Which forum would be the right place to talk about a commercial app (not mine, one I use). Thinking tweetcaster, a twitter client, for android. I use on SGS2.
It's a sw specific question not HW.
Couldn't figure if it fits into any of the fora?

Hi all, i don't know if it has been asked already but it would be great to have a light black&white forum "Development and Hacking" easy to load and browse from our PPCs/SPs exactly like the iPhone's app called Installer... ok, without all the "sources/install/uninstall" thing, only app name (with very short description like the one we can see if we mouseover a topic's name) and, clicking on it, the author description, link to the Dev&Hack forum article, link to the download, little screenshot or animated gif. And a tiny search engine (no Google)
I know there are websites made like that already like freewareppc or softonic which use RSS, but i was thinking about a more Installer-like webApp.
http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=j7rfU4r3Y-0
.. but there's probably something like that already, so i ask you guys and gals where can i find such a service and if you think it would be nice or totally useless
TBH this would take ages to compile and program and with every different model of HTC h/set out there I dont think anyone would have the resources or time to do this. I do really like the idea though kudos for that
Why not look at the App To Date over at MoDaCo?
livefastdiefun87, i don't think it should be that difficult to filter the threads (for example a "[release]" string in the thread title) as links to their first posts (the ones with descriptions, screenshots and downloads) to the user (maybe it's enough for the releaser to keep an eye on the format). For example A_C's releases already have the "required" things (first post: description and download, second post: faqs).
With a little help from any developer i think that even with pocket ie (although a client would be better) we can retrieve every release easier. Then, in order to explore the apps, the user can jump to the ordinary forum.
Maybe i'm making it too simple, but it wont be bad anyway. I'm thinking about a mobile-only road, no ads, no banners, black and white with hypertext
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone else had 2 issues I've run across since using the Facebook app from Marketplace:
1) Sometime when posting comments, it doesnt send to post, anyone have this problem?
2) Does the Facebook app always have to be re-freshed to see whats been posted instead of it notifying you when something gets posted?
3) I know everyone has the photo album not displaying issue I do too, but when I go to HTC Album, I have a freaking list of folders with either pix or no pix, how to I make them not appear in the HTC album when I am picking albums to view?
Thanx
I had the same issues as 1 and 2 and gave up on the app. I use the mobile website for everything except uploading pics, in which case I use the application.
Kind of a pain until someone smarter than me comes up with a good app.
Sux, dont want to use the website, I know they have it working on the blackberry where its real time updates, you'd think they would have done that with this lite app, whats the point of refreshing manually.
the app is pretty worthless, i rarely use it. the manual refresh is horrible. It'll only download the latest (say 25) posts, and if there are 35 new posts on your wall/feed and you refresh, it will only update 25, and when you scroll through them, it would go from the last of the latest 25 to the latest of when you previously refreshed so there would be a gap in your feed...
i use touch.facebook.com and lite.facebook.como via opera mobile and works out very well.
i no longer attempt to use it to post comments because what i found out is its posting on random old posts. it can cause you to say some things you really dont mean.
my other real issue is it will only load the first photo in an album and just sit there rather than opening the next. and of course you cant see who likes a post. hopefully microsoft will fix these little issues so it will be as complete as it is on an iphone or android.
TJoC,
Thanks for the laugh, Microsoft does as little as possible, and in their eyes it works, Being a expert in windows, dont expect MS to be adding anything to this app, MS rather have you jump to a 3rd party. The one that SHOULD make the app is Facebook themselves. But who are we? Just barnicles on the end of a stick.
I went so far to try the Xperia X1 panel facebook, as much as I like its functionality it also lacks simple basic features, like the ability to comment, like/dislike. You would think someone would be smart enough.
Your right, facebook does need to create the app.. They created the app for the iphone and android, what blackberry? did facebook create that or was that RIM?
also since WP7 is due to be released soon, i think MS dropped the development for this as social networking is a big focus for WP7
MS drops everything trying to make the big buck, if they set a dept up to take care of the little things like this, they'd be amazed how all the little cents would add up. They crippled WinMo 7, from everything I have heard and read, I'll stick to the flexibility of 6.5, not that its great, but sure beats the choking factor. If they are so big on social networking, they sure dropped the ball on that front.
So, Ive made the app for 1800PocketPC & thought I would make a thread about its development,
mostly because I need a bit of help from those with greater knowledge than me
Saijo (the owner of the site) has already made a thread about it over here CLICKY.
There is also a page on my website about it here: CLICKY
Features:
Displays the latest article from your chosen feed on the homepage.
Shows feeds from these different areas:
- News
- App Reviews
- Game Reviews
- General games news
- Free games news
- Xbox Live games news
Displays articles in a mobile friendly way.
Gives you the opportunity to contact the site or the developer (me).
Due to the youtube plugin not working in 3rd party apps, links to the
mobile youtube page are dynamically added to the menu.
The same applies to marketplace links, which would not open strait
from 3rd party apps, links are dynamically added to the menu instead.
You can view & add comments posted on any article.
There is landscape support throughout all but 1 part of the app.
You can also get achievements!
You can download the current version here:
Or you can like it on Facebook here CLICKY
Im currently working on the next major build, which will add:
Twitter & Facebook integration.
Overall UI improvements.
A better mobile reading experience.
Full portrait/landscape support.
Location based advertising off by default.
Now, what I need is help with at the moment is facebook & twitter.
I found a brilliant tut here & I transplanted some of the code from there, so It can now share articles to facebook.
My problems are these:
I don't know how to post to twitter.
I don't know how to get & display all posts from someone's facebook wall (namely the bestwp7games & 1800pocketpc pages)
I don't know how to get & display all posts from someone's twitter account :/
So yeah, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Google hath fail'd me
Being as polite as possible, you need to search. If you ask questions like "how do I ..." you're not really progressing as a developer, as the two services you mentioned have amazingly detailed and well-defined APIs.
I will point you to the kind of Google queries I use to find these answers, that way you can keep developing without wasting time waiting for other people to answer:
Twitter: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=update+twitter+status+c#
FB Wall Posts: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...ebook+wall+posts+c#&pbx=1&fp=b0dc1443d535784d
Recent Tweets: http://www.google.co.uk/search?sour...&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&pbx=1&fp=b0dc1443d535784d
Thanks. You're right, I probably should have searched more.
I was a bit afraid Id find something & try working with it only to find it didnt work with WindowsPhone :/
So as the title states, I'm not only new to the forum, but to the whole world of stock/custom ROMs, and about 95% of the vernacular that appears in your typical conversations.
Before opening this thread, I did read a few others on the subject of Open Mobile users successfully using customized ROMs of other carriers, but with the loss of 3G and/or MMS. (By the way, the feature that shows similar threads under the title box- genius.) I, too, have fallen into that unfortunate category, but with a stock ROM belonging to Metro PCS. It was completely unintentional, the changeover.
After the first 10 minutes of freaking the out, I got my act together and found this forum, among others with not a single solution to my problem, or that of other users with a situation similar to mine.
I would simply like to know if anyone has been able to fix this problem.
As proof I've check other threads,
-This one is for an HTC Hero and in page 2, post #11, someone offers a possible solution, but the person referred to doesn't respond. And I can't really understand what it says.
-This one offers three posts of nothingness.
-This oneseems to have a user inventing a Battleship/Bingo hybrid with all them numbers and less-than-average use of periods.
I appreciate any help anyone offers. And if I posted this in the wrong section, feel free to move it as needed.
Again, thanks.
As a follow-up, today I realized that I could access the Play Store by using 3G only. I could also browse/download apps and use apps that require internet/data connections, such as Words with Friends and Draw Something.
Basically, all I lack now it internet access (I was able to download another browser even just to make sure it wasn't the original one that was FUBAR) and MMS capability (I can receive pictures, but not 100%; more like 90%).
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hey guys. I was browsing Google Play Store (like I do every night at work ) and I came across this app called Tapestry, It's pretty much a photo sharing app and I was wondering if It could be the equivelent to the S3's share shot feature. Here's the links to play store and Google I/O interview for app below. Seems like a pretty cool app and kinda similar to S3's share shot feature

Hey BigSmooth. A few of us on the forum stumbled onto the app just like you. They've since updated the app to offer support back down to Gingerbread. Great move, because previously, with Jelly Bean only support, it would've been hard to get users. I think the reference you're making to Samsung is the Galaxy SIII's "Group Share" feature. I have many friends w/ GSIII, but none of them use it because they tell me it takes like 15 clicks to get it setup. I wonder why Samsung keeps advertising this feature when it works so poorly on their phones. I guess they think it is a cool and popular use case. But based on how I've been using Tapestry with friends and family, I think it is easier to use (3 clicks to setup vs. 15), and works on 85% of all Android phones (instead of just GSIII) now that they have Gingerbread support. Tapestry also has synchronized pinch/zoom/panning, as we as real-time P2P download of images. My wife thinks it is pretty nifty she can grab whatever images she likes right then and there.
