[Q] SIM unlock with engineering bootloader S=OFF? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hey guys,
I am not new to XDA or HTC devices, just this phone. I recently came from the HTC Glacier (MyTouch 4G) on T-Mobile and got the incredible 2.
I would like to know a little about the Engineering bootloader on this device and if it allows the sim lock to be removed. On my other htc phone, the engineering bootloader allowed this, giving access to any carrier sim card.
The incredible 2 is a global phone and allows access to T-Mobile's 3g network if the sim is unlocked. What do you guys know about this, if I root, enable s=off, flash engineering bootloader and custom recovery, then flash a custom rom and enter the APN for T-Mobile, am I good to go, or is there some more complex thing I am missing?
Any advice would be much appreciated

uh cool... thanks guys

If you don't have a contract with verizon you will have to pay for unlock the phone, there are a couple sites that they unlock you devise for a couple $$$.

From my limited understanding, it is possible to unlock the SIM with s-off and rooted, but you need to run a sense-based rom; SkyRaider Zeus is one. You then need the SIM unlock code which people report they get for free by calling Verizon or online anywhere from $7 on up.
And my limited understanding is the result of reading/searching this and other fora the past couple days.

[Q] International SIM Card - Unlocking

Greetings Fellow XDA Friends,
I have a family plan with my girlfriend we both have G2's running latest CM7Nightly and we use a 3rd MT4G running RoyalGinger 3.0.
I have called tmobile and had them "unlock" them for international calls as well will be going to the Europe this Fall in October.
They emailed us an unlock code.
Question 1. Do I need to purchase an intl sim card insert it then use the code they gave me before unlocking?
Question 2. Can I unlock them before going overseas and then replace my U.S. SIM card and continue to use this?
If you rooted your phone with gfree its already unlocked...

Sorry still learning,
Sorry for the ignorance. Just learning as fast as I can, If I rooted all 3 phones with visionary then they won't be unlocked?
My understanding and explanation would go like this.
Using the unlock code simply allows the phone to be used internationally with another carrier's SIM. Applying the unlock code simply opens up the functionality to read another SIM card.
Apply the unlock code, and you can put in any SIM card from a carrier that runs on the same frequencies as your phone. Put a T-mobile SIM card back in and the phone will work as it does now.

What he said is correct, and you'll only need to enter the code after inserting a different SIM card into your phone. When you get home, plug back in your other card and you're still good to go. (Or now you could go and switch carriers without breaking or signing contracts )
Or just unlock with gfree and never have to enter a code...

Visionary only gives you root, not S-Off. If you are on CM7, then you must have S-Off (in order to be able to flash any custom ROMs). Do you remember how you got S-Off? You probably did Visionary than gfree, and just don't remember doing gfree. Did you use ADB, and enter any terminal/command lines on your desktop computer? If so, you probably did gfree.
If you did gfree, then you have Subsidy Unlock, which means your phone is SIM-unlocked. Nothing else to do, just slip the new SIM into your phone and use it.
Some people have had an issue, where applying the T-Mobile SIM unlock code renders their phone unable to read any SIM. So I would stay away from the code, and do gfree, if you have not already.
Has anyone used Rebtel? http://gigaom.com/mobile/free-international-calls-android-rebtel/ My gf and I are moving to the UK
I am wondering should I just cancel my tmobile account? Is there a way out of the contract? What do I do?

[Q] Canadian Virgin WFS

Anyone unlock one of these? I seem to remember reading somewhere a few months back Bell (who now owns virgin) saying they will never unlock it.
However I see that there are "WWE" branded unlocks for my version, wtf?
Here is the url of the exact phone I have - http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/phones/phone-details.html?model=HTCWILD&colour=White
Please no "I unlocked my DerpCellular wfs, you can too!!" stupidity that most of these threads digress into, either you have the exact phone or not. Anyone who lives in Canada and deals with Bell will understand why this needs to be asked
Hey, another virgin canada user.
i have that exact phone (same colour too) with virgin. Mine unlocked just fine via the htcdev unlock. You just need to select the "Bell Mobility WWE" RUU when unlocking it.
unlocked and rooted. bye bye useless bell apps.
be sure to notice that the unlock does a factory reset. back your stuff (contacts!) up before you start on it.
So when you say unlocked using the DEV tool, does that mean its network and sim unlocked? Also just curious, I have a Bell SIM card, can I use this in this phone without unlocking the network/sim?

nope, the htcdev bit only unlocks the bootloader. the sim lock and all the other bits of s-on remain in place. you'll need an xtc clip or an unlock code if you want the ditch the network shackles.
as for the virgin->bell, no idea. there seems to be conflicting information on whether bell/virgin sims are interchangeable or not. some people report it works, other report it doesn't.

Excellent, I was NOT expecting to be able to do this.
And now for a stupid question, what is a good way to back everything up for a quick reinstall?
AFAIK, There isn't one really, other than exporting your contacts and writing down all your apps names, as all the real useful backup methods require root.
OTOH, unless you like customizing extensively, it should only take a day or two to get things back to normal.

difference between bootloader and SIMlock

Hello all,
I just got an AT&T HTC one X (first smartphone in my life), rooted the phone and unlocked the bootloader by following the tutorial posted on XDA and official HTC bootloader-locking website. (Hail grankin01!) I am pretty sure that my HTC is unlocked (UNLOCK was shown on bootloader).
When I plugged in my SIM card, which was from T-mobile USA, I was asked to enter 8-digit network PIN number. I was confused and started to google related information and found no tutorial regarding how to unlock SIMLock. (It seems I need to provide IMEI and purchase from phone-hacking website.)
I have no intention to ask how to break SIMlock or PIN number but eagerly want to know the background and difference between bootloader(hardlock?) and SIMlock.
I am very new in the area of Andriod development and smartphone (touch-screen phone), the terminologies or concept I used above could be flawed and make no sense. I will be very appreciate if someone corrects me or posts related information.
Thanks!!!
Bootloader is only for for changing roms, not SIM

A boot loader unlock means you can flash custom ROMs and recoveries
Sim unlock is so you can inserts different providers sim
You can usually get your sim unlock code free by ringing your provider and telling them you are going abroad and would like to use an international sim whilst away

[Q] HTC one m9 unauthorized sim card

Hello guys, sorry to bother. I am contacting you to see if someone can help me, i´ve searched and searched the web without any luck. Almost three weeks ago i got here in Mexico an HTC one M9 from Telcel, I have two mobile phones two lines one telcel one iusacell. I needed to change the iusacell phone but did not like what they had. I got the telcel phone HTC one m9, and it was unlocked from telcel, i put my iusacell sim and worked great. Strangely after two weeks, the screen intact, with not a bump and a glass cover, internally failed and i sent it to a authorized center from the provider, they sent it to HTC and HTC sent me a brand new phone.
This new HTC one m9 works perfect with the telcel chip, i inserted the iusacell chip and it gave me message "UNAUTHORIZED SIM CARD, EC calls only". I assumed it was normal, went and bought the unlock code and tried to enter it, but i noticed it never popped the network unlock screen, it always pops the UNAUTHORIZED SIM CARD EC CALLS ONLY" message on the main screen and the only thing it lets me do with the iusacell chip is place emergency calls. no codes, not even to check imei.
I´ve been looking for support with no help, when entering the unlock code and hitting call (no ok button) it tells me its not an emergency call.
Searching i found that its probably that in the service menu (mode) they deactivated the network unlock screen, but i have not found how to get into the service mode of the phone, everywhere for older htcs they say its *#0011# but no luck, the only codes that work are the *#*#4636#*#* and the 3424 but none of them help me.
What can i do? I prefer to use my iphone for that line and use this phone for my other line which is on a different carrier.
Any ideas or help?
cheers and thanks
Ivan
They gave you a new phone, new motherboard and it's not unlocked. I would assume. It'll probably need to be simple unlocked again. With the first phone you had to request that it be unlocked right?

Strangely enough the first phone i bought came unlocked, i had purchased online the unlock code but when i inserted another sim i did not require it. The problem with this replacement M9 is that although i´ve already bought the unlock code the screen never prompts for the network unlock code. When i insert a different sim that from the carrier (telcel) it prompts an "UNAUTHORIZED SIM CARD; ER CALLS ONLY", i´ve inserted IUSACELL MEXICO SIM, ATT USA SIM
TMOBILE USA SIM all with the same result.
cheers
Ivan
I know with the T-Mobile phones, or at least I'm pretty sure, we have to flash an international rom to get that screen to come up. Kinda sucks but maybe that's the problem?

Thanks I was considering it, i think its a possibility, although, i havent searched much but there is still no way to free the bootloader of an HTC one M9 and im sure myne is pretty locked up =(
cheers Ivan
You can unlock it or s-off , but a-off is $25. Unlock is free on HTC Dev unlock. It's pretty easy, have you used HTC dev unlock before?

thanks yes i´ve used it before, but HTC still does not list as an option the M9, only the M9

It works I've used it. You have to select the very bottom option, it says something like all other models

I finally got the bootloader unlocked, root and s-off, now the question would be what rom should i flash in order to get the unauthorized sim card message out when i insert a different carrier sim, so the network unlock screen pops and i am able to enter the unlock code?
cheers and thanks

I used ARHD to unlock my T-Mobile m9. Prior to that I also wasn't getting the option of putting in sim unlock code similar to yours. However once you flash and sim unlock it, you can flash any rom and the sim unlock will stick. Good luck.

Thanks =) i did manage to get a new rom into it ARHD and interesting enough when inserting a different carrier sim now I do get the network unlock code screen. I tested the pin i had bought and it did not work, I asked and they told me they will try to find it out. I did try a few more services to buy the code but they all tell me that they cannot find my IMEI in their database. This i find really strange, does anyone know what can it be? I need to unlock since i will be travelling to the USA and want to put a prepaid card into my phone.
cheers
Ivan
I had the same problem as you. My HTC was originally from T-Mobile, I unlocked bootloader, flashed latest TWRP recovery, rooted and S-off'ed. After that I also set CID to BS_US001 and MID to 0PJA11000
After that downloaded Developer Edition RUU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-one-m9/general/att-developer-edition-ruu-how-to-t3086948 (use the 1.32.617.30 RUU.zip, using the 0PJAIMG.ZIP method), after that you will be prompted to insert unlock code and receive latest updates, hope it helps!

This is for not found service, http://www.ebay.com/itm/HTC-not-found-Unfound-unlock-code-for-Telus-Kado-Wind-Bell-solo-AT-T-T-mobile-/281679367246?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item4195660c4e
If you already bought and received an unlock code there is a big probability that you had a typo with your imei maybe. Usually when you receive an unlock code they tend to always work. Hope it helps
Hold on there's a tested and working free sim unlock in here somewhere! I have used it and multiple others, let me try to get the link.

No root = no custom recovery?

After several pages of reading i need to ask this:
I have a n910v that is a CDMA phone and i need to use it in a GSM network. For this i found that there is a way to reach that trough a "script". In order to run that i need to set the "signature verificatio" off. (I'm ok with that, i trust the script developer), but for doing that i need a custom recovery (right?) and to have a custom recovery instaled i need to rooot the phone (as far as i understand), so: since there is no root for this sm-n910v there is also no custom recovery?
Thanks!

For a custom recovery you need a unlocked bootloader witch the retail Note 4 dose not have. Root can be achieved without a bootloader unlock but a unlock allows the custom recovery without having root thus making it much easier to root.

Hmmm, so you are saying me that i need a bootloader unclock?
Not sure why you need to do anything of the sort? I am using 2 Verizon note 4's here in Ireland on GSM my wife and I. I did find when I received them they would not work with a GSM sim or connect to a GSM Network here in Ireland. So I went on ebay and bought a Verizon sim card, dummy/dead/unactivated what ever for 5 dollars poped it in to both phones, they said activating phone then activation failed. But guess what GSM sim card worked after that....its a strange one.
By the way it needs to be a 4G Verizon sim card. I tried another Verizon Sim and it didn't work.
Hope this helps

Well, i'm in Argentina, to have a Verizon SIM card here is going to take about 4/5 weeks, but is good to know, thanks.
Btw, ur Note 4 was also a CDMA phone?
Yes it is a cdma. Took about 2 weeks for me to get Sim. Make sure it's a 4G one you buy. It's well worth the wait. Best of luck.

For a custom recovery yes,for a carrier unlock no. These are two entirely different unlocks. As gersrt said you need a different sim card. The phone should already be carrier unlocked.
