Hi All ,
I am starting a new job that's require a lot of dates, deadlines to follow,To Do List and of course mails and phone calls !
so what is the best ROM to do that job ? is it better to install MIUI as example to get the most free Ram and using apps for every thing i want to do ? Or Sense ROM is good enough in that and can get the job done ?
What's the best apps u recommend me to use whatever the ROM i am using ?
Thanks a lot and waiting your help

1) For recieving calls you should be okay with any rom. Would be funny if a rom didn't have a phone app
2) For mails i suggest you try the app "K-9 Mail". I'm really happy with it's functionality. (But of course there are probably a lot of very similar apps out there)
3) For dates/deadlines i use the build-in calendar which syncs with the google calendar. Means you can access it from your phone, via a browser or a lot of desktop programms like thunderbird. As a frontend i use the "go calendar" widget, but i guess any calendar widget will do.
4) For To-Do lists i've got no idea.
5) Since you need the phone for business purposes, you should see to it that you get as much battery life as possible. You don't want your phone dying on you shortly after you recieved an important email and thus can't respond. Also for calls a dead phone isn't that great.
For that you should look into setting up your phone so it doesn't constantly drain your battery.
One bad thing about stock roms is the bloatware. I had real problems with google maps because it was constantly keeping my phone awake (and there are other apps like it). Now that i have cyanogenmod installed, my phone runs at least 10 hours more just because the bloatware is gone.
A rom like cyanogenmod can additionally bring you more standby time since you can set the cpu frequency 245MHz. I'm still able to make calls with that and everything like mails and calendar is still working. Only scrolling can drive you nuts (for instance if you are surfing with the browser...but you shouldn't be doing that anyway ). And you can always reset the frequency if you need more power.
Another great life extender are apps like juicedefender, that activate your mobile connection (and i think wifi too) only for a couple of minutes every 30 minutes or so (mobile connection meaning the data connection...it doesn't mess with the normal connection so you can still recieve and make calls).
Let's say you have a setup where your mobile connection gets activated every 30 minutes for 2 minutes. That's 4 instead of 60 minutes per hour and should save you a lot of energy. (And almost nobody needs to get emails instantaneously. Especially if you sit infront of your PC. Then you don't need your phone at all )
You don't NEED to make your phone go longer on one charge. You can always carry around a micro-usb cable and/or a wall charger if you really have to.
But i like it if i don't have to worry about my phone all day and only have to recharge it every other day.

I use Oxygen ROM ported for DHD. This ROM is awesome. Amazingly (or should I say extremely) fast, and the most amazing thing is the battery life. Normal usage (few phone calls, checking emails, etc) can last you for 1.5 days. The quadrant score is remarkable (even I got > 2000 with under clocked ROM in 768Mhz).
I installed Street Fighter IV (yes..it's warez one, but since everybody was talking about the choppiness of the sound, I gave it a try), and only this ROM gave me no choppy sound, especially if I OC it to 1.5GHz, even in 1GHz, the sound came from the game wasn't that really bad.

For work.. Sense 3.5 kicks A**S!!
...if your company uses exchange 2007/10(offsite/onsite)... a sense 3.5 ROM goes a long way!
Our company uses an in-house exchange 2010 server and it works like a dream with my DHD flashed with RCMix3D Runny 4.0 (stock with no themes... except maybe an UOT kitchen to change icons and transitions.. >_<)
Syncs very well your Outlook Exchange email, calendar, contacts and even tasks, and the widgets for the features are a godsend and looks cool enough to make even the iPhone4S zombies in the company green with envy!
I also have decent Remote Access through Pocketcloud using RDP/VNC since we also have Terminal Server. However, I'd still work remotely using my little netbook should i need to.... >_<
For my Music & Movies to keep me sane during home-work public transit, I use Poweramp and DicePlayer respectively.
And games like Shadowgun, Dungeon Hunter 2, Samurai 2 Vengance (and more tbh) are present and working very well on my phone despite its already intensive usage.
Hope this helps with your query... ^_^

your idea of a perfect rom

whats your idea of a perfect rom? whats it got to have on it? or is there already a perfect rom already? my idea of a perfect rom, basically has a great battery life, can run many games perfectly and has opera mini and doesnt suffer from hard resets.....
Well each use their phone differently. Personally what's on my signature is spot on. I have no issues as I run skyfire browser. Pushes email with exchange 2k7 I don't play games on my phone as it is purely a business device.
A light ROM that has a device update type program to add whatever you want. I would love to say something with M2D or something along those lines but I dont really like any of the options so far. I would rather have it clean and simple and be able to build from there.
Phone function should be fast
I have noticed few other devices of Windows Mobile 6.1, they don't have any problem with the dialer and phone system. Its fast and responsive but here in Hermes it seems its not focused. I am using Faria's Last rom and working fine but yes the phone function is same as before. I have video caller installed and wanted to stay with it otherwise what is the use of 3G network and video phone I have.
ok lets see...
Many problems arent rom issues like Hardresets sooo lets center on my point...
1.- Conections are the future... share is the pulse of new hybrid devices so...
R---- It cant has Bluetooth issues i would like to send from beam a file via BT or pair a stereo headphones without troubles, has BT folder FTP. IRDA fully functional i mean Push via beam and receive too... many issues with this becomes (cause its obsolet). Wm5torage without problems. Wifi without issues for WPA or WEP... Mmmm no issues on comm manager. UMTS HSDPA i dont have problems with this.
2.- Speed is the best way to feel power!... even if they outside are Devices with 200hmz are faster!
R----So I know the speed becomes with new builds even more and more... but it can be performed so much more with some tricks... and the Ram... needs to be intact... i mean no Apps running hide.
3.- The love comes from the Eyes... NEW UI please.
R---- The Icons needs to be atractive... leave the default apps by HTC work good (ok ok with their fixes like HTC home, WMP, etc etc) but with some skins. the phone with opal canvas is really nice. The bars and wall paper dont matters are cuztomizable... the start Icon needs to be a new one not the orb of new builds the BW or the Normal ORB... maybe a newone or Vista likely.
(M2D... maybe but i think it becomes great of flavors ROM one light... A full and a M2D... maybe One with the sidebar by Omnia)
4.- Performance... I hate Soft reset every 2 hours hahahaha
R----The OEM package doesnt matter... maybe the 20207 was the most stable... I dislike everytime make softresets... so i reed somewhere even the newer is not the worth!!! And please fix the PIE cause Skyfire experiments much troubles today they shuts off the sound
5.- Real BIg Storage PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we need storage cause many apps works much better on device memory.
6.- Office works fully many version dont works well... are the most worth it cause bussiness. and all the shortcuts please--- new sounds too.

[Q] Some questions about Android on HTC Diamond

Hi!
I've started to use a DIAM100 approx. 1 year ago. I've tried a lot of ROMs with it, and I think that the MEMO ROM provides the most functionalities/services, without too much speed slowdown, so I'm using it for every day usage, but I have to say:
Windows Mobile provides a lot of functionalities, but:
it's a little slow
it's GUI is a little ugly
it has a lot of apps, and I'm happy with most of them, but there are dozens of apps, that aren't usable, or they are very slow, or/and haves ugly GUI.
(If I use internet on my device, or write emails on it, [in brief: if the screen's backlight is on & I touch the screen a lot] the battery drains fast... Is this only my problem? Do I have to buy new batteries?)
(If I use GPS without car recharger, the battery drains fast... Is this only my problem?)
So I would be happy to move to Android (maybe iPhone but it has a lot of limitations... does Android have limitations?). I like my device, and it's a cheap one, so if I don't have to, then I don't want to buy a new one, so I tried a lot of Android builds...
I think that everybody knows what's the problem with them:
The battery life is short with them
Camera isn't working with them
A variety of other problems...
I have read dozens of forums, researched the internet a lot in that topic, but I have some questions:
Where can I follow the development process of the Android porting to HTC?
If the battery draining problem would be solved i would use my current device for every day use with Android. What do you think: Approximately when this can be done?
Is there any current Android build for a DIAM100, that can be used for every day usage? (I want to use mobile internet and push sync, and listen to some music with my headset... If these are working with any build for one day, than it's OK. (If I use Windows Mobile and do these things, than my mobile can hold the battery power only for one day... I have to recharge daily... If I only enable the push sync, and make some calls, than it can hold for ~2 days.))
I'm a programmer, and I would be happy if I could take a part in the porting work... How can I participate? There are some opportuinities that I found, but what do you think, what is the best?
What do you think? Should I wait for the porting to be done, or buy a new, Android based device?
(If the build that meets my requirements, and can run some 3D games too, and can use the G-Sensor, than I would be very happy I have a HTC Hero now for only some days, and I have to say, that it's very cool...)
Thanks for any answer in advance!
Android is like windows mobile, you can customize how you want
The battery is a problem and that's sad,you can use it for a day but you won't have to use wi-fi,3g and bluetooth
This is the biggest project involved in porting android 2.1 and 2.2 on our diamond
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711692 this is for 2.2(froyo)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751 this is for 2.1(eclair)
I personally use froyo

personally i use 2.1, but i wonder, which consume more battery? 2.2? aor 2.1? Can I save more battery if I use 1.6 donut?

New here! Installed CM7 2.3.5 recently...got some gripes. Maybe better options?

Hey y'all!
Phone runs damn fast now...2500 with 1.1Ghz /75. Even got as high as 2900 with 1.2ghz BUT... some simple improvements that can be made.
1) Lack of Task Manager that came with the stock 2.2.1 ROM which had auto-end feature. I installed Process Killer app, but maybe one out there that's better? It will kill apps at time intervals, but not prevent from opening again. For example Maps opens up A LOT without me running it (among several others). Eventually, this PK app uses 20% of battery to end these apps.
I tried to install 2.2.1 ROM task manager on CM7 and didn't work. maybe there's another method???
2) I miss the Swipe feature and stock keyboard. Anyway I can transfer these over? I forgot to back them up before CM7.
3) the dialer sucks. No speed dial and doesn't bring up contacts as you type them in the dialer
4) no battery saver mode. i had to download an app. forgot the name.
5) Wasn't connected to 3G at first, but found the answer here and simply is not faster than the stock 2.2.1 ROM. I was easily pulling well over 3Mbps downloads and not uncommon to get 4,5 and even 6mbps on Tmobile 3G. But on CM7 i barely get over 3, if I get there at all. Maybe Tmo throttled back my download speeds? I have been messing with the phone for 2 weeks trying to sort everything out.
Thanks!
1) Android system itself has good memory management, i.e, it automatically closes unwanted apps to free up memory if it really needs. Using task killer apps really do have much effect (at least nothing outright). So there's really no need to have one.
2) you can get swype here : http://beta.swype.com/
3) you can try 'go dialer' or any such dialer apps from market
4) Whats battery saver mode?
5) Have you changed the baseband to your region/provider?
1 & 3 Try the Go apps option,
GoLauncherEX gives a nice launcher very similar to ADW Launcher that comes with CM7 but does add a Running Tab to your app drawer if you wish to close apps down. Although this is not really needed, as mentioned above, Android shuts down apps not needed when needed.
GoDialer/GoContacts as a dialer replacement, themeable, good options, worth a try.
5 Look in the Apps for Defy Baseband and make sure you choose the one best for you. That might help with your 3G problem
Im no expert and still a bit of a novice but switching from Stock to CM7 was one of the best things I did so stick with it and CM7 will shine through
hey guys!
i was trying to figure out if there is any clean, fast rom (gingerbread) for the motorola defy!
i've tried the cm7 2.3.7 but it felt like there was something holding the phone back, plus battery was heating up like crazy.
quad score 2200
tried miui-looks fancy, like quite a few of the options they have like pop up message and the easy customization but not that great for me because theres no app drawer.
quad score 1990
used walter's ms2ginger,like it but not that much. its the fastest of all of these.
so now what i want to know is if theres a rom for the defy that would make me go gaga over my phone all over again!
quad score 1600
not sure if this is the right place for this so apologise my noob-ness
oh and since the defy+ is out, is there a way to get a nandroid of it to install on the older defy???? (since its the same thing except for the 1ghz processor clock speed) :S
Weird, I tried ms2ginger and it's more like a faster defy stock rom with the same random lags.
I haven't tried miui, but cm7 is faster than ms2ginger and (sure) stock rom and almost never lags. If you do not need call recording and you don't care about 720p recording/playback, cm7 is the best of them.
(720p playback in cm7 is not bad, just ms2ginger is better a little)
but the camera app on the ms2 ginger is the best! lol its so much nicer looking and functioning then the cm7! :O
Thanks guys! I actually have 2.3.7 CM7, not 2.3.5

4) I have battery defender app. I shuts off the antenna after 5 min when the screen goes off. It's very similar how T mobile motoblur was on the Defy. They allowed you to set the phone on 3 different performance levels. Now that I have some of the stuff sorted out, the phone will last 2 days no problems (avg/below avg use).
5) There are 3 choices for baseband. They are (not sure of the whole name) XXXX.4, xxxx.9 and 6.0. My phone only works on the xxxx.4 choice. However, one thing i do notice on CM7 is that an 'H' shows up by the bars, whereas 2.2.1 rom just said 3G. This is something that if I had known earlier I would have checked my phone before going to CM7.
Does the APN count for anything?? I did have to enter some values for that.

check your email settings if you set that up. Mine got real hot and battery drained like crazy because it was set to retrieve every 15 minutes and I was in a place with sh*tty reception. Put those 2 together and your battery won't last long. I set my email for every hour. I also don't have any social sites setup on the phone as I don't use them (T, FB). Also try battery defender app.

[Q] sense contact management

Hi guys, i'm searching a rom for my htc desire z.
I tried a lot of different solutions: original (bad battery life), cm7 ,miui and now virtuos ..
Considering i'm completely addicted to sense contact management but i can't stand with battery life management of virtuos rom, do u think it exist any rom which can allow me to manage contact and their social profile as sense does?!
Battery life is a function of a ton of different variables. But one of the most important is the radio, how well it plays with the ROM, and the reception in your area. You might try different radios, and/or RIL match them to the ROM.
Best battery life I have seen on a Sense ROM is Unity. I went from a 24 to 36 hrs on the stock ROM before needing to charge, up to easily going 48 hrs or more on Unity. This is with pretty light usage. Its a Sense 3 ROM, and all of them are laggy as our hardware is simply not designed for Sense 3. But many people still love Sense 3 ROMs, and there are ways to tweak them to make them smoother.
There is an app, free on market, called Contacts by Contapps. Pick any lightweight ROM (Virtuous G-Lite, any AOSP ROM, etc..) and use Contacts to manage your contacts like you would on Sense. Able to sync and use your FB Contact information as well as use their display pictures. Works very nicely IMO. Not 100% exact, but performs necessary functions.
I use the stock ROM, pre-rooted with the Unity V10 kernel. This is tweaked to be undervolted (but slightly overclocked to 1Ghz) among other things to be quite efficient with power. I usually get 24 hours with medium / heavy use up to 36-48 hours with light use.
Standard other things are:
Be strict with Accounts and Sync, make sure things only sync when they need to.
Background apps, be aware of apps that sit in the background consuming power. Check in About - Battery.
I've recently caught "Privacy - Backup" to be consuming a lot of power on my phone.
Use WIFI when you can, its more efficient than HSPA
Disconnect WIFI when not in range, it will constantly scan for networks.
See how you go..
Craig
Thx guys for your reply ,i'm going to try those roms and apps... I'll answer you after a crash test

Using Blackout ICS

I'm new to using a rooted device and installing custom ROMS, and I love it!
I've loaded the latest Blackout ICS version 3.0.0, and am really impressed by how well it works. I immediately noticed that battery life is better than anything I've used previously, always different versions of Gingerbread. So that's a big improvement straight away. As others have highlighted, it's a bit laggy at times, but I overclocked the CPU and it runs much more smoothly. Even just 1.2 GHZ produced a noticeable improvement, and I'm now on just under 1.5 GHz, which I gather is a safe setting. I was worried about this affecting battery life, but if it has it's barely noticeable. I suppose it only runs at the fastest speed when it needs to.
The only problem with the ROM is the auto-brightness, which jumps up and down even in fixed light conditions. Not sure if the developers pick these threads up, but that is really the only issue I've found.
As the DHD seems to be the only device not to be getting an official port of ICS, I'd definitely recommend giving this ROM a try.
With all these other devices getting updates, is it likely that more fully working ICS ports for the DHD will be on the horizon?
Really? You get better battery? I suspect i get a little less battery time...

You should also try AOSPX and Nik Project X. The first one is stock ICS and the second one is ICS with Sense 4.0. I tried both of em and they work flawlessly on my DHD.
Haven't tried Blackout yet because I saw in the thread that there were still quite a few issues to be solved.

I like the look of Nik Project X, though the final post on the forum raises an issue with not being able to get HSDPA data speed. I'll keep tabs on that forum and maybe give it a try.

Hmm, haven't really paid attention to that (I 'm mostly on WIFI). I 'll do a speedtest when I get the chance.
Edit: Did a quick test and I 'm getting 3,6Mb down / 1,6Mb up (inside a server room right now so not the best connection). Seems quite normal for my network (7,2Mb is max speed I can get from my provider). Of course the max HSDPA speed is alot higher but that 's something I cannot test.
Hi,
I've just installed, and recovered my apps, as i've wiped battery calibration i cannot talk about it, but OC is excellent. Even in default frequency the desktop turns without any lags, but as you mentionned, sometime there are some lags (typing on keyboard for instance) but i guess it's linked to the OC profile changing , try in performance instead of on demand, this should solve that.
Regarding the brightness i agree , it seems it change on "i don't know which parameter" from bright to low brightness.. so i've installed Bright day app to set the brightness along the day at low value and i've set on the main desktop the brightness widget to up from system parameters to push it up when i need, then bright day will recover the setting after a while..

So after few days of testing here are my feelings :
Takeing account of deamon set to 1,2Ghz, i can still reach 1d and half near 2days without charging , with a light use :
Allways connected to network though HSDPA (as i take train it often check the network to change the connected cell)
Playing 20-30min 3times a days to Pirates of carabean (3D game multiplayer so connecting to the network)
Surfing a bit
no music
no video
With an harder use i reached 1d wake up to sleep:
still same network condition
playing double time at least (1 to 1,5h 3times a days)
Surfing more (1h)
no music an no video
using battery eater apps (windguru) a bit
to resume my feeling on battery is excelent, i've noticed a light improvement on idle battery drop, a bit accelerated over time (due certainly to used app remaining processes.
Let's go now to the issue i've noticed :
-Back tactil button doesn't work on phone screen while it works everywhere else
-Using smoth rosie to supersmooth show a light display trouble when reducing the app drawer windows (doubling the reducing animation)
-Light keyboard trouble doubling the A letter some time (like if the touchscreen has been typed twice when its not the case)
-blackout tweak shortcut from top task bar doesn't linked (need to go through the app drawer to access it)
-Folder creation missing from widget/app shortcut addition screen (or i didn't found it) , i use the moving app on another icon to create it (i don't know if it's the ICS new way of creating folder on desktop)
The plus i've found (don't know if it's an ICS feature) : create a folder in the lower task bar : can jump from 4 shortcut to full app contained in your phone accessible from the locked screen : I loved that !
The overall impression is really great and for an old phone that "doesn't give a good experience of ICS" following HTC, i feel this ROM fullfill my expectation from ICS on my Desire HD !
Many thanks to the Blackout team !

Btw, testing further again, i've found the sms issue (from my point of view it was linked to transferring sms not to content,) I'll give a try to the 3.1 to chek this out
I confirm the keyboard double "a" in certain text box, particularly in sms typing or web address typing
Lags linked to overclocking

Yes. Some can't send at all. Some have data drop in and out while sending and some have no issues. Seems weird to me since the hardware is supposed to be the same for the most part. I think apn and radio combo has the most to do with it.

Love this ROM...
This ROM would be my daily driver if the Wifi hot-spot worked. Has anyone found a work-around or fix? Wifi Tether didn't work either btw. I know it's WIP by the devs but they said it wasn't a major priority for them (Boooooo lol) Fingers crossed for v3.2
As noticed recently in the official thread, i've also noticed the magical battery jumps, i first guessed it was linked to the battery calibration wipe i've done before to flash the Blackout3.0 rom, but i can sometime still see this trouble also.
It happen even phone is in use but every time inbetween 30 and 5 percent of battery left. it goes down to low then readjust it to an higher value without any reason.
The phenomen come back lately less often, but maybe devs can check this out. I'm running on a SFR Desire HD recognized as an incredible S on the 3.0 rom.
