I assume you haven't rooted?
You'd have to flash (install) a ROM that's based off of Gingerbread. Right now, there are only two or three of those
I have rooted & flashed myns warm. that's what I'm worried about..or my question I guess. How would I get gingerbread on my rooted phone.

Like would I update through Sprint or is it something I have to do manually?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Manually or wait until they push it out officially.
Using my HTC Evo phone which I'm using Xda app to post
At the moment you would have to do it manually. As far a I am aware the few roms that are available are not yet completely stable, and not all the features are working. Cyanogen is working on CM7/gingerbread, but has not released a build. Sounds like they're getting close though, as he tweeted he's using it as his daily driver.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
there are 3 Gingerbread ROMs in the Android Development forum thus far. They're all in Alpha or early Beta forms currently, and for most people are not stable or feature-full enough to be daily users.
If you're new to rooting I'd shy away from flashing experimental Alpha builds unless you're ready for some troubleshooting. It might be in your best interest to wait until they are more general public ready.
If you are interested, here are the links to the 3 I'm aware of:
Comes tweaked so far. Not really stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878020
Pretty much stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877653
Pretty much stock as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881557
I've personally used the 2nd and 3rd. Both worked for me but not without some issues for sure.
Oh and no matter what, get very familiar with recovery and NAND BACKUPS (nandroid). Especially when trying these alpha roms, get used to backing up your working roms and restoring them.
Everyone is so helpful but I'm not trying to do anything with my phone until it's officialy released. I just don't know how being rooted effects updating. I don't know if I'm wording this correctly...lol sorry
what my friend is trying to tell you sinse you are rooted you have to wait untill a rom w/ gingerbread on it which he provided some for you. and if you apply it manually you may be un-rooted then until unrevoke or others can break it .
Hi all
anyone know of a fully woking gingerbread rom at this point?

CM7 is the closest. Was using as a daily driver until yesterday to run Z3. Everything but 4g, which no GB rom has.
Check out the cyanogen forums for the latest nightly builds, and the CM7 thread in the general section for any Q's or info.

Huge downgrade for something that's in alpha stage to not be working perfectly?
Netflix upgraded to work with android 4.x back in december with the galaxy nexus release. Like other people who saying I think it's more to do with the actual rom than anything else. I'm sure with the next series releases these minor compatibility issues will be fixed.
Its netflix now but what else isn't working? There are programs other people use on a daily basis not seen at the moment with the current developers and testers using this beta style rom. We are not status quo. There's only a few people using calk's fb17 release at the moment...100 max I am willing to gamble.
The real question is what else isn't working? What other programs like netflix are not running correctly on this version of ice cream sandwich. Maybe there's an off chance that we can isolate the problems similar to what's going on with netflix and other programs and somehow cross check them together with other programs/APKs to find some related issue and tackle it from there.
Until then, like others, I'm gonna stay back on a regular android 3.x rom and work from here because I can't make it through my work night without netflix. It's too damn boring here at usps. 2 hours of work and 6 hours of downtime makes kevin a dull boy. here's hoping an even more stable release is put out so that we can have basic yet minor things like netflix back. Even though it may not seem that important to some other joe schmo across the internet at least a few of us actually desire something like netflix so I wouldn't judge too much.
Oh and by the way, I think this is working with my fb15 version last night so who knows maybe its just some issue isolated to the fb17 rom. I would check but I'm not at home. I really don't feel like temporarily breaking my phone for the evening. If someone wants to check to make sure you could try to flash the old fb15 release and see how netflix runs on that...or if it runs at all.

Like every other release for any OS, software patchwork needs to be done. What is truly exciting about ICS is that Google is requiring manufacturers not to mess with the base of the OS. Which means developers update once and it should be compatible with all. Its exciting mainly because some cool devs for ios have been holding back due to android manufacturers messing around. Now they should easly convert to android.

Quick question, and I'm not sure if it matters or not but how did you go about flashing calks rom? I can think of 3 or 4 different ways I can go about getting everything installed with this fb17 rom. I'm trying to figure out the difference between what you did what I did and how I can possibly get this to work for my phone. last time I installed it on a freshly flashed cwm as well as the fb15 modem. Then I even reverted back to stock el29 modem and rom, then installed calks rooted and deodexed fb17 rom keeping the el29 modem (doubt it matters much which modem I had). just wanted see if you did nothing there for different...or...something
Edit: Dang speak and spell screwed up everything...lol

mmmm..... hard to say, honestly, i would advise against it. At least until some new versions of the ROMs are released. I know that Raver said a new version is coming very soon-- hopefully today, and Yaldak is back in action, yay!
Myself, i stuck with black edition for about a week but the call echo issue drove me nuts. If ur business requires talking on the phone with people, might be a bad idea to ics yoself (if you do indeed find this issue to occur). As far as stability, black edition, i have found is the most stable but like i said, yaldak and raver are making big moves and will definitely be releasing some huge updates soon. Wait and read the q&a's once the new releases come out.

This is not a flame, just an observation.
You are not having a hard time picking out a rom, you are just electing to NOT search the forums, and NOT read the various ICS posts. There are a couple of roms that will get you DATA, and WIFI. Flash them and find out of they are to your liking. Or if you want to continue to not use the search feature and want people to spook feed you information then just sit back and wait for tmobile to push the OTA release when its done.

The ICS ROMs are in heavy development. If you depend on your phone for anything then no, don't flash them yet. If you like to try out new stuff, go ahead, but be aware, read up and know what you're getting into.
At the IO google said that they would release JB developer tools for JB. So will we have the full potential of 4.1 JB?
I ask this because JB probably won't be released (offically) for our phone.
PS: do you think the performance boosts of JB will have an significant effect on our phone? It seemed to on the nexus.
Probably not. We don't have kernel source for ICS as it is, even though our phone is slated to get it, but I wouldn't count on it so getting JB to work on our phone is highly unlikely.

I'm 76% sure we will get ICS. They have it for the S and they said they would release it at the end of August.
You must consider that JB is just an updated ICS. So we don't need an offical JB to have it running 100%. And Google will have a dev tool out that may help us. Lastly they have a dump floating around. Chances are that we can use that to help us build a 100% working ASOP JB build. But this all depends on when or if we get ICS.
Can a dev jump in and let me know of my logic is correct

And you believe everything HTC and Verizon tells you...? that Dev tool is worthless if it doesn't include specific Dinc 2 files that goes once again back to kernel source. That dump isn't as useful to us as you think otherwise we would have fully working ICS on our phones from ICS dumps. Trust me, if it were as simple as you believe it is, our devs would have done it already. The situation with JB is pretty much the same as ICS if not worse since there is also the issue of resizing XHDPI JB to WVGA because there are no JB phones with WVGA resolution. Don't quote me on that last part, but I'm sure a dev can correct me or explain it better.

Nexus S will receive the update and it is a single core WVGA phone. So, I'll be looking closely on feedback from Nexus S users. That should give us an idea of the performance gains that we can theoretically expect, if any, over ICS. And there is no need to be overly cynical about HTC and their promise of giving us ICS. They said they will by August end and so just wait for it. Regardless of what may have happened in the past, you will just burden your mind with needless thoughts...

They said to be determined by the end of August which is a big difference. And honestly at this point I don't really care if we get official ICS anymore I'm pretty content with the work that our devs have done so far without it, if official ICS is so important to some of these users they might as well have just stayed stock and waited for an OTA. I don't mean to take this out on you personally, but these threads about JB and "perfect and bugless" ICS roms have gotten ridiculously out of hand. Its been clarified by reps at both HTC and VZW that what they meant was that the date is to be decided but that we will have it by the end of August. Take that for what you will, as I don't believe there has been anything official that clarifies this. I am pretty confident that we will get it and can only hope that we will get kernel source soon after.
Back to the OP's question, I highly doubt that we will have a 100% working JB rom anytime soon considering we still have issues on ALL of our ICS roms. Once we have official ICS our awesome dev's will probably be able to get JB working well pretty quickly.

HTC has to release kernel source regardless because of the Chinese OTA they released. It might be as late as October, but they have to release it regardless or else they'd be in violation of some law that has an acronym I can't remember.

OTA ICS will (should) help remove many of the small bugs we have with Camera etc... And once we get a hand on our kernel source, I believe devs will be knee deep in Jellybean goodness... The main reason why I am looking forward for the OTA is for the kernel source... Hell no I am going to go stock.. Once the kernel is up, I am gonna go with Nits' Sense 4 ROM!
The To be determined thing is crappy of them... They say on their FB page that the "Release Date" is the thing to be determined, NOT whether it gets ICS or not... which makes sense given it is in the table of release dates and given they previously confirmed to give it ICS... anyway, time will tell... No breaking my head on this...

Yeah, I should try that ROM too, sometime... I was wondering how functional it is... The Sense 4 ROM has some issues with GPS too (if you toggle it, it will not come back on). But I don't like how Sense 3.6 is.
Even if we don't get an OTA HTC still has to release source because of the Chinese and Inc S ICS OTA. That's why I don't understand why some of the other users are so anxious for an official OTA, even with these other OTAs flash timing appears to still have not been fixed, whatever that is I haven't had it happen personally (knock on wood). We all need to relax and just wait for source to be posted and let the devs do their thing.
On a different topic, anyone else thing the default sig on the XDA app is kind of redundant?

In my experience it was bugless (IC 3.6) although it was laggy. It was laggy in the wrong places (homescreen, and scrolling through certain apps) and smooth in the wrong places (app drawer, GP, settings).

I promised I would get back to you, so I am. So let me start off by saying that it is SUPER smooth. When I first booted it up, it was really smooth. One bug i found though is that data doesn't work. It says in the notification drawer that it is on, but when try to go onto the internet, it doesn't work. Also, there were no SODs or RRs. I also liked the fact that is a like a "lite" ROM. You didn't add too many extra applications. The data is a big problem for me, so once that is fixed, I will use it as my DD. I went back to the ROM I was running before. I am really impressed that on your first release, it only had one bug.

However, the biggest two killers you should be wary of are 4G/3G (data) and high screen brightness.

Because it is based on source that has SOD and RR. There have been no core framework or kernel changes, so it inherently has the same issues as the source it is based on.

Honestly I dont get why you guys put all these unofficial builds out all the time if they have SOD and RR in the first place.. Great, you can compile a ROM from source that's got broken kernel problems and patch mods in. It's not like anyone is actually changing the core things that fix those SOD/RR problems, besides of course the Aokp and CM peeps.. It just doesn't make sense to me..

Well, seeing as up until very recently team_kang was only releasing builds on a NO ETA cycle. The nightlies give people something to flash and tinker with. Code is merged every night from the team, so we (people lik erik, myself) release nightlies for the community. Now, Sidekick has taken things a step further by providing yet another option for the thankful members of XDA to flash. If you have no intentions on flashing the rom in the OP, i would suggest you move along.
Choice is yours, but I doubt that OP appreciates someone trolling in his thread.
OP updated. Fixed most bugs.
