I'm unsure what they flash on the refurbs?
Can I expect something compatible with Unrevoked3?
If it does come with 2.3.x can I just follow the 'return to stock'
process to get to a level compatible with Unrevoked?
Thanks
Better hope it doesn't have 2.3.4 update .

It is more than likley going to have 2.3.4 on it as running an ruu is part of the refurb process. If it does you will need to follow this guide to regain root and s-off. This is the only method i have ever seen to root an incredible on 2.3.4.

It came with 2.2 installed (SLCD version)
Kind of surprised me too.
I ran Unrevoked3 (supplying a recovery.img for CWMR 5.0.2.0)
and it worked as expected. I then installed Stock+ and am configuring
now.

ATM my phone is completely stock, no roots have ever been preformed on it. If I was to use the root method that has surfaced a few days ago, are their ways to return my phone back to stock with no signs of having ever been rooted and if so, would somebody been kind to create a guide for this method.
Yea i was trying to see about this myself. I'm sure as long as you didn't use "unrevoked forever" to u could just download the latest update off of the htc website and flash that to your phone. But even with unrevoked forever I'm sure there's a fix out there.

Sure. Run the latest ruu and then flash the S-on package. You'll be unrooted stock.

I got that leaked 2.2 ruu(the one to fix the .3 to .6 from xda poji) I would run that and then s-on package and be all good to go?

If you've rooted, you can run the .6 RUU and it should take you back to stock, with 2 caveats:
* If you used Toast's part 2 to NAND unlock, you'll have to try and get your PRI updated, which is hit and miss
* If you used Unrevoked + Unrevoked Forever, you just have to flash the new Unrevoked Forever S-ON package
Do whichever of those is appropriate, then use this RUU:

just so you know everyone of the guides is using Unrevoked forever to unlock nand there is nothing better right now since the unlock they use is actually as they say forever
Yea there's nothing wrong with the newer unrevoked. Full nand.

Unrevoked is the easiest way
I just rooted my evo like a week ago.. with unrevoked.. and its working great.. i think its the easiest way to root it. just install the drivers first. really easy..
GOOD LUCK
Thanks to everyone! Then i just probably'll use unrevoked!
Same here, I've used unrevoked for some time and no problems

I was planning to root my HTC Incredible, but then I got updated to 2.3.4, and I don't know if unrevoked is compatible with this version. If it is, great!

I'm fairly certain that Unrevoked does not yet work with Gingerbread.
There is a thread titled "root 2.3.4,downgrade,and s-off" by Scotty1223 in the General section detailing how to root gingerbread 2.3.4. This was done with the original gingerbread update so I don't know if it holds true for the re-released update from this week.
Presently, Unrevoked OFFICIALLY only roots froyo (aka 2.2).
Thanks I have found the guide, so I will try it and see if it works.
i am on gb 2.3.5. and i have a mac. all i wanna do is flash new rome can some one tell me what to do. give me some instructions please.
You likely have the latest HBoot so use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473373
Yor first problem is (not to bash apple, they make good products, I'm just not a big fan. That's all) your using a MAC. They are not comparable with Android because they will not release the driver software to Google. Your best bet is to use a PC and do what I did. Easy as pie too.
1) Get the RUU file to downgrade to 2.2 Froyo and run it. You will be down graded to 2.2. ( Opposite of what your trying to do, I know. But it has a silver lining).
2) Download Unrevoked and run it and bam, your rooted.
Flash whatever tom you desire. You can then "update" (flash a gingbtead rom) and your back to 2.3.5 AND rooted.
Very easy process that are just about fail proof and they do EVERYTHING for you.
Hope that helped.

Do what cev says, just don't forget to flash amon.ra recovery. Its multitudes better than cwm.

I bought a used evo 4g yesterday, and the phone is stuck at Android 2.1. the Firmware and HTC Software Update screens report that the phone is up to date. I would love to root, but can't find anything that works on software this old. I've tried finding a copy of simple root that will work on 1.47.651.1, but all of the mirrors link to megaupload.
Here are the software details:
firmware 2.1-update1
baseband version 2.05.00.06.10
Kernel version 2.6.29-789bf291
Build number 1.47.651.1
software number 1.47.651.1
PRI verison 1.40_003
Thanks in advance. My nexus s 4g is rooting and running ICS. This evo with 2.1 is driving me nuts.
What HBOOT version?
hi this should do the trick.

Just for your knowledge, that link only works for 1.32, not 1.47. The 1.47 OTA killed that method. I've rooted every Evo 4g version, with the exception of the Japanese Evo. Simple Root OTA and unrevoked are the only root methods known to work with 1.47, with unrevoked being the much easier method. The Simple Root OTA is not so simple. I keeps a copy of all root methods and files including Simple Root in case you need one, but unrevoked takes much less time.
