After dialing *#*#4636#*#*, I have switched the network type on my phone to WCDMA Only to prevent my phone switching to roaming as I am close to the edge of my network.
It sticks initially, but as soon as I reboot it seem to revert back to the default WCDMA/GSM. I'm using an ASOP 4.0.3 build, so I'm wondering if anyone with a stock build can give it a try and see if this setting sticks between reboots on their device.
Thanks!

I was wondering if there is a way to make my tMob SGS3 do better at seeking and maintaining a WCDMA connection?
I know I can change the Mobile Network Mode to WCDMA only, and I do sometimes.
However, when it is in Auto mode, it switches back and forth constantly between GSM and WCDMA. In my home when I force WCDMA mode it has 2-3 bars of WCDMA and it does not drop the connection. When I put it on auto, it switches back and forth every minute or 2. I flashed and tried every modem possible but the results are the same.
Is there any way, besides WCDMA only mode, that I can make my phone more aggressively seek and keep WCDMA when it is available?
Thanks!

Dude I feel ya. I seriously think it all started once they switched to the 1900 band for 3g. Cause when I had my HTC HD2 it was mostly 3g in my house. Now it hardly ever switches to 3g unless I force it.

It works great when I switch it to WCDMA only, however I keep forgetting to switch it to GSM/WCDMA when I leave the house or work. I'm thinking of getting some TecTile NFC stickers to cause my phone to remind me to switch or maybe try to find a way to automate it with them or something.
If it sits at G or E until you start a data transfer and then jumps to 4G this is how it was originally set up to operate. The intent was to save both battery and banwidth. It was like this for me until I updated and it stopped. It was annoying so I'm glad it was changed. But if you are on either build UVALEM or UVALG1 try updating to the latest official build UVALH2.
Otherwise it may just be the tower you're connected to is under heavy load and is trying to conserve bandwidth, or it may just not be functioning correctly.
One other thing it could also be is if your area hasn't been refarmed yet. (It may be that this is what changed it for me but its been a while and I know I had updated about the same time I noticed it, so I attributed to that) the more I think about it now, if updating doesn't change its behavior, this is probably what's going on.

Thanks. I am on UVALH2. I think the way it is supposed to be setup is to sit on UMTS while conserving bat/data and switch to HSPAP when moving data (Both WCDMA protocols). It actually has been much better today. Don;t know if the tower in my area was having issues the last few days.
I checked for NFC programs that would allow me to change my networks based on location and none have that fine level of settings.
It isn't really a problem if I switch it to WCDMA only, it's just that I forget to switch it back to both when I'm on the road and I end up missing calls.
Well, I guess that answers whether it was the update that did it for me! I'm guessing it must be due to the network refarming then. Like I said, it did the same for me for a while, but I haven't had it hapoen at all for some time now.
You could look for an app that lets you create location based profiles. You can set it to be one way at home and when you leave it'll automatically change to your other settings.
I would imagine Tasker could handle this as well, but I've never used it.

I was mucking about like an idiot in the ##DATA# menu and in trying to get LTE here (we're covered but my phone doesn't seem able to connect), I hit "reset APN defaults" and the 6 options I had turned into 2.
No big deal you'd think but now I can't even get a 3G signal with CDMA/LTE as my option in the regular network area of the OS. I can only get a 3G signal when I have CDMA (exclusively) selected.
The weird part is I do get a temporary 3G signal when I update my profile or PRL but then it vanishes again upon completion. I also get 3G when I force roam with Roam Control.
Does anyone have any ideas? How can I get that old APN menu back and/or fix this lack of data when not in CDMA only mode?
For anyone who runs into the same issue, your bog standard factory reset takes care of it.
So I'm on a CyanogenMod 10 nightly, and I am having the problem of the Preferred Network Mode setting not sticking, like several other users apparently, and after searching the forum I have concluded that there is no actual solution yet. Right now I can get to 4G LTE by manually setting to LTE/GSM/WCDMA in the Preferred settings, but it always reverts back after reboot. Apparently this does not happen to everybody; how should I fix this?
I posted in the CM Nightlies thread but no one seemed to notice. I hope this can get to the devs so they can fix this eventually I guess.
The following may be of use
http://code.google.com/p/cm9-msm8960/issues/detail?id=39
According to that, this is a hard-coded problem caused by the settings in the two places not matching?
Try going to your dialer and typing *#*#4636#*#*
Use that dialog to set it to what you want and hopefully it will stick then?
I never encountered this problem myself because I never want my phone on LTE as the battery life is pitiful as is and LTE only makes it worse.
Mine is set to WCDMA only on quattrimus cm10 and it sticks no problem.

Had the same problem, except that it dropped data service every 10 mins or so. Didn't even had to reboot. I could fix that by changing the network settings from lte/wcdma to gsm/wcdma. Another thing I witnessed when on lte that it would recover data connection when the process was restarted e.g. when activating and deactivating airplane mode.
Unlike most people, I'm actually wanting to keep it on LTE only, since I just keep data off until I need it, and when I need it I want full speed.
The phone always reverts back to GSM/WCDMA, turning off LTE.
I messed around in *#*#4636#*#* but it didn't really do anything.
I've been having the same problem on my Razer Phone 2. I don't think this is specific to the phone itself, but. I'm getting desperate for a solution. I change the preferred network type in the *#*#4636#*#* menu, I get LTE fine..... As long as I don't restart the phone or go on/off with airplane mode. Then I have to do it all over again. Does anyone know how to make this stick?
Running Task650 AOKP ROM and KT747 Kernel.
I wish to stay on 3G/H+ ONLY and not be on LTE.
However my Network Mode is always stuck in: LTE/ GSM/WCDMA after a reboot.
When I try to change it, it only changes for a split second, and then goes back to LTE/ GSM/WCDMA.
I always have to manually: Click Network Operators, wait until they pop up, Select AT&T, and only then can I select WCDMA preferred, allowing me to stay on 3G/H+ only connection.
After every reboot, I must redo these steps in order to get back into the state I want.
Backup your rom. Restore a stock rom go to more settings / network and check the GSM cdma option. Then restore your rom and you'll be free of LTE. Sometimes I lose my LTE after wiping system and that's how I get it back. I guess the opposite should work for you.

Running same setup, I also do this upon every single reboot to force edge so I get a good signal in my apartment. Pita sometimes waiting while it searches for the network.
Good morning all.
My S9 is completely stock (Android 10) and I don't want to install any custom ROM.
Is there a way to force LTE only (Three network/UK)?
I have tried #*#*4636*#*# but this doesn't work. I have used a couple of apps that have given me access to the settings and changed it to LTE only and this is confirmed in the mobile settings page but the phone keeps reverting back to 4g (not 4g+).
I definitely have 4g+ here because it does connect if I reboot my phone and the download speed is double my normal rate but I cannot get it to stick.
Is there a specific APN I could use?
May I ask you for advice?
Thank you.

You can try with Force LTE Only app on Play Store since Scamsung is kinda blocked the Radio edit part on ONEUI. But be aware that on some firm, Scamsung devices will not be able to make phone call or receive text msg when on force LTE only mode!
That's one of the apps I have used but the phone just reverts back to 4g (even though Network Mode now shows LTE only).
Looks like I have been misunderstanding my network terminologies.
What I am trying to do is force my phone to stay on the 4g+ signal, because I get much better downloads. It is definitely available here because I connect to it for a few minutes if I reboot my phone. My phone is completely static with good, no fluctuations, signal.
Can this be done?
