[Q] Cannot update HBOOT for wildfire S - HTC Wildfire S

So new release on HTVDEV to support Wildfire S. I downloaded PG7610000_Marvel_hboot_1.08.0099_20111216 and ran. The software finds my phone, reboots but fails to update the HBOOT.
It finds image version 1.34.110.3 and offers to update to 2.17.0.0
The update process starts and reboots into bootloader but then returns
ERROR [190]: ROM IS NOT UPDATED
Your ROM version is not the latest version. Please upgrade to 2.14.110.1 to apply this RUU to be able to unload your bootloader
I need to update my phone first. Check for the new on the phone.
On your phone go to Menu > Settings > Software version > Check now.
I have tried this and it tells me everything is up to date.
My phone is running 2.3.3 Android, HTC Sense 2.1
Any ideas or have I mis-understood the HTC unlock process?

download the htc ruu .zip file and flash it in the bootloader and then do d remaining steps, press the thanks btton

Nope, you need to update your phone, to 2.3.5 .
Guess you operator didn't released it jet, but you can find in wildfire S general topic that helps you upgrade you phone before your carrier can offer you and its totally legit update from HTC.
Name of the topic is [TUTORIAL][S-ON][GSM][HOWTO] Upgrade to 2.3.5
Its just the question of which WFS you have, is it branded or not, from where are you and such.
Hope I help a bit.
And say thank to the guys that made it possible

I havent managed to test using the goldcard method as my SD card doesnt seem to like it. It tells me I need to format the card. Hey ho.
Anyway T-Mobile say they are releasing the 2.3.5 update between 5th and 16th so I'll wait and see if this turns up. I have checked manually but nothing yet.
I'll give gogy the thanks as I think he's right.

I can't update to 1.21.405.2

Hi,
My device is 1.15 and rooted. When I click "system software update" I'm always seeing checkingin, nothing more.
I want to update my device to 1.21.405.2 but I can't.
What is your suggestions?
Unroot it.
Code:
How to Unroot your HTC Desire to stock
If you Have A 0.75 Bootloader:
Generic RUU Download / Mirror #1
T-Mobile UK RUU Download
o2 UK RUU Download
3 UK RUU Download
If You Have A 0.80 Bootloader: Download
Other RUUs Avalible Here
You will need:
1. HTC Sync (For Drivers)
2. The Download Above
3. A Windows PC
4. A Goldcard (Not required for generic HTC Desires)
The Guide:
1. Make sure your goldcard is in your phone (If Required-if your phone is branded)
2. Turn your Desire on
3. Connect it to a Windows PC
4. Run the HTC RUU
5. Let it run
6. & YOUR DONE!
Okey, I understood. But which file I must the download for 0.75 or 0.80. My boot version is 0.75.
Apparently the 1st version for 0.75 bootloader, you didnt tell if your Desire is unbranded or not, so if it is, the 1st link.

I don't know what is unbranded. I bought this phone from Germany. Before I rooted I was see T-Mobile logo. After root I see HTC logo. My friend ordered for me and I think he will pay 24 month to T-Mobile Germany. Is that mean branded?
In this case which version is good for me?. I rooted this device one week ago and I tried make 1.21 OTA update but I couldn't. Phone was say: "There is no any update". I dont want to see this meassage again after unroot.
Thanks for reply.
Im not sure, maybe someone else can confim that, but it seems that yours is T-mobile branded. Im not aware though, what and if there is a difference in UK vs German version (if in the UK version the german language is missing for instance).
I don't know what t-mobile is doing, but vodafone users only got a 1.19 update OTA! So no 1.21 in germany I think. Is it not possible to unbrand the phone and install one of these RUU updates from htc? Check this in dev forum

I will do unroot, after that I will try to take OTA 1.21 update, if can't I will try manuelly do RUU 1.21 update. I hope I don'tl corrupt the phone.
Just to be in the safe side, it's best practise to perform a Nandroid backup in Recovery Mode beforehand, which you can later restore if anything does go wrong with the flash.

Ok, nondroid is okey. I did unroot, and I saw a popup about system update
Now, I'm downloading BL 0.80 files to make again unroot but I confuse, should I do again goldcard process? I did already one time before..
Yes, you will need to use the same Gold Card to flash RUU files with a different CID to your own device.

So, I have a rooted Desire with stock 1.15 fw. If I want to upgrade to stock 1.21 fw I must unroot, then install the upgrade and re-root, isn't it? But if I'll follow this sequence will I lost every application that is on the phone now? Maybe it's better waiting for Froyo or installing a modded fw?
Well i downloaded offical updated and did the updated manualy because i also did not get updated via phone
Something goes wrong.
1. I have unrooted and did OTA 1.21 update.
2. I checked bootloader version. It's 0.80
3. I have unrooted again with 0.80 and 1.21 version.
4. After that I checked sw version it was 1.15 again
5. Again I did 1.21 updated and after reebot I checked again 1.15
I can download and install OTA 1.21 update many times, but still same. What is wrong?

[Q] do original RUUs restore recovery image?

Hi all, would like to know if, after installing a custom ROM, if i use a RUU will the recovery image be restored to default?
Thanks in advance!
Yes it Will
Yay! thank you! so just using the RUUs i will totally reset my desire, so HTC won't be able to tell if it's been rooted before?
Don't know whether they can't tell, whether they look if they've no need to I don't know...so long as it's on a stock ROM I don't think they'd check

What is a RUU and how can I do it, as I'm having the same problem.
I rooted to allow Titanium Backup to have root after using unrevoked but wasn’t aware that meant I also had a custom rom installed now.
I’ve been told I need to RUU as well.
RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility
It's the official way of flashing a ROM. Each phone has a software version running on it when you first get it and you should make a note of the one on yours before doing anything root-related for the very reason that if something goes wrong you can revert back to stock. Not all versions are available, e.g. there are no Orange RUUs about, but the ones that are can be found here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
If you didn't happen to make a note of yours then it's hard to say what it came with. If you've only rooted and NOT flashed a new ROM yet then if you go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post the software version we might be able to help
Thanks for all the information it helps fill in some blanks.
I dont think I have put a different rom on it, I only rooted using revoked- does that mean it has a different rom now?
and my settings show
Android 2.2
Baseband version 32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0 [email protected] #1
Build number 2.12.110.2 CL232610 release-keys
Software number 2.12.110.2
on a side note the link you posted - what do the numbers correspond to, my Kernel or build
Right you're on a T-Mobile FroYo ROM but the issue is there isn't that versions RUU available...how long have you had your Desire?
Damm.
I got mine in April this year, why do you ask.
Can I not use RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TMO_AT_2.12.112.1_Radio_32.46.00.32U_5.10.05.17_2_release_143754_signed.exe?
You CAN use that but it's the Austrian one...the reason I ask is to find out the screen type, you should be on an AMOLED screen so you can flash the older 1.21.110.4 RUU if you need to - you'll need a gold card to do it, though, I believe
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
If I do flash the older 1.21.110.4 version, are there any drawbacks, or will I just be able to update through OTA updates that will then be available to me through T-mobile to get me back to normal?
Also is there a best way to do this RUU as I have seen a few guides, can you recommend any to follow.
The way I'd do it is:
1. Download that RUU
2. Have gold card in your phone and HTC Sync installed on your PC
3. Connect phone to PC and select 'HTC Sync' from the options on the phone
4. Once HTC Sync on the PC shows connected, run the RUU
5. All being correct it'll flash the ROM
6. Assuming it's worked, you should get the OTA updates again as you did before
Replying on here and androidforums is getting confusing!!!
Thanks for all the help and I hope those instructions were meant for me and not some one else
Maybe you have to downgrade your hboot to 0.75.

Yes they're for you but there's someone on androidforums with EXACTLY the same issue - you sure you're not the same person??
Nope thats not me
I followed all the procedures. But the RUU gave me an error after a few minutes saying 'Error 140 Bootloader version error'.
What does that mean and how can I fix it.
Which RUU are you trying to use? And which HBOOT are you on now?
Im trying to use the one you recommended above RUU_Bravo_TMO_UK_1.21.110.4_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
Bootloader version I found out by holding the back key and power button to swithc on, it says HBOOT - 0.93.0001

One thing is sure. If u have got wildfire with froyo 2.2.1 at the time of purchase, then it will be the latest original one and u can't get a better original one than that. The one u r using now is also 100% safe. This not only applies to u but also to everyone who got wildfire with froyo at the time of purchase.
Even if u download froyo from shipped roms website, it will be the same with the one u r using now. [There might be phone language differences]
And the statement by htc as now didn't mean that they will unlock wildfire. They said that they will not lock the future devices. So, nothing specific for wildfire till now. Let us hope they will.

i don't want a better rom i want exactly the same as i have so if any thing went wrong i can restore it to my device and without voiding my warranty
i know that HTC statement is for new devices but let's hope they will update current devices also
Ok. I expect nothing has went wrong with ur device. Because the nand security on the present froyo wildfire reverts the changes on reboot. This should be 99%.
And if u further had doubt, just hard reset the phone. And see how it goes.
And u can also do one more thing. Download the froyo ota from that shipped roms website. Download ur regions ota. If u r unsure about the region u can download WWE one. And remember ur hboot must be 1.01.0001 to go with the WWE ota. Then keep the ota zip file on the root of ur memory card and rename it to update.zip
Then u can flash it from stock recovery of wildfire and after doing that make a fresh format. That's all.
And if u have hboot 1.01.0001, then u can also go with the WWE RUU (skipping the ota process) from the same shipped roms website.
Yaa, that's always good to keep the original things before starting the experiments. Also check that whether it is updating or not. Any ota or RUU from the shipped roms website will generally never brick ur phone. If they can't do the process they will end up with errors. Hope it helps. Have a nice day.
(And to enter the recovery, go to hboot menu and select recovery from there. Then u will see a red triangle. Now press the vol up + power key. There u can access the options.)

FOTA means " firmware over the air" update. So, ota means "over the air" in any device.
RUU means "rom update utility" for android phones.
Previously, for updating the phones firmware, there used to be only one option which can be done from PC. In android this is similar to RUU. Rom update utility is an windows PC exe file that can be run only on windows pc. For updating the android phone with RUU, we need to connect the phone to pc with usb cable and run the RUU file. Thats all it updates the phone firmware. For updating firmware through pc in nokia phones, there will be a PC application called "Nokia Software Updater" from which u can download the updates and update the phones firmware.
Then the updating process became much easier, that we can update the phone firmware from the phone itself. This is called FOTA update. The advantage of this is it downloads only the additional files and hence it will have lesser memory. In android, the FOTA update will be a zip file. I don't know how it is going in other phones now, but in android u can download the FOTA zip file from the phone or from the PC. Once downloaded, by keeping the zip file in the root of memory card, we can update the firmware. (As u already had the froyo, u won't be getting an option to download it from phone. U must download it from the website)
http://www.shipped-roms.org/shipped/Buzz/
I saw ur hboot 1.01.0002 from the picture u attached. So u cannot use WWE RUU or OTA. Sorry i don't know which OTA u have to use.

[Q] Updating Orange UK Wildfire S bootloader / image ROM version

Can someone help me with this? I'm trying to update the HBOOT loader using the HTC Dev unlock site but the download HBOOT 1_08.0099.20111216.exe file says my ROM image version (1.36.61.2) is not compatible and that a new file for this version will be available soon.
Is there anything I can do to update the HBOOT in the meantime (I don't mind debranding, possibly creating a gold card, etc) as it would be great to get the bootloader on this device unlocked (so I can try cyogen among other things)
For more help, write down Your hboot Info:

BIOS information is:
HBOOT-0.90.0000
MICRODP-0451

Apr 8 2011 17:45:10
OS Info is:
Android version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Software number: 1.36.61.2
Looking at the HTCdev info problem is there is no orange uk RUU image - or before that even a ROM updater.
@pat da punk
I Was think of reflashing to the EU stock from the loading to the SD card method, or by using the HTC dev unlocker HTC EU RUU, but I don't want to brick the phone by not prepping the rest of it first (i.e. the image mismatch)
you have 2 options. Wait for the Orange UK 2.3.5 Update, then start unlocking it, Or flash it to EU 2.3.5. those 2 things will update your hboot to 1.08.0000, where u are able to unlock
#Edit
Also u wont brick phone with official RUU, it will check if all is good, then it will start installing, Orange UK rom is just same as HTC EU rom, but u got branded OS, that's the difference
@Unkheq
How would I update the OS to 2.3.5 EU? as it would be useful to be pointed somewhere where the image is / information is on how to do this, as I might go ahead and flash to the EU version if I decide its going to be a faster option
Don't mind about the non branding. Most crucial on my mind at the moment is making more space for apps etc.

Thanks for all your help pat da punk and Unkheq. I've used the thanks button in the thread. I will wait a week or two to see if an offical Orange UK rom update comes out, and then may go the EU carrier route.
A final question, if I convert the SD card to a gold card, does it still use orange as the main network, but esentally allows you to flash the rom so its non orange branded (EU generic route)?
You use he network from your simcard is ^^, after installing rom u pick ur network.
OK got it. Will see if I can link the guides so that when I come back in a week or so I can remember exactly what to do
As it looks like there is going to be no immediate Orange UK unlocker for the wildfire S (can't see any mention on the website) I was planning to go the HTC Europe route myself as soon as the SD card reader I've ordered arrives.
If I do this then considering the HBOOT needs updating, will the marvel Europe 2.66 version (or whatever the lastest version is) attempt this and abort if there is going to be a problem or is there a verified version that successfully updates HBOOT 0.90 without any risk?
If all versions work then all fine and dandy. Just asking in case I'm creating a bricking chance if I manage to goldcard the SD card.
Thought I would post back and say I had great success in reflashing to the HTC marvel europe build.
Basically I followed the guide in 1st link beow below, then followed up by using the unlocker on the HTCdev site.
I've also found that the HTC supertool V3 roots the phone and its possible the unlock bootloader instructions will work as well, but I personally didn't follow that method and used the HTCdev site.

first of all you need to update your phone version to 2.3.5
go to settings>about phone>software updates
and update software.then your phone will be updated to 2.3.5 as well as your hboot will be updated then you can able to root your phone.
and if you not able to update software do factory reset and then try to update software.(once somone has same problem after factory reset he ll be able to update his software)
good luck
