i just bought my desire hd and currently root..
im using Android Revolution HD 3.6 by mike1986 with his recommended radio 26.06.03.24_M2
compared to my previous HTC HD2..i usually get high strength on wifi signal usually like 3-4bars..(3-4 meter from wifi router)
my desire hd just recieved signal for just about 1 or 2 bar(similar 3-4 meter from wifi router)..and sometimes i also disconnected automatically due to limited signal
tried to change other ROM particularly RCMix Gingerbread..(but havent try changing radio yet though) but still the wifi signal is rather low
whats the problem with my phone?? Is there possiblity that my desire hd hardware is bulsyht that cause the problem? or izit somthing else? Izit the radio..to my knowledge radio is just connected to the mobile cellular network signal from provider right? Or is my assumption wrong??
Need ur guyz help ..search all over the forum..but cant find anyone else with similar problem..

the battery cover of desire hd is actualy an antenna for the wifi.. take it off and ul see gold plates left cover... try not to hold ur phone in left hand while on wifi.. or cover the area above battery cover. see if that helps.. helped me..
whoa..u r totally right!!..haha
damn it..im using rubber protective cover..no wonder my signal is quite low..
>< now i see 1 clear bulshyt disadvantages of desire hd....haha..
nvm still loving my desire hd ^^
P/S: whats the best solution anyway to protect ur phone without affecting ur wifi signal..i intend to use protective cover ..dun wanna my phone scrathing all over the place..got some scratch alredy though ><
and is there anyway to improve the signal btter?
I took a simple cover from ebay where I put my DHD in while having it in my pocket.
So it's not permanent covered by anything, just while it is in my pocket.
The DHD WIFI antenna is pretty bad.
My friends Xperia X8 (mid-range droid) got a 2 bar signal, while mine didn't even detect it, even with multiple tries and holding my phone upward and exposing the cover like an idiot

My almost brand new Desire HD just can't locate me sometimes, despite having fix on 8-10 satellites.
I use GSP Status, A-GPS is on.
One day it locate me in a few seconds, and on the other day it takes 10 minutes, sometimes even more.
Just before I wrote this post, I've reset my A-GPS data, downloaded new and went out to try it. I was walking for 5 minutes and I've got fix on satellites, with good signal strength. So I've switched of the phone, reset A-GPS, download again and still can't get location.
My brother with his HD2 has no problem getting location.
Do you think that I should contact HTC???
thanks
its normal...it all depends how fast the sat..communicates with dhd... i too have same issue...but it is place specific issue not dhd... enjoy man
My one tends to behave like that too. There are many environmental factors that affect the signal of the satellites seen. Also I find that if one app gets a GPS fix, switching to other apps seems not to pickup the coordinates from previous fix.

Mine is faulty too...!
Yes I say faulty, becource my sonyericsson x10 ALWAYS get a lock on the location within 10 sec...
Even when I compare them side by side, the x10 works MUTCH better...
By a 10:1 factor or so...
And it is also mutch more accurate when it is locked on to the gps...
Also about 10:1...
Htc make fine phones, not so mutch gps...
I had a thread about this, here a few days back...

A longshot, but would plugging in headphones help increase GPS signal? I always wondered whether they could make such a mechanism for even boosting the 2G/3G/Wifi signal. Given they've already exploited this for FM antenna...

My gps locks in 3secs in my back garden with only 5 satellites turn satellite layer on and it shows location it back garden not the nearest road SO IT'S NOT FAULTY IT'S NOT THE HARDWARE. It's the silly gps apps you using you don't need them just turn on gps open Google maps that's it the only gps app I use is gps toolbox for calibration that's it as for comparing to the x10 haha a great phone NOT
From England with leedroid dhd techo!
Just reboot your phone, make sure your in the car or clear view of the sky and try again.

Probably wont work as the antenna for GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth is under the battery cover.

No the x10 is not great in any way, actually it is stupidley bad, BUT the one thing that works better is the gps...

Are you shure that the gps antenna is there ?
I have tried to remove the two covers on the phone and didn't see any difference in the gps signal...
But I have been thinking about why there is terminals on both covers...
- any one know for shure ?

Well, I'm not too sure where the GPS receiver is located, but I'm definitely sure that the GSM antenna is under the SIM cover and the WiFi/BT antenna is below the battery cover.
The GPS antenna is in the plastic cover surrounding the flash LEDs.

I've tried to get a lock on DHD and HD2 phone by phone and HD2 got lock in a few seconds and my DHD just couldn't. So it's not place issue.
I can't seem to get a decent wifi signal unless i'm actually standing near the router (and even then it's 2 bars at most). I doubt it's the router (cisco linksys e2000) since my iphone and pc have no trouble staying connected while being further away. I remember having a better connection when i was using the stock rom (cm7.3 atm) so i'm guessing there's something i need to fix but im not really sure what's wrong and was hoping someone could drop some knowledge on me.

Hi there, This issue can be caused by a mismatched ROM and radio, each radio and ROM work together with a specific RIL (radio interface library) which can be flashed through recovery or CWM. You may find that the recommended radio for your ROM and the correct RIL could solve your problems.
The wifi signal on DHD is poor while comparing to other phones, I wish that we could modify its strenght.
Through a wooden wall and about 4-5 metres away the signal is around 65dBm, which is ok, but as soon as I move slightly so the the signal is going throught diagonally it drops to 80dBm instantly. That's only moving very slightly.
In my sig you can see what I'm using and so far that's the best combo I've found for a decent signal.

I've noticed something with my Gnex GSM version, the phone at times loses the signal completely and to appear again I have to wait a great time and sometimes I have to restart the phone to return to have a sign, to any of you has this happened???

ma phone is stock
I haven't seen the same issues. In fact, the GSM Galaxy Nexus has had the best reception of any phone I've had in the last couple years. Are you in a weak signal area? Which baseband version are you on?
i have a death grip issue with my g2 it drops wifi signals when i hold it from the top.
second it has a poor range of wifi.
WiFi antenna is about two-thirds up at the back, so it's entirely possible to reduce the signal by holding it in a certain way.

wifi signals drop alot the connectivity is very poor so is range any way to improve it?
sry for bad eng bcuz its not my first lang thx
You could try flashing a different radio to see if it helps your WiFi, but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for that.
Where is the WiFi bad for you, e.g. at home ? Is the real problem that the WiFi signal is poor for most devices where you are trying to use it, not just your phone ?
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
yea at home and all of other devices works fine...i downloaded a radio recently but nothing happened
I know exactly what you're talking about, while typing on physical keyboard unless you grip it more with fingers wifi will decrease sadly from antenna location. AFAIK there is no fix (save for MAYBE opening it up and moving/extending it? Just a thought)
I just got a new One X (well it was a used one ) but I have one big problem - wireless is not really working... It connects but the signal strength is not very great (sometimes only the "Bottom" of the signal bar is white and the bars are all greyed out). Sometimes even on full signal I have a speed from 250 kb/s and pages are not loading. But 1 minute later I have a speed of 11 MB/s (wich is the fastest speed I can get here)... Its very frustrating while watching youtube videos or using WhatsApp...
Is there a RADIO Upgrade for One X? Or should I sent it to costumer Support? Or is there anything I can do?
I am using the ViperX ROM and have a SpeedPort W701V Router from T-Mobile (Germany)
Thanks
Robin
Well there can be 3 options
1: you can try different settings/channels on the router
2: you are on the 3.18 base of the viper x .... the base has WiFi issues with alot of people. No real solution for that atm (HTC fault)
3: you have a faulty WiFi module, early builds of the HTC one X can experience it. Its hardware related
tried different router already - didnt help. Also tried other ROM - didnt help either...
Well, hardware fault I think.. :/ what can I do? self repair? (without soildering I hope )
I dont repair phones so thats out of my league
In case of option 3, take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
