Text to Speech - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Does anybody know a good app that does Speech to Text? I am a student that spends a lot of time traveling so would like something that I could have read to me while in the car. Similar to an audio book but just using pdf's and that type of thing.

Ez PDF reader is good. I think it costs a couple bucks but it also enables you to load PDFs directly from a URL and has decent tts which also switches pages as it reads.

Anybody know a good epub reader with an excellent interface?

I had moon reader but tried mantano recently. Both of them are good but i find mantano is very well polished. Try both of them and see what suits your taste.

Moon+ Reader has excellent page flip. Like IPad. Have to turn it on though. See options.
Aldiko is one of the best ebook reader on the play store. It doesn't have a page turn animation(just slides).
Another good reader is kindle, if you take the epub file and covert it to mobi using zamzar, then put it in the kindle folder.
I like Mantano reader. It's good for epub and PDF.
Fb reader has a lot of options

The new Aldiko UI is beautiful, but no page flipping.
Aldiko is what my GF swears by although I did notice FB reader today that has got screen lock

I think the nook app does epub exceptionally, just save the epubs in sdcard/nook/mydocuments really nice reader app and not limited to their store
And very nice page flip.

Mantano is current best for epub, works great with PDF too.

Mantano ( I have the premium version) is good for epubs. Not sure about the animations cause I never use them if it has it I would have turned it off in the initial setup and never looked back. It looks very nice and polished. Alot of sorting and viewing options for the bookshelf/ library area. You can tag books and also create collections and even sub-collections (which I LOVE :victory.
Moon+ reader is also nice. My pet peeve there is that you can't sort by date, like sort it so I see the most recently added 1st which kinda annoys me . The premium version says that it allows you to password protect the app itself. I guess that comes in handy if you are reading some questionable/embarrassing things

You should, with the latest update the page turn animation with epub files is just butter, slick and real.
Not sure if there is one for pdfs
I've tried all the readers mentioned and have bought a few, but my current favorite is moon+. its the visually most appealing, and I love its dropbox support for synced books. I also like that it gives number of pages left in chapters.

Aldiko, but like everyone else said, there isn't a page flip animation.
OK back and found a good reader called moon+reader it has loads of nice options and page turning. I am using the free version but you can also pay for a pro version.

My vote would be aldiko. I don't even like to read the books I've purchased from B&N using the nook app, aldiko there also

Just bought Mantano here, I've tried them all and this is the nicest one I've used, its fast to load, loads all the book covers quickly and it has night mode and nice cataloging features to group your books, all the rest just didn't feel right to me, thanks for the mention of Mantano as I didn't know about till this post

I tried all of the readers suggested here and none of them have a 3D page flip animation?
Is there a way to use the Google Books app to read epub files?
Moon reader has the 3d page flipping animation, at least that is what I see in the pro version.

What do you use your phone for...

Lately all I use my phone for is open xda facebook messaging and couple of phone calls. All these tasks can be done even by a 3 yrs old htc inspire...what is your opinion? Anybody feels you do not need such an advanced phone cuz all u do is some browsing and phone calls?
Same here but my reason to buy a phone is for benchmarks ... it fills the void knowing that I have no friends to text ...

I text, send the occasional call, check the weather and Facebook, use pulse to catch up on mobile and real world news, browse the Internet, I have around fifteen games on my phone that either currently play or have played through, I take pictures, listen to my music collection, stream pandora, use my Google Calendar and Gmail, and check up on the occasional XDA thread! So yeah, I'm happy I have all this horsepower and whatnot haha But different strokes for different folks!

- boxing timer when at gym
- email
- Google Voice for Craigslist purchases
- news (Flipboard)
- printing (HP Home & Biz)

- Reddit (before sleeping)
Storm Chasing!!!
And a host of other stuff as well!

I use it to check the facemachine once a week and read from xda once every couple days. I text more then call in my personal life and call guys I work with a lot at work, my work phone sucks and is slow so I use the personal for everything but calling customers (cable guy). I think most of my time is spent just reading the BBC and other news or googling somthing. Occasionally I'll put something on netflix or spotify when I'm in the garage working on something. I guess it's unnecessary for me to have all the power and Ubuntu installed on it but I dig it. Makes up for my lack of manhood the same as people who buy ridiculous things like 200bhp lawnmowers and AR15's with night vision scopes for deer hunting.

Texting, which I used to do for free on gvoice and now pay $60 a month for... Maps so I don't have to ask for directions. Car data logging. Taking pictures. Looking up sports scores.

I'm a pharmacist and use my phone at work a lot for quick access to drug information and whatnot. Theres a lot of great apps and carrying a phone is way easier than carrying a textbook
All kinds of stuff. I take full usage of my data plan....and plan in general. I average around 4-5 hours per day on-screen time. So yeah, a lot!

Check email, watch videos, text, accept credit card payments, make calls, show times, check sport scores, navigation, play games, listen to music, video chat, take photos, check weather, language translator, Facebook, note taking, barcode scanning, remote desktop, eBay, caller id faker, manage bank account, pandora . Lists goes on and on.
I sell cell phone accessories at the swap meets so the galaxy 3 comes in real handy. I go to phonescoop and androidcentral to see what phones are coming out. I already have cases for the iPad mini and I touch 5.

SGS2 Video Editor app

I like the stock video editor from Galaxy S II and I was wondering is there any way to bring that to Note II. I try bringing it back from titanium backup but it got fc. I would appreciate if someone could help me with that.
I've been looking around all day for a good video editor. The one from the Note 1 supposedly FC's, and it's nowhere to be found on here either.
Have you had any luck finding an alternative?
No. So I'm just using my s2 for video editing this days

Meh. I work on music videos on the go on my phone, just for the project's sake. I used to do it fine on my iPhone, I really wish there was an Android equivalent considering the GN2 is an epic phone.
Music videos like adding music to existing clips?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I sort of film music videos on the go, often slowing clips down, transitioning them, adding effects or adjusting color occasionally, adding in identity text in the beginning, or mixing a secondary audio track with a clip's audio.
That sounds cool. I'd like to learn how to do some of that since it really interest me.. let me know if you find a somewhat decent app for it.

Ah definitely, unfortunately Android is suffering a whole lot with the video editing department, almost makes me wish i had a (gasp) damn ipod touch or something.

PDF reader with a good pdf selection interface

Hey
I am looking for an app with a pdf selection like the play magazine app or something other. I am tired of book cases
Thanks
"Or something other", in that case Mantano Ebook reader (premium). The best one that i've come across so far

I just checked out that app. Its very smooth. I hate stutter when flipping through pages. The iPad excels with PDFs and epub files. Annotation with Mantano requires the paid version though.

Oh, I've been using the premium version far too long to remember that. The only downside with Mantano is the price I guess.

I don't care about price. I like to help out development of apps by contributing to the Dev. $7 could be wasted on something else, so why not an app that I like?

Most of my time in nexus 7 is spent on reading and annotating PDF files. There is unfortunately no single PDF solution. My favorite is ezpdf reader. Lots of options for editing PDF files. I also use repligo and iannotate . must say most are not free.

Until that time, iAnnotate is the best in my opinion, it's free.
Of course ezpdf reader is the best.

Google currents alternative

Since currents got taken down and replaced by new stand are there any alternatives out there that are similar to currents? I liked how it sorts your subscription by categories and you can access the categories by swiping in from the left and once in a category if you swipe from the right you can access different subscriptions... Anything out there that does this?

im another looking for a Currents replacement. I loved Currents it was perfect for what i want! I have tried, Feedly, Greader, Flipbook, rss reader, they all suck! I just want something that looks good and more importantly allows me to categorize my feeds! none of them let me do this.. If i want to read about android stuff i go to my android feeds, if i want car, i car to all my car feeds etc.. Will have a look at 360 too.. hepe its good.
