Hi, since last update to gg maps i can't use navigation on the galaxy nexus, when it starts calculating the route it always crashes. I've tried disabling GPU render on settings but it doesn't matter. Anyone having this issue? I find it strange, considering it's a google app.
ps: yes, i've already cleared app data
Same problem
I solved it today as soon as I read your username (ruimoura) and saw the flag of Portugal. I got the same problem and I am brazilian.
So when I saw only you and me reporting this problem, I changed the language of my Galaxy Nexus to English (United States).
Bingo! The navigator worked perfectly...
I hope Google correct this bug, so we can use the Navigator on our language (Portuguese).
Thanks ruimoura for your indirect help.
Obrigado.

I think this is mentioned in other threads. Check your Pico TTS setting language in language and input settings. Set it to English if it is set to some other language

This is the first time I bumped into this issue, and I must admit it sucks
Here's the deal, in every single phone I had I've used the phone (UI) in english, and wrote text in spanish using Itap.
My last phone (nokia 5800) had no problems with that.
With this new one, Moto Defy, I see there's no way to change the UI language, and the auto-prediction separately.
I thought it had to do with the fact that Android by default doesn't have a T9 like keyboard for text input so I downloaded a couple of apps for that but all have the same issue, they work fine, but they keep using the language for auto-prediction set in Settings (which is English, for the UI)
Does anybody know how I could accomplish this?
Hope somebody can help =)
Regards!
I had your same issue and I solved it using "htc ime mod keyboard"; you can find it here on xda forum, not on the market (therefore you have to manually install it).
It's fully customizable, has T9 prediction, supports many languages.
Infact I configured the volume button to quickly switch between 2 languages that I use.

thanks, i've tested it and tried but it feels somewhat slow to me :S
I'm really picky when it comes to typing speed so maybe it's just me. I'll see what I can do but thanks =)
My text-to-voice language is set to UK english and I have also enabled the 'force programs to use this choice' option yet the navigation app still uses the american english voice.
Anyone else seeing this on the desire?
Maybe the uk choice is not installed?
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
Both UK and US English packs seem to be installed and are available as language selections. The 'listen to an example option' indeed correctly uses the UK english voice, but google navigation refuses to honour that choice... Does anyone know where maps stores its language choice as it seems to ignore the 'voice input and output' settings?
(this is on close-to-stock gingerbread ROM with maps v5.8.0)
I had the same problem - it's annoying having a robot tell you what to do, even worse to have an American robot bossing you around.
After a lot of tinkering, the problem seems to be that Navigation gets confused if your global language and your text-to-speech language aren't the same. So you need to change your global language to English (UK) in Menu / Language and Keyboard / Select Language. The trouble is, the stripped down Gingerbread for HTC Desire doesn't have English (UK) as an option - only English (US). So you also need to run a little app called "Any Locale, a switching widget" (by leohoo) available free on the market, to let you select English (UK).
Once you have selected English (UK) as your global language, you can actually delete the "Any Locale" app to save storage space.
And ta-da! Annoying English robot is back.
Thanks, it does look like a Google Maps bug, but this works....
UK language
@ SolentUK
THANKS a bunch for that app info! Finally got rid of that American [email protected]%.
It's ok. I can say that. I'm American.
I love the British accent. It sounds just like Ferb from Phineas and Ferb.
Yeah, I like to watch cartoons.... still.
Speech in Navigation is stuck
OKay. Here's the scenario.
Got tired of U.S. female robot very quickly.
Selected English UK whch sounds like Ferb from Phineas and Ferb, if you watch Disney...
Had to use Any Locale to switch to the English UK
Work for a few days, then intermittently went back to U.S. Female robot.
Downloaded SVOX and the voice Oliver UK. He worked for weeks.
All of a sudden now, when I start Navigation(Google) the only things Oliver says is "50 feet". Tthen in about 20 seconds or so, he repeats "50 feet. 50 feet."
Reset all of the language inputs and even tried using different languages. Still Oliver comes on and says "50 feet."
Uninstalled SVOX and Oliver. rebooted phone, but still Oliver comes on saying, yep. you guessed it, "50 feet".
Tried resetting languages ifor the default and langauge inputs and text to speech...again and used Any Locale. Nope!
I know that Google Nav can be buggy a little, but c'mon!
Any help is welcome. I'm excellent at navigating and reading maps. Don't need a GPS, but damn it! It's supposed to be a feature that works, therefore I want to use it. It makes a fun toy.
Got my Nexus today (Vodafone Portugal) and there's a bug with the keyboard, i choose Portuguese language and auto correct doesn't work, at all. Completly empty diccionare ... it works fine with english. Any hint on this?
Thks.
Probably a stupid answer but try adding each word into the dictionary lol. Or might be fixed in an update

Geeeez ... i'm just using swiftkey x. Thks for the answer anyway. Maybe it doesn't include Portuguese corrections, only the keyboard itself?
I've had a problem where some forms on websites (like this one) just inexplicably turn auto correct off. Haven't found any rhyme or reason to this yet.
Hi there, I maby got a little noobish Question for you, but I can't write with the S-Pen.
I can write with it on images, and on s-note and stuff like that, but I can't write facebook status, sms or other
places where u can use keyboard or s-pen. Hope someone can help!
In the samsung keyboard, press the button to the left of the spacebar and enter T mode. From there you can write with your s-pen.

Thats the problem, I have no T mode, think I have turned it off somehow!
Have you tried changing the language option under keyboard settings? I had to change S-voice language to English UK from English US, to get S-pen working on S-voice.

I was having the exact same issue with write input (not just for S-Voice).
Still don't know how it magically changed to English US while watching youtube video's but it did for some reason.
I imagine this is a Samsung bug as I don't see any reason why this should not work for a US keyboard.
I've disabled/removed all the English US keyboards where possible so this won't happen again until it gets fixed with a software update.
Thanks shadow_007 for finding this fix :good:

I have the same problem, but with dutch language. When i set it on dutch the T icon shows up in keyboard, but when set on dutch it doesn't. My friend has the same phone and he has set it on Dutch and the T icon shows in keyboard. Is my rom glirched or something? Or is there something wrong with the settings? Can you help me?
I just upgraded my Nexus 7 2013 to Marshmallow and it seems faster and better than Lollipop, but!
I noticed that Google Keyboard word's suggestion is not working in any other languages but English. I use Russian as second keyboard and word's suggestion field just above keyboard is always empty in all the apps! It was definitely working before upgrade and I didnt change any settings after upgrade. I checked Spanish and French and result is the same - no word's suggestion at all!!!
It only works in English for me now.
Auto-correction is not working too!
Could anyone check if his/her tablet is acting same way?
I've spent few hours so far for Language&Input menu with no success at all!
PS Its related to original Google keyboard not third party.
Either no one cared or I was alone with this issue, anyway I want to update on this. It was magically resolved on its own, no changes no reboots were made and auto-correction and word's suggestion just started to work!
