many thanks for your time reading this (If anyone has haha) and I'd be so grateful if someone could help me out.
Thanks, Paul

Randomly unresponsive Samsung S10 plus

dear community
I bought a new S10 plus from a Hong Kong seller online, I had the initial screen greeting in traditional Chinese where I used my other phone to translate and chose English language (noticed that the device is probably a Taiwanese version)
First few hours were fine until June 2019 was installed.
Random unresponsiveness and strange behavior (Android status bar will pull down on its own, back and home virtual buttons do not work all the time, non responsive touch screen) This will go away if I lock then unlock and will come back again or sometimes not.
This became an annoyance as it will randomly either make the screen unresponsive or ultra responsive repeating my single touch commands which is a real pain, I hope you get the picture?
I decided to do a RESET, this all went well until it rebooted to a screen where it said something in traditional Chinese and a tick next to SIM1 (I forgot my UK sim card inside) so I clicked on next
it then rebooted and with a greeting in English!
here I went through the setting up and the wireless then it could not connect to Google (how bizarre)
I had to switch off Wifi to be able to get to final home screen, then I switched Wifi back on
Google services were installed however I was unable to add my Google account
also, the random unresponsiveness came back
I tried to hard reset, now without the sim card, same as above I could not add a Google account it does time out....
I can open a browser and open web pages no problem so there is internet connection
my main problem is that the device is not working properly and I cannot add a Google account
researched the forum and I though I might give it a try and re flash official firmware.
I made short videos of this strange behavior of the phone, where I will post them if needed.
My questions are :
would flashing an official firmware solve my problem?
which version I should flash, BRI (Taiwanese) or XEU (UK EU) ?
here is my SW ver.
SAOMC_SM-F975F_OXM_XEU_PP_0018
R58M36793AR
XEU/XEU,BRI/BRI
Many thanks for your advise!
Update:
I have flashed the OXM XEU version from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/asba-official-stock-fw-update-odin-t3908710
Resolved:
I can now add a Google account, the problem was that I have to insert my SIM in order for this to work
Main problem:
random issues with screen and weird behavior: as I mentioned before, I get multiple registers for one touch which is extremely annoying when trying the simplest of text typing including typing wrong passwords!
the status bar is another annoyance which will drop down randomly and unexpectedly
current version:
G975FXXU2ASF3/G975FOXM2ASF3/G975FXXU2aASF3
SW ver.
SAOMC_SM-G975F_OXM_XEU_PP_0018
R58M36793AR
XEU/XEU,XEU/BRI
any ideas?

From the CSC OMC file of the UK rom get the .pit file via WinRAR.In odin put AP in AP slot,BL in BL slot,CP in CP slot and CSC in CSC slot(CSC not Homr_CSC).In pit section of Odin put the file which you got there.P.s. Use PatcheD Odin by 3B.
Hi ExtremeGrief
I did exactly what you suggested, used patched Odin by 3B from here and did extract the .pit file which in the ROM I chose reads:
BEYOND2LTE_EUR_OPEN.pit
ROM was loaded in 05:49 min/sec, however I still have the 2 issues:
1-upon fresh reset of android first setup screens will not progress to home screen unless I disable wifi (it will get stuck forever in the Checking Info screen), also I have to insert my SIM in order for me to add a Google account which is mad. so in the future if I sell my phone the next person will have hard time figuring out why they cant add google account!
2-crazy randomly popping up android status bar is back alongside with the unresponsive screen where it will get fix temporarily by pressing power button to lock then unlock, overall operation of the phone is a pain with constant random touch freezes
any other ideas on what is happening with this phone, is it hardware or software related?
shall I start RMA with the seller or try other fixes?
Are u charging ur mobile while using it??? When these touches appear?? Are you using a genuine charger... Dial *#0*# and go to touch from the menu... Swipe your finger through all the zones to check if touch panel is okay

no, I am not charging it while using it and the charger is a genuine one, I usually use wireless charging for my phones.
These random glitches in the status bar and unresponsive screen touch are random but they are noticeable and I have recorded a video of this strange behavior.
Now using this GSM test screen, there are no issues with the panel, all is registering okay and the weird part that the status bar is not acting crazy or showing up, also back/home buttons are working perfectly in this mode
any other ideas?
here are links for some videos I made to show the issues:
unresponsive screen video1
unresponsive screen video2
Status bar drops on its own!
these links are available for 6 days, I will refresh the links if necessary

Hi,next time you respond to my replies just quote me.Try to make the same thing that I told you to do before, but this time in Options tab in Odin 3B select:Nand Erase All,Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time.If this dors not work then it is a hardware problem but try this anyway.Maybe the seller that you bought the phone from put some malicious software on a hidden partition of the phone.Nand erase all wipes EVERY partition and writes it again.Hope this helps!

Did your try clearing your cache? Normally if your had reset then you won't have to do this... But try it and see.... Shutdown your phone then pressing bixby button + vol up + power until u see recovery then clear cache.
If it's still can't resolve then get help from samsung service center.

thank you for trying to help me.
this is the weirdest issue I had so far with any phone! seems that getting phones from another region and specially China is a journey into a dark tunnel!
I thought the same as you, maybe a malicious software, the phone was spanking new and it was sealed with a guarantee sticker, mind you if they can clone entire buildings they can do anything.
I have started an RMA process with the seller, whats funny is that their T&C state that they reserve the right to not honor the claim if its a firmware issue etc plus they would charge 10% off price for restocking fees.
Any other ideas from anyone?

I just called the service centre near to my city in the UK, basically what he said is that I can bring the phone for them to have a look at however it being made for another region (Hong Kong/Taiwan whatever) then the software he said or parts required are difficult to get hold of and he advised me to contact the seller.
he said that probably I locked the device by mistake if I cannot add Google account.
I am going to visit them (1:30 hour drive) now to see what they can make off it.
not sure what happened nor why this all happening, for my phone software is black magic, I can happily do tinker with PCs etc and even do some basic Linux etc, I am not entirely sure what is making this phone locked and how to get rid of this or even find out if any of the hardware elements is faulty.
latest update:
I spent 3 hours round trip by car and got to the official Samsung service centre, they checked my phone and said that it is very likely the phone is genuine (not sure why they are not 100% sure) and it is designated as shipping country: Taiwan with a model of SM-G975FCKGBRI, however the product date is 1/9/2015! compared to my aging genuine UK version S7 Edge which has a product date of 1/2/2016
when I said that the phone was new in case with a warranty sticker, he said that anyone can do this including Samsung where they refurbish phones and reseal them and apply the special silver warranty sticker and goes back into sale!
upon inspection he confirmed that the right middle section of the touch screen is faulty
what is more bizarre is that he managed to log into google using their wifi connection no problem.
lastly, he said I have two options + last resort:
1-they will repair this on my cost and it could take weeks or months to get the parts for this specific Taiwanese phone (I never heard of this before specially that digitizer is just a component)
2-return it to original seller for them to replace/repair or refund
3-call Samsung care UK and try to "convince" them to take this handset and repair it eventually FOC
Now, I don't know what the Hong Kong seller has done previously to this phone if they had unsealed it then applied a warranty sticker (says Samsung etc..), what I know for sure is that I resisted common sense and ordered this phone overseas to save few bucks
to summarize, I will give up and RMA this phone maybe the seller can replace/repair etc.
thanks all for your help

I just found out why I could not log into Google and the request was timing out!
I have my router at home setup with a DNS server of 9.9.9.9 (as I dont want Google to snoop over all my activity outside Chrome) therefore the phone was not able to connect to Google server for some bizarre reason even though my web browsers have no problem using Quad9 to resolve google services.
I set the DNS up back to 8.8.8.8 and now my phone can instantly log into google!
hope this helps someone who tinkers with their DNS settings on their routers

Keyboard No show

Okay, I'd like to start out with saying that I have Samsung note 10 plus. I may even be in the wrong forum for this question, which I apologise in advance.
I really need you guys help. I'm not sure if it's something I did having installed the app Package Disabler, (and mostly disabling things that I felt were Samsung bloated apps)
but after I did this and restarted my phone, the keyboard is missing. Now, I can't input my password to open my phone. I've Googled around and found some solutions, but they're all dated back in 2017 and things have changed since then.
1. using a wired keyboard or a micro USB adapter just to use it to access the keyboard part which would allow me to open up my phone since my phone hasn't a keyboard at the moment.
2. My only option now is the emergency call button. One suggestion was to dial #211 and that would miraculously do the trick. People were raving about that one, but then again that post was from 2017. lol! I tried it and got nada.
3. I even tried the wipe cache partition and that still doesn't work. I don't want to master reset my phone AGAIN. I just updated it, two ago.
Do you have any other suggestion???

Install a keyboard app to your phone by signing in to the play store from another computer?

Firstly ,
if you have read some of my previous post, i have warned about the possibility that disabling ,
apps eg with a package disabler , can have a "knock on" effect .
Anyway ,disabling what is bloat to you, can be linked to another device function/ system app ??
This is the reason i stopped using a package disabler .
The knock on effects can be various .....??
eg ..system apps can be corrupted or not working .. excessive battery drain ....etc
Nowadays , I only disable apps in the Device/Settings /Apps/....
All i can suggest is ..if you can ??/ ..enable all the apps you disabled with the Package disabler
Double check that you have and maybe do a "clean" factory reset afterwards .???
Do not import any backed up Device settings or data ..as it could have been corrupted
Good luck .
