REGARDING BATTERY STATS!

*THIS IS INFORMATION THAT I CAME ACROSS FOR ANYONE WONDERING ABOUT BATTERY LIFE AND STATS.
Excellent article. I've had my suspicions for a while -- having tried every method for "calibrating" my battery.
Want better battery life? Get a better ROM and keep tabs on your services.
ive never thought the CWM wipe battery stats would actually give me a longer battery life. i thought or just assumed it was to make sure the full charge, draining, and dead path of the battery % or whatever u call it would acurately flow with the new ROM i flashed.

I need to figure out exactly what's causing this battery drain. At 7PM my battery was at 100% after installing a new radio+kernel combo. I also calibrated my battery using a method I read in the Calkulin thread for his ROM. The method was as follows: After installing a new radio, rom or kernel charge the battery to 100% then physically take the battery out for 3 minutes. Boot into recovery then wipe the battery stats and dalvik cache 3 times each. Boot into Android then charge to 100%. Download a battery calibration tool use that and discharge. Anyway, I did all of this and was done by 7PM. After light use...listening to a few songs via google music...did a search using 3g...nothing too heavy. By 8:23 my battery was down to 76%. I thought this was pretty abnormal so I downloaded some extra battery tools and app watcher tools to see exactly was draining me so bad. Over the course of about 1:30 hours my battery dropped from 76% to 46%. I froze some non essential apps after checking up on them with watchdog (social hub, yahoo finance, tts service and accuweather). Decided to do a restart to see if that would help and my battery read 17%. I just noticed that it went up to 18% and it's holding steady but this is really weird...I honestly don't know what's going on and I could really use some assistance with this issue.
I forgot to post stats for the past few hours. Before I started the battery drain quest the Battery Monitor Widget said that the estimated was around -280mA. Over the course of a few hours it ranged from that to well over -600mA. After the restart it dropped to like -2mA but now it's back up in between the -400mA to -700mA range. It's slowly dropping as I type but there's no way that this is normal.
Sometimes when doing reboots messes up the battery reading. Its done that to me before. I have noticed that on ics when I flash a kernel and modem it takes me like a full day to get good battery. After I flash it my battery is pretty bad. Search for an appstore called bettery battery stats. Its on here at xda somewhere. Use that to see if your phone is sleeping properly or if an app is wakelocking your phone. Also it depends on who u ask but wiping battery stats does absoutley nothing for me. Its been said before that it doesn't work. Hope u get it straightened out.

thanks for the response. I've downloaded the battery stat app but I need to read up more on it to find out what the program is telling me. In your opinion what is good battery drain? I was on facebook for a second and it skyrocketed to high -600's but now it's down to about -90mA and dropping by just sitting in front of me.

Clearing battery stats does work to wipe any info the os has on the battery. Just check your battery graph in settings, boot to cwm, wipe battery stats, then look at that graph again.
I know you know your fair share of info, so no disrespect man...

I think he meant wiping does nothing to actually effect the life of the battery... Which, I agree. I've never seen any benefits when I've done it on my ET our my Moment.
Wiping just resets the OS's experience with the battery. Using your phone normally for 24 hours had the exact same effect.

things were looking up as far as battery life goes. i got rid of some programs that were hogging the cpu and i was almost to around 12 hours on a single charge with light use. however, i did a reboot at around 6pm and my battery read 45% before hand. after the reboot it read 10%. do you think it has something to do with the kernel? this is the second time a reboot has jacked up my battery.
Guys
I have been having the same problem and try lots of things but what I did not try and just found out is that my phone has a 1500mHa instead off a 1800mHa Sprint store made a mistake and placed the wrong battery inside my phone.
Maybe some of the problems you guys are having is due to that fact.
Besides opening the phone there are several app that will actually tell you which battery you have I.E. Battery Monitor
Hey everyone I want to get some opinions on whether or not their battery life was extended shortened after flashing Blazer ROM cause my phone seems to dropping a percent ever 15 mins or so.
Thanks, DMD

Search the rom's thread. There is plenty of discussion there about battery drain.
Rogue apps? Calibrated your battery after flash? Facebook and other sync heavy apps love the battery. Live wall paper? I am assuming you are familiar with these questions so I won't go on.
Your phone keeps a log of battery stats. After you flash, calibrate. There are free apps in the play store. I use battery calibration by nema. Found this tip just yesterday after I was going through the rom's forum when I saw people talking about battery drain. I calibrated last night. So far after 13hours, I am down 17%. A definate improvement.
I also use juice defender.
Good luck! And remember, search, search, and search. You have a familiar question.
Hi every, I'll like to know some battery life tips because I think mine is to short at software level or maybe at hardware don't know yet. I've GNex 1.9.0 installed with Trinity kernel. I've also WiFi enabled, 3G enabled and PowerAmp running all the time but I notice my battery drains to fast. How I can fix this? Do I must re-calibrate the battery or something else? I'm totally lost on this topic so any help will be appreciated :good:
Yea I want this too

To recalibrate a lithium ion battery,
1) Discharge battery completely.
2) Charge battery completely.
Unfortunately, that's about it.
and there is no good extended battery case for the phone.
unless you want the current one which bulks up your phone 2x (i believe at 3800)
if only there was a morphie juice case for the gnex
Hello
A few weeks ago i installed clockworkmod en cyanogenmod 9. This because i thougth it would be better for my battery.
When i installed those mods, i didn't remove the batterystats.
By installing those mods, i concluded that the software wasn't the problem why my battery was draining that much, but it was the battery itself.
When i brought it back to the store, they told me it was damaged.
So because of that, i ordered a new one.
Now i have the following question.
1) When i replace my old battery with the new, do i have to clear the batterystats via clockworkmod?
2) in fact, i never cleared those stats. Should i have to do this?
Thanks!
Ps, sorry for my bad english.

Battery stats are cleared whenever your battery reaches 100% (when you fully charge it). So it actually is useless to manually reset the battery stats.
Ok so your battery is damaged? How was the battery life before you flashed CM9? I don't think that it is the ROM's fault. Was your battery swollen? (getting fat)
No you dont have to reset battery stats.. Just keep in mind that CM9 and CM10 uses kernel 3.0 and they cause fast battery drain...You may have to install some apps to prolong the battery life like deep sleep battery saver and Greenify.

Hello,
Battery life before CM9 wasn't also that good.
This was one of the reasons why i changed to CM9.
After the installation, i noticed that there wasn't improvement in batterylife. It become even a bit worser...
Because of this, i went to the store to check the battery. They tested it and told me that the battery indeed was swollen.
So, if i understand good, i just have to replace the battery without clearing stats.
For the rest i just have to install some apps to counter the kernel 3.0 drainage?
Yeah you are right. Just charge the battery 100% and start using your phone.

Are you satisfied with your phone's battery backup??? If not, follow tje tutorial, you will surely have a better battery life.
Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM,
but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is
miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the
batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new
clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information
from the previous ROM is removed.
It's suggested, but not necessary, to let the phone fully
discharge after calibration, then charged to 100%
without break.
The app shows your actual battery status, and only allows
you to start the calibration (i.e. removes the file) when
it's fully charged, unless you force earlier calibration.
The voltage meter can be useful too. Full charge is around
4200mV.
There is an option to beep when 100% is reached so you
don't have to closley follow the changes.

Yes it works
My battery backup is really improved after it. Thanx

It just means there was a 7% discrepancy between the old bin and the new bin. This doesn't improve your battery life, it just reports it more accurately if you let the phone run down to 0% and then do a full charge.
Isn't battery calibration on modern batteries just a myth? According to MKBHD's video on YouTube entitled "Top Battery Myths"..
Sounds convincing and logical..
According to this battery calibration is a myth >> http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/ << I stopped doing it a long time ago
