[Q] Boot loop can't get into recovery mode [Fixed] - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I'm an idiot, and this is what I've done.
Used AAHK successfully.
Backed up my stock ROM.
Flashed new ROM (Revolution HD, latest version)
All ok up to this point. Aware that I need to update my radio, I accidentally re run AAHK (the full thing, menu 1)
AAHK, gets stuck after radio downgrade.
When I power on the phone, it vibrates once and I get the HTC Logo - it gets stuck at this point.
I can get into the boot menu (Power+Vol down) If I select recovery, the phone reboots and shows a red exclamation mark.
I hope this can be resolved. Help please.
Thanks

Alright. Plug your phone into your computer, leaving the phone on. Check the adb by running adb devices in the terminal. If you still see the device Serial #, re run the hack kit.
But
What you MIGHT need to do is pull out the battery, and put it back in. HOLD down volume and TAP the power button. This should get you to bootloader. Once there, plug in your USB to the computer and go to "Fastboot USB". After that, download the ATT RUU, and run that. This will return you to stock, and then re run the hack kit.
^ This might be the long way out but it WILL recover your phone.
EDIT: You're on the Desire HD, my bad. Download your stock RUU and run that, not the ATT RUU. My bad, I'm in the United States on ATT

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I tried the command line, but couldn't get the Serial #
I did wonder about ATT, thanks for the edit. I'm a bit nervous about which stock to choose.
I was previously on an Orange UK Gingerbread firmware. Can I just choose a vanilla Gingerbread RUU. Does it matter which version?
Thanks

Which Orange ROM was shipped with your phone? If you can't get the serial number you're going to have to download the RUU and Reinstall. And then re-root the phone.
It doesn't matter which RUU you run, so long as its the official Carrier version.
Hopefully this helps!
---------- Post added at 03:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:27 AM ----------
Follow this link, and about halfway down is the Orange shipped ROM:
http://www.filefactory.com/f/efa28fefafc4af9c/

Thanks for the reply.
I found that page before I saw your post. That Orange package looked like Froyo version? and I was worried about doing GB to Froyo downgrade (memory maps etc) Maybe the RUU doesn't care about that?
So I chose a GB RUU that looked suitable, this one:
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.50.405.2_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_199042_signed.exe
It's very simple, just click click click and my phone is back
So thanks again

Just flash recovery again.
Then from recovery flash a ROM.
ADB can't work in bootloader but fastboot yes.
Your problem is easy to solve, do not worry.
You're not an idiot... this is called 'learning'
Edit: too late. Next time you will know how to do:
The first white backgrounded menu is the bootloader
The one after is Recovery (black background with orange or blue text).
Fastboot works in bootloader, ADB in recovery.

Today in the middle o the game pool break demo it shut down
no more boot loop just stuck at htc logo
bootloader works fine
but when i go to my clockword recovery, same thin, get stuck at htc logo
phone is unbranded
what can i do now?
i took out sd card like last time and booted still stuck at htc logo
bootloader works though
Since clockwork mode do not work i dont know how i can recover the phone.
is it possible to do some recovery with usb cable and android SDK?
Please Help

i don't suppose that you are S-off. if not boot in hboot by shutting down the phone(or removing the battery). press volume down+power on. go to 3d option which says "clear storage", press power on. confirm via power up. let it do it's thing.
report back.

i am afraid that you will have to restore your desire to factory settings via PB method or RUU.
can you post details of your phone like radio, firmware, locked-unlocked, branded-unbranded etc?

[Q] Flashed Gingerbread and gone wrong

Hi all,
I have read docs until I am blue in the face and I cant get my phone going again. I fear I am going around in circles.
I had a defrost 2.2 installed and i thought I would put a latest radio on and try a gingerbread rom(Oxygen v2.0 RC5).
I only got the white HTC screen after this.
I fear I might have probs with s-off or something..
I cant get my clockwork recovery working now and I cant get the adb stuff working either.
I have tried unrevoked,recovery-windows.bat,and now alpharev - tinycore.
I am stuck with the trusty old red triangle. argghh
Thanks in advance
Dred

If you are S-Off -> fastboot flash a recovery
If not -> get a RUU for your device
In any case: search and post in Q&A

Thank you will do - Wasnt paying attention. Just frantically trying to get my phone back.
How do you install an RUU? I only have the red triangle with an exclamation mark if I start my recovery up.
I have tried 2 diff pcs now to no avail.
TIA
Did you S-Off? To check you can just hold VolumeDown when powering on the phone, if it says Alpharev ... S-OFF then you are fine. You can try to use this fastboot commander http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823315 to flash back a custom recovery an then do everything from there (careful: don't flash anyting else as long as you are not sure what you are doing. Especially don't flash a hboot...).
If you don't have S-Off get this RUU http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe
Make sure the HTC Sync stuff is installed on your Windows PC (the drivers are needed). Power on the phone and connect it to the pc.
Run The RUU...exe and follow the instructions. If it does not work you need a goldcard:

I have flashed loads and loads of Roms and this is the first that caused me agg and as we are having a baby I was worried about not having my phone - doh.
It appears that all I needed to do was clear some data. I was sure I tried this but maybe I was panicking too much.
Still no RUU stuff was even realising the phone was there. So Goldcard it would have been.
Thanks for all your help

[Q] Desire bricked for good?

Hi all,
I think I killed my desire. It was on three network and I managed to root it and installed Oxygen. I used the phone for about one week before I started having withdrawal symptoms in hot having the sense UI. Okay call me whatever you like but I like that UI.
Now for the problem…. I wanted to put a stock rom on it again and read a lot before doing that.
Downloaded an unbranded RUU that didn’t want to load because of the Customer ID being wrong. Read a bit more and found that I had to go back to the three ROM instead. Okay downloaded that and all seemed fine the phone was being flashed. After a minute or so the process stopped with an error message that something wasn’t right with the bootloader.
Not being able to find anything related to this kind of problem I ended up taking the battery of the phone and now all is black. I cannot get anything to work on it. Nothing happens when I hold down the volume – key plus power.
My PC still sees the phone as My Android in the device manager.
When removing the battery and putting it back in and pressing the power button the phone vibrates but nothing else. Not even the LED is lit when connected to the PC via USB cable.
Is this a lost case?
Please help
Regards
PS I have tried all mentioned on this post but I cannot the adb command to find my device

Hi yes it was S-off as I had to put it in that state otherwise I couldn't flash Oxygen it would let me.
About different Hboot I have no idea, The problem is that I cannot get anything out of the phone. maybe I'm doing something wrong? The phone now as I left the battery out the whole night it started charging again. well... the orange light comes on when connecting it to the PC, but screen still all dark, but as soon as I press the power-on button it's gone and stays off.

Hi that's good news but how did you flash the phone in that state? everytime I try the RUU exe doesn't find the phone. And yes I still have a goldcard for this phone if that's of any help?
If you've got a goldcard, try flashing the WWE RUU in fastboot mode.
The RUU you want is 2.29.405.2 or 2.29.405.5.
To get into fastboot - power and back key.
EDIT - which RUU have you tried? Sounds like it was a very old one.

one of these two. But my fear is that it hasn't finished to flash it till the end or if it did I had that error message.
Ho do I know that it is in that mode? is there anything or the PC I can through at it to acknowledge that mode?
Or is it only when I trying to flash the RUU?
When you are in fastboot mode, you have a white screen with three androids at the bottom. Beside some other informations you should see the word "FASTBOOT" in red highlighted letters.
Why did you posted these two old ruus? Is h3g your provider? The latest ruu by htc can be downloaded here:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
Download this ruu, boot your phone into fastboot mode and connect your phone to your computer. Instead of "FASTBOOT" you should see "FASTBOOT USB". Then run the downloaded ruu on your computer and follow the instrucions.
yep just tried it again.
I start the RUU exe the later of the two you recommended and it doesn't find the phone error 170.
Still no joy. nevertheless the PC does do the usual sound when a USB device is connected as soon as I press the power and back button.

Installed all drivers correctly:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
Is htc sync installed?
If yes, uninstall ONLY htc sync software (NOT the drivers).
Now reboot your computer.
If not, install it. Then follow the steps for "if yes,...".
After rebooting is finished, try to flash the ruu again.
thanks again trying it now....
hummm still nothing this is what I do
- remove the battery
- unplug the SUB cable
- I already had those drivers installed. My device manager shows under the Android Phone: Android bootloader interface (is this what I should have?)
- put the battery back in and plug the cable
- press the back button and whilst that press the power-on until windows goes ding-dong....
- run the RUU and tick the boxes and hit next twice and the RUU launches adb.exe (I can see this in the windows task manager...
- the RUU exe eventually gives up
any mistakes?
EDIT I uninstalled HTC sync as recommended but not HTC BMP USB Driver and not HTC Driver Installer
if I do fastboot devices from the command line it odesn't find my desire. on the other hand if I put my wife's in fastboot the fastboot command does find it. I guess there is everything fine with the drivers and software on my PC. it must be the phone that has been left in a state that is unrecoverable. Any further tips or tricks or should I just for get about and and sell it as for spares?
if I follow the fastboot screen on my wife's Desire and press the volume rocker to go to recovery and press the power button the phone vibrates and the PC shows it as My HTC instead of the Android Bootloader interface. it looks like in the back ground is all there but why isn't the phone recognised?
Not sure if this means anything or can help but as I put the phone into recovery mode ADB can now see it. doing adb devices I can see an alphanumerical value followed by recovery
what can I do from here?running the RUU rom does still not do anything in this mode.
Sounds to me like you may have SLCD brick, is your desire slcd?
As above. It seems like you've flashed an old ruu for an amoled phone.
Try flashing the WWE RUU using the PB99IMG.zip method perhaps. A quick search should find some posts about what to do

Hi Chaps
I'm still confused. okay I extracted the rom and renamed it. I did this from the RUU that wasn't my original one. I guess this is still wrong right? But having the PB99IMG.zip file on the goldcard root should do the trick or does this only work with the original RUU ROM? I have downloaded RUU_Bravo_Froyo_H3G_UK_2.25.771.1_Radio_32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14_release_149217_signed
should I use this ROM instead?
and how to I flash the phone now? Please remember that I cannot see anything on screen.
Do I hold down vol down and press power? do I need to do anything else?
what is the exact sequence of buttons as I cannot see what I'm doing.
Does the battery also need to be above a certain charge for this to work? again I wouldn't see any error messages!
thanks

[Q] Endless loop of restarts into recovery

hi everyone,
I am in a quite a pickle here. I tried updating my phone with ARHD43 and after doing it couldn't get the WIFI to turn on. I read a bit and found that this is becuase I do not have the latest firmware. So I tried going back to stock through RUU (flashed stock recovery and boot.img) and in the process flashed new recovery and boot images. Now the my phone keeps booting into stock recovery with the red triangle continuously and I can't boot into the OS. From recovery when I select apply from SD card I throws CID error and reboots into recovery again!
I cannot connect to fastboot so I am stuck bad. :crying:
did I brick my device? can I save it? I am S-ON with unlocked boot loader. region is .707
Appreciate your help.

This part is your biggest issue. As you know, you can't do much without fastboot.
Make sure you are in bootloader-fastboot mode when issuing fastboot commands. Try to uninstall and re-install fastboot drivers, a different USB post on your computer, even another computer.
Once you get fastboot working, it should be as simple as flashing TWRP again (bootloader must be unlocked) than installing the proper stock nandroid and stock recovery from the following thread (instructions on how to restore the nandroid in Post #3 of the thread, under Questions & Answer). Then OTA to Lollipop.

Why would you do this? You realize that boot.img is just the kernel (not a full ROM)?

thank you for replying.
I have have fast boot on my pic and it is working fine. I have used it to install custom rom on my wife's phone and my phone earlier. the problem is I am not able to get into the boot loader and push commands to my phone through fastboot or adb.
my plan was to actually run RUU and update to stock. I couldn't find the RUU for my 707 M8. I read somewhere that to make this work I should run RUU and extract and flash the boot.img it stores in the temporary folder on the PC. I also saved the stock rom file and was planning to flash that through recovery. but I cannot do that now because I am stuck in recovery.
any idea how I can get into boot loader.. this should give me a lot of options to fix my phone.

To get into bootloader, hold down power and vol up for several seconds (maybe up to 10 seconds or more). Once the screen goes black to reboot, immediately let go of both those buttons, and just hold vol down. Keep holding vol down until bootloader appears. If you fail to get into bootloader, you simply started holding vol down too late, or let go of it too early. Just repeat until you get it right.
Fastboot command only work in fastboot mode. adb commands will only work in OS or in recovery. So if you try to issue adb commands in bootloader or bootloader-fastboot modes, it won't work.

Pulling files from another CID's RUU is not the proper way to restore to stock. I linked the proper thread with your stock ROM (which also includes boot.img) and stock recovery for your CID.
Plus, the stock ROM and recovery you restore has to match your firmware number, as indicated as OS number on bootloader screen, or main version on getvar all.

I did try this combination to get into boot loader but I couldn't successfully do that. I had also tried Hold power then immediately volume up and down at same time. When phone powers off release the volume up button.
I will try again and reply.
I couldn't find the 707 RUU anywhere on the web.. please share the link with me if you got it. I hope I get it into boot loader..

You're making it more complicated than it needs to be. Stop trying other button combos, and just do it they way I said previously, this works every time as long as you don't start pressing vol down too late (it has to be while the screen is still black before the HTC logo screen appears - you have about 3 seconds which is plenty of time) or don't let go of vol down too early (don't let go until the bootloader screen appears - should only take a second).
If it doesn't work, its pilot error.

Only if you promise to stop messing around with incorrect processes, like trying to pull the recovery and boot.img out of the RUU.

Yeah, stop doing that (trying random things). You can get yourself in a lot of trouble by "experimenting". Stick to proven solutions provided by knowledgeable XDA members.
Here is a link to the 4.19.707 RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61886163&postcount=15
I only know of this, since xunholyx linked to it last week while we were helping another 707 owner. I take no responsibility for it. Just linking you to it by request.

Stuck in download/recovery mode

It's been years since I used to root my OG HTC Evo, and I thought I would give it a go with my HTC One M9. I have TWRP flashed and S-On. I was hasty in flashing my SU.zip without a backup now I'm stuck, and I cannot remember what you need to do in this situation.
I can get my phone into download mode and fastboot is seeing the device, but I'm not sure if I need to flash a RUU and start all over or what. Any help would be appreciated.

Details are always appreciated, if you've got them. So for instance:
- what is your current firmware version?
- what version of TWRP are you using?
- what SuperSU version did you attempt to flash?
- which ROM were you using?
- what is your MID?
- what is your CID?
If you can access TWRP, you can almost assuredly bring your phone to a usable state without a RUU. You may end up losing data, but the phone will work. If you can provide some more details (above), we'd be in a better position to offer meaningful advice.
It's been awhile... so I know about half of those things, so here's download mode info

TWRP-3.0.2.0-hima
I was trying to root and flashed the SuperSU and then I got stuck where I'm at now. it over-wrote my rom.
Okay, so you've got the himawhl, which is Sprint, right?
You're running the latest firmware (OS version 3.41.651.4), and you've got the matching TWRP version.
Have you tried flashing the stable version of SuperSU? I wonder if you've simply run afoul of some bug in the beta version.
Yes, I'm on Sprint. The problem with running the non-Beta SuperSU is that my stock rom is gone, thus why I'm stuck in a bootloop.
Okay so I sideloaded Android Revolution 20 through ADB but it never boots up, just sits on a white HTC screen with the security warning in red.
**edit** It finally progressed to the HTC One screen, crossing my fingers that it boots.
**edit 2** Welp, it would never boot to a usable rom, it would hang on a white HTC screen and I could hear notifications go off and I could use the volume controls and the power menu. I'll be wiping the phone again and trying a different ROM.
If I put a RUU file and name it 0PJAIMG.zip and sideload it via adb will it load the stock rom?
I'm not familiar with the SD card method, but you've got the executable RUU available to you (Windows required). That'll completely restore your phone to stock.

I started this whole process yesterday on my work computer (Windows 7) which it was seeing my phone via fastboot and adb but when I tried the RUU.exe at work it kept seeing that my phone was below 30% even though it wasn't.
Now that I'm home and on my computer (Windows 10) I've tried the RUU.exe but it's not seeing my phone. I guess I don't have the right drivers. Under Other devices it's showing as 0PJAIMG, which I think it should be showing as Android device.

A couple of things. I have terrible luck getting Windows to recognise my phone under normal circumstances (ie, Android booted normally). I recommend installing HTC's sync manager, which should cover any driver issues.
When you've done that, run the RUU with you phone in download mode when you connect it. That works for me every time.

That HTC Sync Manager was exactly what I needed to get my phone recognized by my computer. Unfortunately the RUU.exe is for some reason seeing my phone below 30% even though it's been charging on AC power for hours......
So I just figured out that the reason the RUU.exe was giving me the issue with the battery percentage was I was trying to run it in bootloader instead of download.
The RUU.exe kept giving me error 155 over and over like my bootloader was not locked, I kept running it over and over and it finally completed. I have a functioning phone. yey!
Woohoo! That's a great feeling - congratulations.
