Ok, so what I'm asking for is probably something rare and niche product, but it would really help...
I'm looking for an app or setting that will check to see whether or not the access point I'm connecting to via WiFi provides internet access, and if it doesn't, to disconnect and switch back to 3G...
Try juicedefender..got package in that app similar with your demand..;p

sometime I use desire z, it doesn't get the 3G network.
In preference, disable "mobile data" and enable, the net work start to work again.
do you have any idea?
Could be that you're slightly out of range for 3G coverage? Do check with your mobile operator.
If they say its your phone, then you could always root it and install a new radio, which *might/might not* improve signal.
Also have you tried using 3G in other areas?
Try enabling always on mobile data connection that should sort it out

i will try root my phone.

"always mobiledata on" doesn't use too much battery?
so i wanna avoid to use it.
Thats how you get it to keep your data network on, wasnt that the idea of the post?
Anyway you could download an app called extended controls which once set up allows you to enable and disable it with a click of a button

Greetings All,
I am looking for a way to have both data connections running on the Desire, is there a way to make it happen? I understand that the battery will die out quicker its just something I want to toy with. We are looking at having SIP in our factory and I noticed that while playing with SIP and due to the strict nature of our work Internet I was no longer able to access gmail/htc mail and pretty much any other data using app. This is why I want to enable GSM data as well.
Any ideas? Tried searching but did not find anything relevant.
Don't wanna b too rude here but can't u just access those apps through ur 3g connection? Unless ofcourse ur carrier doesn't supply one

Not being rude at all . Problem is that when the wifi is enabled the data connections (G, E, 3G & HSDPA) get disabled. I would like to keep those active and have only the wifi use the sip.

i don think its possible coz one is an alternative for other..they both are not meant to run at same time

I thought it would not be possible. Thanks for the answers much appreciated.

I think this will not work because there is only one 'network card' in you phone, one place where the internet connection is processed. Your phone can acces the internet either via WiFi or 3G but not both at the same time just as your computer can't do LAN and WLAN at the same time
It is not possible.
10chars.
I kinda figured that. I then found this gem which solved all my problems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083284
Now I am just need it to support "Allow local network connecting to skip proxy" and I will be very happy. Thanks for the all the responses .
Does anyone know of an app that will enable our phones to go into repeater mode?

if this is what i think it is then its not possible because the wifi cant work as a client and AP at the same time. if this is not what you want then please tell me.
if you want it from mobile data network to wifi then you can use a hotspot app.
No your spot on. I though a software solution might be possible. There are virtual wifi apps for windows that will turn your wifi into an access point, even while its connected to another one.
If you find 1 please let me know. I have searched before but had no luck.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? My phone seems to get confused about if it should be connected through wifi or 3g/4g for data. For example, if I am at home and connected to my wifi, then get in the car and leave without disabling wifi, the phone acts as if it does not recognize the 3g/4g connection at all. It will just tell me I have no network connection since I am out of range of wifi. Same happens when I am connected with 3g/4g and I walk/drive by a wifi area and I do not join the network. The open app that is using data will then loose its connection and tell me there is no network connection. Simply disabling my wifi and restarting the app does not work. I often have to reboot the phone or turn off my mobile data signal and then enable it to establish a connection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have this problem also, I will have something like streaming music playing then when I am out of range of wifi it dose not go to 3g on verizon. If I don't have any thing using wifi and disable it before going out of range and starting a stream no problem, but when it happens I switch to airplane mode then back and it works fine.
Your not the only one who has this problem.

Same here. Not sure what's causing it. I have to go into airplane mode, which itself seems to take ages, and then turn off airplane mode to establish 3g connection.
I thought it may be a mess up from aokp, and after a clean wipe and flash it seemed fine, but then started showing the same behavior , failing to comnect to 3g after exiting wifi zone.
Does anyone have an answer for this problem? Is it a hardware glitch or software or app caused problem?
Any help would be dearly appreciated too!

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear it doesn't seem like a hardware problem, though I have yo admit I didn't see it on the aokp wikis ... Would you know if it's a problem for an unknown minority our a more general one?
So, I guess, then stock room should be fine? I was only on stock for a few days before flashing aokp. Going back would be a nuisance, but if I can have armless transition from wifi to 3g, then I guest I should -( ...
Any talk on when it may be solved in the aosp community?

I was playing around with settings tonight and discovered Settings -> More Settings (under Data) -> tethering. Checked it, paired my phone and my Win7 PC, initiated an "access point" connection from the PC, and suddenly I was browsing while using my phone as an access point. Granted it was 3G speeds, but it did work.
Does this work for me because I have mobile hotspot, or is this a feature that shouldn't be working, or does it work for everyone? I'm not rooted, using the latest software update (with multiview). I can't even remember far enough back to when a carrier would have ever simply allowed bluetooth tethering, not even Sprint. It's a nice feature to have since WiFi radios usually wear batteries down faster.

this will work for anyone the only thing differnet for people subscribing to hotspot and those who dont is the ability to wirelessly tether with hotspot. hopefully soon we anyone rooted at least will be able to use free wifi thether
Interesting, thanks. I'm still surprised Sprint would allow this considering they offer unlimited data.
That's weird. I just tried this and I got an error 67, registration failed. Maybe they "fixed" it in the software update.

Are using a Galaxy Note 2 on Sprint? Your image tag says you're on AT&T.
Sprint has unlimited data on the phone data only. They have separate plans for hotspots.
2GB @ $19.99
6GB @ $49.99

I wasn't talking about hotspot. I was talking about Bluetooth tethering, and asking if it requires hotspot to work, because with unlimited data you could tether with bluetooth and theoretically have unlimited internet on your PC through your phone.
Can you tether via wifi? There is a wifi tethering app. You can find on xda or PM me and I will email it to you or post a dropbox link.

My question has nothing to do with WiFi tethering.
