[Q] [HELP] Internal Memory Showing 9.96mb...Need .pit file? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

my gs2 internal memory shows only 9.96mb, im pretty sure re-partitioning it can fix it...does a .pit file exist for our gs2's?
thanks

I downloaded the Odin in the Dev forum and it had the pit included.

There is no pit file for our phone to Odin. It might be embedded in the tar.md5 file we use in PDA in Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

So technically then i can check re-partition and it should re-partition the internal memory? I hate these internal memories on samsungs its pretty easy to corrupt

Anyone got any ideas as to what i can do?... I got the phone like this

Just do it, if you got the phone like that then you knew something was wrong in the first place.. Itll get partitioned, i dont think itll get corrupted..

I had this happen to a Nook that I rooted. Can you not just format it or partition it within clockwork?

Try within the actual Android OS. Put it in your Sensation, go to storage, unmount it, then format it.

its not the micro sd card thats faulty, but the actual internal storage which was supposed to be 16gb's mine shows 1.xx something gb's.

Now that I know you have that unbranded phone.. maybe its meant to be that since it might be prototype or something???

[Q] question about installing roms

Hi all, this is my first post and i hope to take advantage from it.
I've done a lot of research in the android development forums. The first thing i did to my phone was to get it rooted. So far so good, i followed the instructions and everything went ok.
Now i want to install a ROM. Thing is there is a lot of terminology i do not quite understand and i want to know for sure how this process is done correctly. In theory i know how to install a ROM but some disclaimers keeps me from doing it.
The main question here is, my phone has to meet some prerequisites in order to install a ROM? I mean, the android version of my phone, baseband version, kernel version and build number necessarily need to have the same characteristics from the ROM i will be flashing? For example, Team Kang's Juggernaut base band version is T989VKID mine is T989UVKL1, the android version is 2.3.5, mine is 2.3.6 and so on. That basically is it. I do not want to mess up my phone but at the same time i wanna enjoy those great roms.
Thanks in advance and i wish a happy valentine's day to all
Download ROM manager. Pick install from sd card. Wipe data and cache. Pick the ROM you downloaded. Just make sure you only install roms from this forum
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
The answer to your question is basically no. Roms don't change your baseband. So that doesn't matter. If your on 2.36 and you install a 2.35 ROM you'll just be on 2.35. But in the case of a kickass ROM that would be just fine.

instead of using rom manager, I would suggest doing everything from the CWM recovery itself. The manual way is always better and you encounter less problems along the way..
i.e. backup/restore isn't complete. didn't wipe everything clean... etc.

I could be wrong but I think the last version of CWM wont let you make backups to the internal but you can flash from the internal. But the newest touch version that just came out a few weeks ago does have internal suppoert for backups so you have to flash the latest one. And I would listen to them when they say not to use rom manager there are far too many problems with it. Also the latest version of juggs is 4.1 and that is 2.3.6. I would use that one. Good luck

Don't believe this is an update. This is simply the stock firmware that came with the phone. It might come in handy if/when something goes terribly wrong and a backup won't fix your issue.

I'm not exactly sure if this is the stock tar or not.....
BUT if it is, you should be able to just restore your stock nandroid and pull out the recovery file and put that in the pda slot of odin.
Or just put the entire tar in the pda slot... looking for some confirmation on this

I'm just concerned about whether that Device Status field in the About Phone settings is something that is stored underneath the OS and can't be changed once you flash something. This would be an easy indicator that the phone has been messed with and clear void of warranty for normally clueless reps even if you do a return to stock type flash. Before I rooted, it said "Factory Mode“ but now says "Modified“. I haven't touched anything else other than flashing CWM and Superuser.

So this must mean we can flash fash back to stock with odin if we have problems.
yup! this is our fall back ROM. now we need a triangle away to reset the counter!
It Works
I decided to be the test monkey on this one.
I had a nandroid backup of when I screwed my system so badly it just boot looped repeatedly. Restored that with cwm, verified it was still hosed, unpacked this zip, used odin to burn the .tar.md5 to the phone as PDA, rebooted.
It does some gear chunking while booting the first time then reboots - don't panic yet! On second boot it does some more rebuilding, then 'WELCOME!'
Bonus: CWM now sees the actual external sdcard as /sdcard and can find things like roms and backups on it. Edit: This CWM finds .zips on the sdcard, but doesn't seem to know how to backup/restore.
So is this for un rooting our phones?

After burning this with Odin I ended up with a CWM that I didn't expect - and I've never seen one that actually recognized the external card. However, with all the things I've been trying it's quite possible I ended up burning a boot image I forgot about. I need to try reburning this and see if anything changes, but can't do it right now.

Strange - I had kind of a weird experience with this. I flashed via Odin as usual (as I've done a 100x before) and when it rebooted, it still had remnants of the previous rom I had installed. I didn't get the "welcome" screen as if I was starting from a new factory rom. but at least it got me back to step 1 and I could flash the Lean 2.1 rom again to repair my screw ups.

PIT files for all US SGS3's

Downloads here: http://invisiblek.chickenkiller.com/pits/
Everything below this line is for historical significance, I've acquired what is needed here. Thanks!
==================================================================================
Hey guys, I'm from the VZW version of the device, but I'm trying to accumulate all of the PITs for each variant since they are all signed, they are all different. I'm doing this just in case they are needed by someone in the future, we won't have to scramble to find one.
Its quite a simple process, just need one command run from a root shell (adb or terminal emulator) then an upload of the file.
Command to run:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/out.pit bs=8 count=481 skip=2176
You may upload /sdcard/out.pit to dropbox, mediafire, whatever.
I need a 32gb PIT. You may respond here or PM me, please include what size phone you have.
Thanks in advance!
FYI: A PIT is a partition information table, it basically tells Odin where to put things when you flash.

Yes, a little, but I lol'ed. But I thought that pit files would be pushed out by Samsung, like tar files. We can spit out our own pit files to reuse with Odin later if our partition tables get messed up?

I've not seen any come from Samsung, so I figured we could pull them from our devices and make our own collection.
Yes, it would help if partitions get messed up (although if that happens, you might be in worse shape than just needing a PIT.
A 32gb VZW user bricked his phone and got it JTAG'd back to life, but the person who JTAG'd it only had a 16gb image. So the partitions were messed up and he didn't have the full 32gb of space.
He was able to flash with the PIT from my 32gb VZW SGS3 and then flash a ROM and got all his space back.
Hey there I ran the line of code in the OP in a root shell in ADB and this file Ive attached is what it spit out. Its from a Rogers 16gb I747M. Hope you can make more out of it then me!! Have fun
I want to thank everybody involved in this project for the pit files :good:
Does somebody have "a working" T999 32Gb pit?
I tried the one posted on here but right away I knew it was not going to work ...all the other pits are 3-4 kb in size, the T999 32Gb is 240kb or am I missing something?
Before I get the " you shouldn't be using a pit..." I am trying to fix a 32Gb T999 that was Jtagged and was partitioned at some point with a 16Gb pit.
Thanks in advance!
This is amazing. We now have PIT files for the OG S3.
Now if we can get the LTE Version of the S3 TMo.
THIS should be stickied or something.
PIT Files are an underdog life saver. Just like what Invisiblek just said, lost his other 16 GB space, but with his PIT file, bam, back all of that 32GB.
BUMP!!!

Hey Doc,
Did you say you happen to have the S3 T999 32Gb pit?
I think the one on here was extracted with the wrong shell commands...so it's not going to work.
I tried modifying a 16Gb pit with pit magic but that didn't work either because I believe they are "signed" pits and pit magic trims off the signature.
Thanks!!

I think what you mean to ask is, In download mode you get failed errors in Odin trying to flash a stock fw and encryption errors when flashing a rom via twrp. Post your pics of errors you are getting in the thread hopefully someone has an answer for you. iv'e been trying to help but im baffled, seems nothing will write to his internal on the phone. is this considered a brick even if you can still get into download mode or recovery?

Encryption error, ugh. Haven't saw that since Captivate days. You may need to send that for jtag.
Here's the link for the Captivate thread with the encryption error. Maybe you can find something there that's useful

If your using a PIT file, tick "re-partition" in odin. It will 100% wipe the device. like factory. That should fix your error.

Edit sorry wrong question
Part of your problem is your flashing att firmware on a Canadian carrier phone. Try the right firmware. They are close, but not close enough.
Okay that being said. I can get into cwm. I see my external no internal. When I flash dagr8s rom it says complete and boots to Samsung splash screen then it gives me that encryption issue.. I'm at the point where I think I'm out of a note 2 but I don't know I'm 16 days into the purchase... Of well I guess this was an 800 dollar mistake on my part. To all the newbies out there plzz plzz read and understand b4 u flash.

this link is for s3
No, the link is for a Captivate thread on encryption errors. It says that in the first sentence of the OP. The thread link is merely to help point you on a direction to start looking for what happened. It is not posted with the intent to offer a solution, merely more information.
Also, did you flash Canadian firmware on your Canadian phone, instead of Att firmware on your Canadian phone?
Ok first off in Odin. You only want that file in the PDA section.
Did you make a nandroid of your stock rooted before flashing dagr8's ROM? If so restore that. If not. Download a stock rooted one and get your phone working again.
What link did you DL his ROM from? Mine kept failing and had success from mirror 2
Also did you follow all the instruction about root??? It says make sure repartition isn't- IS NOT - checked!!!!
Edit: after rereading I see you were already rooted. If our can get to recovery. What about a data reset. Might work

]Also... how have you had this 16 days?? They have only been out 7???????
YOU NEED TO DO THIS TO RETURN TO STOCK. THEN START OVER. READ EVERYTHING AT LEAST TWICE. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992303

A fine example of the importance of reading and reading comprehension.

Thats correct re partition needs to be enabled when going to stock when using a .pit file in odin. The i317m was released oct 30 so hence the reason he had it longer as I do the same

Well, they were released on the 9th. so impossible to have it that long, unless you have the Bell?rodgers version. Not sure when those came out. Also. SORRY for trying to help. it didn't look like you followed any of the instructions. reading the post I linked you too, doesn't have you flashing 5 files in Odin at any time.... EVER! If you truly want to unroot your phone..... READ AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! It helps so much. We were all noobs once, just read and reread.

Not that I know of. If you can get to download mode you are still OK. Can you get into recovery?
If you can this is the Att stock image recovery. This should be the only file you need to get back to a working phone. I didn't see one for bell/Rogers.

I got it from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883823
I don't think you would need the different modems and such but I'm not an expert on the error you are having.
