My hunt for the perfect calendar widget - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello all.
I am hunting for the perfect calendar widget. I have tried a few.
I am keeping stock as possible, so no chance for mods/hacks/roots etc. I've tried the stock calendar app, simple calendar widget, forte etc etc.
What I am looking for is a minimalistic look, that will allow me to have a transparent background, and also let me control fonts. Simple calendar widget was ALMOST perfect but it didn't let me customize the way I wanted to.
I would love it to look like minimal reader pro (google reader app).
Any suggestions?

I use pure calendar and pure grid calendar with the supplied transparent theme.
Edit: can't pick your font

Advanced Pro Widgets with the ICS Theme and Transparency looks good and has agenda/calendar toggle.

APW

Forget everything else, use Tabr widget. It offers the following advantages:
1) Tabbed interface for SNS and calendar - nice workaround to the five-home-screen limitation
2) It picks up birthdays from your contacts and includes them in the calendar.
There are some performance issues, but still it rocks.

The Whizz/Wizz Calendar widget is the best. The blue top bar theme and transparent gray background looks so good with ICS, and it's scrollable.

I used for about a year Smooth Calendar (it is a dedicated widget, quite configurable).
These days I'm using Jorte calendar which is a calendar and also has a long list of widgets.

Jorte as well here. TONS of options and layouts as well as color choices. You will not be disappointed.

+1 on jorte, you can have a 4x4 or 4x3 widget of the entire month with appointments showing up as text rather than colored blocks. i've been using jorte for over a year, and after trying most of the calendar apps, this one offers it all.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I like your wallpaper. Where did you get it? Can you share?

I use Jorte, as well.. and I believe, with Jorte, you can change the fonts..
UPDATE: just tested, and Jorte allows you to download one of their fonts, or you can add a font to the Jorte\Fonts folder and change to it.

i don't remember when i got it. here's a dropbox link to the file as is from the screen, the size is way out of whack, but it scales nicely and gives room to reposition.
Calvin & Hobbes Stars

I recommend pure calendar widget, it makes a nice list, is scrollable, and has a great honey comb theme which matches ics great. here's a screen.

Totally recommend Jorte in terms of calendar widget.

I'm a big fan of agenda widget. Ridiculous number of configuration options and well maintained.

APW Calendar for me.

I use Business Calendar, it was one of Amazon's free app of the day a while ago. Can customize colors and background, not the font though. There are lots of customizations, maybe email the dev and he'll add custom fonts.

I'm very surprised no one has mentioned Touch Calendar... It seems to do the job for me and does it well.
EDIT: Screw that. APW is awesome. Disregard Touch Calendar, acquire APW

Once I found Android Agenda Widget, I stopped my search for Calendar Widgets.
Here is a pic (not my phone)
It is highly customizable and supports scrollable widgets and has never given me any trouble. And the best thing is it's free!

Thanks a ton! I tried a bunch of different C&H screens, but none worked well on my phone. This is perfect and will also help with some battery savings!
Here is a quick edit I did in GIMP. I added some black space at the bottom if you want to crop the image in the wallpaper settings so as to push Calvin and Hobbes up and over the launcher dock (I'm using stock launcher). I also removed all the stars because they weren't looking as nice on the phone and distracting from my widgets and icons.

Sense widgets on Launcher Pro/Alt. Calendar?

So I love Launcher Pro for its bottom dock and screen rotation features, but I really miss the calendar agenda view widget on Sense. Is there a way to get the sense widget on launcher pro? I've tried alternatives like Pure Calendar, Cal Widget, etc. But they don't seem to be scrollable and are straight up ugly compared to Sense's widgets. Suggestions?
sense widgets only work on rosiehome.
Try smooth calendar, I have it setup to look exactly like I did with my sense calendar
Sweet widget, I was using S2 but like Smooth better
Also the "Pure" calendar widgets.

I, like you OP was sad when i switched to launcherpro that I couldn't use the calendar widgets, and i know some have already been posted, but one that I found that was basically exactly what I wanted, and it working great for me (and really customizable) is Android Agenda Widget by Everybody All the Time.
I don't know if you really care about this either, but for a clock replacement I have DigiClock (2x1 widget), and for SMS widget/icon to tell me how many unread msgs I have (since the stock msg icon doesn't tell you when not in sense) SMS Unread Count by kanokgems.
That's all that I've really replaced in terms of HTCs widgets, and just what I like.

Launcher pro plus has that widget. $2.99
+1 for Android Agenda Widget. It's not as beautiful as the sense widget, but it supports all sizes which makes it great because with gtasks and that, I've gotten closer to having my tasks in my calendar as google should have done already.
if you get the plus version of launcher pro you get a very very sense like, contact widget, book mark widget, messaging widget and CALANDER widget. these are almsot identical to sense in looka nd function. I highly recomend if you use launcher pro and like sense widgets to jsut upgrade the the plus version

I love launcher pro and the widgets. Only problem is the Agenda/Calendar widget are very basic. There are no options for selecting what calendar(s) to display
you have to set it up for agenda...
jorte is nice too!!!
i've learned to do with sense...all the calendars and friendstream widgets can be replaced
to the OP that said pure cant scroll...you have to check scrollable widgets in the launcherpro settings...

Totally agree with you. I'm soooo annoyed by the fact that I can't choose which calendar to/not to display on the widget. other than that, it's perfect.
COLOR WIDGET free in the market. It has Sense style widgets for Bookmarks, Twitter, Facebook and Calendar!

Launcher Pro (free) uses an sms count if you put SMS in the dock. Menu + Preferences + Dock Settings + Unread SMS Count. Also one for Missed Calls and GMAIL.
If you buy the pro version you get all the "sense" apps you were missing and can resize them. Why r ppl so cheap?! A good product is worth paying for.

Yes, the default calendar widget that comes with the phone will sync with google calendar if you have 'Calendar' selected in Settings->Accounts & Sync->[your google account]

Type "smooth calender" (without quotes) in the market place. It is a god widget that syncs with your android calender app (google). You can change certain colors and things in the settings. I recommend it.

How do I get it to show the full month calendar on the widget instead of just one day??

You could download launcher pro and upgrade to launcher pro plus. It has a scrollable calendar widget. To be honest, it's the only lp+ widget I use

Unfortunately smooth calender only lets you see up to 3 days of events. I haven't looked for a full calender widget for the day view is what I want.

I like Jorte more than the others. The others prob have a better UI, but Jorte has better features for what I need. It has multiple midgets available, and allows you to link to your dialer AND map/nav app from within an appointment/note/task!
hurray for jorte and his midgets
I'm personally a big fan of Biz calendar (or business Calendar).
I set mine to go straight to full month view when clicked on and have many options for how to have the widget on the home screen set up.
Nice, fast and versatile.
I tried smooth and it didn't give me what I needed, but then I have 2 calenders and I have 3 others from colleagues and friends that I want to keep an eye on
Good luck in your search
+1 for Jorte and Business Calendar.
Believe me, I have checked out a lot of homescreen calendar widgets as I use my phone primarily as a PDA. Jorte and Business Calendar have the best full-month homescreen widgets in my opinion, and both support text display for appointments rather than useless time bars. They are also both free!
I think Jorte has the edge visually - it is very clean and crisp. Right now though, I am using Business Calendar because when you tap on a day on the widget, you can go straight to day view in the app. That is perfect for me, and Jorte can't do that yet.
Here is some linkage:
Business Calendar (Free Version)
Jorte
simple calendar is cool, it doesnt have grid month view, but it can show as much events can fit in the screen, no matter how long its to it. i have set it to show events from next month, bit overkill if you have lots of events but, works.
Jorte
Personally, I like Jorte because I can put my full calendar and tasks as a widget on my screen.

(Q) Alternative to Pure Calendar Widget?

Hi,
What widget do you use to display calendar entries, tasks, etc.?
One of most popular is Pure Calendar Widget, but it is very ugly ...
The wodget itself is very powerful.
If it has ICS theme, beautiful skin, that would be perfect. Checked its skinning system and bit confusing, no wonder there are not a lot skins available. All sucks, old style rounded corner box with no padding!
I have been using Android Pro Widget. I use it over Pure Calendar widget.
Yeah Android Pro Widgets are great.
Jorte is a great calendar app that really nice looking widgets.
Pure calendar is very powerful and provides some rather optimized view of calendars...
If there would be a way to make the widget use more of the available screen real estate it would be great.
Also, resizable Widgets instead of many different size ones would be very convenient.
APW is very good...also try Wizz ...i use pieces of each and alternate...
Android Pro Widgets here.
Pure GRID Calendar. You can set it to show your events and description words from within the calendar days, so you can see your tasks for the whole month in the calendar view right on your home screen
does anyone know of any calendar widgets that are 4x5? i used to always use pure grid calendar and pure calendar but it bothers me that they dont fill the screen anymore
Android Pro Widgets. It's free and has Twitter, Facebook, People, Calendar, etc.
I bought the Premium License because the themes are really cool... plus I wanted to show my support. Basically they are Launcher Pro Widgets without the Launcher Pro. APW finally freed me to use other Alternative Launchers.
Very handy.

Applications & Widgets for the Galaxy Nexus (What's Your Favorite?)

I've decided to start this thread because like others I'm always looking for new Applications & Widgets for my device. With the massive amount of Application releases each day it's quite time consuming to constantly keep up to date let alone test out each of these.
With that said, what are some Applications / Widgets you simply cannot live without? Those that look good on the homescreen / lockscreen / etc.
If you'd like to include a screenshot with your post as well that'd be great, let's build a good list for people who aren't familiar with all the Applications the Android Market has to offer!
--
With that said I'd have to put Poweramp in the list, it's simply the best Application for music with a ton of options.

Quite simple really...
1.) Just download the image you want to look up.
2.) Edit that image to crop out unnecessary details.
3.) Upload that image to Google Image Search.
4.) Profit.

Sure. Here you go. I edited the Mario one so that there is more black space to align with homescreens properly. Added an extra one for fun. These images aren't mine... I found these on the "post your homescreen thread" here at XDA.
Just started using WidgetLocker these past few days, seems it's transitioned into more of a stable application for the Nexus. I'm having no noticeable lag at this time.
WidgetLocker Lockscreen

My must-have apps/widgets would be:
BeWeather Pro - very nice weather app with an assortment of widget sizes that can be skinned via BeWeather skins OR Beautiful Widget skins.
PlayerPro - Music app that I absolutely love. Has a fantastic GUI, great sound quality and the dev is very responsive. I've tried just about every music app out there and this is one fits my musical needs best.
XiiaLive - Awesome internet radio station app that plays Shoutcast stations. Use this to blast my internet dance radio stations through my car stereo while having my Gnex paired to it via Bluetooth).
Equalizer (by Smart Android Apps) - Great EQ app that I use to have equalized sound in the various music apps on my phone (PlayerPro, Google Music, XiiaLive, Digitally Imported, etc.).
CarHome Ultra - Fantastic app that takes care of the problem of Samsung taking forever-and-a-day to release their stupid official car dock for the Gnex by having the option to automatically put my phone in car mode when my phone connects to my car stereo over Bluetooth. Love this app!
gReader Pro - Best RSS reader I've found that can access Google Reader feeds. Again, tried many, many various RSS apps out there and this one stomps them all (for my needs anyway).
Nova Launcher - Takes the native ICS launcher and kicks it up a notch with some very nice extra features. Kinda funny/sad that it does a better job with controlling lag when using the stock ICS Live Wallpapers than Google's own native launcher.
Pure Calendar - Skinnable widget that can pull my Google Calendar and Touchdown Exchange calendar data together and display them all very nicely in a scrollable widget. The dev of the "Pure" series of apps/widgets really does a great job with all of the apps in this line.
iSyncr - Fantastic app that allows me to sync my iTunes-based playlists on my iMac to my Gnex. Also has a companion app to do the syncing wirelessly.
Google Voice - For all the options it gives to deal with voicemail messages, spam calls/texts, not to mention free texting! Been using this since it became available and I think I'd pretty much die without it now. haha
WiFi File Explorer Pro - Handy app that allows me to access my phone from my computer over my home wifi network.
----------------------
Sorry if this list it a bit long but these are all the apps I use regularly and would dearly miss if they were to go away.

Hey man I tried sending you a message but apparently XDA is real screwy and need to get some bugs fixed. anyway...I was wondering how you got the mclock widget to resize to fit the nexus' screen. I used the .xml file from Red X but he made the width 420 so it shows up really small on the nexus screen. If you could let me know how to resize it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a Sense like app that is more clock than weather, Fancy Widgets or Beautiful widgets are both good. I personally prefer Fancy Widgets.

I use beautiful Widgets for the week forecast, but I also like the weather info in AOKP.
I have used and like the Widgets for Weather bug, 1Weather, and of course Beautiful Widgets.
I wish there were more Widgets available that don't look like HTC Sense. IMO

Damn, that's nice!
beautiful widge ts for sure, best way to go
1weather because its attractive and has an innovative layout. Doesn't look like every other weather app. 2x2 widget is nice, I hardly ever open the app. The only thing I wish is that the background color could be changed. The brown is a bit weird...
I use SiMi Clock and it's weather. I don't like the huge sun on the Sense weather clones. I use the SiMi weather icon as a launcher and use 1Weather for detailed information.
Aix Weather Widget and The Weather Channel (mainly because it has weather maps).
1weather. Most elegant I've ever seen.

I use HD Widgets, bought it when it was part of the Google 10c sale a while back.
I do like the sense-clone weather widgets and this one offers some really nice customisation options. I have it setup with a more flat background so it matches in nicely with the Simi Calendar widget.
just tried android weather and I must admit that it's veeery nice..
As for accuracy.....
I tested several apps, and WeatherBug Elite clearly had the most accurate forecasts for me.
I also like Minimalistic Text but it's woefully short on features. I cannot seem to get rid of the damn location.
I would love a simple 3 day option in place of the city.
I also see what you guys mean about 1weather. I do like that it puts it into the notification shade though. That's very cool. Pretty much useless temp number in the corner. The font is way to small but that feature is nice as well.
Simple Weather Alert is neat in a old school kind of way.
