Is it me or is the Xperia Play's touchscreen a bit weird?
Lemme try and explain this: In most apps, when trying to hit decent sized to small buttons, i have to either click below them, or hitting the hell out of them until i actually get a click...
Is it my phone only?
My touchscreen sucks, especially if my fingers arent as dry as the desert. My problem is if i hit backspace or another key on the keyboard, a few kothers go down with it

Yeah, i tend to touch the screen when i hit the buttons too...
But i'm more interested in how others find their touchscreen accuracy.

I agree, when using gmail, I press the back button and end up deleting the odd email quite often.

It looks like the software is registering our "clicks" wrong, i had a similar problem on my Nokia 5800, but it had it's own recalibration settings.
Is there a way to recalibrate our touchscreens?
Capacitive Touch Screen Don't Have Calibration, Only Resistive Touch Screen.
Then, what can we do?
Have you tried the Xperia Play Tester app? Touch and see if it's offset.
I couldn't find the xda link for the app, but here's one that looks the same on the pictures.

Mine is 100% correct, I click small links in full web pages and it registers them fine

I've see much vids of Desire but none of them reveal the capabilities of the new joystick. What are its functions, is it more close to joystick or a trackpad?
its like the trackball of the other android devices, just optical -> u can slide over it....and if u hold your finger on the optic sensor u can klick with it, somebody said in a video that u'll get hardware feedback when using the optical joy

Yeah I saw that vid. Simple swiping and clicking can be done with touch screen either. A demonstration of more precise operations is needed.

A real joystick or a real trackpad allows much more than swiping and clicking.
For example, you can hold a joystick direction to trigger autorepeat or make really fast movements without taking finger off.
it's an optical trackball, for want of a better term.
In the same way that you get optical mice as opposed to a mouse with a ball in the bottom. The optical trackpad is simply an optical version of the scroll ball... in other words, same functions as the regular scroll ball without the moving parts.

This is what I want too.
Dont want my big thumbs messing up the whole screen.
I look forward to the optical tracking system. I suppose it may be because I don't play action style games. I'm more of a puzzle/cards kind of guy. There are very few times I play phone games any how.
Actually i can't see the optical version making more sense, than the mechanical.
I personally almost never use it.
I believe its main uses would be as a hardware camera-button (that is, for taking the photo), and to scroll in text when typing.
Yep....Useless....I use my trackball about once every couple of days. Touch here and touch there is much faster... Oh wait I use it whenever I install a new ROM.. Just checking the threads trying to find something.

That's why desire is good, no trackball sticking out! Nice and small button with optical tracking ;-)
Can it be used like the N1 trackball for missed calls and sms??
Blinking lights I mean
Just to answer a couple of questions:
1) There is no notification light on the optical trackpad.
2) I've tried this with the Nesoid emulator and while it works, it's pretty terrible to use for directional control, but maybe OK for any games that require 'swiping' motions.

does the onscreen pad and buttons support multitouch? you can use dpad while pressing A for example?

Hi There,
It does support Multitouch, but it is pretty fiddly, I think because the image of the onscreen d-pad and buttons to not line up exactly on the Desire with Nesoid. I have had more luck with the multitouch using Snesoid, which feels very good! (i.e, in Super Mario All-Stars I can run and jump at the same time)
I've noticed that if i start typing very fast on my desire it stuffs up - Skipping some finger presses. I then did a test - i held down one key with one finger and tried to touch another key with another finger and noticed nothing happends.
Can others please check to see if they are also having this problem.
Thanks,
Brandon

Its not a 'problem' there just isnt a multitouch keyboard. Im not sure why this is an issue since im pretty sure that apart from the essentials like shift, Ctrl etc PC keyboards arent either!
Yep, its like that on all desires. The keyboard probably uses the same code as the older non multitouch HTC's

I think the 'issue' is that on a physical keyboard you may begin to press the second key before you fully let go of the first. On a hardware keyboard the second key press takes precedence whereas the HTC keyboard doesn't always register the second key press and you have to press it again.

you dont use a touch keyboard the same way you use a normal keyboard. and yes, they do have 'multitouch', though i wouldnt refer to it as such.
The problems that the keyboards slow and very unresponsive + the space bar often doesnt work and a few letters per sentence are skipped because theres no multitouch. And most of the reviews claimed "the multitouch keyboard found on the desire is great"
Oh well, i found a keyboard on the marketplace thats multitouch
Thanks for the quick reply guys. Good to know theres nothing wrong with my phone

I don't know if this is just me, but when I'm using an app that has multitouch enabled, such as the browser or gallery, when I open my physical keyboard it can only read one point instead of two. I verified this by using the Multitouch Visualizer 2 app from the Android market. Apparently when I have my physical keyboard open the phone will read one point like normal, but when I lay a second finger on the screen it freezes the first point and that's it. The point stays frozen until I take one finger off the screen. Does anybody else have this problem?

Not sure I follow you. With the keyboard open and I am on the internet. I can expand and squeeze what I am reading and looking at is that what you mean?
Are you using slidemeroot5r1? I think it's just a bug because multitouch doesn't work when I have the keyboard slid open either. What I do is hit the menu key or the back key and multitouch works. Just kind of have to live with it or flash a different rom.

The trick you gave me worked, but I'll probably go replace this with T-Mobile if I'm part of a small group that has experienced this problem out of the hundreds that have been sold.
So I was searching around for something that would allow me to change my screen sensitivity. And I'll tell you now this app did wonders try it out on super optimized and check start on boot and restart your phone and see the difference. Its called touch screen booster in the app store

isn't it only for Samsung Galax S up to Android 2.3.x.?
I tried it, set the sensitivity to 0.28 and the time to register a tap to 1 , and the UI really was quicker, overall it was alot snappier, it's not just a placebo... although , i the press values remained the same according to pointer location from developer's settings...
I lowered the sensitivity to 0.26 and managed to get a 0.27 press value, never succeeded before to go under 0.28. Anyways , with lower values than 0.28 and with quick swiping the ui starts to stutter.. not to mention even though the UI felt snapier on 0.28 + register tap 1 , but the sensitivity drop was bigger, and it needs now even harder press..so i ended up uninstalling the app...
I really hate the "recent apps" bug, the sensitivity drops, it's driving me crazy

For press values I wasn't able to get under 28 before or after applying the "Fix". Will keep using it over the day to see if I notice any difference.
Running the latest global beta 7.6.1 ROM just updated tonight... was same on 7.5.16 too
My Google pixel does not experience this.. It is really bad on games too - like Pixel Gun and Minecraft PE
I have similar stuff happening on 7.5.19 Xiaomi EU ROM. But it doesn't bother me.
Basically, I think the ROM gives some tolerance on how far should the initial movement has gone to unlock the pointer from the initial position. Definitely not a hardware problem.
Does anyone else have this issue? I am thinking about returning my MI6.. can anyone else take a video using the multitouch tester like me, and doing a touch and fine movement on the screen without making the circle move? please help! I really need to know if this is just the phone, or whether mine is faulty. thanks so much in advance

Actually the touch is very sensitive, just the way they decide that if you put down the finger like that, no mistouch (no movement is recorded). Whenever I play game, just push enough and move your finger and I have no problem with that (as a habit of gamers, I don't stiched my fingers on the screen that much).
Actually if you put the finger down and move it a little, it move the circle. But if you hard push for longer, slightly move don't move the circle. Hope you can sort it out.
Sent from my MI 6 using Tapatalk
That's what I have suggested to him too.
There shouldn't be a problem if you immediately move your finger upon touch. It's just if you don't move, it'll create some threshold in order to the cursor to be movable from the initial position.
Does the multitouch works good when you are not holding the phone in the hand? try putting the phone on a pilliow and try using 5 fingers on the screen with this multitouch tester app and see if it recognize all 5 fingers.
I had the nexus 7 2013 and it had that problem :/

There's actually no problems at all touching the screen. its only when I touch then drag, I need to move my finger greater than 5mm for it to recognise the finger is moving - if moving the finger slow... Watch the video I posted in first post and you understand.
In a game, for example. playing a FPS game like Minecraft - you select the block you want to remove and then you swipe your finger from that block to the next its very jerky, because the pointer does not unlock with small finger movement. takes big movement then its unlocked. once unlocked its fine - the whole time I don't lift my finger from the screen..
So its really annoying playing games - because I have to touch the screen, then swipe to unlock the pointer, then I can aim and shoot at the enemy or remove blocks in minecraft.
Some have said its the game, but you can also try with the stock launcher - going between screens of apps, you swipe left or right, it takes 5mm finger movement before the screen starts to move to the next..
I tried the inbuilt Finger touch sensor tester, and the touch and move finger 5mm is represented as 2 pixel dots - instead of a line. so something is farked up in the software. I have 2 x MI6 (bought another to test) and both seems the same... Xiaomi need to fix...
Well my Mi 6 is on the way from GearBest China and when i will get it i will install the Global Rom and will try to do this test with this app and will see if i have the same problem as you.
Purchased mine on Gearbest aswell (international rom), came with 8.0.2.0 upgradeable to 8.2.2.0, I upgraded and I have not this problem at all.
Maybe they fixed it with the latest update?

I also have Nexus 7 2013. The problem was jittery touch when you do multi-touch. It's kinda different problem.
But the case in Nexus 7 2013, it can be fixed by pushing the fix via ADB.
Same here.
But i think the developers want it.
I think it is a feature, not a bug. For better usebility.
Yes lol, a feature that we don't really want exactly like the notification light new feature which is that it only have one color - white.

I tested this, on a friends Xiaomi Rednote 4, the touch delay wasn't there as far as we could see, so it doesen't seem to a feature of MIUI, maybe it's a bug or something.
It was running MIUI 8.1 I believe.
If it is a bug, you should ask Xiaomi to fix it.
