i have a death grip issue with my g2 it drops wifi signals when i hold it from the top.
second it has a poor range of wifi.
WiFi antenna is about two-thirds up at the back, so it's entirely possible to reduce the signal by holding it in a certain way.

wifi signals drop alot the connectivity is very poor so is range any way to improve it?
sry for bad eng bcuz its not my first lang thx
You could try flashing a different radio to see if it helps your WiFi, but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for that.
Where is the WiFi bad for you, e.g. at home ? Is the real problem that the WiFi signal is poor for most devices where you are trying to use it, not just your phone ?
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
yea at home and all of other devices works fine...i downloaded a radio recently but nothing happened
I know exactly what you're talking about, while typing on physical keyboard unless you grip it more with fingers wifi will decrease sadly from antenna location. AFAIK there is no fix (save for MAYBE opening it up and moving/extending it? Just a thought)

i just bought my desire hd and currently root..
im using Android Revolution HD 3.6 by mike1986 with his recommended radio 26.06.03.24_M2
compared to my previous HTC HD2..i usually get high strength on wifi signal usually like 3-4bars..(3-4 meter from wifi router)
my desire hd just recieved signal for just about 1 or 2 bar(similar 3-4 meter from wifi router)..and sometimes i also disconnected automatically due to limited signal
tried to change other ROM particularly RCMix Gingerbread..(but havent try changing radio yet though) but still the wifi signal is rather low
whats the problem with my phone?? Is there possiblity that my desire hd hardware is bulsyht that cause the problem? or izit somthing else? Izit the radio..to my knowledge radio is just connected to the mobile cellular network signal from provider right? Or is my assumption wrong??
Need ur guyz help ..search all over the forum..but cant find anyone else with similar problem..

the battery cover of desire hd is actualy an antenna for the wifi.. take it off and ul see gold plates left cover... try not to hold ur phone in left hand while on wifi.. or cover the area above battery cover. see if that helps.. helped me..
whoa..u r totally right!!..haha
damn it..im using rubber protective cover..no wonder my signal is quite low..
>< now i see 1 clear bulshyt disadvantages of desire hd....haha..
nvm still loving my desire hd ^^
P/S: whats the best solution anyway to protect ur phone without affecting ur wifi signal..i intend to use protective cover ..dun wanna my phone scrathing all over the place..got some scratch alredy though ><
and is there anyway to improve the signal btter?
I took a simple cover from ebay where I put my DHD in while having it in my pocket.
So it's not permanent covered by anything, just while it is in my pocket.
The DHD WIFI antenna is pretty bad.
My friends Xperia X8 (mid-range droid) got a 2 bar signal, while mine didn't even detect it, even with multiple tries and holding my phone upward and exposing the cover like an idiot

be near the wifi router... because then the reception isnt affected even if the cover is covered..
I can't seem to get a decent wifi signal unless i'm actually standing near the router (and even then it's 2 bars at most). I doubt it's the router (cisco linksys e2000) since my iphone and pc have no trouble staying connected while being further away. I remember having a better connection when i was using the stock rom (cm7.3 atm) so i'm guessing there's something i need to fix but im not really sure what's wrong and was hoping someone could drop some knowledge on me.

Hi there, This issue can be caused by a mismatched ROM and radio, each radio and ROM work together with a specific RIL (radio interface library) which can be flashed through recovery or CWM. You may find that the recommended radio for your ROM and the correct RIL could solve your problems.
The wifi signal on DHD is poor while comparing to other phones, I wish that we could modify its strenght.
Through a wooden wall and about 4-5 metres away the signal is around 65dBm, which is ok, but as soon as I move slightly so the the signal is going throught diagonally it drops to 80dBm instantly. That's only moving very slightly.
In my sig you can see what I'm using and so far that's the best combo I've found for a decent signal.

Since receiving the 1.29 builds (.11 this morning) I've noticed the One X's wifi performance to be seriously sub-par. My home Wifi AP (a Cisco WAP4410N) is in the next room to me and yet the Wifi indicator on the One X status bar shows only the dot (no bars) and Wifi Analyzer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en) shows a signal strength of about -90 dBm (very close to disconnecting). My Galaxy Nexus by comparison (placed beside the One X) shows between -50 dBm and -60 dBm... (my iPhone 4 never drops below two bars and seems to hold a strong signal wherever I go in the house).
Is this similar to others experience? Something's seriously at fault here, it's so bad I'm thinking of switching back to the Galaxy Nexus...

Same here - got 129.401.11 this morning and wifi indicator now seems 2 bars less than before the update. In fact wifi has now totally dropped off despite my netbook having 4 bars in the same place.
Is it possible to rollback out of this update as I was having no issues before the update?
I've had a hox from 3 since day one. The original 3 software had this bug, the updated 3 software had this bug and now I'm on the latest Arhd 6.0 wifi is slightly improved but still much worse than my wife's gnex my pc and our laptop.
Really hope HTC can fix this with software and soon

Try factory reset, AFTER BACKING UP STORAGE DATA, and all media in it.
It fixed for me.

Hi - does settings-privacy-"backup my settings" and "automatic restore" keep all my settings, including the general phone settings and app settings?
I've never done a factory reset on a HTC and don't want to root so Titanium backup isn't an option. Thanks.
I've had the same issue with mine since day 1 with no real improvement through ROM upgrades. I tried the same test with my Asus Transformer side by side with the One X and from about 5 meters from the router but still in direct view of it I got -50dbm on the TF and -90dbm on the HOX
I also get times when the the radio won't reconnect after losing signal requiring the Aircraft mode switch to reset the radio.
All very sub standard and now really wish I'd got an unbranded phone so I could get latest OTA's

Yes, tried that numerous times. Most of the times it was on Best Wifi, but didn't help.
Yes, I had best wi-fi on before and still have it enabled but it still seems to be a fair bit worse after this s/w upgrade.
I have the same problem last week after my 1.29 update, what i did was to switched my wifi router off and after a few seconds switched it on again, after i did that, i got a full bar again, hope this help.
The problem I'm seeing is that the wifi seems really erratic - it can show full bars or no bars with the phone in the same place and Wifi-Analyzer shows the signal to be weaker than I'd expect and compared to other devices in the same location.
All you have to do to make wifi better after update is factory reset works perfect

I'm doubtful. It seems it's hardware related.
Try squeezing the back top left of the phone and watch the wifi improve before your eyes.
A loose connection seems the most likely fault. It's send back time I'm afraid

Same here. Signal strength improves dramatically when gentle pressure is applied on the top left then drops away completely when released before returning to a weak signal state. Not something that a software update will resolve. Disappointed to have to return this otherwise flawless phone.
these days i use at the same time my wonder and my old trusty Nokia 5800 and I noticed a huge difference in reception, signal handling and sound quality during a call, all in favor of nokia ...
same position, same operator TIM, same sim 64k (also reversed does not change)
quality audio call 5800: warm and it feels like the wired home phone
quality audio call wonder: audio a little low
Reception 5800: superlative
Receive wonder: not excellent
switches 2G-3G-GSM: where I work there are areas where the 3G signal is weak, that I sometimes wonder if the telephone or going on that I can not make the call, or if they are sometimes called line is dropped, I see the signal bar delm zero and after 2 seconds to return to the max but in GSM, something that never happens with nokia, switcha but communication never falls ...

yes, you can do that..
what ROM you use now??
if you on GB ROM, just follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658809
but if you on ICS/CM9 ROM, i doubt you can use the method above since there still a bug in download mode on ICS/CM9 ROM.
i use stock rom
which baseband is better?
now i use xxmlb
Baseband was dependant on your country region actually.
You can check it on www.samfirmware.com for the best baseband of your country region.
And be sure to use the latest updates okay..
You still on stock?? Great, then you good to go with the method i think..:beer:

I have the same problem - very bad reception even in the middle of the city. I have tried about 5 different stock roms, no difference. I am thinking maybe its some other problem than firmware?

Maybe the problem with the hardware. I also have this problem. I compared to my Nokia and the result was Nokia is the best for receiving signal GSM. For me, even I have 3 bars signal, I cannot connect to EDGE connection while my Nokia can. But when I change to 3G, my wonder can connect to Internet. I came to think that the receiver is not good enough. I have installed many cusrom and stockrom but nothing changed.

I figured out my problem - I had messed with the external antenna connector (the thing in the lower right corner under the battery cover). Apparently this causes the internal antenna to disconnect. Same thing in the case of Galaxy S is discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273292
If you have touched that thing then you might have the same thing causing your problem.
---------- Post added at 01:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:48 AM ----------
A quick way to test this would be to stick a piece of thing wire into the connector and see what it does to your signal. In my case I can see the signal strength jump up immediately.
Of course, that might again mess up the connector even more...
Something happened to my mobile phone. WiFi works pretty weird, I have a router with stronger antenna in my home, every single device works great with it (Pentagram Cerberus), gets stable connection even 20 meters away from it. My HTC worked OK (however the signal was very poor too) till now. At the moment it can't even find any WiFi networks while it should at least 2 (mine and neighbour's). It finds my rounter only sometimes (not everytime), when the phone is 10 cm away from the antenna at max (!!!).
What is the cause?

It could be deterioration over time. The desire is a pretty old phone, and its wifi antenna isn't as good as new.

do you inspect what are you saying?
1) router settings has been changed, like N standard, HTC Sense sometimes do not like it
2) update RADIO/clean the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277365
3) the antenna is broken
I had the same problem. My wifi antenna wore off, and I couldn't find any WI-FI further than 1m. After I replaced it, everything was fine.

Hey, thanks for your post.
1. It's all the time set to 802.11b+g in my router, it worked quite fine before but the signal was poor too (not as poor as it is now).
2. I've got the newest radio version, about the cleaning, will do in a day or two, thanks!
3. Is the antenna removable so I could buy a new one somewhere? How does it look like?

1. with b+g my Desire is not connecting, try Mixed mode or G mode with Channel 20Mhz.
2. then check what happens when you connect to Free wi-fi or friend router.
3. i don't think that antenna is wrong, but http://www.formymobile.co.uk/desiredisassembly.php#.UmYabBCDpD8 (4 step probably may be antenna)
I managed to semi-fix my issue, the pins were unable to connect with WiFi antenna. There's also another side of this - MW5 seems to have the crappiest WiFi signal ever, tried other ROMs and the signal is much better on them, however I like MW5 much. I guess this caused by MW5's kernel - 2.6.35.14-cox-oxy - could you propose me any good replacement for it? I guess thalamus ones will do the trick but can't find them anywhere (official site does not work for me).
