(Request) galaxy's rom to evo 4g - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can any devs port a galaxy's Rom to our HTC Evo?? Please

Samsungs boot partition is very different and I don't know how difficult that would make the port, but what rom and galaxy version are you looking at? I will take a look at it and see if it's possible or see if it's something that if not possible to port can be mimicked with a modded aosp rom.

i dont think that you can make a touch wiz rom cuz you will get sued or somethin like that correct me if im wrong

Idk if you would get sued as there are several touchwiz/sense copied launchers and themes in the market, its more an issue with Samsung set their boot partition up wayyyy different from most other phones, I mean we already have ports of motoblur and sense from other devices etc

I've been looking everywhere for a port of the puzzle lock screen. Surely that could be possible

Magic locker on the market has a puzzle lockscreen

Removing parts of sense

I am getting a Desire soon and personally I would rather remove Sense UI, but this is not longer possible the easy way.
Can anyone explain if you can remove sense another way? I have heard people say to use Launcher2 or HelixLauncher to get the 3D app drawer and the nexus one launcher. Can anyone confirm this works?
Thanks!
Yep if your install either you can make them default and use them instead but it will still have the Sense theming of all the apps / status bar etc and obv the HTC widgets wont work
ok thanks or the quick reply
so if i use either of these launchers i will not be able to use HTC widgets?
and when/if the desire gets rooted i'll be able to stick a nexus one rom on?
has anyone had any experience with either of these launchers on the desire?
im new to android so i apologise for the noobish questions
Not a problem
Nope you won't be able to use the HTC Widgets... but you can launch the HTC Sense launcher at any time and get access to your widgets though it's a bit of hassle doing that everytime hence i'm gonna stick with htc sense launcher myself.
Both the nexus launcher and helix work great on my Desire, no problems as far as i've been using it.
Not sure about putting then nexus rom though, sorry
thanks for the info.
so installing launcher2 enables the 3D app drawer from the nexus one?
just to clarify lol
Yep the home screen looks like the nexus one and you get the 3D drawer with fades. It looks pretty good! I just wish the widgets still worked then it would be perfect.
thanks again for your quick reply
so where do i download this launcher 2? from the android market when i get the phone?
sorry so many questions!
Not a problem,
Helix you can get from the market but launcher2 you will need to get from somewhere else but if you search these forums you will find one you can install no problem
awesome, thanks again.
one last request: which version did you use? i've searched here and elsewhere and each version is different and im not sure which to use
I'm not sure to be honest, if you know how to check then I can tell you?

[Q] Install stock apps from one phone to another?

Hey all...thanks for looking and possibly answering. Heres my question. The one and only thing I do not like about my Evo is the contacts app. and the dialer. I came over from the iphone and the best thing on it was the combination of the dialer and the contacts, call log and favorites all within one application. I was at best buy and noticed that on a Samsung fascinate the STOCK contacts app is exactly what I have been missing. I found a couple stock apk files for a samsung moment and fascinate from another forum and tried to install on my evo and they would not install. So..guess what my question is...why wont they install? Are they locked so you cant install on different phones? If yes...is there a way around this. Or simply...how do I get the stock contacts apk from a samsung to my Htc evo?
My Evo is rooted
PS...I have spent countless hours searching for this type of contacts app that has everything I want in the market..it does not exist, so please please dont reply look in the market for something similar. I am looking to put this exact stock samsung app on my Evo.
Thanks everyone!
Most of the time these "stock" apps are odexed files, I would suggest getting the system.img file from the phone/rom that has the dialer app you want and extract the odex file AND the apk file for the dialer then run it through an apk deodex script(I'm on a MacBook), then try to install it. Not promising this will work, but give it a shot and if it doesn't pan out politely ask a dev if they can port it, XDA is full of helpful and willing devs, as long as you aren't an ass about it like some people are, let me know if this helps!

+1..... I'd like to see this ported over. I had a Samsung Captivate and I miss my contacts app much better than what I have on Evo.

Anyone had luck on this? I just upgraded to s5 from s2 and want the stock memo widget from s2 installed onto the s5 as the s5 widget can't go smaller than 4x1.
You might have better luck asking in the Samsung forums. The most recent post prior to yours was over three years ago and it doesn't seem that anyone has an answer, that, and the OP was looking for a way to use an app from a non-HTC device on a HTC phone.

[Q] Is there no way?

Is there no way whatsoever to use HTC Sense Widgets with other launchers? What differences are there between them and normal Widgets, that makes them unusable without the HTC launcher? Can't they be ported?
I am curious too.
although android is open source. HTC Sence is not, htc have spent many hours making sure they wont work with other launchers, and as it is no source code it cannot be ported
I'm sure there is some way of tricking it into thinking that it's the default HTC launcher?

I would say the calendar because I just love the way it works and looks, but LP copied it well, so I'm good.
A lot of work to try and reverse engineer rosie and the widgets. For all we know half the widget code is inside rosie itself which would explain why the widgets only run on rosie.
Maybe someone could invest considerable time in trying to reverse engineer it but why bother? I'm not even sure such an endeavour wouldn't be in violation of copyright law our patent law.
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.
I guess none will reverse it, since it's totally closed source and the best devs don't use sense at all.
But there arrrrr replacements for nearly all sense stuff in the market. Miui clock and animated weather pro are great replacements for the clock.
Also, if you made the first step to get rid of sense, also take the second and use a non sense rom like cyanogenmod.you will love the speed and added functionality
Swyped with cyanogenmod 7 powered HTC Desire HD. Excuse typos.
Thanx for the info

Touchwiz UI on desire?

I would like to try the touchwiz use interface on my HTC desire as I am just curious, i know that it somehow "sucks" as people claim but I just wanna play around with it, anybody has the links to the Rom? And can I get it working on my desire? And err, just another question, is the OTA update to 2.3 for the desire out yet? Of not, when is it coming to Singapore?

I don't think there's a TouchWiz port out there just because sense is better in every way by far (my 2cents). The devs here don't want to loose precious time by porting something that doesn't have that lot of interest. Maybe you should try a Samsung phone for a while if you have access to one.
there is a port of the touchwiz launcher

[Q] Dual Boot OS

Hey sorry if this question has already been answered but is it possible to dual boot 2 different roms with this device? It would be awesome to have the ability to have one experimental partition to test out new roms and themes and then one stable partition for when you just want the phone to work.
it actually should be doable.
i havn't really looked into it but maybe someone else can chime in.
however i can say i know there were some android apps that allowed dual booting.
and a quick search showed that there is an app SGS2 Dual-Boot Setup (LolBoot)
that was written for the galaxy s2 that may or may not work you may give that a shot.
though once again i haven't looked into it. may use a custom kernel to achieve this and may be non functional with the epic as is.
just to be safe i'd probably make sure i had access to odin and a backup
That is exactly what I am looking for except able to work on the epic touch and also to still have access to the recovery.
There's a paid app called Boot Manager. I would reach out to that dev and see if he has plans on supporting our phone
