Best car mount for vent - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Can anyone provide a link or recommendation for a car mount for the nexus gsm model that attaches to the vent.
The one I have can only be in portrait, and I like landscape at times
Many thanks
I live in canada, and they don't stick at times

This isn't what you asked about, but another option to consider.
I usually use vent mounts, but recently switched to this CD-Player Slot mounted device, which easily accommodates portrait and landscape orientation.
Depending on if you have a CD Player, where it is located, etc., this may or may not work for you, but I like it a lot:
http://www.mountek.com/

My previous phone was a MyTouch 4G and I found a simple $10 swivel holster for it on ebay. Two zip-ties around the AC vent blades and I had a decent car mount that rotated for landscape too. Mine had a flexible clip on the top to hold it secure. It worked so well I bought a 2nd one and put it on my bike.
I have not been able to find one for the GN but I'm sure they will come, and probably before we can score the official pin-style car mount.

Awesome find. This looks awesome. I'm just weary about how it would work with my 6 disk CD player.

A lot of new cars today come with 6 disc changers, would be interesting, I still want a 3 pin connector dock but I am interested in seeing what people thought of this if they have a 6 disc changer

If you use your CD Player regularly, inserting and removing CD's, then this won't be a good option.
My car has a 6-CD changer as well, but I rarely use it. The Mount just goes a short way into the slot (which actually remains closed), and the screw adjustment secures it in place.
I think you can check your particular car/model to see if they have tested it, to determine compatibility. It's easily removed, so can be switched to another vehicle, or if you needed to swap out your CD's.

I made my own for about $20. I used this smartphone vent mount but the legs to support the phone covered the headphone jack on the bottom of the phone. So what I did was order a cheap case and break off those legs on the mount and super glued the hell out of it. You can also swivel the mount and use it landscape if you'd like.

It works great. Since the phone is in the case, the ports are easily accessible. I'll post pictures the next time I go to my car, it's cold out

That's awesome man !!!
I'll never buy stand, now that I know I can make my own
+rep
nice stand but i'm more interested in the clock you have on the screen. is that an app?
I believe he is using Kaloer Clock (Search it in Market). Is that correct?
Yeah, it's kaloer clock....i have it set to turn on automatically whenever i charge the phone. It switches orientation too and allows you to set the brightness level. Makes for a great bedside clock.
Nice stand. Huh, I may follow the directions to construct one.
As for Kaloer clock, I found that it made the SE screen lock disappear, no matter which setting I used with the clock. I can only get the screen lock back only after I go to settings - applications - and force close Kaloer clock.
Did that happen to you and if so, have you found a solution.
I made one from Lego.. even managed to build in a little android!!.

btw. cool stand, i'll definitely make one
For people curious about the case that I have in the photos it's this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Soft-Plastic-Ba...ewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item45f27d59a9
I bought it from this seller as well.
I wonder if anybody here could make a DIY car mount for x10?hehe
men,its cool,i like it
Here's a stand made from only ONE business card:
The best part of this is that you can unfold the business card, put it in your wallet and use it when you need to!
And yes, I do work for Fido (Canada Wireless Company owned by Rogers) but removed my name from the card
Thanks for sharing Tri3Dent! It looked pretty decent!
Even more stable than the stand that came along with my set. Gonna make one!
beautiful stand!
heres my wall mount stand i needed. i use mine as a clock/alarm, so i wanted it someplace where i wouldnt lose it. hope the pics work.
took me about 45mins with my mitre saw and dremel, threw some old left over car paint and clear coat onto it lol.
does the job though super sturdy too.
tell me what you think!
Ptesmoke
EDIT: lol just looked at the last pic (taken by htc diamond) its not off level!! theres some weird shadows cast there somehow, anyways yea its level just like the shelf above it i promise hahaa!! I should maybe grab a side pic of it to show how i have it angled back at about 15 degrees....

Very nice. I would stongly recommend a plastic type of card as paper might not be strong enough (at least mine)
Dunno if this helps anyone but u cud always steal a stand off someone with one of those nokia comes with music phones (5800?). They fold out and fit our x10s perfectly.

DIY Mytouch 4G dock brainstorm

I am trying to find a relatively simple and cheap method to build what could be considered a night stand for my phone, and I am fairly confident that I am not the only one. Is anybody out there looking for ways to build such a device (even in passing)?
A member of the t-mobile forum recently ordered a stand from www.ezestand.com, which they are going to test out. The website mentions that the stand is not compatible with the droid incredible in horizontal mode, though. That seems like an issue that could plague the mytouch as well.
Another option I have been looking at a bit would be to use a business card stand. Something along the lines of the following stand could work...
http://www.amazon.com/Rolodex-Disti...MH/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1294169822&sr=8-13
Because the ends are open, the width of the phone would not be an issue. There is also a small base under the stand, and depending on what it is made out of, one could conceivably run a wire under the stand and cut a hole for the micro usb plug. It would be best to use a right angle micro USB, though.
Simple, cheap, and compatible with any phone.

LOL brilliant
While that is very neat, I don't like the idea of having something permanently on my bedside table that looks like garbage.
For what it's worth, I stopped by office max and they had that exact business card holder that I linked to in stock. It was cheaper there (about 6 bucks), and the bottom is made of a solid piece of some kind of particle board (as opposed to hollow plastic). That makes it a bit trickier, but I can imagine how a right angle micro usb plug could be worked in through the back piece of metal and a little shelf could be put in the bottom to hold the bottom of the phone up.
so i have been thinking of doing a car dock for the mytouch 4g, since I successfully modded the oem desk dock to use the three pins on the side..
well, I have a alpine blackbird navigation I bought awhile back and it had the car dock for it and I was thinking may be I can do something with this since I hardly use or I lost/broke the blackbird...
but I here are pics I took:

I was thinking of switching or joining the mytouch to the alpine dock:?
let me know what you all think?
Interesting idea. From the video I have seen of the official dock (primarily yours), it seems like it is quite a snug fit. I am not sure how you will be able to recreate that, but I bet that dock would work fantastically.
App Launching On Power
Im not sure if the official dock launches apps, but if you want app launching Check Out "powerwifi" from the android market, or you can go here http://sites.google.com/site/scadaguru/power-wifi
Help Support This App, it was made by my Dad
Help Us Out
I have been thinking of doing something like this myself as well... I even drew up some quick ideas and made a cardboard prototype...I tried to design it where the angle may be adjusted....idk..
hmmmm
i had a thought about this also. what if we found a case that fit the phone and cut it down to spec, mounted it, then wired it up. i was even thinking about using the case to mold some others so i could make multiple ones that i might like

Car mount

I downloaded Navigon for a road trip I was just on and it was great using my xoom as a GPS device. What wasn't great was grabbing it every time I made a turn...so I need a car mount, temporary preferred. I did some searching and found this site. Anyone have any comments on their products?

I tried their vent mount for the xoon and my vent broke because of the xoom weight. However what I did was in bought a car mount from proclipusa for my type of car and I use the xoom holder from the site you listed together it was perfect.

I don't know about other countries but in the US there is no place in the country where having a 10" tablet mounted to your windshield is legal.

You must have gotten something other than what I got! Did not work at all. I even tried to adapt it...now it is just sitting in my junk corner.
Ram-mount dot com has the xoom mounts available.
also Gpscity dot com. for Gpscity use coupon code: ramlivechat or ramemail5 to

The one that you originally posted too... I purchased and did NOT like it at all. Way too wobbly, and difficult to install to the bolt for my seat as it was not a truly "universal" attachment method.

I don't remember the brand but it was the only one they had in store for large GPS devices.

This is true. Every in dash head unit that has a touch screen or DVD/nav capabilities has a wire that is connected to the e-brake so that you can't play a movie on that screen or operate certain navigation controls while driving. Having any type of large screen within viewing range of the driver is not allowed to be operated as such while driving. If you have this mounted to your windshield you will most likely get pulled over for it if a cop sees it.
If you want a car mount for it you should probably look into the type that connects to the base of the passenger seat or one that fits in the side of the dash so it isn't visible above the dash.

I never used it hanging from the windshield, but did 250 mile trip in the passenger seat with it hanging from the passenger window. Had no problems with it.

Thanks for the legal advice guys, but this is not my main concern. Stability is my main concern. I wouldn't be mounting it on the windshield anyway as I drive a small (Scion tC) car and it would take up an enormous amount of real estate on my dash if I were to do that...I'm thinking more the center console area. I don't need access to my radio as I use Google Music from my phone for audio entertainment, so blocking it isn't a big deal.
nooomoto, let me know what you end up doing and how it works out in the end. I also have a tc and have been going back on forth on which one to get. I like the padholdr, but it's 4x the cost of any other option.
Lol. I love pictures.
I'm looking for this also but one that connects under/on the glove compartment.

RAM car mount

RAM mounts (http://www.ram-mount.com) claims to have a holder that will fit that Tab 10.1 It is model RAM-HOL-TAB6U which they claim also fits the Motorola Xoom. It seems weird that these tables differ in all dimensions by several mm and yet the same mount is listed for both. Anyone have experience with this or with RAM mounts in general? They seem to be a pretty big name in this field. They certainly charge enough.
Here's one I ordered for under $13. We'll see if it actually works when I get it.

I got it and it does the job. I use it as a passenger when my wife is driving and stick it on the passenger window in front of me.
It's a lot of weight hanging off the end of that arm so it bounces a little.
It's not the greatest but it's certainly worth what I paid for it.
Thanks for the info, I am ordering one.
Do these actually work well? and do they interfere with the passenger?
I just ordered a RAM twist-lick suction cup mount and the generic xoom/galaxy mounting platform for my upcoming trip to ireland. Will let you all know how it works out. Nervous about that much money hanging on the windshield.

I just got mine yesterday (TAB6U) and it does *not* fit the 10.1 tab. The 10.1 is slightly wider (the narrow side) than the Xoom and so it will not fit in the two 'brackets' that hold the 10.1 tab. Maybe it fits the 10.1v, but I couldn't say.
RAM-HOL-SAM4 is the one made for the tab 10.1 suppose to be out towards the end of july.
To re-start a dead thread, the RAM mounts for the 10.1 have been out since December, 2011 now. I've got two, one that uses a windshield mounting and one that uses the seat bolt. The mounts fit great and work great too.
Here's the seat mounted one:

Ditto on the thread restart!
I have the RAM mount for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (RAM-HOL-SAM5U) on a twist-lock suction mount in my Jeep and it is great. Tab snaps in/out of the roller clip mount very easy, and this thing is SECURE! Great setup for using the Tab for navigation while driving.
Warning: won't work if your Tab is in a case.
Not a criticism of the Tab mount itself, but if you have the thing on a longer RAM extension arm it will wiggle a bit when you hit bumps, etc. It's a problem typical to the whole RAM series in my experience.

Homemade Car Mount - Galaxy Tab 10.1

I couldn't find a car mount for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 that I actually liked, so I just threw this together in my shop. I think it's almost done, just gotta grind down the weld points, and repaint. Btw, this setup dosen't require any mod to the car.
(Yes, I know I need to clean the screen).
Okay, It's not letting me put an image code in.

While we are sharing, I was pretty pleased with this setup I built for my car. The US version of the BMW Z4 has a removable cup holder that plugs into the side of the center console. I purchased a spare cup holder from BMW, took it and the Samsung car windshield mount apart, and then screwed a couple brackets onto the cup holder so I could mount the Samsung windshield mount. The cool thing is that the mount is interchangeable with the phone dock and the 10.1 dock, so I can use the same cup holder-based mount for both tablets and my phone and just switch between cradles. I've even found that the LG Nitro HD (which I upgraded to from the Galaxy S2) fits in the same car dock.

(You can actually see in the reflection of the 7" tab that I am taking this photo with the 10.1, and my GS2 is sitting in the little tray in the center console...)
All the mounts I could find were.........I don't know how to describe it. I wanted something set in the same area of my stereo so I could skip songs, etc. I ended up building an all steel setup that would fit in most cars, that will hold most full size tablets.
I'm just gonna put the pics in my album on here.
Yours looks awsome, btw.

It's not clear from your pictures how did you attached it to the car.
The "legs" on the side of the frame extended down to both sides of the console, and the leg on the right has and adjustable screw piece to adjust the size abit. It also has a little 2 sided tape on the back of the frame to keep it from flying toward you.(yes, that happened once, the car is a Challenger RT, so it's got a bit of take off speed).
