Greetings All,
I am looking for a way to have both data connections running on the Desire, is there a way to make it happen? I understand that the battery will die out quicker its just something I want to toy with. We are looking at having SIP in our factory and I noticed that while playing with SIP and due to the strict nature of our work Internet I was no longer able to access gmail/htc mail and pretty much any other data using app. This is why I want to enable GSM data as well.
Any ideas? Tried searching but did not find anything relevant.
Don't wanna b too rude here but can't u just access those apps through ur 3g connection? Unless ofcourse ur carrier doesn't supply one

Not being rude at all . Problem is that when the wifi is enabled the data connections (G, E, 3G & HSDPA) get disabled. I would like to keep those active and have only the wifi use the sip.

i don think its possible coz one is an alternative for other..they both are not meant to run at same time

I thought it would not be possible. Thanks for the answers much appreciated.

I think this will not work because there is only one 'network card' in you phone, one place where the internet connection is processed. Your phone can acces the internet either via WiFi or 3G but not both at the same time just as your computer can't do LAN and WLAN at the same time
It is not possible.
10chars.
I kinda figured that. I then found this gem which solved all my problems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083284
Now I am just need it to support "Allow local network connecting to skip proxy" and I will be very happy. Thanks for the all the responses .

Hello, I was curious if I can use 3G and wifi at the same time. When I turn on wifi it switches 3g off if a network is present. Can I have them both working at the same time
Hi, in my opinion this will not work. How should the data be separated? As far as I know you or the sw has to decide which packets have to be send over which connection. What do you need this for?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Not as far as I know. It's senseless anyway
I am with 3 uk and they have skype but it only works over mobile network, when I use wifi it stops. That's why I need it, no other reasons
sometime I use desire z, it doesn't get the 3G network.
In preference, disable "mobile data" and enable, the net work start to work again.
do you have any idea?
Could be that you're slightly out of range for 3G coverage? Do check with your mobile operator.
If they say its your phone, then you could always root it and install a new radio, which *might/might not* improve signal.
Also have you tried using 3G in other areas?
Try enabling always on mobile data connection that should sort it out

thx,
i will try root my phone.

"always mobiledata on" doesn't use too much battery?
so i wanna avoid to use it.
Thats how you get it to keep your data network on, wasnt that the idea of the post?
Anyway you could download an app called extended controls which once set up allows you to enable and disable it with a click of a button

ahhhh... it's difficult to communicate my idea because im poor in english....
but i will try the app. i will look for in android market.
thanks!
Ok, so what I'm asking for is probably something rare and niche product, but it would really help...
I'm looking for an app or setting that will check to see whether or not the access point I'm connecting to via WiFi provides internet access, and if it doesn't, to disconnect and switch back to 3G...
Try juicedefender..got package in that app similar with your demand..;p

Hello there, I have a CDMA Desire which I have flashed to Page Plus a while ago, everything is working on it, including data. But, I seem to only get a 1x connection instead of 3G. I know this may seem like a stupid and noobish question, but I would just like to know if there is any way to switch it to 3G? And what would I need to do? I appreciate any help in advance.
usually you don't have to switch anything on for 3g. if i remember correctly there isn't an option to switch between 2g and 3g on the original htc-sense rom anyway, you only can switch off mobile data completely. so if you have switched on mobile data you should be on full 3g-speed. according to my experience this does not necessarily mean you have a fast internet connection, though.
Hi,
usually the device is configured to use 3G (if available) by default, you can check the setting anyway, just to be on the safe side, Settings->Wireless & networks->Mobile networks->Network mode and choose the double option (on my device it is GSM/WCDMA auto but in the US I guess it will be slightly different).
I hope I've been useful,
bye

I'm still confused. When I go to mobile networks on the settings, there is no option to change the network settings, only for the system select and such. If it helps a bit more, I'm currently on the MIUI rom. What would I need to do to get 3G working? Sorry if I'm still sounding like a total noob, it just seems weird that I would only get 1x instead of 3G.
Hi,
can you please post a screenshot of your mobile networks settings?
Just to see if it helps us understanding better
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I cannot post a screenshot right now, but basically, when I press Mobile Network settings, I get 4 options. Data enabled, always recieve MMS, data roaming, and system select. When I press system select, the only two options are automatic and home only.
Mmm I don't know what to say, I checked also on my secondary phone (Huawei, standard stock android) and I have the same configuration items plus 1, "use only 2g networks", I don't know why you don't have it

I googled a little bit and I found out that some people are experiencing the same problem with miui, they can't get 3g working and can't find the conf item in mobile networks settings. Why don't you try a different ROM? Just to check whether it is a miui problem
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I'm still not having much luck. Do you guys think it could be related to the PRL? Or should I keep trying to find more ROMs to flash?

Same thing happening with me on ICS...
Ok guys so I've been complaining about my WiFi speed and loading time of the phone so far. I have a new router and I've even tried sitting right next to it! But still the same thing!
I'm sure that I'm not the only person who feels that the phone is slightly slow on WiFi out of the box with standard settings.
I have actually solved the problem and It's a very EASY fix! Do the following:
1. Settings>WiFi>Advanced >Tick best WiFi performance.
I did this and honestly is like a new phone! I am so much more happy with the phone. The difference is night & day!
I hope this helps people start loving their One X again!

What about battery consumption with this seting on though?
That was always my biggest concern for not using this setting.
Router Settings
Hi there,
when I got my HOX out of the box at home and connected it vie WiFi to my WLAN Router Fritzbox 7570 vDSL the HOX connected, but it was not possible to bring up a website like www.google.com, and after very little time the whole WiFi network collapsed, with all other clients showing only restricted connection, but no access to the internet anymore....restarting of the router was necessary.
In a German forum someone suggested to switch the WLAN from 2.4Ghz b+g+n to 2.4Ghz b+g which is a setting option with my particular Fritzbox.
I did so, and voila....no problems whatsoever anymore... HOX showing 54Mbits as does my Samsung Gtab 10.1n or my laptop...
just checked when the router is set to WLAN 2.4Ghz b+g+n the HOX shows 11Mbits and the laptop 130Mbits...
Maybe it is a good idea to see if you have a setting on your router to disable the n standard and only run b+g...and report back.
Then you don't need the Best WiFi setting at all...at least I don't need it!

I am quite sure the battery will get a hit. No free lunches.
I do notice when the signal is weak my wifi seems to disconnet and reconnect.
I have just noticed there is another option that says switch network when the wifi signal is weak. I have loads of wifi signals around my area. Maybe it was trying to connect to my neighbours. I have unticked it now (default is ticked!) and see if that issue still comes up.
But the disconnect/reconnect was pretty fast. Nontheless it is still annoying.

Well some people may have devices at home that run at N. Switching the router off to G-only may not be desirable. But as I said above, try unticking the auto switching option. It could be the phone was trying to switch band when it detected the current signal was weak.
Im sure most of us had already tried this. I'm still unable to connect to most networks or my connection gets cut off every 20 minutes or so. HTC rep explained that there must be an issue with the networkS I'm trying to connect to, as he is able to exclude a bardware failure ias a possible cause by virtue of the fact that I'm not entirely unable to connect to a network. He went on to say that you may compare this to a Turbo on a car, it is either broken or in complete working order. I was stunned at his incompetence in both mechanical and electrical engineering.
Bottom line is, it's impossible to get a proper connection on my phone.

For everyone's reference, I am using TP-Link 1043 router on b+g+n mode and my One X is working fine. No need to turn on "Best Wifi Performance" or turn off "Auto Disconnect".

Ok so I will post my battery usage after today of having best WiFi performance on. Seems like it may use an extra 1-2% so far. Will know for sure ay the end of the day.
One thing I can notice is that when I look at the battery stats the WiFi usage bar is solid blue now. Or used to have multiple broken lines through it.

For weak signal go to settings - wireless -menu, advanced then untick auto disconnect, this stops your hox dropping from a weak signal.

WiFi Problem
I had same problem on my HOX.
I just changed the DNS settings in router's configuration. everything's working now.
OK so I hosted my macbook as a hotspot.. my every other htc except oneX can see and connect to the hotspot...
Strange thing is the oneX can see the wifi networks from surroundings!!
any suggestions?

Hi
Have been pulling my hair since day one with this problem and thanks to this thread i must say i'm a bit relieved to see that i'm not alone. Have changed everything in my WiFi settings now and the only thing that have improved it somewhat was when i changed the encryption to just wep.
Now my hopes are with the new upcoming 1.29.

I dont see this setting?
Got same problem
- Changing encryption to WEP (or even none) works
- Changing band (2.4Ghz to 5Ghz) does not work, even when forced to connect to either
It's terrible, I would love a good solution. I will try all three solutions, one at a time:
- Best WiFi
- Auto disconnect
- Remove N-band from router (but why oh why should we do that!!)

hox didn't support ad-hoc wireless, need to be on AP mode, try download some software such as connectify to share internet, not sure what is on mac though.
Hey guys I've noticed something lately with the WiFi.
If you open an app like tunein radio and browse the web, the WiFi works much better? Seems that the WiFi works better the more the processor is made to work. Anyone else find this?

Where do you see this auto disconnect setting?
I've a Dutch model, so it's here:
Instellingen->Wi-Fi->Menu (3dots)->Geavanceerd->Beste Wi-Fi prestaties
In English it's something like this:
Settings->Wi-Fi->Menu(3dots)->Advanced->Best Wi-Fi
btw: The only things that work are:
- have only B and G and to disable N on the router.
- use only WEB as security
