[XOOM 2] Xoom 2 ME - Official Portfolio Case - Xoom Accessories

Just bought the Xoom 2 Media Edition, and whilst I'm very happy with the tablet, the portfolio case is proving to be something of a letdown. Specifically it won't stay upright in the 'film watching' position; it just slides back and falls down :-(
Anyone else have any comments about this case?

Same problem here... Is a nice thin case but can't be used as a stand in any position.

Raised a support case with Motorola, and they are going to replace it. Will see if the replacement is any better when it arrives...

the correct way

The rubberised strips on mine are on the other side of the flap on the case... no wonder it doesn't work!

Your case is just fine... Fold it inside out. Try to see my photo....

If I try to fold it like that, it sits completely vertically and just falls forward. Will have a bit more of a play with it...

Replacement case arrived from Motorola and... it stays upright now! The problem with the first case was definitely that the rubberised strips weren't... er... rubbery enough
The 'correct' way to stand it up is as I attempted in my video; it just requires a case that's not faulty ;-)
Sent from my Android phone

The bad news is that after a week, the replacement case also has lost its ability to stand up. My conclusion is: don't bother with this case if you want to use it to prop up the Xoom :-(
The rubbery strips on the case that should prop it up seem to be a major design flaw. Bad show, Motorola.
Sent from my XOOM 2 ME using xda premium

I just got the Motorola, case from heck, to work. I used foam double sided mounting tape. The kind used to hang light pictures on the wall without using nails.
2 x ½" x 1" strips put into each groove. The tape did not stick well to the textured case. I heated it a shot from a gas lighter (biggest trick in this hack). Zoom's metal case is highly polished and touches the strips in a line. It does not get glue on it and is not sticky removed from the groove.
I'm sure that the strips will need replacement but it takes about 1 minute and I got roll of tape from a $1 store for a couple of feet or tape.

Try to get the forward edge of tape to roll up the groove on the forward side but not high enough to touch the glass when the case is closed.

If you aren't happy with the case you got. I got one for my XOOM 2 10.1 that has multiple viewing angles, and it also detaches and can be rotated to multiple vertical angles.

Thin Cover Like iPad

Looking for some help. I've looked in many many places but haven't found a cover like the magnetic cover iPad users have. Is there such a cover for the Note 10.1? Looking for the thinnest cover I can find.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The thinnest cover will still be thicker than the iPad because we don't have the magnetic hinge that would allow only the front cover..
The Samsung cover is remarkably thin, but doesn't stay closed.
There are several trifold covers that have a back that then clips onto the corners of the table with a cut out for the pen., several ship from Hong Kong. Some on eBay, some on Amazon.com the stock is constantly changing.
I ended up getting one that is advertised ads unless thin by mistake. It uses an adhesive to stick to the back of the pad. I really DON'T like that. It also makes removing the pen difficult. Plus it doesn't have a slot to charge the tab without opening the cover. I had to cut one.
It has a fold over flap so that it doesn't open accidentally, but the cover is very floppy. I've only been using it a few weeks, but it just doesn't feel that solid.
In the end I'll probably go with a knockoff Samsung if I can find one that stays closed.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using Tapatalk HD
Agree with the above...the thinnest and sexiest is probably the Samsung magnetic book cover. I wasn't fond of it at first, but I've been using it over my i-Blason lately (which is also very nice but is no where near as thin). Lack of magnet to hold cover closed is really not an issue for me. If I am holding it it stays shut.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Guess I'll go for the Samsung cover .. hope it stays closed.
If you're going to buy a magnetic cover you should get the samsung one. Most other ones will probably cause problems with your wacom digitizer if the magnets get too close while you're using it.
I bought the Samsung white cover for £31 on Amazon, it just finishes the look of my tablet, love it. Jim
Samsung white cover with magnets works for me, I think that it can't have a magnetic closer option because it would interfere with the Wacom digitizer.

I have also ordered one online. The "vip" model. I am expecting it to arrive tomorrow together with the GNote 10.1. I will post pictures with the Note with the case on and off so you can evalutate if this one is ok for you or not
My Note should arrive tomorrow and i'll pretty soon get a cover for it. I really dislike Samsungs build quality, i could scratch the whole back of it in one day i guess .. Like many did with the S3. My Motorola razr i doesn't even show a scratch even if it has been dropped by my girlfriend once and i don't handle it too careful.
I think i'll go with the Samsung Diary cover. I don't want my tablet to be bulky just because the manufacturer can't use proper materials and i'm too afraid of scratching it. But the fact that it won't stay closed is a major drawback, seems like i won't get the allround case i need. I think i'll have a look if i can get the Anymode I-Band case in Germany, at least this one looks good in my opinion.

The Samsung Book Cover is about the closest to the smart cover. However I have an iPad 3 also and that smart cover is dangerous... It is really slick and if you are not really careful it will detach itself...

As in update: I received a very cheap trifold magnetic cover that I ordered off of eBay similar to this. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=200899933118&index=6&nav=SEARCH&nid=87359384600
So far it is working fine. It has magnets to keep closed and my pen works fine for drawing.
It has volume, power and charging ports and buttons exposed and you can easily remove your pen. The only thing I wanted exposed was the headphone jack, but a simple hole punch fixed that. Certainly cheap enough.
Now for the warning. The stick on cases are much worse than I expected. They are stuck on pretty much permanently, so switching cases for different activities was not possible. I do that to have a keyboard sometimes. Now the really bad part, the adhesive is strong enough that you can separate the back from the tablet if you are not careful.
I did just that. Nothing breaks, the back of the tablet it's very flexible, but it is a real bear to get back together. Let's just say I know more about the inside off the tab than I would want to this stage in the warranty.

I-Blason Slim Case for Hisense Sero 7 Pro

I've been a big fan of the slim cases that Blurex has made for the 7" tablets, specifically the Acer A100 and Nexus 7. So, when I picked up a Hisense Sero 7 Pro, I contacted Blurex to see if they intended to produce a case for it. Sadly, they passed, but I noticed a similar case for the $99 Sero 7 on I-Blason's site. It lacked the cut-out for the rear-facing camera, but otherwise looked like a nice option. Well, about a week ago I spotted the same case for the Pro version being offered on Amazon for $19.95 and ordered it. The package arrived yesterday and so far I'm very pleased with the fit and build quality of the case.
Like the Blurex cases, it doesn't cover the front glass as all. It protects the corners and offers easy access to all the ports and buttons. Unlike Blurex (which uses a leather covered spring-clip), I-Blason's case has a plastic clip on the side to hold the cover closed. It's attached to the case with elastic and opens easily enough with one hand. You can also use the clip to secure the flap when the case is open. As long as the plastic doesn't break, it seems like a nice feature. If someone wanted to lose the clip, and X-acto blade and some sandpaper would make easy work of it.
It also has a built-in hand strap which is nicely made as well. There's a piece of Velcro which holds the hinged part of the back leather to the plastic case. If you open it, the case acts as a 3-position stand for the tablet in landscape mode. The only this that's a little strange is the hinge on the front cover. I've played with the case for a day, and haven't found a situation where the hinge actual comes into play. In fact, it actually causes the cover to pop-up slightly when it's closed, although I'm sure it will flatten out after a couple days.
The verdict? I'm really and impressed with this case. It's nicely designed and has a high-quality build. For people who aren't a fan of cases that add bulk or cover the bezel, I highly recommend the I-Blason Slim Case.

The hinge fold on the cover is there for "keyboard" mode.
Works well, doesn't bounce around and I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I was able to mash out some text considering how highly I regard the iOS keyboard on the full-size iPad.
My only complaint about the case is the "light colored" micro-fiber interior, which I'm afraid will get nasty with hand grossness as time goes on.
Returned my case, plastic clip already broke. Will keep an eye out for something new.

When I saw that part of the description of the case I wondered. There's a very similar case available for the Nexus 7 that uses the plastic clip design and either the thread here at XDA on the case or the Amazon reviews were full of complaints about the same problem with the clip breaking. Sorry to hear that this one suffers from the same thing.

The wake sleep function does, sure. The case you are linking to covers the back too. I have a case like that for my old Nexus 7. Hey believe me, I wish they would put out a cover without a back on it. Someone could totally manufacture one that works like the cover for the Galaxy Note. Where the case actually replaces the back cover completely, and replaces it with a back cover that has the front cover attached.

It depends on the case. I had the Poetic hand strap one, and it added more bulk than I would like. But there's also a Poetic slimline that looks a lot better. The official premium Asus cover is supposed to be great as far as bulk is concerned, but it isn't a smart cover. No idea why they didn't slip a magnet in there.

Or maybe it's the otherway around, they didn't test the feature since their covers doesn't have the magnet ?!?

What magnet waking up issue? I had the Poetic hand strap smart cover on my gen 1 nexus 7 for an entire year, and it worked just like it was supposed to. There were issues with the cases with magnets when the first started releasing them. That was because they were using magnets that were too strong, and would put the n7 back to sleep if you folded the front cover back. I had this issue with the first cover I got from Poetic. There was pretty considerable backlash, and they fixed the problem within a few days. They even sent out free cases with the updated magnet to anyone that bought the problematic ones.
I guess you're one of those lucky owners without this issue.
But many are having this issue for real, just google it or visit some of the threads here in XDA.
I noticed you mentioned 2012 Nexus 7. I have one with a 3rd-gen Poetic, so I know what you say.
This is a 2013 Nexus 7 thread, no ?

Yeah, I have no idea what he's talking about either. My N7 (2012 and 2013) had no issues with waking up, and I had smart-covers on both of them.
You're a lucky owner then.
I said some/many not ALL (tablets to have this issue).
I got the moko ultra slim and while it does add minimal bulk, it would be nice if they could just make the piece that attached to the back adhesive like the skins are. I'm thinking I may buy another one and try and hack it to achieve this.

I have the not waking up a smart cover issue only if I have an app like kindle open in I close the cover. If there is no app active, I have no issue. Maybe that is actually everyone's issue?
Smart covers are overrated. Just press the damn button and if you don't feel like pressing the button when you close your case then just wait the 30 seconds to a minute it takes your screen to timeout.
If I purchased the Poetic Ultra Slim, I would remove the magnet!

I preordered this back in August and finally got it from the mail this week, the build quality of the case is OK, except there's a problem with its magnets. At certain standing positions, the magnets would interfere with the smart cover receptor and shut off the screen when I don't want it to do so. I contacted the seller and got a replacement today, which does the same thing as the original product. Well....for $5, can't complain much.
It looks nice and I don't use the stand much and been looking for a soft touch case. Does it ad a lot of bulk like some of the people complain about?

If you don't use it as a stand, this case would fit your need. :good::good:
It's very slim and the soft touch feels great.
Thanks I'm gonna buy one and see how I like it

I have both Poetic and this Roocase.
The Roocase's front cover is thinner --> flimsy.
Roocase still has a magnet issue --> turns off tablet when folded back.
I think you should spend a few more $$ for the Poetic.
I have the poetic right now and hate it since it feels so cheap from the fake leather material they used. Really prefer the soft touch. Just ordered it will let you know how I like it lol.

I just received mine yesterday. Overall, the case feels extremely nice - especially the softback material. The cover is thin, but that's okay for me since it does not add bulk and it allows the cover to fold in many ways.
I've only noticed the magnets activate standby on the tablet when it is in one certain position (not folded behind). It's not something I am worried about because there's no reason for me to orient the tablet in such way.
It's an extremely thin case that's definitely worth $5 if you do not get one that has the magnet issues.
I have the LTE model.
I spent half an hour with a dremel tool to modify it to permit changing the SIM card without removing the tablet from the RooCase.
I am generally pleased with it, but I think the corner protection is substandard.
The corner protection does not go all the way up to the top of the tablet.
Regards
I figure as long as it sticks out more than the tablet around the edge it's nothing to worry about on a flat surface. And as was said the thin cover wouldn't be a problem since it doesn't add bulk and if your not too rough with it it won't be a problem lol. One question though is the magnet right on the edge of the cover? Amazon pics weren't great

Well just got mine today and the difference is night and day. This feels so much more premium its not even funny and yeah magnit can be an issue but not a big deal I'll just throw some aluminum foil between the case and device. It doesn't creak or squeel and it doesn't feel cheaper than dirt. Love this case

if you have issues with the magnets in the case turning your screen on and off in various positions, you can disable the magnet wake feature using Elemental kernel (assuming your rooted) or you can contact the seller and they will send you a free replacement ( supposedly tested by them to be working properly) I got my replacement a few days ago but I guess I've been to lazy to reflash the kernel and select the magnet wake option to ON and verify
I don't really have issues with it since I don't use the stand much. Fantastic case though

There is a huge thread about this case already. It is a nice case. I got mine in the other day. I haven't used it yet but I like it better then my Moko. It looks and feels better.

I have this case, don't recommend
I purchased this case when I had my Nexus 7 on order, It took three weeks to arrive. In the meantime I got the Poetic Slimline also. After receiving the rooCase, I immediately noticed the poor fit and rough edges on the case. I also noticed the same issues with the magnets as some of the other people. Bottom line I would not recommend this case at all as it does not work well and is of poor quality.
Try ands see if you can't get a replacement mine was fantastic and fits better than the poetic case.

Dang, that's really an extreme solution. People shouldn't have to mod their kernels just to adapt to a poorly designed accessory.
Its not really an issue since it doesn't stand like the regulate cases since its the oragami and works just fine like that.

Those both look awesome, the one on Amazon especially reminds me of a Raspberry Pi case I got from the Czech Republic, I just wonder how they do with drop protection.

That was my concern. I want more information on any type of paddind around the corners. Basically you protect theh phone from dings from drops but that does you no good when the screen shatters from the shock/impact. I used to have a hard plastic case for my GS3 and I dropped it taking it out of my pocket. The screen cracked but the body of the phone was fine. You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at the phone itself that it was ever dropped after replacing the screen unless you looked on the case.
A review of the Kommandment case:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/1xdzsz/so_kommandment_case_came_in_today/
I wouldn't bother with any full metal case - wireless signal will be severely affected.

The Reddit review posted a couple above here speaks to that: apparently it's a great looking case, but no drop protection/bumpering, just surface protection. Darn, because that's a snazzy-looking case.
I have this case and from my experience, i did not have any issues with reception. I was worried at first forking out that much money for a case. The plastic window (separate piece) does get scratched easily. My one came with a few deep scratches. i contacted support and they were happy enough to send me a replacement piece. The case is very nice and premium to the feel.
In the picture the back is not 100% plastic. Only the window. The back frame (black part) surrounding the windows is aluminum.
Pros
- Very premium and unique compared to all the other cases
- Did not have any wifi/reception issues (Personally)
- Not an iphone fan but i do love the build quality of them and this case will make you feel like you're holding a oversized iphone 4/4s/5/5s
Cons
- Back plastic will get scratched from general wear and tear.
- If you look close enough you will see some imperfections like the volume buttons look a bit scratched (not painted properly? didn't worry me)
Other than those, i love this case. Yes, it is very expensive but i cannot find any other case like this.
@dragon884 can you share few pics?

ok, just remember that a full alumium back will affect reception.
The link for the Dayjoy black case has no reviews but if you go to the white one :
http://www.amazon.com/DAYJOY-Luxury...4-5171312?ie=UTF8&refRID=0H696MXPVT92CKH9ZMYJ
There are 2 reviews and both of them wrote that it affects reception. Goodluck finding a case!!!

You can/should take off that IMEI sticker from the back of your phone.
You can still access it in your about phone settings, and it is also on the box your phone came in.
New kommandant back plate is out, but i don't know how it looks on black nexus 5... Any ideas??
