a friend of mine has an EVO 4G, hardware 004, it has been working fine until a few weeks ago when his camera showed a BLACK screen when you clicked on the camera app. he was rooted running SPRINT LOVERS 2.2 rom. Well, we couldnt get the camera working so we did a hard reset and flashed MIKROM 3.0... camera was now working great..... TODAY. the camera is showing a black screen again. you dont even get any of the buttons in the camera app but you can press the home screen to get out (no force quit or anything).
any ideas how to fix this without another hard reset?
The best advice is to try another rom, specifically a stock sprint rom. If it still doesn't work, or works sporadically, its likely a hardware problem with the camera itself.
It sounds like a hardware issue to me I had the same problem an had to get it replaced.don't quote me these guys ate pretty smart but I couldn't get mine fixed

Sounds like the camera hardware maybe staring to fail or has become loose from the board next time it goes black try pressing the lens down and see if it tries to work that would indicate loose connection, otherwise the sensor may be failing

OK so today we tried pushing down on the camera module.. then started up the phone and guess what.. it works again...
Sounds like the camera sensor is loose on the board, may need to take it on for repair, or if your techsavvy try opening it up and repair it yourself

It fixes permissions for a lot of things like apps folders etc your android phone is a linux based system so in order for things to execute they need to have the correct permissions. For instance something with 777 permissions means it has full read write and execute permission for the owner, group and other here is a calculator for linux permissions just to show you what the different permissions are.

The permissions can sometimes change meaning the app or folder or whatever isn't able to execute because it doesn't have permission to fixing permissions is just supposed to fix that so your things can execute correctly hope this helps

Really 3 posts to answer the same question with 3 of the same answer when we already found the cause of the issue
Funny cause ive been combing the net trying to find a working fix. I've been having the same issue for weeks. Once did the "fix permissions" and it worked. Another time i re-flashed the same ROM then a different ROM and they both worked.
IDK what it is but everytime it works bout an 1/2 hour to 1 hour later its back to the black screen again. I'm stuck guys. I even had a friend of mine extract his HTCcamera.apk from his phone & load it on mine...guess what...worked!!! Hour later.....same crap
Comeon guys lets put our heads together and figure this out!!!

So I've been experiencing an odd issue intermittently. I'll be using my phone normally, and out of the blue, the touchscreen input gets flipped along the vertical centre axis in portrait mode. this flip remains when i change the phone to landscape mode (the issue itself doesn't flip). It's an odd phenomenon that disappears once I reboot, but I thought I'd record and upload for all your curiosities' sakes.

I've got the same problem but it doesn't go away when I reboot...
Can anyone help?!
Experienced the same issue. Rebooted and it was fine. Unnerving to say the least.
Have you tried a factory reset? And/or reflashing ROM
Sent from my Desire Z using xda app-developers app
I've tried rebooting, tried resetting to factory settings and now I will attempt to reflash the ROM.
From the power of google it appears that this is an issue with a lot of tablets and that it's a driver issue. Mine happened only after I replaced a faulty lcd so that would make sense. I'm still not confident on how to fix it though!
Doubt that reflashing is going to help, then. If you can get the device to run a recalibrate you may be in business.
Installing a nandroid on my WinMo TP2 there was a calibrate app in the ROM that ran in the command line before the GUI loaded up. Hopefully you can find something like that.

it was not the nand version but the version that loads from WinMO with Haret. Maybe you can look at one of these files and extract the calibrate code or find out where it came from.

Thanks Igor - that's the most constructive answer I've found to the problem.
Having said that, I'm not sure I possess the neccessary skills to extract the calibrate code and secondly I still hold out hope that it's a driver issue. The reason I say that is because the old lcd was working fine in so much as left and right worked ok (just the display and colours that were ruined) and the problem only started when the new screen went in!
But I guess that still leaves me needing to extract lcd driver files.......

...been googling the issue and it seems that you can get Android to force a recalibrate. IF you're rooted and handy with adb or terminal emulator.
...now that might not fix your issue BUT it might.

Well I'm not rooted... yet! But I've been working on it (looks like I need a goldcard...) I'm not especially handy with adb but I can follow instructions and have a very small amount of common sense
So I'll try it!
Thanks again for your help man - very much appreciated.
Make sure that you use the gfree method from the wiki page for rooting. And read n re-read before you do it for a flawless and easy root.

Any luck? facing the same issue
Hi, I am a noob and wondering what is the solution to this problem?
After installing the TeamBURST ROM on my andoird the screen is working fine in the bottom half but the upper half has the y-axis flipped.
Appreciate any inputs that point me in the right direction (I just started rooting and flashing yesterday so fairly know but I do know coding).
Hello everyone
I had flashed an Aosp rom I can't think of the name right now, it was a newer one, anyway I noticed the camera was force closing so I pointed out to that developer it was an issue. He wasn't why it was fc so I just moved on and tried another Aosp rom. Camera was still the same. I then decide to try and flash all the newer radios ect. Thinking that might fix it but it didn't.
So I went back to a sense rom to try to update prl and profile but didn't help.
Iv tried other camera apps with no success.
What's happening is the it goes immediately black screen and that's it. Sometimes the force close thing pops up other times it just sits on black screen.
I don't know what else to try. In other threads some have mentioned it could be an unfixable problem, this would really suck because they Just had to give me a new one due to a seperate issue.
Can anyone give me an insight into this? I would really appreciate it.
Tyvm

Have you dropped it lately? it could be loose on the board.
I know if you flash the wrong kernel, it'll break the camera among other things. Happened to me when I flashed aosp kernel on a sense Rom by mistake. Try reflashing Rom only after wiping everything except sd card.

Just have them take it apart and push the camera module back down onto the board. It takes literally like 2 minutes. I've done it in 30 seconds before.
When I was using my phone today, I noticed that a long press on the power button was shutting down the phone instead of bringing up the menu. Then, I realized that I had also lost my lock screen, which I really hadn't noticed because I don't use the pattern lock. Turns out, even if I enabled the pattern lock, password, or PIN, using the power button still took the phone straight into the home screen.
I don't know if it was an bug in a random app, malware, or what... I spent a lot of time searching for an answer on what might have caused it, but didn't find anything really helpful. I started deleting all my recent apps, but couldn't get the lock screen back, so I ended up restoring the phone to factory settings and starting from scratch.
The only reason I'm posting about it is that I'm not entirely sure what caused it... I'm debating the possibility that it could it could be a touchwiz bug. Anyone else ever run into this?

Yes, its a known bug. I just ran into the bug today and I refuse to do a factory reset to fix the issue since its just gonna happen again. Samsung should be able to fix it with a simple software update.

Ah, that would explain it... I was tearing out my hair trying to figure out what I had done. Funny thing is, I don't even *like* having a lock screen. I was just bothered by the fact something was wrong...
How did you find out that it's a known bug? I must have been phrasing my search poorly, because I couldn't find squat about the issue.
Still, whether I like the screen lock or not, I think this is a pretty decent security bug, considering it removes the ability to lock the phone...

I know because I seen it under "list of known issues". If you scroll down a few post you'll find it. The downside to not having a lockscreen is that if you receive a text message your phone will automatically unlock and you may accidentally dial someone if the phone is in your pocket.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH THE LOCKSCREEN ISSUE I ADVISE USING A 3RD PARTY LOCKSCREEN. I AM CURRENTLY USING "AGILE LOCKSCREEN" (WHICH CAN BE FOUND IN THE ANDROID MARKET). I AM USING THE PRO VERSION, BUT THE FREE ONE WILL DO THE JOB ALSO.

Mine's gone too.... Now that we have root I've a nandroid backup which I believe still had the lockscreen and will try restoring from that. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll do a master reset and restore from Titanium Backup. Hopefully Clockwork Recovery will survive the master reset...
I thought that was just me yesterday so I did a master reset

For people having issues of making calls/etc. when the screen unlocks:
Just put the phone in your pocket with the screen facing AWAY from your body.
I had this happen immediately after using the *#0*# test screen, I'm blaming that

UPDATE: 5/24/2012
Won't be doing any work on this for a while. Phone got run over and can't afford a new one right now. Using my SGS4G as a backup until I can get a good price on an s2 or possibly a new S3.
UPDATE 4/5/2012
Good News is I got my phone back from JTAG repair... BAD NEWS is they messed up my usb port. Phone boots and all but I have no way to charge it.. When I plug it in it flashes a warning saying Battery is too hot or too cold, charging has been canceled. Was able to get in download mode and did a wipe to see if maybe it was a firmware issue but it did not help. Went back to download mode to see if I could flash a new boot.img and get this error:
Claiming interface... Failed. Attempting to detach driver...
Claiming interface again... Success
Setting up interface... Success
Beginning session...
Failed to initialise usb communication!
Re-attaching kernel driver...
Now my battery is completely dead so I can't try anything until I can get an external charger if they make one... will update as I can
UPDATE 3-28-12 5:24 p.m. est
For those of you who keep sending me PM's asking to test...
Go to the thread in the Development forum and download it. The Thread was closed but links are still active.
UPDATE #2 3-28-12
I won't be able to work on this for a few days.
Bricked my phone working on a different kernel and modem.
Will send it out for jtag repair and have it back sometime next week hopefully...
Guess I will jump back to the sgs4g forum and work there for a few days.. Have that phone with unbrickable mod...
If anyone knows if unbrickable mod is available for this phone let me know.
I Have no problem tearing it apart and performing the mod.
Update 4/1/12 Turning down in call volume will cut down on in call echo.
Thanks
I would like to apologize in advance for not asking my QA inside of the QA section.
On a side note i was having data issues and I flashed cache and reenterd my APN settings manually and it fixed it

I actually had the same question too but no one answered..I ended up restoring my NAND backup of a 2.3.6 ROM, manually forcing it to go to WCDMA only, then re-flashing ICS, which effectively saved the settings. For some reason lol

Hey guys I'm having some problems on miui and my phone in general. I have no root permission in miui and it force closes when I try to enter the app. Also I can't log onto xda if I'm not on WiFi.
This is probably my fave ROM and want to avoid going back. I don't have 4g and if I do its very slow and also my phone will cut in and out. I was wondering if there's any work a rounds to my problems, I flash correctly and fix permissions after I flash so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I'm scared of my imei corrupting cause its happened a few times and can't back it up with miui cause I don't have permissions. I just reflash it and that works. I'm using cwm. Seems like literally nothing else I've tried works, flashing wise. Could it be my version of cwm is out dated? Also wondering if anyone has ever replaced their screen with one that's $14 off amazon and if the 7000 Nah battery is real. Thanks if anyone is able to answer my questions
