Roger's Galaxy Nexus - Any bloatware & is it yakju - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Finally GNex for Rogers.
Anybody get it yet?
I'm just curious because I don't trust my own carrier at all, they have a tendency to screw things up royally all the time. (last time I bought a phone from them was the HTC Dream) and that was a huge mess with the entire cannot dial 911 with data enabled forcing an entire legal issue and a mandatory patch or suspension of service. Since then I've happily owned a Nexus One (shipped from Google) for the past two wonderful years.
Can anybody confirm that Rogers has not stuck their dirty fingers inside our dear Galaxy Nexus? (no bloatware, no Rogers Logo on boot, etc etc)
also this isn't a deal breaker but I'm just wondering if it's yakju or not.
as long as it is not Rogers Branded at all I'll go pick mine up today =)
THANKS for any info guys

It won't be branded as Rogers. Pure stock. Yakju? Not sure, you can just change it later if you desire.

I've done a lot of searching around the forums to know that yakju or not I can live with it, I know that it should be clean and not branded at all, but it's my life long experience with Rogers that has conditioned me never to assume the best with this company...
yet the reason I stay is because they do provide one of the best services in Toronto. Nothing would make me happier to pay $30 for voice and data with Wind or Mobilicity but truth be told, reliability is more important even if it costs 3 times more...

It doesn't matter if you have yakju or yakjuux.. I am glad you decided you can live with it being either

I would like to know this also. I am getting pretty antsy right now waiting for Rogers to call so I can go pick up my phone.
ahhhhh im so excited for it!

Yes the main reason for this post is because I don't trust Rogers at all.
Firmware versions is just out of curiosity

I hear you, My roommate, Ex, and Myself are holding back from pulling the trigger over this stupid issue, I'm not the only person who doesn't trust this company hahaha

Like I said, you can flash it back to yakju. It's very simple to do.

This might not mean anything but my friend got his from Fido and he said that it has no bloatware from them so perhaps its a sign that Rogers decided to not put anything on there.

Got my Rogers Gnex on tues. Pure stock experience; no Rogers bloat.

Sorry to get off topic, but I've been on Rogers for years (like you, ordered a N1 from google) but my service of late was ****. Dropped called, dropping out of 3g, slow, slow internet and no service while my co-workers were chatting away on their phones. I thought my phone was defective by I looked on howard forums and there's tons of people having issues. Long story short I broke my contract and moved to virgin so I could get the GN right away. The service is SO MUCH BETTER! It was the best $200 I ever spent.
If you've got a good plan with rogers, fair enough, but I assure you, their service is not longer the best.

I've had mine 2 days with rogers..it's awesome.just get volume +, and I hope we get 4.02 soon,bell / virgin started yesterday
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

I just picked mine up within the last hour and so far everything is sweet.
Just a question i have though, for OTA updates does a popup show in the notification bar or am I suppose to go look manually to see if updates are available on a site or something?

I have same question...i think it notifies if you reboot, or go into"about phone"and click on system updates, and it verifies. Nothing yet, but I hope to get it soon

Where did you see that bell/virgin phones are getting 4.0.2? I haven't seen a single post of this yet.

What radio is the rogers nexus using?

hey , for people who recently bought the ROGERS Galaxy Nexus, can you post what MODEM/BASEBAND version it came with???
I'm curious if its any different from the Bell/Virgin/International ones
And if so, could someone pull the radio for us to flash?
I'm using an international Galaxy Nexus on Rogers and am curious if the Rogers GN radio will benefit
Thanks!

Visit mobilesyrup was a post last night, people commented that they received it

Shoot. I was back in New York last weekend lol don't have another trip scheduled for a month or 2.
I want my frickin Nexus...all I know is I'll be unhappy if it doesn't come out until the 15th. I don't want to have to pay for another month of AT&T and *then* switch to Verizon.
Aweee Yeaaa.
God I hope this means next Friday
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
Ask the reps there about a release date? lol
Also, check build numbers, preinstalled apps, recovery mode, tethering, you know the drill.

Did the place look like the Apple Store in the Samsung GSII commercial?
Is the Columbus Circle location considered a flagship store? Wonder why they put the phone out before (evidently) any other VzW stores.

I don't necessarily have a problem with there being a Verizon logo on the back, but I think its pretty ridiculous there's no Google logo anywhere on the device.

No Google logo means that maybe Verizon plans on locking this thing down.. Hope not But never know when Verizon is involed.
I'm getting extremely turned off by this. Verizon's version of the Nexus is NOT pure Google. No Google branding? What BS. Verizon bloatware out of the box? What BS. If people want those apps, then they can download them from the Market. I'm gonna flip my lid if this delay has to do with those apps being linked to the device's framework somehow.
AT&T is completely out of the question for me. Seriously, **** that bastard company and everything they stand for. I'll punch a baby before AT&T ever gets another dime from me. I was willing to leave T-Mobile for a superior network in Verizon until reading all of this.
Verizon and AT&T can't seem to keep themselves from ruining EVERY device they touch. The T-Bolt and Bionic are bad enough. Both look like a freaking Verizon graffiti wall.
I'm not touching Galaxy Nexus until someone can confirm that those two apps are purely JUST APPS and not tied to the framework or necessary for the device to work right. I'm not going down this line again like I did with my Vibrant. It's either pure Google, or it isn't.
I remember going to that store a few years back on a visit to NYC thinking the 4 megapixel phones and video phones were out of this world. We've come a long way since then.

Just to give you a heads up based on past experience with Verizon bloatware, I've always been able to root and just strip the apks right out of the system folder with no problems. I don't see why this would be any different, these are apps I've removed many times before via root.
On a side note, these moves by Verizon do not surprise me at all. They don't operate like GSM carriers. They operate on a foundation of being able to control what devices access their network. Always have, always will. I'm just happy Google was willing to compromise with them to get this far, even if we do end up getting a somewhat bastardized Nexus. As long as its vanilla and the bootloader is unlockable, I'm content.

Received a free Galaxy Nexus from Google!!

The company I work for is a direct partner with Google. They were in our office today for a quarterly update. While they were here they gave a free unlocked Galaxy Nexus to the client leads of the top 3 (highest ad spend) accounts. Luckily I was one of the 3.
I am coming from the Samsung Galaxy S2. Right now I have to say that I am surprised at how similar the two phones actually are. But I am loving the full ICS experience found on the Nexus.
Anyway, just wanted to share my story. I'm excited to see how the development section for this phone turns out.

Yeah, I live in Denver. It's funny you said that. One of the guys who won one is on Verizon and he tried to activate it with them. Verizon said it wouldn't work on their network. He asked Google if he could swap his unlocked GN for a Verizon GN and they told him they didn't have any with them or at headquarters.

Haha I've actually acquired about 10 of them over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, this is my favorite one to date. I have a few black ones and red ones I don't wear if anyone wants them. One medium and the rest are larges.
I actually have a LTE version that I want to swap for a GSM one. I have T-Mobile and signing up for a Verizon plan would cost me over $20 a month extra. PM'ing you. I'm still debating going with Verizon, if only to keep the 32GB of space.
Congrats enjoy Google
Congratulations. I'm jealous.

A sprint store should be able to figure it out. If it's a brand new phone I don't see why not.
What plan do you have?
Can't activate on Verizon either
I'm having the same problem-- but with Verizon. Bought it from ebay, in great communication with the seller who is trying to help.
Phone isn't stolen/lost; no outstanding balances on the phone or my plan.
Factory data reset didn't help one bit. Can't activate fully-- just get internet (no calls/texts).

Did you get a new 4g sim card with your new phone? Or a sim replacement? You need to activate the sim card, but as long as its already activated, any device should work.

Are you sure it's a Sprint Galaxy Nexus? Take some pictures of the phone. What does the backcover contain?
Yep, this is the third new SIM (LTE) card. Been to both the store and on the phone with Verizon tech reps.
Tech reps say activation is "stuck at the switch" (this is day 3... btw)
should I unroot it? I've already done 2 factory data resets.... Or should I just wait it out?

A lot of custom roms do not have all the required proprietaries needed for such things like sim activation. Or they include them, but do not sign them correctly.

I don't suggest asking them to put it in a display device to activate....i don't think they normally do that and will probably look at you like you have spiders crawling out your nose lol
Just put it on a stock ROM
When i got my nexus it came with liquid on it unlockedrooted
i just flashed the 4.04 stock ROM build that bird man compiled found over at rootzwiki and it got activated
At this point you have the option of putting the official stock 4.04 vzw build on it tho which i would recommend, preferably one without any tweaks, rooted should be fine tho
To the OP, try putting your self on a stock ROM for sprint and you should be gravy
Good luck!

Depending upon your area, it's not so much the phone as much as it is that Sprint service sucks right now due to the NV upgrades. I haven't been happier with a phone since I started using smart phones with the OG Droid a few years back. It's stable, sturdy, easy to customize, and depending on which ROM you choose the battery life is KILLER!!!!

I always root right away, there's no reason for me to wait to do that.

Last for update

Normally T-Mobile is on the forefront of updates in my opinion. All 3 other carriers have gotten their App2SD update.
Still hard to believe Verizon released an update before TMO.

Not just the other 3 carriers. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Canada version, and BOTH international versions. T-Mobile i guess just doesn't care about the Galaxy S4. which is their BEST flagship phone for now. Doesn't it make sense to support it with major updates like Apps2SD? But, no worries. after 1 week of waiting for t mobile, I just rooted AGAIN and installed a i9505 ROM.
Do we really need ANOTHER thread whining about this?
No one here on XDA can do anything about the OTA update. We can help you get teh features from the unreleased OTA on your phone now. But if you want to OTA, complain about it on the T Mobile forums.

Who cares? Just rock a rooted phone then unroot when it comes out. App 2 SD is so easy to get.

Normally T-Mobile is on the forefront of updates in my opinion. All 3 other carriers have gotten their App2SD update.
Still hard to believe Verizon released an update before TMO.

When I talked to T-mobile yesterday, they told me they were waiting for samsung to send them the update. Other users are saying that were told it will be released august or september.
But there arent any roms that I have seen that have both Wifi Calling and Apps2SD. If you know of a rom that has this please enlighten me.
I don't think any of them have both yet. Because Wi-Fi calling is a T-Mobile feature. But, since I don't really need it, I can settle for just Apps2SD

Why not just move to a carrier that doesn't suck at your house? Other wise just stop complaining? T-mobile gives you wifi calling so you can go through your normal daily lives....other carriers do not.
We should KNOW by now that T-mobile is still not the frontline of receiving updates from samsung. It goes through the popular services and than gets to t-mobile last. We see this time and time again, so i'm not sure why the complaints. Tmobile will be at the backline of everything just like international is on the front line of everthing, will this be always? let hope not.
So either be greatful for the wifi calling feature and wait around...or deal with it or move carrier.
I can flash international roms, so frankly I do not care one way or the other

Here's an idea. Root your phone, keep all the TMobile crap, and uninstall whatever you want. If you want a smoother experience, flash Ktoonz kernel.
Tmobile's not coming out with an update that's gonna be smoother than Ktoonz kernel. Bet that.

I did complain to them that their May 7 OTA was laggy and not acceptable as-is - plus lack of app-to-sd. They just sweep it under the rug - plus the "posters" there - what planet do they live on - lol? Or amybe all TMO employees..
In the meantime, Omega 9 with KT and ditto Wicked 5.1 with WiFi calling are doing just fine.
Lol these threads are addicting like xda sitcoms or something. I just have to read them. Plus I would love the update ^_^

Happy Anniversary! One month ago today AT&T got their update, and soon after everyone else did too.

So you're the reason why I have to be placed on hold when I call customer service...

Not hardly, since I am chatting online.
how many feakin apps are you people putting on your phone. I have about 6GB free on my phone at all times, get a 64GB, root, flash something other than stock rom and be done with it. Stock ROM is a huge piece of poop anyway. Never seen so much Lag
OK, seriously people. I will be watching this thread. If anyone gets a notification of a new update, please give us a heads up as soon as you can.
I am fine running stock ROM, but Android 4.3 is very tempting. Too bad it is so unstable ATM.

I was asking about that the other day. I just want the Bluetooth fix...

Here is the official T-Moble explanation for the delay:
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4154
They mention in there that people should stop calling to bug the customer service folks, since they don't know anything more than what is in this document.

Thats not an official explanation for this instance, it was written a year and a half ago. Its a blanket statement that explains nothing that pertains to what the hold up this time is.

That is something about Android fans. Some are way too OCD about their updates. I wonder if Windows phone users do the same?
