[REQUEST] Transparent SoftKeys for AOSP roms - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello,
The title says it all......
I currently am running Android Revolution HD with the transparent soft key mods installed, along with some custom soft key icons that I made...
I can't stand the plain black behind the soft keys (while on the home screen), so I use the transparent soft key mod and then I add a dock to my wallpaper so it makes it look like I have a new background behind my softkeys.
This is my current set-up:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here is where the problem lies -
I really want to switch to one of these AOSP roms for the addition of all the customization options, and power menus and all of that. But the transparent soft key mods that I was using, won't work with AOSP roms. Ive tried and tried, they just break the SystemUI and make the phone unusable until I restore my backup.
Im not sure why the mod doesn't work on these AOSP roms. I think it has something to do with how they modded the SystemUI to be able to customize colors and stuff right from the new rom, but whatever the reason, I can't use the transparent mod on these roms... but I can't stand the black background behind the softkeys while im on my home screen.
I have done a few mods myself, but mostly image edits/swaps and very basic codes. Im not good enough at it to figure this one out. Somebody should make a transparent soft key mod that works with these AOSP roms, or maybe incorporate a transparency option into the rom's settings. That would be really awesome.

I agree i will keep watch on this post!!

I have this on rootzwiki but only for aokp rom.

Yea, but we really need this for AOSP roms.....
Its the only thing stopping me from switching roms
Not that I don't like Android rev HD, but I like all the customization additions with some of the AOSP roms

This is sexy. I like it but what about while in apps or when the keyboards open?

While your in an app or anything like the like the app drawer etc... it reverts back to the black background... which is perfect for me... the home screen remains transparent and then it goes black on anything else.
It just sucks so bad, because I want a new AOSP rom so bad, but I can't live with the plain black on my home screen.

All roms for our phone are AOSP........
BTW nice setup

Thats strange, the transparent soft key mods worked on Android Rev Hd, an a few other roms, but every rom that I have tried that said "AOSP" in the title, the transparency mod broke the SystemUI. I wonder why, I really wish I could get this working with some of these newer roms....

I think it's not AOKP oder AOSP or something
Android Rev HD is based on Android 4.0.2 and nearly every other ROM is based on 4.0.3. Somewhere there is the cause for the problem, I think.

I tried both yours and fatsix on rootzwiki and I keep losing both my nav and status bars every time despite me using the correct zip. I even tried to decompile my own systemui and do that and ended with the same result. I'm hoping AOKP can add this soon as an option because I really just cant seem to get this working right.
also above poster, do yourself a favor and please just learn to search forums, its right in plain sight on rootzwiki under galaxy nexus, CDMA, Themes/mods, [MOD] Transparent nav/status bar.

lol OT, but thats such a badass wallpaper

[MOD] Extended Settings for Virtuous 2.0

Hi Guys,
Made a few different SystemUI mods. I thought it would be easier to have them all in one place and not dotted all over the ROM thread.
These mods may break stuff as the SystemUI.apk was pulled from a different ROM. So please do a nandroid before flashing just in case as I will accept no responsibility if your phone breaks. But I have tested them all and they should be fine.
All of the zips also install the HTC Task Manager app.
Also these mods are not approved by the Virtuous Dev Team so if you have problems with the rom please don't report bugs until you have flashed back to the stock virtuous notification bar.
Unlike the mods I posted in the Virtuous 2.0 thread these should have the all the stock notification icons. If I have missed something please let me know.
These mods will not change your battery icons to the one in the screenshot, that is my personal mod and is not included in the zip.

Hi,
how do you get slider at brightness settings? I try flash your files but i don't have it .
Should work have turned auto brightness off?
Of the mod didn't work at all, try mounting system in recovery before flashing and don't use rom manager to flash.
Yes, auto is off but nothing. Isn't big problem but would be nice if its work - one less widget on my homescreen .

While I can say with 100% certainty, 1) I am using one from a Sprint Developer and I am on AT&T. In a couple of the links it does state (for use with all CM9 enabled phones) You may get a screen saying "this theme is missing assets for your device's screen size" you can choose Bummer/ Apply anyway, pick apply anyway.
While I have found 1 or 2 that don't work, I would assume most of the do. Once you download the file go to downloads and press it to install. You will now find the theme in Themes, in your settings.
Good lick and have fun

Ok, I know this is going to sound dumb, but I'm rooted still on the stock rom, can I use these themes? This is the first time i haven't had to load a custom rom, so I'm used to just looking for stuff that goes with whatever rom I'm using. The only real reason I'm even looking at other themes is to get the icon for the App drawer moved to the middle instead of the right side, and possibly remove the 5 little dots for what screen I'm on. Again, sorry for the dumb question, just been so long since I played around.

That was my first thought, didn't do anything. I can hold it seconds and try to move it, nothing. No matter how long I hold it, as soon as I let go, it just opens the app drawer.

[MOD]Softkey Icons

OP Update: 5/12/2013
Happy Summer Time! I want to get back to working on making softkey icons. These buttons are an integral part of my Nexus experience, and I believe that they are for many others.
Since many ROMs (or at least the ones I use) have softkey customization settings built in, I will only be sharing links to the raw .png files to be manually applied, rather than creating flashable zips (like I used to). I feel that it is easier for both me AND you.
I am only linking one set of colors, but if you would like a custom color to be made in a specific icon-set, just let me know.

OP Updated with new goodies
Good stuff. Always appreciate new nav bar tweaks
I believe, going forward, I am no longer going to make flashable zips standard. We will soon be able to have up to 7 soft keys, and with that addition, users will be using them for a wide variety of things. Since it isn't feasible to make flashable zips for every single icon set AND icon configuration, I am just going to release the images. Its better to manually apply them anyway I suppose if someone really wanted, I could still do flashable zips on a per-request basis. Now to make icons for popular apps that match the sets I've already made. What would you all like to see?
I plan on making:
Phone
Messaging
Contacts
Camera
Any other apps that you could foresee being popular to be placed in the navbar?
I was looking for customized nav keys for the rasjelly rom. Would it be possible to make some red keys in this order: back-home-search-menu, or are you only doing stuff for AOKP builds?

I can do that. I'm assuming that rasjelly doesn't have the feature to manually replace the icons, and you'll need a flashable zip file, right? What sort of icons are you looking for? Just the stock, but red?
I like both your rigid and scribble, but in red obviously.
And yes, rasjelly is like a slightly tweaked stock rom so there's no built in features to customize the nav buttons, can't change color, layout, or button type. Flashable zip would be great! Thank you!

Well AOKP is a different rom. These flashable zips are only tested on AOKP, and will probably break something if you flash them over AR. Does your rom have the feature to manually select the soft key icons?

[Q] Any TW style toggles for AOKP?

I love all the options for AOKP but I do not like the toggles. I love the toggles and brightness bar on the newest ICS. Is there a way to add that style of toggle bar to AOKP?
There is an option in the settings to change from the standard toggles like touchwiz/ICS or switches like CM10. I wish it were possible to put the ripple unlock screen and dialer with the 4 tabs across the top.
Check out the cm10 cm9 touchwiz 5.0 theme on the play store. It costs $2 I think but it's totally worth it. Best theme out there IMO.

1) This whole topic belongs in the Q&A section.
2) If you want Touchwiz style toggles flash Touchwiz. No theme for AOKP even comes close to that stock look. The toggles by design are smaller in AOKP therefore any theme you find will only change their look - not size.

1) I did not start the thread. I just found a thread that was similar to my needs, that way I wouldn't create more clutter in the forums.
2) I find your suggestion ridiculous, if I wanted to be on a TW ROM I would be on a TW ROM. If you read my question correctly you will see that I'm not asking for an exact look: "look like Stock Touchwiz or something similar". It is not really a question of size, more aesthetics.

I know you didn't start the thread so that statement wasn't directed at you.
As for your request, I apologize for my 'ridiculous' response. It seems I misunderstood your question. You posted a pic of the stock toggles so I thought you were trying to find a theme that made them look like TW. The Touchwiz 5.0 theme for AOKP I've personally used and while it makes the toggles look pretty damn close to TW they aren't the same size and you expressed that wasn't what you wanted. I merely pointed out that that you really won't find a theme that will look as close to stock without running the stock ROM. Sorry to offend you - that wasn't my intention.

There is no way to get closer to the touchwiz toggles that with touchwiz 5.0 theme. bottom line IMO

dhacker, how is the lag on the homescreen? or in the systemui? because on eos 4, system ui is butter, while homescreen is peanut butter

Home screen scrolling and app drawer seem smooth. I am using a modified Trebuchet from CM for the launcher.

I set the prefered apt config to mdpi and restricted it to normal large mdpi and tvdpi so that cut out the extra wieght of hdpi and also I think speeds loading of things. Plus it's compiled with Google 4.7 toolchain.
clean/wiped install, i assume?

Yes sir
Thanks A Lot Dhacker29 always a fan of your work from the razr forums i have a question please, is it possible to change nav bar style? like making it stock or like tablet ui or just like the nexus 10?
Thanks DH and DT. Very Nice, especially the Navigation icons. Been running on Wingray since yesterday. Downloaded from your Tweet-link. I presume this is the same version. :silly:
I dirty flashed with a System wipe over EOS4 165. Everything seems to work well, except as advertised, Photosphere, which FC's as well as panorama. Suggert you contact dreamcwli who assisted team eos in fixing Photosphere and has been blogging on SH's CM10.1 g+ blog.
I also don't seem to have any icons on the pulldown menue, still trying to figure out settings, a few FC's in Settings. Also, haven't been able to turn off charging light.
I noticed that screen scrolling is slightly lagging. Looking forward to playing more. Thanks to a great new ROM! :good

To be honest I haven't even looked at the Nexus 10 This was the default layout for the nav bar and status bar in aosp. I will dig around

OH sorry about that guys the links are fixed now
Just a couple questions. I'm pretty sure I saw you mention the toggle panel isn't working properly and that's cool but, is there a way or can you make it to where the notification panel is on the right instead of the left. Most people are right handed and I see myself reaching for that corner more often. Also I think its cruel how the data indicator is glowing blue . Otherwise thank you so much for breathing new life into this aging device and I like where this project is going. (Also I am no longer on RAZR or Gnex and was Jelly of all the Kill
ROM goodies )

*edit
Also I now cannot pull down either panel unless I push the multi task/app switcher button.
