Tethering (even paid tethering) not working - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I have the tethering option on my account. This was working at one time (though I am not sure the last time it worked). I flashed over to the CM9 kang in the development section from stock (after wiping system/data/cache/dalvik cache) and noticed that it did not work. After this, I tried GummyNex, which also didn't work. So, I restored from my nandroid backup and it doesn't work from the stock rom anymore either. What gives?
I have tried on two different laptops, as well. It will reject the password about 75% of the time, and sometimes it will claim to connect, but will not get internet access.
Anyone have any ideas?

Return your phone. If its doing it on every rom it sounds like hardware. Just my thoughts.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

Try restoring one of the images from google. I wish I had a link but I am sure there is a restore thread in the CDMA forum.

Maybe your data is just dropping.. it's not a defective phone..

[Q] Can't setup ActiveSync

Hi, just got my Epic Touch, coming from the Epic 4G.
Every time I try to setup my Exchange email, I get the error:
Setup Could Not Finish
Activation Failed. Unable to connect to network. Try again with the network provider's default APN.
Same error 3G, 4G, or WiFi. I didn't think CDMA phones even had APN's?
Found some related stuff: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098806&page=4
No solution that works. Spent 2 hours on the phone with Sprint, who were very nice, but had no solution. They are checking with higher ups and Samsung.
I don't have a lot of hope here, may be taking this phone back tomorrow when my insurance replacement arrives.
Thanks for any help you might have!
I've been getting the SAME error today.
I've been getting the same error since yesterday after flashing StarBurst 1.6. Having thought that was the problem I reverted back to the stock ROM and am still having the same issue.
I was on the phone with sprint for 45 minutes and they recommended I go to a retail store to have it diagnosed.
Other users in the Starburst Dev thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18480495&postcount=2067) reported similar issues and some were able to fix it by restoring app + data for Email 3.0.0.1. Trouble is I don't have a backup of this, so if anyone could be so kind as to provide that, it would be much appreciated.
Call Sprint

Have you rooted your phone or installed a custom ROM, or is this a brand new untouched device?
same exact problem here. started occuring after i flashed starburst 1.6
Are you guys all running rooted and alternative roms? I am and had the same issue last night. I deleted the email app and cache and the restored it from a previously made titanium backup of the email app. I only restored the app. Then I went back and restored the data. Doing app and data at the same time did not work for me. I am currently pushing two exchange accounts a 2 gmail accounts. Working fine for me.

I am currently running [ACS][Odin]Completely Stock EG30 with the EG30Plus Kernel. I came from StarBurst 1.6, however removed it immediately because Active Sync wasn't working for me and I thought that ROM was causing the problem. I did not make any backups of the email app or data prior to flashing this ROM so I do not have anything to restore from.
Oh, and if it helps.. I am pushing a gmail account with no problem.
Would it be possible for you to make a backup of this so we I try restoring it? It sounds to me like that is what the solution is..
I would post the apk or the TBackup but I am unsure where the email accounts are stored. I don't want to give a bunch of people my email accounts.
I suspect that when they built that rom they based it off a GSM Galaxy S2 and they forgot to switch out the email client. APN is require for a GSM phone to access the network. Check back with the Rom Dev.
Maybe some one can pull the email.apk from the unmolested stock image thats posted in the developers section.

That makes complete sense! I know it's a bit much to ask, but would you be willing to remove your email accounts temporarily and make a separate backup of the email.apk? I can PM you with my work credentials to set up an account with if that would help.
I'd be very appreciative as I need Exchange on my phone for work. I'm on the verge of going back to my Palm Pre until I get this resolved!
I was doing some playing around, sorry but the apk from the back up has the same issue. It's the restoring of the data that fixes it. Even after the data has been restored, I can delete the email accounts and manual recreate them and they work fine.
Darn! had it working, but not sure how...
Hi guys,
I have been battling the "Activation Failed: unable to connect to network" problem on my Epic 4G Touch (SGS2) since last night (after flashing starburst 1.6).
I was excited that I got exchange to work again after formatting system, data, cache, then wiping factory data and dalvik, then reflashing starburst 1.6.
I got some voicemail errors, so i decided to try and re-flash again, and also to see if exchange would still work. After re-flashing the same way, Exchange doesnt work anymore. I repeated again just to be sure and still didnt work.
I guess I dont know how i got the exchange active sync problem to go away the first time. Maybe it was just dumb luck.

I PM'd PhantomHacker and he told me that it is a known issue with this ROM and it will be fixed. I was able to get things working again by flashing [ACS][Base Rom]Stock Rooted Odex & Deodex until the mail application in StarBurst is functional again. I haven't tried it, but you may have luck using the StarBurst Minimal AOSPmod that was released last night since it has the AOSP Email client on it.
ok, got it working again.
Hi again,
OK, I just got it to work again, and it wasn't all the fancy reflashing that fixed it.
I have re-flashed several times to try and fix this problem and I noticed that after reflashing, my security pin is still active from my previous flash. I remembered that i had removed the pin before flashing the first time also.
I went into Settings -> Location and Security -> Change screen lock -> none. Then I was able to setup Exchange active-sync without getting the error.
I hope this works for others!
My voicemail problems I mentioned (error V30) went away by itself after about 30 minutes.

Kindle 6.3 Broken Wi-Fi

I recently came from ICS, and having issues with wi-fi there. So I went back to stock, hoping my issues would be resolved. Awesome. They aren't!
Wi-Fi doesn't work. I have/had hashcode's latest kernel flashed. I don't know what to do. Any ideas? D:
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!
How are you wiping when you flash roms? Maybe you have messed up how your kindle connects to wireless . There has been a Mac address issue with the new kernel maybe yours never reverted when you went back to stock. Have you tried other networks? Have you done a factory restore? Do you mean pure stock not rooted?

I wipe ; Factory Reset, System, Dalvik-Cache, Cache
And basically when I go to TURN-ON Wireless, no networks show. It doesn't even fully turn it on, it gets stuck in the middle of turning on the Wi-fi.
I went back PURE stock, NO ROOT. However, it seems I may have need of getting ROOT back. :/
I'm still curious if you performed a factory restore when you returned it to stock. I suppose your case could be that something burned out the wifi adaptor of the kindle although I bet its rare but not completely unreasonable. After a new clean flash when you reroot we will see those results ?
Probably totally unrelated, but have you ever had the locate-my-kindle software installed? I got similar weird behavior after a while when using that... first wifi networks were slow to come up, then it would struggle to turn on wifi, finally it'd just give an error and crash the settings manager or whatever it's called. I had to get rid of the software. Basically it was storing every single wifi network it ever came in contact with, even for just a second, and having too many entries hosed wifi. Uninstalling it seemed to clear those extra entries and restore functionality.
I do know that restoring your account from Google to your device and letting them keep copies of your wifi passwords can also cause issues although when I was testing roms for some devs on my droidx with known wifi issues ñot allow the Google restore and backup caused similar problems.

My 3G/4G data does not work when no wifi connection, but only on some roms.

My post was: I just installed JBSourceryV2.0-LTE on Verizon Nexus and now have no data/4G bars/connectivity at all. I did a full data/cache/dalvik wipe before installing JBSourceryV2.0-LTE.zip and then gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip. I have flashed several ROMs before and haven't had this issue. I have seen the white bars change from 3 to 4 a few times, but no data/4g connect. Calls and texts work, but web browsing and Play store do not. The blue bars mean no sync to Google? What am I missing? Turned off wifi and lost the blue bars. it seems I can only get the blue bars when wifi is connected. What's going on?
-----
So now I have seen the same thing on BAMF Paradigm and Dark ParanoidAndroid and Codename Android (all latest versions), but I have no problems using Eclipse. It's obviously something on my phone, but why does it work with Eclipse, nut not the others? What do they do that Eclipse doesn't (or vis versa)?

Yes, it's on. Toggled it on and off a few times to make sure.
I've also installed the latest radios and same thing. I guess I can do a complete wipe and see what happens.
OK, I reset my phone back to original using ...
"[TOOL] One click back to stock 4.0.4 for warranty/repairs"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743939
After that, the 4g data worked like it should.
So I re-rooted it using ...
[GNex TOOLKIT V7.8]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400871
and after that the same thing happened again, only white 4g bars unless wifi was connected.
Then I re-installed the Eclipse b15 rom that worked before (my backup was corrupt) and now it's doing it too, where before it worked. I have now installed at least 4 different roms and same thing happens ... 4 white 4g bars until I connect wifi then the 4bars go blue, while it's just white bars I have no data connectivity (web, play store, etc), but I can make calls and text.
Any ideas from anyone please would be greatly appreciated. Please.
Also, I've had this phone for about 3-4 months and have been putting ROMs on it ever since with no problems. This started about 2-3 weeks ago and, of course, I don't know what I would have done around that time that would have caused it. I don't remember doing anything that I don't usually do when rooting and installing ROMs.
Surely the unlocking, rooting, etc. must change something that effects the radios or something. I have searched for others with similar problems and cannot find a solution. Obviously it's not a common problem, but for some reason it is happening to my phone. It's got to be software because it works when at factory defaults.
No suggestions? Please... I've been rooting and applying ROMs since the Incredible came out, but I'm not a dev, I just can't figure this out. If you think I'm just not looking hard enough, then point me in a direction and I'll look.
Well, the weirdness continues. On my new warranty replacement phone I get 4g stock after using GNex Toolkit option 8 (unlock, root, rename, cwm, busybox all at once). But when I try JBsourcery or Eclipse, same old thing, no 4g!! I have rooted and ROMd my Incredible and my X2 probably 40 times each at least and never had any issues, there just isn't that much too it, so I don't see what can go wrong. I know since it's still happening on another phone it seems like I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
Here is my process for my Nexus (from stock 4.0.4):
-GNex Toolkit option 8 (unlock, root, rename, cwm, busybox all at once)
-Setup newly rooted stock with my gmail acct info, verify it has 4g data.
-Copy over some ROM and gapps .zip files
-Reboot in to recovery
-Wipe data, cache & dalvik
-Install ROM
-Install it's gapps
-Reboot
-Skip gmail setup because I don't have 4g (don't want to use wireless because that's not the point, but even after I do, 4g doesn't work)
-... and no 4g data
I wait for 15 minutes, I check and uncheck airplane mode, I pull the sim card and reboot... nothing.
Just this morning I did the above process and tried the following ROMS and still get no 4g.
http://teamsourcery.com/ICSourcery/gnex/releases/JB/2.3/LTE/JBSourceryV2.3LTE.zip

http://eclipserom.com/mods/click.php?id=173 --> gapps-4.1.1-Eclipse0910.zip
I have tried it with LTE-FC05 / CDMA-FC04 and I have tried it with LTE-FG02 / CDMA-FF02. I have even gone backwards radio-wise just to see if that changed anything, it didn't. Right now I can only get 4g data with stock 4.1.1 (4.0.4 too) unlocked, rooted, etc. Any time I install a ICS or JB ROM, the 4g doesn't work. I just really am at a loss. It sucks because I like changing ROMs like 1-2 times a week. *sigh*
So what is the difference, radio-wise, between stock and most ROMs?
Are there any logs I can look at that might point me in the right direction?

[Q] Data Connection Issues

Before I start let me explain I've searched for the answer to this and have yet to find any concrete answers. I've had my Verizon G'Nex since release and had it rooted before Best Buy had even run my credit card. I've been running SlimKat 4.4.2 Build 5 official and CWM Touch. Ever since I updated the ROM (clean flash) to the 4.4.4 experimental I've had problems with both 3G and LTE connecting to data. I have signal, in some cases "4 bars" worth, but it never actually connects to data unless I reboot the phone - that will last for a couple hours to a couple days then it's back to no data. I completely wiped the phone - data, cache, system, and sdcard...everything that CWM could possibly let you wipe - and then sideloaded the previously stated Slimkat which worked for months prior without issue. The problem still persists, and has gotten worse. I cannot use LTE at all. It will not connect regardless of what I do.
So my question here is what parts of Android affect data connection? Is this entirely ROM dependent, or does kernel have something to do with it? I'd rather not go through the trouble of finding another ROM that has speed and features of SlimKat, or randomly flashing kernels just to find it doing the same thing.

Well in not sure about this option being in your version of cwm.
However if it has wipe efs data as an option and you wiped it nothing that you do to try and fix your connections will work.
I found this out the hard way and had to buy a new gnex. Tried everything but couldn't get my efs data back.

No option about EFS. That's the thing that bothers me. I have voice and text, it can 'see' towers, it appears to be able to 'connect' to towers, but it's like it's not pulling an IP address or it can't contact DNS.

[Q] SlimKat 4.4.4 and WiFi Reconnect issue

First, I've had this issue since Build 6.8. I was hoping a Clean Install using Philz Touch Recovery v6.48.4, which is the latest, and selected Wipe Data and select Clean to install new ROM which Formats /data, /cache, /system. I also wiped Dalvik.
Once completed I did the following:
Clean Install of Slim-d2lte-4.4.4.build.7.0-OFFICIAL-5979
I then installed
Slim_full_gapps.BETA.4.4.4.build.7.x-190
Rebooted and waited for SlimKat to boot-up. WiFi/Data both full scale. Everything Restored just fine and things are running smooth.
Then after running a few errands outside of WiFi Range, I returned home within WiFi range only to find out that WiFi had not reconnected. It tells a WiFi connection is available but will not reconnect to it. So I go into Setting and select WiFi and tried to manually reconnect. It says connecting and then goes back to Saved Connection without connecting. This same thing on other WiFi connections such as McDonald's or other open WiFi Connections.
I then do a re-boot and everything is back to normal. WiFi connects without issue and again things are fine and running smooth.
Every time I leave WiFi range and then return within WiFi range, the problem re-occurs. A Re-Boot and everything back to normal.
One thing I've always noticed when doing a Clean Install as stated above, all of my previously stored WiFi connection are still there. Same on Ringtone/Notification Tones.
With the problem I'm having, could it be something that is not being wiped/cleared out during the Clean Install process. Or wondering if it could be somehow that the WiFi Radio has gotten corrupted.
I have also tried different Kernels but again the result is the same.
Hope this is not too much of a noob question and I have searched about everything I can think of. Wondering if anyone has had this problem or have any ideas of what could cause the problem.
I really hope I can get this figured out. Thanks
If you don't have to manually reconnect and enter your password, then its not being wiped. (Or you are restoring it from a backup.) Have you tested it after the clean flash, but before restoring anything? What are you restoring and how?
It sounds like a Rom issue otherwise and you should probably ask in the rom thread.

First I don't know what I've missed wiping. When I say restoring, I'm referring to letting Google re-downloading everything from the Play Store.
I know the WiFi radio are in a different location but like you, when I do a Clean Install by formatting /data /cache /system and wiping dalvik, I wasn't expecting all the stored WiFi connections to still be there, but they are.
Its possible its being restored by Google's backup, but I don't use it myself so I'm not certain about that. Its also possible the rom may save the config file elsewhere. Again though, I don't use cm/aosp based roms so I'm not too familiar with any of their specifics.
Next time you try a clean flash, do not sign into google during setup. Instead go straight to testing wifi to see if it still remembers the connections. Do you have it set to auto connect to any open networks? If so you might want to turn that off.
Have you searched or asked in the roms thread yet? It might be a known issue or something a few others have encountered and know how to fix.

Ya I don't sign into Google at the initial start up after the flash because my WiFi is no able to connect. I will double check the auto connect feature. But I having this issue with other 4.4.4 ROMs also because I tired however on those ones I am amvle to toggle WiFi on but in advanced it has the region set to Europe and when I switch it to Canada it doesn't want to save the change
