Does anyone else has problems with the phone beeing slow?
Sometimes when i want to call somebody and i press contacts it can take like 30 sec before anything happens, Same thing with apps and mail.
And there is like 20MB free of RAM. To bad this Phone has a great CPU at 1,4Ghz but RAM is really low. I think that will be the phones death..

Yeah, when I first got it it was really slow but it's much better after the last update. Still a little slower than I would have thought.
Any phone will become slow if you have too many things running all at once.. If your free ram hover around 20mb, i bet that you're instaling too many Go product.. It could be due to too many widgets, facebook apps also could be the culprit for taking too much ram..

Whats the point of having allot or storage if you cant make use of it for like apps ...
and why make a phone with so little RAM, And btw why can i only use 350MB?
The phone has 512 like my old Blade and i had like 200MB free on that. With the same apps.
I have like 4 widgets.
Allso Go SMS Pro.
Only have the usual facebook app.
Here is my homescreen after reboot:

Still.. Feels slow due to the lack of RAM.
have been thinking about getting an S2 instead but i want to wait for a ROM like CM and try it out.
and what about the 350MB limit on the RAM?
Most phones are now designed to use up all the RAM unless they have to let it go.
So ideally, you WANT to have only 20mb of RAM left. That way all your phone is being used, no point putting 1gb of RAM if all you're going to do is leave it empty.
I recommend the App RAM Manager Free
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smartprojects.RAMOptimizationFree&hl=en
Also, I'd recommend you run some tests, using your Task killer, close one app at a time and check the speed of the phone. I'd bet one of these apps is a hog!
To give you an idea, the phone can be very fast. My AnTuTu score is 3817, and I have no lag at all...

2Gb Internal SD and 1GB ROM is more than enough for my apps and pictures.
First of all try like Vyker said. Close programs one by one and check free Ram after u closed 1 program. Well maybe u should try to flash latest Rom because what u saying is weird for me. With energy saver on, wi-fi off all 3rd programs off my Antutu score is 3827 and i have 0 lag. I use latest official Rom 2.3.6 I8150XXKL3. In normal use i have about 130mb free ram and after i clean ram memory i have about 140-160.
Try supercharger script

I still am on stock 2.3.5 but am not experiencing any lag after doing the following:
1. Use only 3 home screens down from default of 5. I tried using 2 and it's even faster.
2. Minimized the use of widgets unless really necessary.
3. Move as much apps to SD if possible using App2SD.
4. Apply several build.prop tweaks.
5. Apply V6 Supercharger script.
6. Change stock launcher to ADW Ex Launcher.
RAM on boot is around 250MB-260MB and feels buttery smooth.
Solution on my own

I have the same problem. For the first year of using GT-I8150 everything was fine, than it became rapidly slow - loading contacts, messages, missed-call list and when return to he homescreen it took time to load even default icons.
So i restored whole phone - it got better for a few months, but became slow again.
Tried everything - restoring, deleting apps, clearing memory... none helped.
Solution? I got iPhone
finding another rom is the best thing to do now
i have a problem too with my phone...when it was in stock rom...the fone lags in homescreen even app drawer when i scroll from left to right and back to left again...am i the only 1 who have this problem with the fone? anyone?

Right now I'm running FXP054 with the kernel OC'd to 1.4GHz. I also have cut down on a lot of running services in the background through the Autostarts app [ https://market.android.com/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts ].
What would be the best governor, I/O scheduler, & OC for the CM7.2.0 CDMA kernel?
What build.prop settings should I apply to get the most out of 3D gaming?
Any other options/settings/apps that I should be aware of for better gaming performance in general on my Xperia Play?
I'd greatly appreciate any insight. Thanks.
Download the Ram Manager pro app from the market. Use the default balance option when not gaming and use the hard gaming option when gaming.
I've tried all tweaks and zips and governors and everything possible. This application has made the biggest difference so far. Especially the lock home launcher option.
How much of a difference between that & the v6 Supercharged script in terms of performance?

Night and day. It's very difficult to give empirical evidence, so metaphors are about the best you'll get from me
V6 supercharger had zero to little effect overall. It did lock the launcher SOMETIMES, but other than that had very little effect on performance.
Ram manager pro is giving me a lot of performance and the different profiles are very clear and understandable. Unlike the vague and ambiguous settings on the supercharger.
I'll have to try that app out. How well does it do with Gameloft games? I tried Asphalt 6 last night & it ran well for a while until it decided to slow to a crawl on screen. I'm aiming to get a consistent gaming experience regardless of 2D or 3D.

That app actually doess nothing at all for the launcher.
Its the grouping shift without changing a single priority.
Its all about aggressive task killing without user input and that's it.
Use Update 9 RC4 as it has more options for high ram devices and makes recommendations based on ram.
Sounds like you used Update 8.

I did indeed use update 8. I will give the latest a try.
You say it does nothing for the launcher but I'm seeing some fantastic results i.e the launcher literally never dies.
It had to redraw once after playing modern combat 3, and the whole phone slowed to a crawl unexpectedly for 10 seconds and then back to normal. Other than that the application has been great.
Using the script, the launcher died regardless of which setting I chose even when it said I had a "hard to kill" launcher or whatever. It would work for a while but redraws were too common. Also, all tutorials seemed based around motorola phones so I had difficulty finding what options would suit mine the best.
Regardless, I'm grateful for fantastic devs like you, and this script is undeniably innovative. Expect a donation at the end of the month
EDIT:
IGNORE EVERYTHING I SAID EARLIER, HOLY CRAP UPDATE 9 RC4 IS DAMN GOOD.
Seriously, I uninstalled Ram Manager pro, it's totally unnecessary.
Supercharger update 9 RC4 using option 6 has been flawless for me.

What apps should be bullet-proofed? I'm using script for the purpose of getting better gaming performance.
I just uploaded an RC5 test so try that
I meant the launcher... so if you eve get any redraw, pick bulletproof launcher so it can't be killed but then again if you don't have enough ram to load big games then the default die hard launcher is good enough... it should still almost never happen.

Hi Zeppelin!
I would to test now Update 9 RC5. What ins the best Option for Play. On Update 8 i use Option 6 or 9 (MegaRam 2) but 6 feels smoother in the Launcher & UI.
Gesendet von meinem R800i mit Tapatalk
Test the calculated values as they are based on your actual ram.
I added that feature for device that fell between the HP group settings.
I tried to calculate balanced values but course you can tweak them to be more or less aggressive by playing with the slot 3 value as that has the biggest effect on typical free ram.
The other great addition is the auto calculated min_free_kbytes value so that you won't ever get too low on free ram while allowing for apps to be cached for speed.
Thanks for answer. I now use Option 10 Custom Settings on U9 RC5. Launcher is Die Hard.

Do you think you could post a video of yourself playing with the browser? I have one preordered and would like to see how it performs as that is one of the only reasons why I am upgrading from my Nexus One.
RAM is there to be used. As long as you don't experience any out of memory issues and RAM gets freed up when it's needed, any less usage would be a complete waste of memory.
I never found the task manager useful when I had my old Sensation.
The task manager cannot tell the amount of RAM used by active processes (apps) and those been cached. I'd bet half of the RAM are used by cached app, which Android will empty in reverse order if it need more RAM, best go to running process in App section of settings to find out the REAL RAM usage.
P.S. I think there is a setting in the Dev section where you can have a pop up message when RAM is low (80mb).

Just to clear you up, it doesn't matter if the RAM is used or not, it does not affect on the battery life.

I got 397 running on my DHD and 484 last time I checked on my One X....
This doesn't sound good. I do all my phone web browsing in "desktop" mode as mobile versions of sites often are ****. I use opera mobile and easily use up 120-140 mb ram with "only" 4 tabs. Fortunately opera has the possibility to enable an exit button that clears everything before exiting, but if I don't want to lose a tab yet I have to close the other tabs so the phone don't get sluggish. I have an LG optimus black with 512 mb ram but I'm soon getting the one X.
I don't understand how this works tbh.
I fail to see how Sense 4 takes more ram than Sense 3.6 considering it's "meant" to be more slimline.
Is this just the nature of all Android devices perhaps being portrayed wrong by the task killer?
When I kill everything from task manager I got this. Sometimes I got +500mb free ram.
Has anybody with a one X had Sense restarts? This was my biggest issue with the Sensation where after doing memory heavy tasks like web browsing a ton when you went to the home screen it would have to reload Sense since Android dumped it from memory to create space for apps. I really hate this and its been a problem on HTC phones for a while.
Fyi. 256MB or so of your memory is allocated for graphics so you're starting off with 744MB and so 200-300MB of that is used by the kernel and running services. Having 300MB-400MB free is perfectly normal. My Nexus has 350MB free on average and there's no Sense.

Except when I tried(for fun) opening 5 or 6 videos at the same time(using stick it player), and surely the homescreen redrew, hehe expected because of little RAM left for Sense.

On CM9, you can enable KSM (Kernel Samepage Merging), which gives you about 15-20 MB additional usable RAM, through deduplicating memory pages.
Until Alpha 5, there were 364 MB RAM available on CM, with Alpha 6 it now decreases to 352 due to buffer/shared memory requierements from 720p recording.
OP asks about Stock ROM.....
CM9 def not Stock!!
IMHO, V6 works well on Stock GB...that's what I have, and it flies, of course along with KAK and 3G Turbocharger also from Zepp...

Right..
Although, there might be a little chance, that KSM is included in the stock kernel, one could try it by executing
echo 1 > /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/run
There are some scripts, like the Supercharger, that modifiy minfree values and OOM groupings.
You can try those, but from what i have seen of it, you jump out of the frying pan into the fire in many use cases, so i wouldn't agree to the hype around them.
However, if you got the time for some experimenting, you can give it a try.
Generally:
- Have a clean base installation (no modifications left from various "tuning runs")
- Install only the apps you really nead, with special regard to resource-intensive background apps such as Facebook, Widgets etc.
- Look out for the enhancements available in your ROM, like KSM, zRam, (normal) swapping etc.
- Don't use automatic task killers
- You might also experiment with LMK values (e.g. through the scipts mentioned) etc., althouth be aware what your focus is: multitasking, games, no launcher redraws. Many settings here are trade-offs.
There's another easy way is to install ROM toolbox from playstore. Go to performance page and use the auto memory manager. Remember this is only for rooted stock, and need to install in the internal memory not SD card. After choose the option that you want, do check apply on boot. It will work like v6 script also.

This is a good apps to define how u gonna use the system. For RAM management , please make sure u know what to run at the critical part and whats not. The best practice is to maintain usage of a few apps that will be stalled as running apps. Clear ur rams once its getting slow or when it reach 300 for instance.

Do you flash custom kernel? Sometimes, the cause of it is undervolting. Try to flash non-UV kernels.
Go with pristine if you flash custom kernels prior to newly flash rom. Maybe a residue in the previous rom.
i didn't do pristine the last time ive reflashed my rom,,,,
and screen wake lock happens from time to time,,
but ive somehow managed to solve that,, accidentally,,
just dont know if it will work for you,,
here's what ive did,,,
1. seeders _-- the latest one,,
2. wonderTweaksV5_overwrite;;;; this one says he modded the ondemand and clocked his phone to 1Ghz only,, so i copied him,,,
3. Disable CPU rendering,,,
4, check 16 bit transparency in Settings/ performance..
5. check KERNEL SAMEPAGE merging in Settings/ performance/ Memory management.
6. check FORCE GPU RENDERING in settings/ developers options. as well as the Kill APP BAck Button,,,
7. install Speed boost,(can be found in a*p*k*m*a*n*i*a dotcom), and let it clean my system,, and run in background,,,
8. reboot to recovery once a day just to
wipe cache as well as FIx permission... never bother to do wipe dalvik cache,, as booting takes time in my phone as well as i have link2sd in my phone..
I'm not saying its the fix,,, but just telling everyone,, that this is what ive done to my phone,, even without going pristine,,,,my phone is such a wonder

This problem is a sleep to death while trying to deep sleep. Try raising your min clock speed to 200+ . this problem happens when the phone's clock speed is too low for too long that it couldn't wake up anymore.

I have a few advises for you ;D
1- Turn off "force GPU rendering" some apps get slowed down when it's on
2- try "auto memory manager" from the play store and set m change the min-free values
My settings are these

They are pretty extreme If you ask me but great for gaming and gives you some free multi tasking when needed.
With my settings you will never get a full ram this would kill every thing to give you the ram to use lol
3- apps that run in the background take ram (not much but they still do) replace Facebook with friend caster for Facebook as out takes less ram and looks cooler

Sorry the pic was actually my old settings (sorry) this pic is just a slight less extreme but does the same job

thanks for the info ..
but as ive said in my last 2 posts,, after doing those steps,,, my screen_turned_black issue had never bothered me again,,
and i've got no problems as of today,,,
though,, ive got one question w/c still bugs me up to now,,
why is it that an android os lags when using link2sd particularly when linkinvg 20 or more apps to the 2nd partition,, both on my galaxy wonder as well as xperia x8..
even when setting my phone to performance governor,,
and when the phone lags,, it started to have a screen_turned_black issue again,,
so my only alternative is that i have to press the screen so that it wont turn the screen off,, coz when it does,,, ive got no other way but to remove its battery:crying:

This is what I'm getting now and IDK WHY. I have tried zram on any percentage, it doesn't help.
This is weird because I used to get like 160 or 140 free always, and now this.
On my signature is my whole system, I rebooted the phone on the morning and now 12 hours later, I have that ram. Not a lot of usage, music, whatsapp, few sms and general browsing on 2G and wifi.. :x
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.omichsoft.taskmanager
Inviato da me!
I don't want a task manager, I want to know why once my phone had a behaviour of perfect free ram at some acceptable range and now it's like this and going like on 50mb too..
It is normal because Jelly Bean caches up to 10 apps instead of 5 apps in ICS.

so it's normal to have ~70 ~50 mb of ram free? o-o I mean, it's hard to believe due to what I have said 3 times in a row, weeks ago my average was always up to 140, sometimes reaching 200.
Reboot ur phone once in a day
And to a fact, free ram doesnt matter at all. Are you facing lags when u have 50-60 mb free ram? Free ram is wasted ram in some context

I reboot my phone daily, read OP.
Yeah I have read that before somewhere.. actually no I don't experience lags but I'm worried about battery life and wakelock and that kind of stuff.

Wakelock and battery life related to free ram???
I dont know how. Use better battery stats for all info on wakelocks and properly evaluated battery life
Nd use gb if you want "free ram"

Unusual lack of RAM = Things that SHOULDN'T be running are running somehow, therefore, more battery usage, more battery drain.
That's what logic tells me, otherwise, if wrong, correct~
My battery life is actually.. normal.. good.. o3o!

Your logic is right bt this can even happen due to lots of apps installed and almost all app eats little ram so low on ram

You can try using greenify. Works fine for me.

That's why i suggest you this task manager...
I know there are many point of view about it(free ram is wasted ram, linux is different from Windows..blablabla..)but is a fact that after i use this TM(enabling root access too)my phone runs smoother and faster...(250 mb free ram on ICS)

Those kind of task manager apps are useless as most apps have background processes that can only be terminated with root access. Without root privilege to close them, they will just restart in the background and take up RAM space. Greenify will prevent that by closing the background processes and keeping them hibernate. Those apps also take up space on your phone and use up battery.

I would use greenify instead, one push to hibernate and close running apps.

Heres mine.
Try to disable zram.
Boot cwm and clear cache and dalvk.
Ps. Got any scrips or mods running?

The OP screenshot was without zram, I have tried everything with zram. No mods or scripts running, it's a clean install though, shouldn't need another cache wipe. Right now it fluctuates between 80, 90 and 115 mb free, so I think it's normal or close to normal now. Got my questions answered too, thanks everyone.
And yeah, I have tried greenify but once, using it, I got 17mb of free ram xD and never tried it again.

Install Swapper and Seeder. I'm currently on MIUI which usually takes a lot more ram than any other rom. But with those two apps in combo my phone is breathing again!
