Hi,
My device is 1.15 and rooted. When I click "system software update" I'm always seeing checkingin, nothing more.
I want to update my device to 1.21.405.2 but I can't.
What is your suggestions?
Unroot it.
Code:
How to Unroot your HTC Desire to stock
If you Have A 0.75 Bootloader:
Generic RUU Download / Mirror #1
T-Mobile UK RUU Download
o2 UK RUU Download
3 UK RUU Download
If You Have A 0.80 Bootloader: Download
Other RUUs Avalible Here
You will need:
1. HTC Sync (For Drivers)
2. The Download Above
3. A Windows PC
4. A Goldcard (Not required for generic HTC Desires)
The Guide:
1. Make sure your goldcard is in your phone (If Required-if your phone is branded)
2. Turn your Desire on
3. Connect it to a Windows PC
4. Run the HTC RUU
5. Let it run
6. & YOUR DONE!
Okey, I understood. But which file I must the download for 0.75 or 0.80. My boot version is 0.75.
Apparently the 1st version for 0.75 bootloader, you didnt tell if your Desire is unbranded or not, so if it is, the 1st link.

I don't know what is unbranded. I bought this phone from Germany. Before I rooted I was see T-Mobile logo. After root I see HTC logo. My friend ordered for me and I think he will pay 24 month to T-Mobile Germany. Is that mean branded?
In this case which version is good for me?. I rooted this device one week ago and I tried make 1.21 OTA update but I couldn't. Phone was say: "There is no any update". I dont want to see this meassage again after unroot.
Thanks for reply.
Im not sure, maybe someone else can confim that, but it seems that yours is T-mobile branded. Im not aware though, what and if there is a difference in UK vs German version (if in the UK version the german language is missing for instance).
I don't know what t-mobile is doing, but vodafone users only got a 1.19 update OTA! So no 1.21 in germany I think. Is it not possible to unbrand the phone and install one of these RUU updates from htc? Check this in dev forum

I will do unroot, after that I will try to take OTA 1.21 update, if can't I will try manuelly do RUU 1.21 update. I hope I don'tl corrupt the phone.
Just to be in the safe side, it's best practise to perform a Nandroid backup in Recovery Mode beforehand, which you can later restore if anything does go wrong with the flash.

Ok, nondroid is okey. I did unroot, and I saw a popup about system update
Now, I'm downloading BL 0.80 files to make again unroot but I confuse, should I do again goldcard process? I did already one time before..
Yes, you will need to use the same Gold Card to flash RUU files with a different CID to your own device.

So, I have a rooted Desire with stock 1.15 fw. If I want to upgrade to stock 1.21 fw I must unroot, then install the upgrade and re-root, isn't it? But if I'll follow this sequence will I lost every application that is on the phone now? Maybe it's better waiting for Froyo or installing a modded fw?
Well i downloaded offical updated and did the updated manualy because i also did not get updated via phone
Something goes wrong.
1. I have unrooted and did OTA 1.21 update.
2. I checked bootloader version. It's 0.80
3. I have unrooted again with 0.80 and 1.21 version.
4. After that I checked sw version it was 1.15 again
5. Again I did 1.21 updated and after reebot I checked again 1.15
I can download and install OTA 1.21 update many times, but still same. What is wrong?

Hi, everyone.
Got a Desire 2.1 update-1 branded by Orange ES. Hboot is 0.83. Dunno if it's SLCD or OLED, does it matter anyway?
Used unrevoked to successfully root and installed a custom recovery (unrevoked standard). Right after this the phone wouldn't go past the HTC logo but I could still get recovery screen. I tried a recovery but it didn't work either. From there I tried installing RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe (which is the one I want to upgrade from to stock Froyo2.2) but I got a problem in the middle of the installation ( installer says I needed to use the proper file for my phone). Then I used the recovery screen to install a custom ROM, AuraxTSense Froyo and that worked (have it on right now) but from this ROM the RUU WWE installer doesn't work either.
Any suggestions?
You'll need a gold card to use the stock RUU file - otherwise your phone doesn't pass the CID check because it's branded...

The Error code the installer gives me is "131" if that helps. On the phone it shows "CID error, cannot continue". Any ideas what does this mean? Help? Please?

now i know.. after flashing to stock RUU WWE, can i still use the unrevoke technique you taught me?
i did flash my phone using stock RUU WWE Europe (as far as i can remember) and thinking to flash WWE Asia... i cant get 3G/GPRS/MMS settings in my carrier.. im thinking if flashing WWE Asia ROM could solve the problem...
Quite possibly yes, and yes you can re-root with unrEVOked once done
thanks again EddyOS ill flash right away
Ok, so now I did a goldcard and the process seems to go a bit further but it stops. It says "Error 104, wrong hboot version - please install the correct version for your mobile phone". Any answers?

That now means the HBOOT version you have is newer than the one in the ROM you're trying to flash...What ROM are you trying to flash?
EDIT: If it's still the one in your OP then chances are you'll need the stock 2.10.405.2 RUU to get the generic ROM on the handset. You can get it by clicking on the version on my signature
i performed an OTA (Froyo) update on my phone and now i'm unable to root or downgrade so i can root.
i tried the downgrading method from here and i get an "incorrect cid" error
using unrevoked3 doesn't work, the process takes a long time and the phone just boots normally and it says "root failed"
i tried using a RUU and eventually ended up with an "wrong or incorrect cid" error too
so i'm guessing it's some error with the CID or something else i'm missing. how do i determine which is the suitable RUU for my CID? and how can i determine if my phone is CDMA or SLCD?
i'm not sure what to do now. i can post my phone info if needed.
What ROM version are you using at the mo?
stock HTC desire ROM
Baseband version 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Software number 2.32.415.3
Not seen an RUU with that version so you'd have to debrand (using a gold card) and then root that instead...the CID error is because you're not using a gold card
As for other questions:
- You're GSM, not CDMA, as you use a SIM card in your Desire
- Screen types are SLCD or AMOLED. New Desires (built August onwards) tend to be SLCD so you can only use RUUs with versions 2.x.xxx.x onwards (unless otherwise stated)
i still have to use a gold card even though the phone is unbranded? i'll give it a try i guess. i wanted to avoid making a goldcard but i guess i'm running out of options.

If you get incorrect CID that means that your phone is branded, hence the goldcard
If you're phone was unbranded you'd be on version x.xx.405.x - anything is either a region variant or branded. Most debranding guides use the WWE ROM (x.xx.405.x)
yeah it could be a region specific phone, that would explain the ROM version and the CID errors. but its definetely not branded, no extra software on it and its works with any network. does that mean i have to debrand, downgrade and then root?
Just have to debrand, use 2.10.405.2 and flash it with a gold card and then root - no downgrade required
- Insert a Goldcard
- Flash this using this RUU:RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49 .00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe
see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=853178&page=3
then u can root it using unrevoked if u dont have goldcard dowload this file http://www.mediafire.com/?pby74hjgv9t9tmu put it on the sd card turn the mobile off then press volume up while keeping it pressed press the power button then it will go HBOOT then PB99IMG.zip will flash ur desire u can root it again using unrevoked.
Why would they want to flash a Vodafone UK ROM onto their phone?? Bad advice, there...
Get the one from my signature of you still want to be unbranded
This one 2.29.405.2 WWE will not work on desire with RUU ARA_2.32.415.3 this the only way to root the device again pls see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853178&page=3
So why did you post the Vodafone UK one before? And how do you now the EU is on that ROM?? It doesn't matter which you use so long as you have a gold card

Yea..
I think his best bet is to downgrade using Teppic's utility to the WWE 1.720 and then upgrade to whatever version of his ROM is avilable on Shipped roms. And root. And..I have yet to see Unrvoked failing on any software version.
Use a goldcard while using Teppic's utility too. That will bypass the CID check
Why downgrade at all? So long as you're on ANY stock ROM you can root it. Downgrading is completely unneccessary
believe me I got this RUU ARA_2.32 I ve tried all the methods u mentioned here only the vodadafone RUU could resolve this problem all other methods gave different kind of errors without any success.
Of course it'll work, if not THEN use Teppic's downgrade tool and flash whatever ROM you want

I suggested that only b/c he said he tried unrevoked and it failed..Of course unrevoked is supposed to work on every software..That said, I havent seen 2.32.415.3 before and thought maybe it has patched the Unrevoked vulnerability..

Would help if you could describe the "different errors"..
The solution could have been anything starting from incorrect drivers..
I think I know what he's trying to say, he wants me to use the vodaphone one as a stepping stone before moving on to an unbranded ROM and rooting. But won't that still require a gold card anyway since its not the same version ROM?

Hey guys
So I've been reading forums and websites for a long time now and haven'f been able to fix this.
I have a T-Mobile branded Desire with a Golden Card. I flashed a RUU from shipped-roms.com, then rooted (unrevoked3) it. After a while I removed the rooting with unrevoked3 and flashed a new fresh RUU.
Now the problem is: even thou my Desire does download OTA updates, when booting into update it aborts the procedure with status 7, because my ro.cid still is T-Mobilized.
What did I do wrong?
How can I make it update normally as a generic (unbranded) Desire?
You can't run the OTA on a debranded handset, seems Google changed something in the update ZIP. You'll have to flash the RUU to get it. I assume you're trying to get 2.29.405.5?

How can I change the ro.cid prop or where is it located?
That's the one, but why do you need to change that file?
EDIT: You can't change the CID of your phone. Seems Google have changed the OTA updates so you might have to flash the RUU every time a new one is out. We won't know until a new update is released
Thank you for your quick reply.
So if I'm getting this right there is no way to actually really permanently debrand an HTC Desire?
How about rooting and disabling signature verification, would that enable me to install the OTA?

No. Never, I repeat: NEVER ota-update a custom Rom! You can either flash a close-to-stock custom rom (and then NOT install ota-update!!), maybe flash one based on the newest htc-rom, so you are not tempted to install the ota update, or install the ruu of the branded stock rom you bought your phone with and wait for the update to appear.

Thank you for making that clear. I'm really a n00b on this topic. Thanks for all your help. I'm trying to understand,
So an UNbranded (from factory) and a DEbranded (by me) phone still have differences?
On what kind of phone (branded, unbranded or debranded) would the OTA just work normally?
unbranded would get updates from HTC, branded from the operator, debranded either OTA (if they work in future) or RUUs
Hi, i've found this post and I'd like to know if there's a way to change everything in a operator branded desire to appear an unbranded one and get OTA from HTC?
Gold card should do it but other than that no
Hello people.
An android newbie here. I have beem doing quite a bit of reading on this forum, but this is my first time posting. I have looked around all over the place and I have reached a point where I am confused of how to go about the task I am wanting to accomplish. Here goes:
I bought a desire HD on vodafone last week, it had 1.75.161.2 firmware on it. I stumbled across these forums and decided to flash a custom ROM (Leedroid). I was successful a this task, but now i have a charging problem with my phone. If i understand correctly, my warranty is void with a custom ROM, so I would like to know how i could get back to my stock Vodafone ROM (1.75.161.2), also with the branded vodafone logo that used to appear before i flashed to custom ROM.
Again, sorry if there is stuff about this posted elsewhere, I have been reading, but i am really confused.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
You have to run a RUU if you want to return to stock.
I don't have any links to official RUUs atm, but check the threads in the android developement section. There should be one with vodafone branding

I think 1.75 was pulled by HTC at the same time as the 1.72 update, due to some major bugs.

Anothe DHD noob question here. I bought a DHD off eBay and I know it is locked to Vodafone, but I'm not sure if it's branded. If I don't get the Vodafone logo when I switch it on does that mean it's not branded?
Check the firmwareversion. If it's like 1.32.405.3 it's unbranded. The important part is .405. That means that it's unbranded.

Hi, I've the same problem, I need to get back to voda 1.75
First of all, did you used hboot S-OFF or radio S-OFF ?? Because if you used hboot you won't be able to recover the original boot to S-ON and your phone will be out of warranty regardless of the ROM it has installed.
As I understand it, if you've flashed the 1.39 branded RUU back to the phone that should've give you the stock vodafone recovery wich is what is needed in order to get Voda Branded OTA updates, am I right?
So I don't get why aren't you receiving the 1.75 OTA, do you have superCID?
Anyone knows if there is a 1.75 Voda RUU available somewhere to flash manually?

Hi.
Looks like we're stuck in the same boat! I have reflashed the original radio and the original hboot. Also put my cid to stock (VODAP001), and turned radio s-on. Reflashed clockworkmod recovery to original stock recovery, got the phone back to 100% the way it was when I took it out of the box, yet still I cannot get the OTA update to 1.75.161.2
I'm on 1.39.161.1, stock Vodafone UK firmware. I followed a guide off another forum (german forum) nd thanks to Google translator I managed to follow the steps. But still stuck at the OTA issue.
yep, so it seems.
Could you post the link to that thread on the german forum?

Hi guys,
Sorry to dig this one up but I've hit a bit of a snag with my phone and could do with some assistance.
I got the phone originally with a Vodafone ROM and decided to debrand it to a plain HTC ROM - 1.72 using a de-brand pack I got from Fonefunshop. It appears that based on the fact the phone still has a Vodafone serial number but a HTC ROM I cannot receive OTA updates (I want Gingerbread ) then I need to revert back to stock. Ironically Vodafone released 2.3 earlier than HTC which was annoying to say the least.
I've been hunting round for the stock Vodafone RUU for 1.36 but I don't know if I can downgrade for starters, nor can I find any Vodafone RUU files anywhere including on here nor on Stock-ROM's.
Can anyone give me some help with this?
When I bought my phone from Vodafone on contract in November it came unbranded and unlocked. Nothing to do with Vodafone at all, apart from the CID. So if you just flash back to the stock 1.32 ROM and change the CID to the Vodafone one which I think is VODA_0001 (Dont quote me on that, its off the top of my head but there is a thread here somewhere that has it in), then make your phone S-on to get the updates.
That way you will be completely stock.
I'm in the same boat too
Flashed the non-branded software when I got the phone last year. Now I can't get the OTA update to 2.3.
Does anyone have a link the the stock 1.32 ROM and also a guide on how to change the CID and to make the phone S-on to get the updates?
Thanks

Can someone help me with this? I'm trying to update the HBOOT loader using the HTC Dev unlock site but the download HBOOT 1_08.0099.20111216.exe file says my ROM image version (1.36.61.2) is not compatible and that a new file for this version will be available soon.
Is there anything I can do to update the HBOOT in the meantime (I don't mind debranding, possibly creating a gold card, etc) as it would be great to get the bootloader on this device unlocked (so I can try cyogen among other things)

BIOS information is:
HBOOT-0.90.0000

OS Info is:
Android version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Software number: 1.36.61.2
Looking at the HTCdev info problem is there is no orange uk RUU image - or before that even a ROM updater.
@pat da punk
I Was think of reflashing to the EU stock from the loading to the SD card method, or by using the HTC dev unlocker HTC EU RUU, but I don't want to brick the phone by not prepping the rest of it first (i.e. the image mismatch)
you have 2 options. Wait for the Orange UK 2.3.5 Update, then start unlocking it, Or flash it to EU 2.3.5. those 2 things will update your hboot to 1.08.0000, where u are able to unlock
#Edit
Also u wont brick phone with official RUU, it will check if all is good, then it will start installing, Orange UK rom is just same as HTC EU rom, but u got branded OS, that's the difference
@Unkheq
How would I update the OS to 2.3.5 EU? as it would be useful to be pointed somewhere where the image is / information is on how to do this, as I might go ahead and flash to the EU version if I decide its going to be a faster option
Don't mind about the non branding. Most crucial on my mind at the moment is making more space for apps etc.

Thanks for all your help pat da punk and Unkheq. I've used the thanks button in the thread. I will wait a week or two to see if an offical Orange UK rom update comes out, and then may go the EU carrier route.
A final question, if I convert the SD card to a gold card, does it still use orange as the main network, but esentally allows you to flash the rom so its non orange branded (EU generic route)?
You use he network from your simcard is ^^, after installing rom u pick ur network.
OK got it. Will see if I can link the guides so that when I come back in a week or so I can remember exactly what to do
As it looks like there is going to be no immediate Orange UK unlocker for the wildfire S (can't see any mention on the website) I was planning to go the HTC Europe route myself as soon as the SD card reader I've ordered arrives.
If I do this then considering the HBOOT needs updating, will the marvel Europe 2.66 version (or whatever the lastest version is) attempt this and abort if there is going to be a problem or is there a verified version that successfully updates HBOOT 0.90 without any risk?
If all versions work then all fine and dandy. Just asking in case I'm creating a bricking chance if I manage to goldcard the SD card.
Thought I would post back and say I had great success in reflashing to the HTC marvel europe build.
Basically I followed the guide in 1st link beow below, then followed up by using the unlocker on the HTCdev site.
I've also found that the HTC supertool V3 roots the phone and its possible the unlock bootloader instructions will work as well, but I personally didn't follow that method and used the HTCdev site.

I was lucky as I didn't get any errors and used the HTC drivers / non HTC-sync method to do all the transferring.
