Software update outside USA - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hi! Yesterday I bought DInc 2 with stock Froyo. Of course first thing what I want to do is update software to GB. But I have a problem. When I go settings -> software update -> check new I see: "Network Problem. Network is not available". I have Wi-Fi enabled and connected and it work in every app but not in software update. When I check Status there is only "Source: Verizon Wireless" every else position is empty. I think this is because I live in Europe. Is there any chance to flash any new ROM on stock Froyo via PC?

You can use the RUU update in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922, incredible 2 is vivo_w
Recommended ver 3.02.605.1 - android 2.3.3, with this version you can s-off + root using revolutionary.io

Thanks! Now everything will be easy, S-OFF, root and cyanogenmod. Thanks once again.

DO NOT OTA update while you are rooted!
Download this, install and you have official FroYo
Thanks for the info as the phone is unlocked and rooted is it still on Orange?

Nope, you're stuffed until someone works out how to break in to the new HBoot, which may be soon, or may be never.
You should have read the forums first.

hi guys please help me i am pulling my hair out, I have a htc desire from germany via a parrelell importer, i recently tried updating to froyo ota my phone is unbranded and not rooted, how ever now when i start it i get a message saying system failure force close/wait, i have made a gold card, and placed roms on etc but it doesnt seem to reconize them on sd card and says signature failure, also before that while in reocvery it comes up with e:cant open /cache/recovery/command,
im at a dead end please some one help me i will love u long time!
I think you Desire is unbranded, can you use sim cards from different carriers?
If yes no goldcard is needed

No Update!!

Ive been reading that there has been an update for the dhd, how do i get this update?
My dhd was an upgrade on orangeUK (branded), is it for unbranded only or do i have to wait or something?
Ive tried the software update in settings but it says im upto date already and ive had no notifications.
regards Jody
Hi and welcome,
If you check your Android version, Settings > About > Android Version - 2.2 or 2.2.1
Your DHD may have come preloaded with the update, I thought that the OTA was for every DHD, I could be wrong!
it says
Android version: 2.2
software version: 1.40.61.2
You don't have the update. If you manually change the date on your DHD to a month or so ahead, then check for updates.
This worked for me on my old HTC Hero when T-Mobile were staggering updates to prevent network overload.
it's a branded phone, so you have to wait until your provider releases the update. normal htc strategy
Thanks for the replies guys
Is the debranding process something an average person could cope with?
Im used to flashing my old omnia on symbian but am new to android so a little green....excuse the pun
I would describe myself as the average person, and I got it to work. It can get technical at times, but as long as you follow the guides to the letter you'd be fine.
Thanks, I'll search for a debranding tutorial I think, any recommendations/advise/cautionary notes?
Give me a minute and I'll pull up some guides.
thankyou your very kind
The process to debrand your DHD is quite lengthy but worth it.
If you install the latest Stock HTC RUU then everything we do here, except Radio S-OFF, will be undone and revert to stock.
1). Root your DHD using Visionary+ --> Found Here
- You have to enable non-Market apps. Settings > Applications > Tick "Unknown Sources"
- Copy Visionary+ to your SD Card and install using a File Manager. I use Linda. Its on the Market & free.
- Using Visionary, Click TempRoot, then Attempt PermRoot.
2). Switch off DHD security (S-OFF)
- Follow This Guide to the letter. Ensure HTC Sync is installed, as you need the correct drivers.
- You performed the first two steps already.
3). Switch off Radio Security, SuperCID, & SIM Unlock.
- Follow This Guide, also to the letter.
- SuperCID allows you to flash Unbranded HTC ROM's to Branded DHD's.
- Radio Security (Radio S-OFF), allows you to flash Radio files seperately.
If you want to backup SMS' & Calls logs get SMS Backup + from the Market, its free and backs up to your GMail.
Now your DHD should be branded still but fully unlocked, to install the latest stock & unbranded HTC update you will need to download This Official HTC RUU,(RUU = Rom Update Utility). The first post has the file.
Once downloaded, connect your DHD to your computer, ensure HTC Sync recognises your DHD. And double click the downloaded file, following all the prompts.
Your DHD will reboot, and do it's thing. Once complete your DHD will be bang upto date. Unbranded & Unlocked. All your previous settings, SMS', call logs & apps will be gone. If you have purchased any apps, they will still be able to be downloaded at no extra cost.
Everything you performed here will be undone, except step 3. But why would you want to SIM Lock your DHD again, or lock the CID back to a network?
Many thanks, will folow this to the letter and let you know how i get on
Hi
im picking up a unlocked Vodafone DHD tomorrow and i plan on debranding it to remove all the vodafone stuff
just reading over andyharney post and im a little confused
both step 2 & 3 point to the same guide
is step 3 surposed to be pointing to THIS guide?????
and when i debrand the phone i intend on keeping the rooted phone so when i choose a new RUU should i just not choose the most recent one ??
sorry if that doesn't make sense im a little new to the DHD
cheers
Hi, yes they are supposed to point to the same guide. I'd described each step separately so I posted the link twice.
If you wish to keep root then you can either flash an earlier unbranded RUU, or flash a Sense based custom ROM. I'm using Android Revolution HD at the moment. Its excellent.
I have this problem, I dont have the 1.7... update people are talking about. My DHD is unbranded and on Orange

but with the One click S-OFF isnt it just a 1 button app
there is no option there to switch off SuperCID, & SIM Unlock.
or do i root with Visionary then use the One click S-OFF app
then just repeat the process again ???
sorry for the dumb questions
could i just use this THIS app instead as it does radio s-off super-CID and simunlock in one click
then just flash a unbranded RUU
i pickup my phone 2night cant wait
If your device is branded you may also need to create a gold card to get it to accept unbranded firmware.
Sent from my performance enhanced Desire HD
was chatting with jkoljo the dev of the tool HERE
and he said you can just follow the steps there and your ready to go
then you just need to choose a debranded RUU and flash it
then just follow the s-on steps if you ever need to return the phone for warranty purposes
from my understanding the super-CIDD option in the software allows you to flash any firmware you want
i picked up my new phone a few hrs ago
all the bloatware vodafone put on the phone slow it up soo much
the stupid vodafone bootup screen adds another 4-5 seconds to boot up time
so i got home and debranded the phone
only took 15min
every thing is running great
i just used jkoljo 1 click tool i posted above and then flashed RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed
phone is fully debadged and rooted

[Q] [CDMA] Unroot

I am trying to unroot my Cellular South desire and turn S-On. My phone is currently having issues staying on 3G so I need to make a warranty claim but my phone is currently rooted and has S-Off. I have an OTA update for it I copied to my computer if that will help me any (the OTA update for 2.2 that I can't install because I am on clockworkmod). I have an Alltel ruu if there is anyway to replace files in it with those from the OTA but can't flash it since my carrier has been known to tell me to do a hard reset to fix something and if I demo it in store they will notice it in the store.
fixed, it works well enough at least
There is an RUU on their website.
Their site being cellular south's site? Where did you see an RUU?

You mind sharing how you unrooted the device?
Just run the RUU from your carrier (goto HTC website, and search through downloads)on a computer with your phone plugged in. Assuming you havent added any developer modified drivers everything should run smoothly and your phone will be returned completely to stock... no root, no custom rom, no custom hboot, no s-off, no nothing.

Cellular South HTC Desire Rooting and hotspot

OK, so over the weekend Cellular South pushed out their Froyo update (finally). I knew it was coming, so after we recently replaced my wife's phone under warranty, I was going to wait until they released the update before I did anything (rooting, etc.). Well, in their update, they disabled the wifi hotspot feature . Well, I thought, I'll just root it and install one of the hotspot apps from the Market. So, I tried Unrevoked 3, and after it first said it was triumphant, it then said "internal error: failed to unlock NAND flash", which I understand means that the rooting failed. I have checked and the rooting did fail.
Anyone have any ideas?
I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to rip the required files/settings from the US Cellular RUU that was released a while back (which DID have the hotspot feature enabled) and package it as an update that would somehow re-enable the feature on the otherwise stock Cellular South ROM?
Check the settings in Wireless and Networks. There might be a setting down the list unless it really got removed completely. BTW, I don't see why the rooting failed because the NAND unlock is different to rooting. Try Unrevoked 3.20 instead of 3.21 (or the previous version from the newer one).
Yeah, I can't understand why the rooting failed either. And yes, Cellular South DID remove the hotspot option completely (even to the point that Quick Settings doesn't offer an option to enable it). I'll try an older version of Unrevoked and see if that fixes the rooting issue. Version 3.21 did work with our previous HTC Desire though (but it was on 2.1, not 2.2).
Cellular South has hboot 1.06.0000 on the froyo update does not work with unrevoked.

Oh, OK, that explains it then. I didn't even think to check the version of hboot. Any word on when Unrevoked might be updated to support that hboot version, or any other way to root it?

Not really useful at all, since it is talking about a totally different version of hboot, but thanks anyway. From reading around, this same thing happened to US Cellular customers as well when they got their Froyo update last month (it updated to the same version of hboot), so if the phones weren't already s-off, then there currently is no way to get them rooted. I guess I (and everyone else who is in my situation) will simply have to wait on the Unrevoked team to find a new way to root this version. Supposedly they are aware of it and working on it.
wifi hotspot on cell south
FYI, my desire and my wife's completely stock desire has the wifi hotspot in the froyo release. It doesn't show up in the app list under sense though. I use zeam launcher and it's available on mine. My wife used launcher pro for a while and it was available under her's as well.

[Q] What could be the issue with me installing OTA 2.3?

Hi guys just tried to install the 2.3 OTA update that came through today.
Problem is as soon as I try it reboots to the exclamation mark and android symbol.
I am ENG S-OFF Radio S-OFF Sim Unlocked and Perm Rooted.
I did however change my CID to the standard HTC 001.
What could be the issue? I'm not getting any error notifactions or if I am I don't know where to find them?
Any advice?
Have you removed any system apps? Or any of the bloatware they pack in stock builds?
No the only thing I have done is to permroot with Visionary and add radio s-off and supercid now I changed the cid back to stock in prep for the update coming. The ROM is completely standard and stock.
My current version and build info is as follows:
Android Version
2.2
Baseband Version
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel Version
2.6.32.21-gf3f553d

Software Number

Browser Version
WebKit 3.1
Oh and when trying to use this tool after the failed OTA update attempt to change radio s-off back to on to see if that worked the program no longer seems to work returning failed probably connection errors: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Thanks for the quick reply.
Same problem as I have in my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081923&page=2
I think its becuase we have S-OFF that we cant get the update. I'd like to know how to get S-OFF back on
If you're both rooted, etc... Why don't you try Seraphics rooted GB ROM?
You can flash it via recovery and is completely stock, other than having root access.
You can find the thread HERE and the ROM HERE
I wouldn't mind knowing how to get S-OFF back on. Starting to wish I didn't root as I cant even get an OTA.
Same problem
I had the same problem ealier today. Yellow ! when the update shuts down the phone, but take out the battery and it loads back 2.2 up..
Tried undoing changes I could remember making- the radio s-off, rooting and the CID. Only other thing I could think of was trying to take clockworkmod recovery off the phone.
I decided just to flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059563
...If you can flash roms, this is probably gonna be much the same as the update.
In the end I was actually pretty disappointed with it. I've tried RCMIX kingdom ROM which has elements of sense3 in it. I hadn't done my research and expected sense 3 with this update.
Thanks for the suggestions guys but I'll be frank and say custom roms aren't interesting me. I use Launcher Pro and make my own lockscreens for all my visual customisations and haven't seen any ROM that does anything out the ordinary other than tweaks.
Its knocked my confidence in using anything off here especially when the tool to s-off supercid and simunlock says its simple enough to go back where in reality after attempting OTA something in the settings somewhere has changed and screwed it up.
The ROM I linked to isn't a custom ROM. Its stock HTC gingerbread with root.

Thanks had a looked more in detail at the rom you linked to and have to say I'm convinced and can't be bothered with OTA anymore lol Decided to stop sitting on the fence and throw myself at the dev communities mercy lol Those using the Easy Radio tool won't be able to go back to s-on unless rooted and to do so ensure that you haven't denied access to an unamed process called "Unknown" in your superuser app as this refers to the radio tools access.
