Swapping Evos

Ok I have a rooted EVO with the 2.10 hboot. I'm considering trading with my friend who has an EVO with the for now, unrootable 2.16 hboot.....If we were to swap phones, SD cards, numbers, the whole nine.... Would my phone lose root?? Thx in advance!

since your swapping for the unrooted Evo with hboot 2.16, then yes....you will lose root. hboot 2.16 is still locked and there is no way to root it as of yet. be patient tho....there will be a rooting method out soon...you just have to give it time

No it won't unless you accept an ota etc or unroot it yourself.

correct...that will keep root...as long as your friend doesnt update with OTA
If youre on an AOSP ROM flash a Sense ROM to provision the phone (don't know about about all AOSP ROMs by Cyanogen wont let you put in ## codes or update profile to program), and flash back to whatever you want afterwards. Just don't accept the update.

Unrooted, returned to stock, to it to Sprint and they say I have basic root???

My phone wouldn't charge the last couple days so I Unrooted and returned to stock, s-on. I used a PC36IMG to return to stock. I took the phone to Sprint and somehow it started working again. They said it wasn't the charging port and it wasn't the charger or battery. I also have 2 different chargers and 2 different batteries of my own I tried. Anyways they gave me the phone back and told me to give it a couple days to see if I have any more problems, he didn't do anything but it started charging again somehow. Anyways before I left he said it is rooted still, even though I thought I Unrooted, s-on and return to stock. Superuser is not installed. How can this be possible???
PS I rooted with revolutionary

That guy was way off unless he looked at your sd card no way he could tell it was rooted

I probably should have taken it out. I didn't have any file explorers installed so I figured he wouldn't be able to

Which HBOOT do you have? If it were the Revolutionary one it may have tipped him off. Also check your SD card. I've seen them go to Market and look at purchased apps and see if root apps were bought, so don't sync with Google. Run an RUU for good measure, take put the SD card and go back

He also said to bring it back if it has any problems. I didn't think he would say that if he thinks it's rooted. Thanks man.

I have hboot 6.17.00001 S-OFF.
It doesn't say Revolutionary. I've heard of RUU a few times. What does it do?

A ruu returns you to stock as in no root and no recovery but you still.have s-off

I would just let them know that any root apps that are synced to my Google account are for a tablet at home, an older phone, or some other BS.
To my understanding; if you take the stuff off your SD card, running Stock and have S-ON, there's really no way they could prove that you were rooted.
It's all about covering your tracks.

The 6.17 hboot is what tipped him off. Stock hboot only goes up to 2.16, Revolutionary gives you a s-off'ed 6.16 hboot. Getting s-on with Revolutionary involves flashing the 6.17 hboot (which isn't stock) which is s-on. If you run the RUU for the latest update, you should get the 2.16 hboot back. You'll need it to re-run Revolutionary.

Weird.....

I noticed just now that my hboot is the 6.01.605.05 version and I'm on the .0312 radio. Weird thing is I rooted way back when my phone was still on 2.3.3. I'm still S-OFF too. I'm not too worried about it since I can still flash Roms and kernels at will.

[Q] Bootlooping before running Revolutionary

So I had already unlocked the phone using HTCDev's boot unlocker. Everything seemed fine right up until it came time in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796 to run Revolutionary. The phone is bootlooping to the point that Revolutionary can't get the root, it fails and says hit almost any key to exit.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm about to throw this thing through the window.
is it GB 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?
try flashing a newer radio
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
Do you happen to have a link to one?
crap the only place its even stable enough is at the bootloader and adb can't communicate with it. I don't know what to do. This blows.
search this forum for radios. there's a thread on dev section. and what android version were you on when you tried to root? might have to use taco root for 2.3.4 I think
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
Well, if you unlocked through HTC you have to relock in order to s-off. Not sure if you knew that.

can the update be downgraded so i can root with s-off

right now im rooted with the newest ota that came out but i cant downgrade to 2.3.3 i get an error when the file starts to parse... it will fail all the time...
I guess I'm stock on stock then

If your still s-off , can't you just reflash a superuser package? If your not, have you tried tacoroot method ?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
I'm pretty sure there are threads already posted about achieving s-off on already rooted devices. Check around.

If you are HTC Dev unlocked then you need to use the instructions to get s-off for dev unlocked. If all else fails use a different computer.
