Every ROM has a requirement like hboot type, sdcard EXT type and size, etc. Make sure you check the requirements of each rom and download the right link.
via xda app

Thanks stankyou

1. every phone has an hboot its just a matter of what type of hboot you are using. You are probably on stock hboot. Check alpharev.nl to get an idea. You can check it by shutting down and then pressing and holding volume down button and power on your phone. It details should be on the upper left side of the screen
2. it will depend on the rom. Most of the time the rom would say "for stock hboot" or "cm7r2" hboot"
3. Search for SNQ. He makes Sense kernels.
via xda app

if you know what do you need for HBOOT, watch at this page for instructions alpharev.nl

Most Roms (particularly AOSP Roms) will fit on stock hboot.
Is your Desire GSM or CDMA? Only certain roms will work on CDMA phones.

[Q] newbie having rom update issues

Hi guys,
I have recently swapped my iphone 3gs for the htc desire, it was modifiied by previous owner;
hroot
s off
redux v1.6 with 2.3.1 gingerbread (he tells me)
ok
so I have decided that I like the HTC sense type apps that this rom doesn't have, I cannot use htc sync with this rom, (it works with my mrs wildfire and kids legend) (stock).
I have downloaded numerous roms from here, and using the rom manager and or clockwork mod, have attempted (unsuccessfully) to load new roms.
luckily I backed up and can restore to this rom without any probs, however i really want this to work( 3 evenings so far)
all the videos i have seen re updating roms, use htc sync, this is the only step i miss because it will not connect to this phone, is there another way?
I cannot unroot either, same issue no htc sync
Can anyone advise how i sould proceed with this?
TX in advance
Col
To find out the specific rom your phone is running go to Settings > About Phone
Can you elaborate on why you can't install other roms?
Tx for looking,
phone shows android version 2.3.2
kernel version 2.6.37
mod version is redux v1.0.0 rc 6
i just keep getting fails on the rom installs, different roms fail at different lines and it aborts install
Col
Ask your friend what HBOOT setup he has- I do not have S-OFF myself, but I know that if he installs a different table with a smaller partition, there may not be enough room for you to install a rom under than those that fit.
If that's the case, install a different setup, and you should be good to go.
Tx again,
I traded this phone for my iphone 3gs, i wont see that guy again lol...
i just checked the hboot on my phone
alpha rev oxygen
bravo ptv1
hboot-0.93.1000
microp-031d
touch panel synt0101
radio 5.09.05.30_2
aug 10 2010 1752
Any help how to install a new setup would be great, keep in mind i cant use the htc sync
Col
fyi I just installed oxygen 2.0 rc7 successfully (wow) first one lol
so is the oxygen launcher different to ruu ?
Col
You're using the Oxygen HBOOT so you can only install ROM small enough to fit on the internal memory of that HBOOT. If you wanna try a Sense ROM you'll have to either use an RUU to go back to 100% stock or change the HBOOT back to a Sense one to allow it to fit

Tx again guys, that explains some things, is the sense a launcher like hboot or a ruu/rom
again can i update without htc sync?
Col
You're confused about what a launcher is. The only thing you need to know is that your HBOOT can only accomodate a ROM of a certain size, that is why you haven't been able to install other ROMS. Search in the development thread about AlphaRev and HBOOT, and get a new HBOOT layout.

i have looked a number of methods described here but they require connection to pc, as i said i cannot htc with this rom?

You will have to flash a new hboot using fastboot commands. To do this you will have to have htc sync installed on your pc (it doesnt actually have to sync with your phone) and you will need the android sdk installed on your pc. Just google abit ... otherwise you can go here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html just follow step 1 and 2.
Once the drivers have been correctly installed you can enter bootloader>fastboot connect your phone to your pc and flash a new hboot layout to your phone!
The alpharev site explains this process: http://alpharev.nl/

a few questions on the desire

Just got a few questions please hear me out ok , sorry if I posted in wrong forum
(running htc dev 2.3.3 on my gsm desire )
1. After I soff with revolutionary , does unrevoked 3 root method work ? or should I downgrade to froyo then unrevoked 3 (wanna gain root so I can change roms )
2. On revolutionary I get a invalid beta code (tried caps , lower case typing in every way I could think off ) what am I doing wrong ?
3. Are there any other ways to soff my desire besides revolutionary ?
4. Other ways to root my desire? Which are easy as unrevoked ?
5. Are there any android 4.0 roms for the desire which have the onscreen home back etc buttons ?
6. Know a stable low battery consumption rom with sense 2.1 (after the same sense found in dhd , not after 3.0 etc found in sensation )
7. Whats a good miui rom which is in English and stable (don’t care if it’s in uk English etc) for the desire ?
8. Are there any custom roms which use rru method of transfer ? same as htc’s method of transfer
9. What normally causes the system to freeze ? when I use the stock htc camera , phone etc occasionally my phone freezes up for like a 1 min then reboots ? doesn’t occur with 3rd party apps
10. What causes the system to not shut down ? I know it’s not my apps even without them it still occurs
11. Is it possible to dual boot another os on this phone ?
12. How do I know if I need to install a radio ?
I am almost a total noob but anyhow I decided to drop these questions as I couldn’t find a straight forward answer and plus my phone not being able to shut down when I need it to is a major inconvenience eg when I am at the airport or area’s which require phone to be off
Thanks
Alot of your questions do have a straight answer on the xda forum. Like the miui rom, try the miui-xj ! Easy to find. I am also new to flashing and solving problems don't get me wrong. Spend some more time reading here. And if you have to switch off your phone you can also put your phone in flightmode....pretty easy. Good luck finding your answers, maybe somebody else can give them to you but I have simply not the knowledge.
With kind regards
Sent from my miui based desire
1,4 - Once you're S-Off, you can flash a custom hboot if you like, you can flash a custom recovery (both via fastboot), and from this custom recovery you can flash custom ROMs, which are generally rooted.
6 - I personally still use baadnwz/InsertCoin-1.4.4 (when I'm not playing around with newer and fancier and/or more experimental ROMs) but that one is no longer being developed. You could look at tamirda/RevolutioN and/or some of coolexe's work, among others. Look at the 'Desire Index'-thread in the development forum.
9 - undervolting, overheating, loose connections, corrupt storage, (moisture-)damaged circuitry, …
10 - Settings->Power->Fast boot <-- uncheck it if it's checked.
11 - Not quite, but you can make nandroid+ext backups for different ROMs that you can then restore and boot. Preferably ROMs that use the same hboot.
I have no personal experience with revolutionary or with the htc 2.3.3 ruu.
12 - most of the time its recommended to flash the radio to the latest one.first run the Rom you want if the signal is bad you can always flash a newer radio later. And always read ALL the info on the OP from the rom you want.

You will probably have issues with wifi or camera if you have an older radio version that is required by the installed ROM.
In some ROM threads it is specified explicitly which radio to use. And you can always ask (in the ROM thread) if somebody already didn't ask that.
7. Both Miui-xj and Miui-au are in english and i believe stable. Been using au lately but used xj for about a month for daily use with no issues.
8. Are you refering to OTA (over the air updates) if so both the above rom's support this feature.
12. I believe it depends on the rom you are using, tried a few rom's with my old radio 5.11.05.27 and never had an issue (most of them recommended the latest radio) upgraded a few days with 5.17.05.23 and the only thing i noticed was a little better wifi coverage. (could also be placebo effect )

re question 8 an exe which does everything flashing, installing the rom , updating radio etc , not ota
I'm not aware of any rom that flashes the radio for you, but then again I haven't tried that many rom's myself.

[Q] Moving from a custom ROM to a stock ROM

Hi everyone !
I wanted for a while now to move to the stock ROM on my HTC Desire, and I looked a lot (like 2 weeks maybe more) into the forums but doubts remain so here I am. My question might sound a little bit stupid to you but I want to be sure before doing anything because I cannot afford to have a phone that does not work at the moment.
So, my phone is S-OFF, I am running the Runnymede AIO 5.0.3 ROM actually with this baseband 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27, and I have the 4ext Touch Recovery. I would like to use the RUU utility to move back to the stock RUU WWE 2.29.405.5 Radio 32.49.00.32U 5.11.05.27 so can I just do it normally by executing the RUU or should I perform any operation on the phone before proceding.
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Have a great day all !
Just save any data you might need becouse the RUU will trash everything but the SD.
To use the RUU you have to connect in HTC Sync mode.
You can also get the official Gingerbread HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade from htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads .
I used that for a long time without problems.
Runnymede ROMs on Desire hardware aren't a good idea imho, you should have tried something like Cyanogenmod 7.1.
I tried Cyanogenmod for a while and I enjoyed it, but I kind of missed the HTC Layer which may be handy for linking contacts for instance, and I also like the HTC mail client since I use an ActiveSync mail account along with a gMail account.
Anyway thanks a lot for your quick answer.

If I were u, I would backup my current rom first before using the RUU. Before running the RUU, make sure HTC Sync is installed and phone could detect it in your computer. (Use a goldcard if necessary when running the RUU. )

Now there's a wonder since it's an unfinished product
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk.
The official "devs only" 2.3 it's not unfinished.
HTC couldn't push it out as a normal update becouse it has vary little room for apps... but aside from that it is as good as the 2.2.
If you're s-off, you may need to fastboot flash the downgrade.img from Alpharev to allow the hboot to be overridden by the ruu

Problems:LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3 GB Port R5 Data and lack of free space for apps

Hello everyone,
I have a HTC Desire. I installed LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.3 GB Port R5 Data and created 1GB partition EXT3. Now the system has 20 MB of free memory.
I can not install any application, since the system displays "free some space".
Why??
I using the google and found nothing.
Have many reads of the FAQ: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226017
it's really useful to help understand what's going on.

you may have read it, but i don't think you have read it enough times to understand it. sections 1 and 2 are the most useful
many people, including myself, have used that guide to install the rom completely from scratch with no prior knowledge.
when i said wrong version i meant the A2SD or data++ version of the ROM. from your info i believe you are s-off with stock hboot, but have installed the data++ version of the rom. there are sections within the FAQ which deal with this.
Ok: I think I know what the problem is - I need another version of this page hboot alpharev.nl And here I have another problem because never changed the hboot. LeeDroid previously used in version 2.5 and then it removed the s-off, and installed the recovery RA-Desire-2.0 and then the number of hboot has changed itself. So, I have a few question:
The installation of a new installation hboot is otherwise recovery? after the surgery I will have further RA-Desire-2.0 or AlphaRev? AlphaRev or during installation can damage the phone? whether this process can be reversed?
Also never installed a radio, or is it necessary?
I know a lot of questions but most importantly for me, it does not damage the phone. And sorry fom my english.
you're going to have to read the FAQ main sections a few more times

good, so at least you have made progress in understanding what went wrong.
you should have installed either:
- A2SD version on stock hboot
- data++ version on cm7r2 hboot
however you installed data++ version on stock hboot, make sense?

no, when you s-off the hboot changed to 6.93.1002. installing a new rom does not remove s-off.

Alpharev hboots are partition tables: you are aiming to change yours from stock to cm7r2

they can damage only if you flash a corrupted hboot file. therefore make sure you verify the md5 sums of the hboot img given on alpharev.nl. (search google for what md5 sums are, and then use a program called md5check)
this process can be reversed, deal with that later if/when you need to.

nobody wants to damage their phone, which is why guides like this FAQ were written in the first place. all the steps, links and troubleshooting tips are given there. the fact that i'm referencing sections out of it proves that you haven't really read or understood it.
I installed this rom a while ago, and kept reading it many many times before attempting anything, please do the same. once you do that:
- you will install everything successfully
- you'll have enough space for apps
- most importantly, hopefully you'll understand what you have actually done, and where all your apps, data and dalvik are stored...
good luck!

Ooo my God! I did not know that there is a further part of the post. I still read this page: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16808940&postcount=2
and there the last point is 1.8. I just now checked the link in your first answer.
I'm sorry, my fault. But thanks to you I know what to do next.
Now I have the last tree questions:
1. Because just now I understand the difference between A2SD+ and Data++ I'm wondering which one to choose options:
a) installation LeeDroid HD 3.3.3 GB-Port-R5 Data and AlphaRev?
b) or installation LeeDroid HD 3.3.3 GB-Port-R5 A2SD and fix Move-Dalvik-to-sdext?
What would you choose?
I read already the differences and I do not know which is better/fast
2. If I chose options (1a) and installed AlphaRev I must install LeeDroid HD 3.3.3 GB-Port-R5 Data again?
3. On the alpha site is written:
"If you downloaded Bravo Data++, please notice the /cache partition is too small to hold Radio flashes from recovery. You can however flash the radio just fine with 'fastboot flash radio radio.img'."
So, if I chose the option (1a), I must to install another radio?

you've got this far, you might as well change hboot and install data++ version, you get more space for apps. keep dalvik on nand first, then if you start to run out of space you can flash the dalvik2sd script.
(just a note, you don't 'install Alpharev', you're going to flash cm7r2 hboot)

it's just saying that if you want to flash another radio and you have cm7r2 hboot, you cannot flash it from recovery, you must change it using fastboot commands (a different topic).
read sections 2.8 and 1.4 (again...)
going round in circles a bit...but you'll get there eventually.
keep reading, i remember being a little scared of going through it all, but it all worked out fine in the end
If your radio works best bet is just leave it alone. If its relatively recent (second bit starts with _5 at least!) it'll probably be fine.

Ok guys, thank you all for your help.
I did finally everything works as it should, but I am not happy with the camera. In carrying out photo in the room, the whole picture comes out very dark, enough with the lens sees a piece of window. Horrible! Photo using the lamps are identical. There is no difference. I've noticed that a Gingerbread has the process com.android.camera.apk in version 3.0, but a Froyo has the process com.android.camera.apk in version 2.0, but version 2.0 does not work on Gingerbread (I checked). So I do not want such thing.
So now I'm looking for another ROM. I have to find one that has HTC Sense and leave in peace my Radio. I wonder whether is Android 4.0 with HTC sense on Desire.
Suggestions?
If I found nothing, today evening I'm going back to the wersion 2.5 of LeeDroid.

[Q] Problem with Sense 4.0 Port Desire VT328T & kernel 4.0.1.4

I recently helping my friend's Desire. It has a RunnymedeAIO Rom and he wanted "Sense 4.0 Port Desire VT328T V0.4".I flashed it but it just stuck in "HTC quietly brilliant".
(I used to flash Samsung Roms but I dont really understand how htc phones are flashed.)
Is there anything wrong with my step/other stuff?
Did I had the wrong kernel?
It is a stock revolutionary hboot with revolutionary kernel 4.0.1.4 Amoled Desire.
There is also a 1GB ext4 in it's sdcard
I first install the rom, then wipe data/cache/dalvik cache. After that ,reboot.
Thx a lot.
