Moving WP7 backups to new PC - Windows Phone 7 General

Anyone moved to a new PC and got their old WP7 backups to transfer to the new PC ok? Planning a new pc purchase and want to keep my backup in case of a mishap (have a DVP, after all ).

Just reinstall Zune on your new computer and sync it, and once your partnership is setup and you have disconnected your phone just copy your backups from "C:\Users\Oldcomputer\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update"
to your new "C:\Users\Mark\Newcomputer\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update" and then startup Zune and check settings and you should see your last backup.
Remember you will only see the last backup and you should keep all backup copies in a different folder incase you get an update and it over writes your last good backup.

Just on this... How important are the backups really?
As when a new update comes out the backup step comes before any installation. It's like.. step 5 or something? before rebooting then installing.
Reason I ask is I had a warranty replacement phone over xmas whilst at the parents place and updated it on my dads laptop so it didn't make any backups (guest profile).
I have no problems, I just guess if something goes wrong with the update process it would revert to the latest one (as in the one it makes at step 5 of THAT update) ?

Also cam you restore a backup to a new phone as I need to replace my lumia and don't fancy loading everything

Thanks, I was thinking it would require some registry hackery in Windows to get the backups recognised on the new PC.

No, each phone has a unique identifier & backups can only be made from / installed to that phone only.

Unable to restore Nokia Lumia 800, Please help.
Hello, my first message in this blessed forum. and it is a needy one...
Hope to give back soon.
I bought a Nokia Lumia 800 phone about a month ago and loving it. it came with firmware version 7740.11451
Made a backup.
Then I installed the 8107 update with the cab sender.
Made a backup. all was fine at this point.
Yesterday, I installed the 11501 update using the NCS 5 refurbrish function, knowing that I could restore my backup and all my SMS's will be there as they are deleted by the refurbrish command.
The rom flash to 11501 was OK but now I cant restore my backup.
I can flash other older rom versions, but when I try to restore my working backups I get this error (serial and name erased intentionally):

I tried flashing with 7740 rom too. same results.
Does anyone have any idea what is verified and why it doesnt work ?
I tried all my backups.
Does the phone have to be defined with live id for this to restore ?
Thanks.

Solving this problem makes you a HERO!

Hello World !
I bought a used LG KS20 and I wanted to try the great [LG Ks20] [11Jul09] WM6.1 KisS20.5 Rom (5.2.20755) [WWE] from spocky12.
I made all necessary preparations before I got serious. This is the software I'm unsing:
1. LGUSBModemDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver_4.9.4_All
2. KisS20.5a_Rom_5.2.21109_Build_20755.1.4.0_WWE
3. qpst-2.7 build 264
4. LGMDP 1.5 build 13.06 Aug 7 2009
5. WinDiag_Open.cab
6. LG_KS20_NV2_QCN Tools 1.4
7. Write down my IMEI No.
I've installed LGUSBModemDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver_4.9.4_All successfully to my Windows Vista (32 bit). On my LG I've installed WinDiag_Open.cab.
First of all I wanted to make a backup of my NV with qpst-2.7 build 264. But this software didn't recognize my phone at all, so I made a backup of my NV with LGMDP. I renamed the file to myNV.nv2. Its size is 116KB - so I thought everything is okay. I didn't know if my Phone is branded or not.. so I've used LG_KS20_NV2_QCN Tools 1.4 to load my NV backup I've just made.
The LG_KS20_NV2_QCN Tool reports NV2 status: Error. I didn't know whats wrong. So I've advanced to use LGMDP 1.5 build 13.06 Aug 7 2009.
I connected the Phone and the software did find my phone at once. Then i selected the ROM of spocky12.
After flashing I've got the nice Eiffel Tower and a calibration started. After the settings Windows Mobile shows up, but then occured this "illegal use" Problem. Thanks god I have this NV backup I thougt. I was able to switch the USB setting to LG Composite to restore my NV.
I tried to connect my phone with LGMDP to restore the NV...but now LGMDP reports Error! Can't open Serial Port (reboot and reconnect)
Then I tried the emergency mode and restore my NV but then LGMDP reports: Error! nv backup File not exist!
I have several directories in my LGMDP directory:
a) NOT_ACTIVE______
----> _COM_11_
b) NvBackup
in every directory is my myNV.nv2 but the LGMDP is not able to find any nv2 file.
Now I can't restore my NV and I can't use the phone. And I'm not able to transfer the WinDiag_Open.cab to my phone because Windows reports an USB-Error when I plug my USB cable in Windows mode...
What should I try now to get my Phone working again?
Only 2 Questions:
1. What means to "brick" a cellphone?
2. LGMDP works and is restoring my NV as long the unavailable OTP Block Message occurs. So the restore procedure will be interrupted and I receive a Error! SPC....
How can I restore my NV without beeing interrupted by that message?

Windows Phone Updates, like right now......

Disclaimer, use this at your own risk, if this voids your warranty I’m not being held responsible, blah blah all that junk.
Well, first, thanks go out for Microsoft for releasing a support tool for Windows Phone yesterday. Inside that tool, were unreal hidden gems.
Basically they’ve created a managed wrapper over the whole update process for us, rather nice of them.
So I flashed my HTC Mozart back to RTM (7004) via a ROM update HTC ship and whipped up a little application to flash pre-NoDo (7008), NoDo (7355), NoDo update 1 (7389) & NoDo update 2 (7390) all in a single process. No I don’t care which carrier you are on, which phone you have, it’ll just update your phone accordingly.
We really have to commend Microsoft here for being able to split up the OS updates into differential packs, which saves users downloading 200+ MB updates, unlike the IFruit updates.
All you need to do is run the ChevronWP7.Updater.exe console app and follow the prompts.
Make sure you select the RIGHT language for your device. To double check what your default language is, go to Settings > Keyboard and if your selected language is displayed in the Console app, you’re good to select it. If it isn’t in the list, DON’T flash it just yet.
Now, download the following files.
x86 Operating System (32 bit)
Windows Phone Support Tools
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/5/4/15427EAF-AD42-4E4A-8179-9A3C5483E366/WPSupportTool-x86.msi

ChevronWP7.Updater
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=40MA6F02
Once you’ve installed the support tools and extracted the ChevronWP7.Updater.zip to the desktop, plug your phone in and wait 30 seconds.
Now start ChevronWP7.Updater.exe (this should kill Zune) and follow the prompts.
If you’re updating from Version 7004, you need to run the Updater TWICE, this needs the preUpdate before we can flash NoDo.
Again, if your language isn’t in the Chevron updater, DON’T attempt to update your phone. Some of the applications won’t work otherwise.
This “might” work for HD2 owners, haven’t tried it out just yet. If it does, report below and tell me .
There is NO revert process, again, flash at your own risk.
I flashed my Samsung Omnia 7 works fine

If I do so like you suggest with my HD2 (WP 7.0.7004.0), he still asks to update the february update..
And I did it twice like suggested...
Thanks anyway!
It doesn't work for me but I still have to install the February update. Does anyone know if there is already a new rom with this update included?
Thx!
Works for me, Samsung Focus AT+T and had to run it twice to get both updates.
Source
Where does this method pull the updates from? Is it the same update being tested by AT&T for the Focus?
Didn't work for me...tried 4 times and kept getting some error, then got booted from the program...not sure what the deal is. Samsung Focus, AT&T
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express
Also not working for me- Samsung Focus on AT&T. Program runs, reboots phone, seems to update, but on examination I'm still at 7004.
Sadly I should've resisted. I did this on my AT&T Samsung Focus, everything is great except I have no marketplace and no Zune functionality..

Ok, I installed the Debrander xap util and it debranded to 00-88. I then ran Zune and it showed update available. It upgrade phone to 7008 from 7004. But even after that running chevron update still fails.
Maybe it was pulled from the site due to unforeseen problems.
Btw, don't reinstall debrander over your original debrander as it loses the original carrier details no I cannot rebrand to at&t unless I do a reg hack *I think*

How to restore to NoDo from Mango Beta.

Hi there. I used the Windows Phone Hacker method to update to Mango Beta (7712.60, NOT RTM). I went to use the restore.bat tool to restore, and it said my version of the tool does not match the version of Zune, and would not restore my phone. There are instructions for doing it manually.
Manual:
1) Copy your backup in C:\PreMangoState to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
2) Run Zune, navigate to settings, click Update, and press Restore
Can anyone tell me if it matters what version of Zune I have if I do this manually? I am concerned becuase the .bat file failed on this, and presumably, it is only doing these two steps for you.
Thank you for any input - I tried to search for this, but did not find anything.
if you have the back up that includes the NODO firmware... just copy or move that folder to . \windows\users\your user\app datA\microsoft\windows phone update ..
make sure you open and close ZUNE so that it can recognize the backup
GOOD LUCK
Thank you!

I guess I have another question - the "premangostate" directory created by the upgrade process has two folders in it, with long strings of letters and numbers for their names. Inside of each is a properties folder, and a restore point folder. The restore point folders eventually lead to a data folder with data files in them.
It's almost like premangostate has two back ups. They were created three minutes apart. I suppose I just use the most recent one?
if they dont start with the same letter the 2 folders i suggest to copy both of them.. if their the same just copy one...
it doesnt matter which one..
dont change anything on the folder name
Thanks - I tried just both and Zune would not recognize that there was a restore there, so I tried the big one (3.5 gigs vs 600 mb) and man, that was harrowing. Restore failed twice with phone stuck in the "plug me into your computer" mode. I ended up pulling the battery, and trying again and it went through.
*PHEW*
Thanks again. Now I need to decide if I really want to try updating to the RTM.
dont forget to hit the thanks button ...
and well am glad it did worked out ..
about trying the RTM .. um i dont think so .. cuz mango will be release anytime in this week (rumors)... i was on 7712 never went to 7720 cuz it was too much of a hassle..just have pacience if not you are gonna end up restoring again when the official mango is release

[NEED HELP] Recover the original IMEI + unlock Captivate Glide i927

I was using an unlocked Captivate Glide i927 until last week; i updated the leaked ICS ROM and all the the unlock setting or root are wiped.
At first the phone still asked for my unlock code everytime i turn it on, later I use the unlock method in this topic [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595756 ] by removing the files from the EFS folder and get a generic id. It didn't work
From there on the phone only tells me "Phone not allowed" when I turn it on, there's no text field for entering the unlock code anymore.
Spent more than 8 hours just to try different methods (from moving the nv_data file, using hex editor, EFSPro Tool) but couldn't make it better
Now I've just got the unlock code on eBay but, in short, my problem is:
- I don't know how to enter it, all method i found from internet didn't work
- My IMEI is changed to the generic IMEI (0049 ...) - and too bad i have no back up of the original efs folder (scumbag brain ...)
- My phone is now locked and but I need to unlock it as I don't use AT&T service
So I am looking for a solution to:
- Unlock my phone in Android 2.3.6 or the leaked ICS (would be better)
- Repair my IMEI (so that I can use the unlock code)
I WILL NOT HESITATE TO PAY SOME SMALL DONATION (via PayPal) FOR THOSE WHO CAN HELP ME FIX THIS. I'M SERIOUS - DEADLY SERIOUS - BECAUSE I NEED IT TO WORK NORMALLY BEFORE SEP 9TH.
Thanks for reading, i appreciate any help, information or solution for this prob. Sorry for my bad English
Without a backup of your efs you'll need to send your phone back to Samsung for repair. If you do have your original efs folder backed up just copy it back.
Use

tried but it didn't work, the IMEI is still 0049 ...
Have u tried restoring the phone back to stock as in usin odin then tried to unlokc it again? I'm not at my cpu or I would give u the link to it
Odin won't restore a EFS folder.
Next time make sure to have a full backup before messing with your phone
And yes, you are f*cked, your only hope it's to send the phone to a Samsung SAT and hope for the best.
ok, this may not restore your full imei, but it will atleast give you a generic one with a carrirer unlock
the generic imei is an imei that will let your phone connect to a network but it wont be unique to your phone
<--- Begin Long Version --->
ok here what i did
i never backed up my efs folder, didnt know you had to, and i deleted files in there to unlock my phone for any carrier
i was using the Jelly Bean rom from Dman
something went wrong and i was not able to connect to the network anymore, i deleted the whole efs folder (DO NOT DO THIS, IT WAS MY MISTAKE THAT I DID!!!!!!)
the phone then created one itself, still couldn't connect
next i was attempting to restore back to a rooted stock using ODIN
then my phone froze while in download mode
i restarted and it prompted my to use recovery mode and recover with kies
so i put my glide in recovery mode by pulling the battery putting it back in and holding the power and vol up buttons together
the phone started in recovery mode, you have to hit vol up again to confirm you want to use recovery mode
connect the phone to the computer
now this is important, i then opened up kies
clicked on TOOLS in the menu bar area
then went to TOOLS > Firmware Upgrade and Initialization
it then asks you for a model number
i entered "SGH-I927" without the quotes (ATT Captivate Glide)
if you have the Rogers version of the glide, enter "SGH-I927R" (Rogers Captiavate Glide)
the rest of the process takes place in kies, it will restart your phone a few times etc
wait till everything is done, even if it looks frozen you should let it sit for at least 10 mins on the same screen before declaring its frozen
when everything is done, it should have restored the phone to 4.0.4 ICS Stock
you now have a generic imei as kies has set it up for you
immediately root your phone and backup your efs folder
then install whatever rom you would like
<--- End Long Version --->
<--- Short Version Start --->
Pull the battery out of your Glide
record SERIAL NUMBER and MODEL NUMBER
put it back in
hold the POWER and VOL UP buttons at the same time
your phone starts up in RECOVERY MODE
press VOL UP to say yes to the prompt
download and install KIES if you haven't done so already
connect your phone to your computer
open KIES and go to TOOLS > FIRMWARE UPGRADE AND INITIALIZATION in the menu bar
when prompted for a MODEL NUMBER:
Enter "SGH-I927" if you have the ATT Glide
and "SGH-I927R" if you have the Rogers Glide
now it will ask for your SERIAL NUMBER, enter it in all caps
it will ask to install the latest rom for your phone say yes and let KIES work its magic
if you believe you phone is frozen please wait at least 10 mins to see if the screen changes
when the phone restarts you should have the generic imei, re-root your phone and backup your efs folder and flash whatever rom you would like, enjoy!
hope this helps, if it did help in anyway please hit the thanks button

Lumia 950xl stuck on Windows 10 Mobile 10586.318

I have a dual booting 950xl (PhoneA) that seems to be stuck on OS 10586.318. Windows update says it is up to date. Also, the windows store has stopped functioning (acts like the server is down).
I have a second 950xl (PhoneB) that I recently installed WOA with dual boot enabled (same process as the first phone). Everything went great and it updated to 15254.603 just fine. Windows Store loads fine also.
My main goal is to either update the PhoneA without losing my text messages (it was my primary for a while so I am trying to preserve this information) or install the "contacts+message backup" xap (I have the xap but it is encrypted and will not sideload even with deployers) so that I can backup PhoneA and restore to PhoneB (To reinstate it as my daily driver). I have done "Transfer My Data" between the phones but it only transfers about 3 months worth. If the Store was working on the PhoneA, I could simply install the contacts+messaged app/setting and backup all I need.
I have onedrive on both and sync turned on but it doesn't seem to work (toggled both off and on with reboots to try to "restart" that process) on PhoneA.
Any thoughts on how/if I can preserve this txt history? Either through a non-destructive update on the first phone, getting the Store to run (I downloaded the store appx and changed the manifest for my OS version, as I have with a few other apps successfully, but cannot get it to install/update), or sideloading the contacts+message xap setting so I can backup and just wipe and reset PhoneA?
How can you update it? cookie clicker 2 unblocked games
